Chapter 34
The introductions were short and sweet and then the female started speaking. Dyson paid closed attention.
"Up until a few hours ago, we assumed we were the only two of our kind left on this earth. Then we received a call from one of the few people who knows we are still alive, he had received a call from someone named Trick. At first we assumed it was a stupid ploy to get us out of hiding, but then we reached out to more sources and we heard of the goblins attacking, Aros sending people after a girl. After we got word of a girl involved, we researched deeper and we heard about Leila possessing bodies of several people and then moving on after she dried the body out. It's an unfortunate effect of our power being contained inside a body that does not belong to us. After we verified the information, we knew we had to come and find Leila. She belongs with us, up until now we just knew she was dead."
"No argument there, but unfortunately your Leila is inside our Kenzi, and Aros has them both." Tamsin said.
"Aros has Leila?" the male asked.
"He has Kenzi. Leila hijacked her body." Bo said. Her tone was harsh and Dyson knew she didn't approve of the pair being dismissive of Kenzi.
"I'm sure she didn't mean to. A sphinx only leaves their own body when they absolutely must, and learning to jump from body to body is very hard. Leila was young when our race was hunted down, she was too young to be trained in body jumping, so she never learned."
"Then how does she get out when she's in danger?"
"Her natural instincts won't allow her to die when there are other options, so instincts take over and she moves on."
"Can you help us?" Dyson asked.
"We can't fight Aros, he can't know we're still alive or he will hunt us to the ends of the Earth."
"He won't be a problem any longer." Bo said.
"Why?" Valac asked.
"Because I'm going to kill him." Dyson answered. Azriel eyed him for a moment and her eerie smile was back.
"You're in love with the human Leila inhabits, aren't you?"
"Her name is Kenzi, she's not just a human." Bo said quickly, before Dyson could even open his mouth.
"If you bring us to Kenzi and Leila's body, then we can remove her."
"Without hurting Kenzi." Dyson said. Azriel and Valac looked at each other and Valac sighed.
"Leila has been inside your Kenzi for quite some time, she won't last much longer, unfortunately it would take too much time to teach Leila how to move from Kenzi's body. She'll move into another body and we'll teach her how to move back to her body so that the new body won't be harmed."
"No, that's bullshit!" Bo shouted. Azriel and Valac looked up, shocked at Bo's outburst.
"She's right that is bullshit. I don't care what you have to do; you find a way to get her out of Kenzi without hurting Kenzi." Dyson said. Azriel's eyebrows lifted and Dyson recognized the defiant expression.
"We cannot do what we do not know how to do." Valac said calmly.
"You better learn real fast then." Bo said. She stepped forward to stand next to Dyson. These two were really their only hope, and Dyson was going to see to it that they get Leila out.
"That sounds like a threat." Valac said. Trick held up his hands to stop the discussion, but Dyson interrupted.
"Threats have no meaning behind them. If either of you knew us, you'd know that we don't make threats, we make promises, and when it comes to our Kenzi, we're deadly serious. Unless you want your race to suddenly go extinct, then I'd suggest you find a way to get Leila out of Kenzi's body, and quickly." Dyson said
"How dare you." Azriel said.
"He didn't mean it." Trick waved his hands.
"No, I did mean it. Kenzi is not just some human to us, and by the way that Leila spoke, humans used to mean something to you all. The only way Leila survived was because humans helped her to escape. You owe your whole existence to humans but you're standing here writing them off as if their survival means nothing. As long as your precious Leila survives, it doesn't matter what happens to Kenzi right?" Dyson asked.
"Kenzi is the only person that I can share everything with, she's my best friend, my sister, my heart. Without her, my life would be empty." Bo shook her head.
"All of our lives would be empty without her. I don't want to hurt you or force you, but you should know that I am willing to go as far as I have to in order to bring her back to me." Dyson said.
"He's not the only one." Bo crossed her arms. Azriel and Valac looked at each other and then Azriel crossed her arms and sighed.
"You really care for her?" she asked Dyson.
"More than you'll ever know."
"Valac?" Azriel said softly.
"They care for her sister, very much. Bo loves Kenzi the way you love me, and Dyson loves Kenzi the way I love Leila. It's a powerful bond they share with her. All of them." Valac nodded to the group. Azriel looked at them and nodded.
"We will do everything we possibly can in order to save your Kenzi. Bring Leila's body to us as well as Kenzi, and we will save them both." Azriel nodded.
Dyson adjusted the holster that circled his shoulders and checked his guns, making sure they were both loaded and ready to fire. He would be lying if he didn't admit that he was a little worried. Bo walked in, her weapons strapped to her.
"The goblins are ours, they have a lookout, as soon as we arrive, they send their men in." Bo was talking but she wasn't focused.
"We're getting her back Bo." Dyson said. She sighed and wiped quickly at her face.
"How do you know that." she asked.
"Because I know how capable we all are." Dyson smiled.
"I'm just worried is all. I'm afraid that even if we make it in there, we won't come out with her."
"Hey, listen to me." Dyson turned Bo to face him and looked into her eyes. He'd looked into her eyes many times before, but now it was different, now, she was Bo, his friend, not his lover.
"Breathe." He said. Bo nodded and took a deep breath. He gave her a few moments to just relax and take some deep breathes. He didn't need her going in there all worked up, he needed the Bo who had her head on straight and was ready to fight. Once he saw that she was focused and she was calmed down, he squeezed her shoulder and squared his jaw. He was sure of one thing right now and one thing only.
"We're coming out with her or we're not coming out." He said.
