This is it guys, last chapter!

Chapter 40

Dyson's eyes opened quickly and he slowly pulled the blanket off of him. He stood up and stretched his arms over his head.

"Sleep well?" he turned and saw Bo leaning against the wall next to the sliding glass doors. He nodded and looked down to Kenzi's body. The machines that were around her were beeping steadily, showing that all of her vitals were very good right now.

"No." he said. Bo chuckled and nodded, agreeing with him.

"Me neither. I can't sleep knowing she could wake up at anytime." Bo looked at the ground and then glanced at Leila's body. Both women were lying completely still, the only sign that they were alive were their chests rising and falling. Azriel was sleeping upstairs and Valac had left only a few minutes ago to stretch his legs.

"Dyson, can I ask you something?" Bo asked. Dyson nodded.

"When Kenzi gets better, what happens?"

"What do you mean?"

"I mean, where do you two go from here?" she asked. Dyson chuckled and shrugged.

"We've been all the way down Bo, there's only one way to go."

"Up." she said. She laughed as well and Dyson stepped over to her.

"To answer your question seriously though, I don't know. Kenzi's human, I'm not, it won't be easy, but I love her Bo, and we'll be just fine. Kenzi and I will figure this out together. I'm a one woman type of wolf, I'm not going anywhere." Dyson noticed the look on Bo's face and he quickly realized his mistake. But before he fumbled to try and make it better Bo smiled.

"We were never supposed to be together Dyson. Wolves mate for life, Succubi don't. It was fun, but it was never love." Bo shook her head. Dyson nodded and they hugged briefly.

"So where are you two going on vacation?" Bo chuckled. Dyson laughed and looked over his shoulder at Kenzi.

"Wherever she wants to go." he said. Bo smiled and gave his arm a squeeze before she went and sat down.

"I'm going to get some water. Be back in just a second." He said. He left the room and walked down the hallway toward the water tank. Three days ago. That's when they'd done the transfer. Kenzi and Leila had been asleep for three long days. Dyson leaned down and filled his small cup up with water, he leaned back against the wall and drank it slowly. There was not a strong enough word to describe how tired he was. He desperately needed a good night's sleep, but not right now, right now he was with Kenzi. The wall was actually pretty comfortable. His head was heavy and before he knew it, he'd leaned his head back and his eyes were slowly drifting closed. An alarm right over Dyson's head buzzed, causing him to jump. He immediately went into defense mode, thinking it was the red buzzers that alerted them to danger, but it wasn't, it was a small buzzer and as soon as it went off a voice broke through the speaker.

"Code blue, code blue, room 4B, code blue." Dyson looked down the corridor and watched as a few men and women rushed toward that room. It only took a few seconds for Dyson to realize that the room they were rushing to was Kenzi's. He spotted Lauren racing toward the room and he took off. His feet could not carry him there fast enough. When he burst into the room it was chaos. Kenzi was sitting up in the bed shouting at people to get away from her as she ripped off the sticky heart monitors.

"We've got it, we've got it. Cancel the code blue, it just went off because she pulled this off." Lauren said as she grabbed the small device that went on Kenzi's finger to keep up with her heart rate.

"See, now get back before I break your nose." Kenzi said to the male nurse that was standing very close with a needle full of something. He backed away quickly and the people cleared the room leaving Lauren, Bo, Dyson, Kenzi, and Leila's body, which was still unmoving.

"Kenz." Bo smiled and hugged her. Kenzi squeezed Bo and then they released one another.

"I'm so happy that you're awake. How are you feeling?"

"Amazing. And that's not sarcasm. I feel like I slept a week and I could hop up and run a mile, but not really though because I don't like to run." They both laughed and Dyson smiled at the pair. Lauren was checking over a few things but she appeared satisfied with everything she checked.

"How's she look?" Bo asked.

