Chapter 36
Bo came running through the front doors. She had some blood on her clothes but anything else was unnoticeable to Dyson. He was sitting on the floor clutching Kenzi to his chest, tears running down his cheeks. Bo fought the urge to scream and cry. Her friend looked dead, but she knew what she could do to help, and crying and screaming wasn't going to help at all. Bo dropped down next to Dyson and reached out.
"I've got her, I've got her." She said the words as she reached into his arms and gently pulled Kenzi into her own lap.
"Dyson I need your help ok. I have to take from you, but I have to take a lot." Bo said. Tamsin and Hale came running up right as she finished speaking.
"Take whatever she needs." He said. Bo nodded and leaned up onto her knees, she slipped her hand behind his head and let her fingers rest against his neck. A few months ago, this would have been intimate, he would've shared his chi along with a kiss, among other things. But now, he was a friend. Bo wasn't sad or mad about the situation, she didn't feel jealous, and she didn't feel the need to compete with Kenzi. She was happy that her best friend was in love and she was even more elated that the man her best friend loved, loved her back with such an intensity that even the greatest love stories paled in comparison. Bo held him tight and breathed in, she felt his energy surge through her. His chi flowed into her at high rate of speed. She pulled his chi in as fast as possible. As the stream slowed, Dyson weakened in her hands. He body slumped forward just a bit and his eyelids appeared heavy. She knew she was taking a lot from him, but if Kenzi was going to make it to the hospital, this was required, and Bo knew Dyson was well aware of that. When Bo felt the stream of chi slow to a near stop she pulled back. Dyson dropped to the ground. His eyes were closed and he appeared dead.
"Check his pulse." Bo said quickly. Hale kneeled down next to him and put his hand over Dyson's wrist.
"Slow but steady." Hale said. Bo nodded and turned her attention to Kenzi.
"Do you need anymore?" Tamsin asked.
"His and mine combined should be enough, but I will probably need some from you once we get back into the vehicle." Bo said.
"Ok, I'm going to get the car, Hale, get Dyson up." Tamsin shouted as she ran out the door. Bo was not paying any attention to them as she took Kenzi's head in her hands and titled her head backward, gently parting her lips.
"Come on sweetie." Bo whispered before she pushed the chi from her body and into Kenzi. Bo could see the stream of chi flowing between the two of them. She watched as Kenzi took it in and didn't move, but Bo still pushed, shoving all of Dyson's chi and almost all of her own into Kenzi. When Bo was forced to stop she jerked back quickly but held tight to Kenzi. Her eyes focused on Kenzi's chest, watching for any sign of breath. She didn't move, she lay still and Bo finally let her tears escape.
"Come on Kenzi, breathe." Bo ran her hand along Kenzi's throat, searching for a pulse, she felt nothing, she checked her wrist, still nothing. Kenzi's already small arms were even smaller after the ordeal that she'd been through, and now they lay motionless on the floor next to her. Hale was staring at them, his eyes as wide as saucers.
"Her pulse?" He asked.
"I can't find one." Bo said. Her voice was wavering, she heard it. She was very close to losing it.
"Come on baby girl, just breathe. Just take one breath, please, please don't leave me." Bo rubbed her hand down Kenzi's shoulder and hugged her body close.
"Here, take more from me." Hale said. Bo held Kenzi and leaned forward. Hale opened his mouth quickly and Bo pulled in, she took half of his chi, leaving him weak, but still able to function. Her mind was moving in all different direction, she couldn't think clearly, her thoughts were jumbled. All she knew was that Kenzi, her Kenzi, her best friend, her sister, the only person in the world that she could trust and confide in, the only person who loved her and always stood by her side, was dying in her arms and there was nothing Bo could do to stop it. She felt completely and utterly helpless. If she just knew what to do she would do it. She'd do anything to keep this from happening, anything. She leaned down and grasped Kenzi's face, a little harder this time and she pushed Hale's chi into Kenzi. Her heart hammered harder than it ever had before and a sad reality slammed into her. Kenzi's body didn't move. Bo was only able to push a little of Hale's chi into Kenzi before her body rejected it. Her body could not hold any more Chi, it was full and no matter how much Bo wanted to push more chi into her, her body just would not except it. Bo cried out and pulled Kenzi to her chest. Kenzi's head fell backward against her shoulders, Bo's hand wrapped in Kenzi's hair and held her face against her own neck as she cried.
"I'm so sorry, this is all my fault." Bo cried and pressed small kisses to the side of Kenzi's face.
"I love you, I love you so much." Bo rubbed her hand over Kenzi's hair.
"Please wake up." She pleaded with tear filled eyes.
"Kenzi you can't leave me."
"I need you." Bo looked down at Kenzi's body then she looked up at Hale. His eyes had tears in them as he stared at the pair. Bo knew that Hale cared for Kenzi immensely. He was like her older brother, much like Bo, Hale was helpless. He knew he could do nothing to help her or fix her. He couldn't save her and Bo's heart was rapidly breaking. Bo looked down at Dyson, he was passed out from the loss of chi, but Bo knew what he'd be doing right now if he was awake. He'd be like her, a crying mess. Bo loved and cared for Kenzi, but she knew that what Dyson felt for Kenzi was unlike anything Bo could feel. Wolves mated for life. Once upon a time, Bo thought that she and Dyson would be together forever, but Succubi were not made to be monogamous and wolves were. Bo knew that Dyson had felt for her, but it wasn't even close to the way that he loved Kenzi. He was mated to Kenzi and he would love her and only her for the rest of his life. If she died, Dyson would never love again, he'd never move on. And it was truly agonizing to think that your one and only love was lost after only knowing her for a few short years. Bo held Kenzi and stared down at her face. She was one of the prettiest people Bo knew. Bo loved Kenzi and as pain and agony began to settle in her chest, she knew this was one of the last times Kenzi would look like herself. Soon Kenzi's skin would become an unnatural pale color, the light and joy that radiated from her would disappear, and her beautiful black hair would become dull. Bo felt an immense pain, unlike any other. She heard footsteps and Tamsin came running through the doors.
"I've got the-" her sentence trailed off as she looked down. She saw Bo, holding Kenzi tight and sobbing, she saw Hale, clutching Kenzi's hand and crying as well, and then she looked to Kenzi. Kenzi's body was limp and lifeless. Her head was only being held up by Bo clutching her. Her arms had fallen to the sides of her body and her legs were unmoving. Tamsin dropped down next to Bo and put her hand along Kenzi's leg. She felt her throat closing with emotion and her eyes filling with tears. Sweet Kenzi, their Kenzi, was dead.
