Chapter 37

Kenzi's eyes flew open. She felt constricted, someone was holding her. She couldn't move, she was in so much pain. Her body had been pushed and stretched to the limit. She'd been beaten and bruised. The last thing she remembered was Dyson running with her and then laying her down on the ground and holding her. Where was Dyson? Was he one of the ones holding her? Kenzi's lungs could barely fill up she could hardly breathe. But when she was able to get a little air into her lungs, she smelled something. It was a smell that Kenzi could recognize anywhere. It was Bo, Bo was holding her. Kenzi opened her mouth to speak but her whisper was covered by the sounds of crying. Kenzi knew what to do. She felt a hand holding hers tightly and another hand was on her leg. She forced both body parts to move. Her leg twitched and her fingers tightened a little. Hale's head jerked up and his wide eyes, full of tears, met Kenzi's.

"Bo! Look!" Hale shouted and released Kenzi's hand. Bo's hold on Kenzi loosened and she pulled her head back. When her soft brown eyes met Kenzi's, Bo cried out in joy.

"Kenzi! Oh my god Kenz!" she shouted.

"Hi BoBo." Kenzi smiled

"I thought you were gone. Oh god I thought I'd lost you." Bo said as she pressed kisses to Kenzi's forehead.

"God I love you, you crazy little thief." Tamsin patted her leg and smiled.

"She's not out of the woods yet, let's get out of here and back to the hospital." Hale said. Bo nodded quickly and scooped Kenzi up off the floor.

"Where's Dyson?" Kenzi asked softly.

"I've got him." Hale said. Kenzi looked over Bo's shoulder and saw Tamsin and Hale pulling Dyson's limp body up off the floor, they each pulled an arm around the shoulders and drug him along.

"What the hell happened? Is he ok?" Kenzi asked.

"He'll be fine. He gave me nearly all his chi so I could give it to you." Bo said. Kenzi's heart fluttered, if that was still possible. She really loved that man.

"Please tell me someone found Leila's remains?" Bo asked.

"I found a man hiding in the kitchen pantry. He looked very businessy, so I grabbed him up and asked him where they were. He was so scared I swear he shit his pants, but he showed me where they were. In the basement, very back, locked in a huge wooden chest. I made him give me the key, then I made him help me load the box into the vehicle." Tamsin said.

"Then what?" Bo asked.

"I killed him." Tamsin answered nonchalantly. They rushed out of the house and loaded into the waiting vehicle. Kenzi barely glanced at the men that littered the lawn, none of them were good men. The SUV raced back to the hospital, Kenzi didn't know how long the chi would last, but she knew she was on limited time. They pulled into the home and quickly got out. They got inside and down to the hospital ward so fast that even The Flash would be jealous.

"We're here, we're here!" Bo shouted when they ran into the room. There were three people waiting inside, one was Trick, the other two Kenzi did not know, but her body did. She felt drawn to them both, pulled toward them like she was meant to be around them, as if they were her family. She gave them strange looks as Bo laid her on the bed. Both were eerily beautiful and very strange looking. They regarded her with similar interest, staring at her like she was a rare animal they'd never seen before. Tamsin and Hale came in, they weren't carrying anyone and Kenzi quickly looked for Dyson. Her worries quickly disappeared though when he walked through the door behind them. He was still a little unsteady, she could tell by the way he was focusing hard on staying upright. Now that she could see him fully, she noticed a series of injuries. He had a few cuts and bruises, but Kenzi also noticed the holes in his shoulder and thigh, he was also limping which meant he was still hurting. But when he looked up and saw her, all pain seemed to be forgotten, he moved forward swiftly, crossing the room in just a few steps. When he reached Kenzi his hands cupped her face and he pulled her lips against his. Kenzi smiled against his mouth and lifted her hands, pressing them over his. When he moved back he was only inches from her and his eyes peered down into hers.

"If you ever scare me like that again, I'll be forced to give you the silent treatment for an undetermined amount of days."

"You could never ignore me." She chuckled, it was quickly interrupted by a hard cough.

"We're going to get you better. I swear. And then I'm taking you on vacation." He smiled. Kenzi gave him a quick kiss and then he moved to her side. Not far away at all though, he remained rooted right next to her bed.

"Have you two figured anything out?" Dyson asked.

"Who are they?" Kenzi asked.

"I'm Azriel, this is Valac." The woman said.

"They're sphinxes." Trick said. Kenzi stared at them hard, that's why she felt so drawn to them, that's why she wanted to be with them. Her body was especially drawn to the male. For some reason she wanted to kiss him and hold him. She closed her eyes and shook her head.

"You feel drawn to us?" Valac asked. Kenzi swallowed and shook her head, she was fighting the urge to get off the bed and go to them. All she wanted to do was kiss him. No, that wasn't her, that was Leila. Leila was pushing to take over Kenzi's body. No, no way, Kenzi just got back to her friends, she had Dyson next to her, she didn't want to be in someone else's arms. She wanted to stay herself. She wanted Leila to stay away.

"No." Kenzi said.

"Let Leila out, she wants to come out. Please, I just want to hear her." Valac said.

"No, I don't want her to come out." Kenzi said. Valac's cool calm demeanor turned sour and he glared at her.

"I deserve to be able to see her, I'm helping her get out of you, the least you could do was allow me to speak with her." He said quickly.

"She said no, back off." Bo glared at him. Kenzi looked up at Bo and saw that Lauren was standing right next to her, Kenzi knew that Lauren was so happy to see Bo walk through those doors, just like Dyson was happy to see Kenzi. Kenzi was not expecting what happened next to happen at all. The man moved across the room in a flash and he had Kenzi's wrist in a grip so tight she thought the bone might snap. She cried out.

"Let me see her!" he shouted. Before Kenzi even had a chance to react, Dyson's hand shot out and he grabbed Valac's shoulder, digging his claws deep. Valac shouted in pain and released Kenzi. Dyson shoved him backward and Valac fell to his rear.

"You touch her again and I'll kill you." He growled. Valac shook his head, seeming to come out of a daze and he scrambled to his feet and rushed out of the room.

"I'll be right back." Azriel said and she followed behind him. When they were both gone, Dyson stumbled and sat down heavily on the bed. He was drained of energy, and he was injured, his little burst of energy had only succeeded in wearing him down more. Kenzi smiled and gently stroked his cheek.

"My hero." She chuckled.