"Perfect." Dyson answered. Kenzi looked up and beamed at him, her smile was huge and Dyson was sure his matched. Dyson walked toward her bed but Kenzi had other plans. She stood up and jumped off the end of the bed as quick as a cat, her body slammed into his and she wrapped her legs around his waist. Dyson laughed and caught her by the waist, his arms slipped around her and he held her close to him. She hooked her arms around his neck and smiled down at him.

"It's over." she said softly. Their lips met and Dyson felt relief for the first time. Their kiss was not rushed. They weren't saying goodbye. This was just a kiss, a kiss that they could take a moment and enjoy, and that they did. They enjoyed it so long actually that Bo had to cough in the background to get them to stop. Dyson gently sat Kenzi on her feet and pressed a soft kiss to her forehead before her put and arm around her and hugged her to his side. He just didn't want to let her go right now. The doors slid open and Valac came rushing in with Azriel right behind him.

"What happened?" they asked hurriedly. Their eyes fell to Kenzi and then quickly searched for Leila, but she was still on the bed, still not moving.

"How did you wake up?" Valac asked.

"I just woke up, I opened my eyes." Kenzi shrugged. They looked to Leila and frowned, he knew Valac was upset and he wondered how much longer it would be before Leila opened her eyes.

Later that night Kenzi was sitting in Dyson's lap just enjoying being with him.

"We should get out of here." Dyson said. He ran his large hand down her small back causing her to press back into him a little bit.

"I want to wait until she wakes up." Kenzi said nodding toward Leila's bed.

"Why?" Dyson asked.

"She's not all bad, she was just doing what she needed to do to survive. I understand her more than you know. I did a few things a lot of people would consider bad, but it was all in order for me to survive."

"Like what?" Dyson asked. Kenzi chuckled and looked at him, she wrinkled her nose and shook her head.

"I'll tell you those stories later." He smirked and pinched her side.

"There's plenty of time for stories, trust me." he said. Kenzi felt a small urging in her chest. Something telling her to go over to Leila, to touch her.

"Wait." Kenzi put her hand on top of Dyson's and she stood up.

"What's wrong?" he asked. She felt the tug again and she paused. It was a small tug, barely noticeable, but it was there.

"Just, hold on." Kenzi said. She walked over to where Leila was laying motionless and she reached out.

"What are you doing?" Valac asked quickly. Kenzi stopped before she touched her, she didn't realize he was awake.

"Just, be quiet." Kenzi waved him off and her hand touched Leila's hand. Leila's skin was cold and smooth, like marble, Kenzi wondered briefly if all sphinxes had skin like this. But then something shoved its way into her head. Chi, the word chi pinged around in her brain like a ping pong ball. Kenzi jerked her hand back quickly and spun around.

"Bo, go get Bo!" Kenzi shouted. Dyson gave her an odd look but did as she said and hurried out of the room. He was back quickly, with Bo right behind him.

"What, what's going on?" she asked.

"She needs chi, just a little, but she needs it."

"Kenzi." Bo said, giving her a concerned look.

"Bo, if this was me, would you do it?"

"In a heartbeat."

"Then do it for her. Please." Kenzi said. Bo sighed and walked over to Leila, she leaned down and parted Leila's lips. Kenzi watched the chi go from Bo and into Leila, it was only a little, but when Bo stepped back, Leila shot up, in the same way that Kenzi had. Her eyes were open and bright green. Kenzi smiled and moved away from the bed. She knew the first faces she should see are the ones she loved. Valac and Azriel crowded the bed and Kenzi watched as they exchanged hugs. And similar to Dyson and Kenzi, Leila and Valac kissed. They kissed like they hadn't seen each other in years. Which wasn't far from the truth, Leila had been running for a very long time, and Kenzi imagined that Leila had to leave Valac behind in order to keep him safe. Kenzi stood by for a few moments and after Valac and Leila stopped kissing, Leila eased off the bed and stood up. She really was gorgeous. Her white hair and cat like green eyes were eerie, but her figure was stunning and there was no doubt about it that she was one of the most beautiful creatures that Kenzi had ever seen.

