They didn't make it home. An RPG took them out of the sky and they crashed several miles away from where they were picked up.

The other GJ agents could only watch as the last helicopter was blown out of the sky. They wanted to turn back, but they had orders to return to GJ to get medical treatment. Unless there were signs of life, there would be no rescue mission, for there might not even be people left to rescue.

Kim was left staring out the helicopter with tears in her eyes. She couldn't break down. Not yet. There were too many people around her, none of whom she felt comfortable crying in front of. So she steeled herself for the moment.

The trip home was in silence. Betty wanted details on what happened, but no one could say anything. They still couldn't completely believe it'd just happened. They'd never watched as three agents disappeared before their eyes. They'd never witnessed such a horrifying thing.

When they'd arrived, Betty stormed up to them angrily. Nobody had replied as to what had happened, not even the pilots.

When she saw that all of them had their eyes to the ground, she could see that something was wrong. Her eyes scanned over them all and her throat dried. Three people were missing. One of which was her old friend.

She slowly licked her lips and asked, "Where's Shego and Fitz and Coulder?" Nobody looked her in the eye. "Kimberly?"

Kim slowly raised her eyes and the Dr. Director could see the tears threatening to spill over at any moment and her stomach lurched. The redhead calmed her quivering lips and reported, "RPG took them out of the sky."

Even the stony faced director couldn't keep her poker face up at the loss of her friend, placing a hand over her mouth as she felt a slight sickness overcome her. She quickly waved in the medics to take care of the wounded soldiers and left for her office after giving the order from the still sleeping princess to be carried to her office and placed on her couch.

The princess's eyes slowly opened and she rubbed at them. She was no longer in a prison, no longer in the forest, and no longer in a helicopter. She was in an office.

She looked around, hoping to see Shego beside her, only to find a redhead and a one-eyed brunette talking in hushed tones. Neither had noticed that she'd awakened.

"Why won't you authorize a search mission?" Kim asked in a hiss. "They could still be out there!"

"You know that we can't do that. We don't have enough agents for that. You all still need to report back your findings. Besides, we don't even know if they're still alive!"

"How can you say that? That's like your best friend whose missing! How can you just leave Shego out there when she could still be alive?!"

"You don't know if she's alive though, and I don't have the manpower to spare. Kimberly, you know I want to find her as much as you do, but even Shego has limits as to what she can walk away from."

Kim gripped the edge of the desk.

The princess finally spoke up in a small voice, "Shego is… dead?"

The two GJ agents whipped around to face the girl.

Betty cleared her throat and straightened her back. "Are you feeling alright, Princess?"

"Is Shego dead?" she asked with stronger resolve.

Kim and Betty looked at each other.

"We don't know for certain," Kim said slowly.

"Then we should be out searching for her!" the princess replied.

Kim smirked and looked at Betty. She wasn't the only one who wanted the green skinned woman back. It still irked her though that the ex-villain knew this girl.

Betty replied calmly, "The soonest I can authorize a search party is next week. How about that? It's better than none at all."

Kim and the princess looked at each other. They had to agree – it was the best option they could see.

"Fine, but no later. I want to go as soon as possible," the redhead said with conviction.

"I'm going too," the princess stated, the same strength behind her words.

Betty and Kim both went to protest, but the princess held up her hand for silence. "I know you think I'm just some frail child, but I can do pretty well. Besides, I'd be going with agents. I do have basic fighting skills as well. Shego taught me."

Kim narrowed her eyes. "How do you know Shego anyways?" She had a slightly accusing glint in her eyes.

The princess wasn't sure what she did to deserve such a look but she replied, "She was on her travels and she was passing through our country around the time of some political issues. I was a target of some mercenaries working for rebels. She happened along when they attacked, and she saved me. My father paid her handsomely for her work and to teach me some self-defense. He was greatly against me learning to fight, but I insisted upon it and he finally caved."

"And what is Shego to you?"

It slowly started to register with the princess why Kim was acting so suspicious. It put her at ease to know why the other girl was displeased with her. "She's just my mentor and ex-bodyguard. Nothing else." The princess then smirked, "Don't worry, I'm not trying to steal your girlfriend from you."

Kim's face turned the darkest shade of red when Betty raised an eyebrow and looked at the redhead. "She isn't my girlfriend," the hero mumbled.

"Oh, excuse me, you're soon to be girlfriend."

Betty decided to bring the matter at hand back to a serious note, partially to save the redhead embarrassment, and said, "If she's still alive in a week."

Kim clenched her fists and said through grit teeth, "She'll still be alive. She can't be felled so easily."

"So we hope," Betty replied in an almost whisper. She was in just as much pain over the loss as the redhead, but she had to hold it in. If it were truly just her neck she'd be putting on the line, she'd have left the second she found out Shego was missing and went straight to the crash site to find her friend, even knowing that the enemy might be searching the wreckage for the bodies. "So we hope."
