Chapter 29

Kenzi and Dyson were just sitting on her bed, their hands were intertwined and they were talking back and forth. Neither of them were ready to face their problems. They were blissfully happy right now. Kenzi almost felt like laughing at their luck. She'd been drooling over Dyson since she'd met him, but he'd always been off limits, but when he was finally available, she got sick, and by the time the two stubborn asses decided to admit their feelings, Kenzi was nearly dead. Dyson kissed Kenzi softly, pulling her away from her thoughts. The kiss was a small peck, just a brief touch of the lips, but it was enough to ignite the passion she felt for him. The sliding glass doors opened and Kenzi's hands instantly pulled away. Kenzi was used to hiding her affections, even when she was younger she had to hide, her stepfather had refused to let her date, the only way Kenzi was able to go out was through a series of lies and sneaking around. So hiding her love for Dyson and her displays of affection was completely normal to her. Bo stepped into the room and she looked up.

"You're awake." She rushed to the bed and flung herself at Kenzi. Kenzi expected the hug to hurt, but it was very gentle. As Kenzi hugged Bo she looked over her shoulder at Dyson. His expression was confused, Kenzi assumed it was because she'd pulled her hands back so fast. She wasn't sure if she was ready to tell everyone, she knew a lot of people assumed she and Dyson were having some sort of fling, but nothing this serious. Bo pulled away and moved to sit in the chair right in front of them. Dyson was absolutely silent and Kenzi worried that she'd hurt his feelings. She swallowed the lump in her throat, how would Bo react to them being together? Would she get mad? Would she hate them both? Kenzi stared at Dyson, she was having an internal battle right now. She so wanted to tell Bo, for all their sakes, but she didn't want her friendship ruined, especially not right now.

"Did I interrupt something?" Bo asked. Kenzi frowned, Bo always had a knack for picking up on awkward situations. But it wasn't too hard to notice how weird this situation was, Dyson staring at Kenzi, Kenzi fiddling around with her blanket. Kenzi sighed and leaned back a little, pain lit inside her chest and it rattled softly as she breathed, she needed to cough.

"No, can you hand me a napkin?" Kenzi asked. Bo handed over a napkin and Dyson looked almost offended. She'd said something wrong hadn't she? She mentally chastised herself, she hadn't even realized what Bo had asked. Kenzi told her she didn't interrupt anything, meaning what was going on between her and Dyson was nothing. She leaned forward and coughed hard into the napkin. The pain and rattling in her chest subsided and she pulled the napkin back away from her face. The bright red stain on the napkin caused Kenzi to drop it to the bed.

"Shit." she whispered. Dyson looked down and Bo stood up.

"Lauren!" Bo shouted. Kenzi waved her hand.

"Calm down, I'm fine."

"No you're not." Dyson said. Lauren rushed in followed by a few nurses. Fear crept over Kenzi as they swarmed around her, touching her, asking her questions, shining lights into her eyes, dabbing at the blood that remained on her lips. Kenzi looked up at Dyson, the concern she had seen in his eyes on numerous occasions was different now. It wasn't the concern you showed for a friend you didn't want to lose, this was the concern you showed for someone that was part of you, it was the concern you showed when you thought you were very close to losing someone your heart could not stand to lose, and Kenzi felt that too. Lauren pushed Kenzi back onto the bed, and started prodding at her stomach. She was asking Kenzi something but Kenzi didn't register it.

"Pulse slow, unsteady. BP not stable, fluctuating up and down drastically." A nurse called out.

"We've got to get her down to x-rays now. Bo, she needs chi." Lauren said quickly. Panic shoved itself to the surface and Kenzi's heart began to race. She looked back to Dyson her chest hurt at the sight of him, it didn't hurt because she was dying, it hurt because she didn't want to go, she didn't want to leave him. She didn't want to leave her friends behind. Tears flooded her eyes and a sob pushed itself out of Kenzi's mouth. All eyes turned to her and Kenzi looked at her friends. She couldn't hold it in anymore, she couldn't be strong.

"I don't want to die." She cried.

"No, no, you're not going to die ok? You're going to be just fine." Bo leaned over Kenzi and pulled her into her arms.

"I'm not going to let you die." Bo was crying now too. Kenzi didn't want to make her cry because it only made Kenzi cry harder.

"I'm sorry."

"Sorry for what?" Bo asked quickly.

"I'm sorry for lying to you, for hiding things. Bo I love him." Kenzi said quickly before she could rethink it. She clearly didn't have time to waste. Bo loved her, and she would understand. If Bo cared for their friendship like Kenzi did, then Bo would understand what Kenzi was feeling for Dyson and she would not be angry.

"Love who?" Bo asked.

"Dyson, I love Dyson. I know it's a violation of girl code, but please understand, please don't be mad." Kenzi said.

"Bo." Lauren warned her to hurry up. Bo looked back and she jerked her hand at what Kenzi assumed was Dyson. She was right, his hand covered hers in the next second. His lips kissed her knuckles gently.

"I'm not mad ok. I promise I'm not. You deserve to be happy, and so does Dyson, and if you make each other happy, then just be happy and don't worry about anyone else." Bo said.

"You're really not mad?" Kenzi asked. Bo smiled and squeezed Kenzi's other hand.

"I swear I'm not mad. Now hold still while I do this." Bo ordered. Kenzi's fear was still there, but the unbelievable panic to tell Bo about her relationship status was gone. Dyson leaned across the bed and opened his mouth, their lips did not touch and Bo easily pulled chi from him. Kenzi watched the blue chi move between the two of them. She was taking a lot and Kenzi worried that she might take too much. Bo stopped shortly after that thought crossed Kenzi's mind. Dyson breathed in deep and his grip on Kenzi's hand loosened but didn't release. He was visibly weak and Kenzi felt horrible. Bo leaned forward and put her thumb on Kenzi's chin, opening her mouth and turning Kenzi's face toward her own. Warmth spread over Kenzi's body instantly and some of the pain that was raging inside her eased to a dull ache. Kenzi's body woke up, she felt revived and she felt like she could actually stand without falling. Bo pulled away and she looked down at Kenzi.

"Ok, let's get going." Lauren unlocked the gurney and pulled it hard. Bo and Dyson moved with them and Kenzi held their hands. Bo was talking to Lauren but Kenzi tuned them out, she focused on Dyson who looked like he needed ten cups of coffee.

"Thank you." she said. He smiled down at her and brought her hand up again, kissing her knuckles.

"I was serious when I said I'd be here as long as you wanted me." he said. Kenzi smiled at him.

"I know."
