Hello readers of Fanfiction! Thank you for all the support I've been receiving in the form of reviews and follows/favorites, it's greatly appreciated. I... don't really have that much to say. (I update when I can and I haven't really given up on a story yet.) Here's to hoping you enjoy this next chapter of It's All In The PAST!
"Hello, Chief Swan, what can I do for you?"
"Sorry for the late hour, Doc, but this is probably the tenth time she's screamed all night. She begged me not to confront Renee but I'm starting to think that woman wasn't exactly her mother."
"My thoughts exactly, Chief." The doctor sounded tired and Charlie briefly wondered what was going through the man's head. He dismissed the thought immediately. Some things are better off left alone.
"Should I wake her up? I tried earlier and it didn't work. She's too caught up in whatever messed up dream she's having."
"Give me ten minutes."
"You don't have to-."
"It's my job, Charlie. Trust me when I say I won't be losing any sleep over this."
"If you insist…" Charlie rattled off his address and waited a few minutes to hang up the phone. Something was off about the good doctor, and sometimes he wondered just what was going on in his town.
But not tonight. Tonight, he was a father concerned for his daughter's well-being since it was clear no one else could be.
It's All In The PAST! It's All In The PAST! It's All In The PAST! It's All In The PAST! It's All In The PAST!
I woke up snarling when I caught the scent of vampire. It didn't burn my nose like my friends insisted, but I scented it clear as day. Dr. Cullen smelled like medicine, as usual, but underneath that, he smelled like blood and-
"Your wife smells like lavender and roses."
He had that amused look again, like he knew something I didn't and was taunting me about it… I hate when people do that. It drives me insane!
"I assure you, I know nothing about you that you don't want me to and… why would I be taunting you?" He still looked amused.
"Can you read my mind or something?"
"Or something." He grinned.
"I said all of that allowed, didn't I?"
"Yeah, kinda." Charlie shuffled awkwardly. "I'll be downstairs if you need me for anything."
"Thank you, Chief, but I'm sure we'll be fine."
"Alright then."
In an extreme show of trust, I closed the door when I heard Charlie's footsteps creak on the stairs.
"What made you think of my wife?"
"Well it's obvious that it's not you who smells like that… you don't use scented soap, do you?"
"No." His eyes gleamed and his face held the slightest traces of a smirk. I rolled my eyes.
"Your father told me you were screaming." He murmured after a few minutes of silence.
"Oh." I muttered. Awkward…
"I'm here for as long as you need me to be." He offered.
"You… you should go home." I'm sorry we wasted your time but I was jus fine before everyone started to get involved in my life. The last good people who truly got involved with me almost died. You don't want to help me and I don't want you to die so leave.
"Who said I didn't want to help you?" He asked. I have got to get over this stupid thing.
"It's obvious. The last few came in thinking I was just trying to get attention but it was real and when they finally realized it they ran out the door screaming bloody murder about how crazy I was. You so-called professionals think you've seen everything but obviously not." I snorted. I knew I was being mean but he had to know what exactly he signed up for. He deserved that much.
"Well I don't know everything and I can honestly say that you won't make me run out the door screaming."
"You say that now." I groused.
"How old are you, Bella?"
"I don't know. I was 15 when everything fell apart." And then I had to stay with Renee and she didn't help with much. I… I stole from her wallet a few times… and the fridge. Andrew brought all my homework. He knew, and sometimes Ms. Courfton would let me sleep over but she couldn't let me stay because I wasn't her kid like Andrew was… but they helped! They were good people but I think it would've been illegitimate or something.
Carlisle was silent for a while.
Why can't I keep my mouth shut?! Now Renee's gonna get in trouble and maybe Ms. Courfton and Andrew and please don't let them get in trouble because Renee wasn't the best person but I'm okay. She doesn't have to get in trouble right? Because now I live with Charlie and she doesn't have anyone else to take care of and she can't go to jail if she doesn't have anyone to take care of, right? She'll be just fine and Charlie doesn't have to bother her because I'm okay and it wasn't her fault!
"Bella," The doctor looked kinda sad.… I sighed.
"I said all that aloud again, didn't I?"
"Yes." He admitted.
"You can't tell Charlie. He'll go after Renee and she'll get in trouble and she wouldn't survive in jail for long. I just want her out of my life."
"I wasn't going to tell Charlie." He assured me.
"Good."
"Charlie says you like to write." He inquired. I nodded.
"Would you mind keeping a journal? You can write whatever you want and no one has to read it. You just need an outlet to keep track of your thoughts so you don't accidentally blurt out your darkest secret in the middle of class."
"Okay." I agreed. This could be a good thing… I hope.
It's All In The PAST! It's All In The PAST! It's All In The PAST! It's All In The PAST! It's All In The PAST!
The next day, I went to school and Mike was there."
"Hey there, pretty lady, what you got there?" He asked. I followed his gaze to my journal. A nice, leather-bound notebook had appeared on my nightstand when I woke up for the fifth time after Dr. Cullen left. The note attached to said. Dreams, nightmares, stories, whatever comes to mind. This can be your temporary safe harbor. (You could try writing to that friend of yours you're waiting for.)
I knew instantly that Dr. Cullen had left it for me, and I'd written in it from the time I got dressed until it was time to go, having decided to snag a bagel on the way out the door as breakfast. Mike didn't need to know any of that, though. Mike needed to notice Jessica, who was standing by her locker and giving me the death glare. I'd seen Leah give that same glare to plenty of people, J-… her friends included. I'd never been on the receiving end myself. I shook myself out.