"Kenzi." Leila said. She reached out and Kenzi allowed her to take her hands and hold them.

"The only reason I'm standing here is because of you."

"The only reason I almost died is because of you." Kenzi replied. Everyone chuckled, Kenzi had meant for it to be funny.

"I like your spirit Kenzi, your strength and attitude are what brought me to you. Don't ever let that go. Thank you for everything." Leila said.

"We need to go." Valac said. Leila looked back and nodded.

"So soon?" Lauren asked.

"Our kind survives through staying hidden. Thank you all for everything you've done for us, but now it's time for us to leave." Azriel said.

"Ok, two quick questions." Kenzi said. Leila squeezed her hands and smiled.

"Anything." She said.

"What's with the white eyes?" Leila laughed and glanced at Azriel.

"When we use our magic, our eyes turn white. Anytime I came out of you, I was using my magic to do it, that's why your eyes turned white. Next question."

"Why did I feel something pulling me to touch you?" Kenzi asked.

"I was in your body for quite some time. We shared many many things. There will always be a part of me in you, and a part of you in me. We'll always have a small piece of each other. But don't worry, you'll probably never feel that again and we'll probably never see one another again." Leila nodded and then let go of Kenzi's hands.

"We've got to go now. Good luck to you all." Leila stepped back, joined hands with Valac, and then without another word, the three sphinxes left.

Dyson was asleep, his arm was tucked behind his head and the other one was stretched out across one of softest beds he'd ever slept on. It was cool in the room he was sleeping in, but he ran hot, so the sheet was pulled down to his hips. He could feel the cool air blowing in and he knew that the doors to the balcony were open. He opened his eyes and looked up at the beautiful red ceiling. Dyson smiled and rolled over onto his side, propping himself up on his elbow in order to better enjoy his view. The double doors that led out to the balcony were open and the small curtains that covered the doors were blowing gently. There was a girl on the balcony, leaning against the beautifully carved cement railing. She was the most gorgeous thing he'd ever seen. Her small frame was leaned forward slightly, her arms wrapped around her, holding the thin cream colored sheet in place over her naked body. Her raven colored hair was pulled up into a clip mostly, some long thin pieces of hair had fallen from the clip and now they carefully brushed her shoulders and neck as the gentle breeze blew them around her face. The sun was rising right behind the Eiffel Tower, casting beautiful shadows across her face and body. Dyson slid across the bed, not able to stay away any longer. He walked across the room and out onto the balcony. Dyson reached out and slid his arms around her waist. She smiled and leaned her back against his chest.

"Good morning." Kenzi said.

"One of the best mornings." He said.

"You've said that for the past two weeks." Kenzi chuckled.

"Every morning I wake up and get to stare at you is the best morning."

"Ditto you cheese ball." Kenzi said. Dyson laughed as she let her head lean back against his chest, her hair tickled him and he carefully brushed it aside.

"Are you homesick yet?" he asked.

"I never really understood that phrase."

"What, homesick?" Dyson asked. Kenzi nodded as his arms circled her, pressing against her own.

"I guess I never understood because I never had a home, and when I left, I didn't miss it at all. But now that I have a home and I have people that love me, well, I guess I am sort of homesick."

"We'll head back tomorrow. We've been gone for two weeks, I think we've recuperated enough."

"We haven't really been resting that much." Kenzi chuckled and ran her fingertips over Dyson's forearm. He laughed and nodded. She wasn't lying, their vacation had been some resting, with a few other recreational activities in between.

"I know everyone is ready for us to come back, but, I do talk to Bo every day, and I'm sure she relays our messages."

"Of course she does."

"Then maybe we just take our time heading back."

"I think that's a great idea." Dyson said. Kenzi carefully turned in his arms and leaned her head against his chest, listening to his heart beat.

"I love you." she said, pressing her lips to his pec.

"I love you too Kenzi." He tilted her face to his and kissed her slowly. Yeah, they would definitely take their time on the way home.
