Chapter 17

"What if she is really dead?" Tamsin asked.

"Then we find her body and bring her home." Trick said solemnly. They were all standing around the bar, talking over what they'd just heard. Kenzi was downstairs sleeping. She hadn't really had a chance to sleep since she'd rescued Dyson and Tamsin out of the truck. Hell, none of them had really slept. They all wanted to find out what was going on, and fix it.

"Do you think Kenzi saw the people? The ones doing all of this?" Hale asked.

"Probably, who knows. We shouldn't push her to hard. She's just as distraught as all of us, maybe more. Bo is her sister, and now she's got something inside her body vying for all the energy." Dyson said.

"I know. She's struggling, but we have to find Bo. We just have to." Trick said. Dyson could hear the pleading and desperation in his voice. Bo was his granddaughter, he loved her. Dyson loved her too, Bo was a shining light in everyone's life, that was truly the only way to describe her. And Dyson knew he hadn't been as reasonable when it came to finding Bo, but he didn't want to lose Kenzi as a price tag for finding Bo. Because Kenzi's body wasn't handling the thing inside it well at all. And Dyson was afraid that if they pushed her too hard, then she would not live to see them rescue Bo. Plus there was something to say for the feelings that Dyson was starting to develop for Kenzi. He wasn't sure what kind of feelings they were, but he knew they were stronger than they had been. He didn't know how to describe them. All he knew was that he felt an overwhelming protectiveness for her. He'd always been protective of his friends and family, but this was the same protectiveness he exhibited on many occasions for Bo. He wasn't sure why though, maybe it was because Kenzi had saved his life, nearly sacrificing her own in the process. He owed her his protectiveness, but that wasn't why he gave it, he wanted to protect her. He wanted to keep her safe. He'd kissed her before putting her in the SUV with Trick, and he'd done it because he feared he'd never have the chance to do it again. And maybe in that moment his true feelings were pushed to the front, because in those few seconds he wanted to kiss her and let her know how that he cared for her as more than a friend. He hadn't known she was dying and he didn't know where his feelings would lead him, but he'd kissed her, and he didn't regret it. Even now he didn't know where his feelings were leading him, but he was going to follow his heart and do whatever it told him to do, because that was all he could do.

"So what information do we have?" Hale asked.

"We know the place is small, like a tool shed, we know there is tall grass around it will pebbles in the dirt. The shed is gray with rust on it, and there may or may not be a black town car in front of it." Trick said.

"Anything else?" Tamsin said. Everyone kind of shrugged.

"Think, anything she said that may have seemed like a minor detail but it actually significant." Dyson said. Everyone paused and started to think. None of their eyes met, they just thought for a few minutes.

"I don't know." Hale shook his head.

"Let's just all take a few minutes to relax." Trick said. They all nodded and Dyson got up from his seat.

"I'm going to go down and check on Kenzi." He said.

"Here, take this down to her, hopefully it will make her feel a little better." Trick passed him a big round cup full of green, thick liquid. It smelled disgusting, but Dyson knew what it was. It was the secretions from an elemental. Their secretions were known to boost energy and cure any strain of the common cold. It could be very helpful but it was very hard to get. Dyson wondered where he got it.

"Ok, thank you." Dyson said. Trick nodded and Dyson headed downstairs. Kenzi was still sleeping soundly, her eyebrows furrowed together in her sleep and her eyes whipping from side to side, Dyson wondered what she was dreaming about. He carefully sat down next to her knees and put his hand on her side, gently shaking her.

"Kenz, wake up." he said softly. She moved a little and her eyebrows stopped furrowing together.

"Hey Kenzi, come on, wake up." he shook her again. Kenzi's eyes opened slowly and she rolled onto her back as she stretched.

"Did you sleep ok?" he asked.

"No." she gently pushed herself up.

"Trick sent this down. It's nasty, but it'll make you feel better." He said as he handed the cup over. Kenzi accepted it and slowly lifted it to her lips, taking a small sip. Her face changed quickly and she stuck her tongue out, making a disgusted face.

"That is the most awful tasting shit in the world. It taste worse than wine after you open it and drink about half the bottle before sticking it in the fridge. See, that's why you always have to drink the whole bottle once you open it." she said. Dyson chuckled and looked down at his hands.

"You look worried." She said. He looked up quickly and met her inquisitive beautiful blue eyes.

"I am worried." He said honestly.

"Why?"

"Because you're sick and Bo is nowhere to be found." He said.

"It's going to be ok. Look, I'll drink my nasty juice." She said as she turned up the cup. Dyson smiled at her facial expression as she tried to stomach the nasty secretions. Dyson looked back down at his hands and frowned.

"Dyson." Kenzi said in a small voice. He looked up and she had tears in her eyes.

"What if Bo is really dead?" she asked.

"Don't talk like that." he shook his head.

"I could do more, I can try to remember more. Go get Hale." She said quickly.

"Kenzi."

"I don't care if it hurts, I'll do it. I don't want to lose her Dyson."

"And she wouldn't want to lose you." Dyson said sternly. Kenzi stared up and him and he paused for a few moments before he lifted his hand and cupped her cheek, wiping at the tears with his thumb.

"I don't want to lose you." he said quietly. He leaned forward, pulling her toward him slowly, and then he covered her mouth with his, kissing her gently. Kenzi leaned into him and brought her hand up, cupping the back of his neck and holding him softly. His lips moved across hers slowly and passionately, and he felt something in his chest and head. It felt right, it felt like kissing her was natural and he was supposed to be doing it, but then something hit him, he pulled back quickly and Kenzi looked at him with wide eyes.

"Sulfur." He said the word quickly.

"What?" Kenzi asked.

"Sulfur!" he dropped her face, "I know where Bo is!"
