Chapter 25

"She needs a hospital." Lauren said. She was hovering over Kenzi in the back, checking her vitals every few minutes. Apparently they weren't too good if she thought Kenzi needed a hospital.

"I know where to go." Trick said. He leaned up to talk to Hale in the front but Kenzi couldn't hear them, she just wanted to sleep but she couldn't, her body was aching. Every inch felt like someone was poking her from the inside out. The pain was manageable for now, but as each minute passed the pain increased.

"Do they have the proper equipment?" Lauren asked.

"Was you lab at the Ash's compound sufficient?" Trick asked.

"Yes."

"This one is much better." Trick replied. Kenzi stared up at the ceiling, her eyes were not focusing on any point specifically, she was just staring. Bo leaned over the seat and her hand gently stroked hair away from Kenzi's head.

"Kenzi." Bo whispered. Kenzi heard her, but she didn't move, she couldn't move. Her body wouldn't let her move, her eyes wouldn't focus, her mind swirled in all different directions, she didn't have control of her body, something else did.

"Lauren." Bo said frantically. The beam of light shined back into Kenzi's eyes, but she didn't flinch, she continued to stare blankly at the roof of the car.

"Kenzi." Lauren said loudly. She tapped her face with her hand a bit roughly.

"Kenzi." She raised her voice more.

"Breathing shallow, vitals are shaky, eyes are unfocused." Lauren rattled off various things and Kenzi felt something inside her move, jerking violently. Her body cried out in pain but she couldn't scream, she couldn't shout, her voice didn't work.

"Stop fighting." A voice bounced around her, Kenzi didn't recognize it. Her mouth parted in shock.

"Just give in Kenzi. Let me have you. You're so soft, so pretty. I'll make the pain stop. It will go away. All of this will end." The voice echoed and when the echo ended another wave of pain crashed over Kenzi.

Dyson stared into the backseat along with Trick and Bo. Kenzi's lips were parted as she stared blankly at the roof of the car. Two tears rolled from her eyes, trickling down the sides of her face and rolling into her hair.

"Lauren, why is she crying?" Bo leaned forward and carefully wiped the trail the tear had left.

"Shhh." Lauren shushed her and leaned down, letting her ear hover over Kenzi's mouth as it moved.

"Is she saying something?" Trick asked.

"Leave me alone." Lauren said as she leaned back up. Dyson watched helplessly as more tears rolled down Kenzi's cheeks. He couldn't stand by and do nothing. She was helpless and in pain, or sad, he didn't know, all he knew was that she needed help.

"Lauren, do something, give her something to calm her down." Dyson said.

"I don't know that she is upset, she's not moving. Be quiet." Lauren hissed as she ran her hands over Kenzi, touching her in various places, checking different things.

"Stop, stop it!" Kenzi shouted suddenly and Lauren pulled her hands back, jerking away in surprise. Kenzi moved then, sitting up quickly and spinning so that her back was against the back glass, she was facing everyone, but not looking at them. Her head dropped into her hands and she screamed. Everyone flinched, including Dyson.

"No, stop it! Leave me alone! Please leave me alone!" she shouted the words and clenched her fingers in her hair.

"Kenzi, calm down, what's wrong?" Bo asked hurriedly. Lauren grabbed her bag and fumbled around as she grabbed a needle and a vial of medicine. Kenzi's shouting had stopped and she'd subsided into tears and grabbing her hair. Bo grabbed at Kenzi's hands, trying to stop her from pulling at her hair.

"Make it stop, make it stop?" Kenzi mumbled.

"Make what stop, what's wrong Kenzi?" Trick asked. Kenzi looked up quickly, her blue eyes so wide Dyson thought they were going to fall free of her skull, they locked onto Trick.

"Can't you hear her?" she asked. The tears continued to roll, but she showed no sign of pain, her wide eyes swept the group.

"Hear who? Me? Lauren?" Bo questioned.

"No! She wants me to stop fighting, she wants my body. She wants me out." Kenzi closed her eyes tight and gritted her teeth as her hands knotting in her hair once again.

"She wants to kill me." Kenzi cried.

"Lauren please." Bo begged her to do something. Lauren pulled medicine from the vial and into the needle.

"What's that? What are you giving her?" Dyson asked.

"Something that will relax her." Lauren put the vial back in her bag and leaned toward Kenzi.

"Kenzi I need you to hold still ok. This will help you relax."

"No, no, I can't relax. If I stop fighting, she wins." Kenzi moved away from them and toward Dyson. Lauren moved right with her.

"NO! NO!" Kenzi screamed.

"Kenzi stop fighting, it's going to be ok, we're going to help you. No one is going to hurt you." Bo tried to soothe her, but Kenzi was not having it. She knocked Bo's hands away and cried out in pain again. Dyson's heart ached and he leaned forward.

"Stop, just let me calm her down." Dyson said quickly, holding his hands up. Lauren and Bo halted their attempts while Dyson took Kenzi's face in between his hands and smiled at her. Her wide eyes searched his face for some kind of reassurance and he took a deep breath.

"Listen to me you stubborn girl. No one is going to hurt you or kill you, Lauren is going to give this to you so that you can relax. We'll be somewhere safe very soon and I swear to you, I won't stop until you're well. I won't sleep, I won't eat, I won't use the bathroom until you are back to your old self. I promised myself something the day that you saved me, do you know what I promised?" he asked. Kenzi's face had calmed drastically, and now she gave a pained smile.

"What?" she asked.

"I promised myself I wouldn't leave you alone, I promised that until all this was over you were going to be glued to my side. I don't break my promises Kenzi." He shook his head.

"And after this is over, will you leave me?" she asked. Her eyes reminded him of a small child's, in that moment she looked like she was ready to give up.

"As long as you want me around, I'll be here." he rubbed his thumb across her cheek. He honestly didn't care what anyone in the vehicle thought. He needed Kenzi to be ok. Finally she nodded and turned around, sitting down on a pillow and giving her hand to Lauren. Bo gave Dyson a thin lipped smile and nodded her thanks to him. Lauren turned Kenzi's arm over and pushed the needle into Kenzi's vein. All of a sudden Kenzi's free hand shot out and slammed into the middle of Lauren's chest slamming her against the side of the vehicle. Kenzi ripped the needle out of her arm and turned to look at the group, her eyes were solid white.