"It's nothing. Why don't you go see what Jessica is up to? I'm sure she's had a more interesting morning than me."
"Only if you tell me what's in the book. C'mon, Bells. Scared?"
I squeezed my eyes shut, fighting back the tears that threatened to show. Plenty of boys had called me that, whether they were teasing me or had tried to flirt with me, like Mike was now, or if I'd actually gone out with them. But even they knew about Jason. He was the only one who ever meant it and they learned real quick that that name was off limits!
"Hey, Kitten, what's the matter?"
"Jessica, you have five minutes to get your boyfriend and leave before Bella here does something we all regret." Edward's voice drifted to my ears and the lack of annoying told me that Jessica had taken his advice and Mike was gone. Good.
"What do you want to do now?"
I can't believe I'm crying in front of the two biggest gossips in the school! I'll never live this one down…
I just rolled my eyes at my inner conscience and leaned into Edward. He let me cry some more. He had tissue ready for me when I stepped back.
"Thank you." I mumbled after I blew my nose.
"Anytime. What do you want to do now?"
"What class is it?"
"It's still first period. I'm sure the teacher won't mind that you're late. Especially if Jessica has anything to do with it."
"I'm going to go to class now. Edward?"
"Yes?"
"Thank you."
"Anytime, Bella. I hope whoever you're crying for is worth it."
Normally, I would be angry, but I looked at him and I knew he meant it. Just like I knew when Jasper was irritated or Mike was smug. He was… true.
"Have a good day, Edward. Sorry I ruined your shirt."
"It's quite alright, Bella. I have a lot of shirts thanks to Alice."
That's right… Alice loved to shop.
It's All In The PAST! It's All In The PAST! It's All In The PAST! It's All In The PAST! It's All In The PAST!
"-and she totally, like, stole him away from me and then she, like, had the nerve to go snuggle up to Edward Cullen! The guy is, like, a god and she just ruins his perfection with her snot! Can you believe that?!"
The Gossip Queen struck again. All through the day, I'd gotten dirty looks or snide remarks from people I didn't even know about how I stole Mike or how crybabies belonged in Pre-K. I rolled my eyes and stuck firmly to the belief that Jessica was wrong… and so was everyone else.
"Don't worry, Bella. They don't know what they're talking about." Angela offered.
"Thanks." I muttered on my way to lunch. Angela had stuck by me, proving her true colors as a loyal friend… and Ben had stuck by her. They really liked each other… if only they could see that!
"Do you guys want to sit with me and the others?"
"Who?"
"The Cullens." I corrected myself. Not everyone had the same view of them as I did.
Ben blinked in shock and Angela nodded enthusiastically.
"Sure!" They chorused. I laughed as we crossed the lunch room to their table.
"I hope you don't mind, but I kinda asked Angela and Ben to sit with me and since I sit with you guys…" They didn't answer at first, all seeming to think it over.
"I mean, we can sit somewhere else for today, I was just hoping that-."
"It's fine, Bella." Jasper spoke up at last. "There's certainly enough room."
"Besides, I heard you actually stuck up for her so that's always a good thing." Edward offered. "If you don't already know, I'm Edward Cullen, and these are Alice, Jasper, Rosalie, and Emmett." They all gave their version of hello as they were pointed out.
"So, Bella, I heard you almost castrated Mike." I laughed. I'd heard Leah use the word plenty of times around J- her boyfriend and I figured that it went along with phrases like try it and you'll sleep on the floor.
"What exactly does that mean?" I asked, embarrassed that I wasn't in on the joke.
"You don't have to know everything, Bella." Emmett offered. "That's the point of having friends."
"It means you wanted to chop off his man-parts." Angela giggled. Ben raised an eyebrow.
"Should I be concerned that you're cackling like an evil with from a bad horror movie?"
"Oh yes," I laughed. "Be afraid!" I snickered. "Whenever my- friend did something really stupid, my mom would say she would castrate him if he did it again."
"Your adopted mom?"
"Yeah, her name is Leah."
"Okay." Angela shrugged. "She sounds awesome"
"Thanks! She and my- her boyfriend pretty much taught me everything I know."
It's All In The PAST! It's All In The PAST! It's All In The PAST! It's All In The PAST! It's All In The PAST!
(I wrote some more when I get home. Up next in my story is Malik, who is mean to try and get the main character's attention but it doesn't work out and he runs back to his ex-girlfriend with his tail between his legs. Jessie, who's been pining after him for years and wondering where they went wrong… then Angel and Benjie join become her friends when they meet the Collens, Eduardo being the one to introduce them all. Alex, Emmy, Rose and Jas (I pretend that one isn't too close to his name and keep writing.) all warm up to them and Rose cracks a dirty joke. They laugh and everyone looks at the new kid wondering what was wrong with her to want to sit with the strange, possibly incestuous, Collens… and why Benjie and Angel sat with her?)
Biology isn't all that great because Edward and I complete the stupid onion cell thing in like five minutes. I don't normally like talking bad about teachers, but didn't he know that I did this in the seventh grade in my Gifted class?! I was so bored! And then everyone else was talking about what happened earlier with Mike and they ignored us like we weren't even there! It would have been frustrating if Edward hadn't kept my attention playing 20 Questions. It was nice to know someone like that. Edward was… genuine. (That's the word I was looking for earlier!)
The next day, I was listening to music and getting my stuff out the truck (the only reason I drove it was because it was built like one of those military things that can only be destroyed by a nuclear bomb! That's how tough it was!)
Unfortunately, I'm not so tough so when Tyler's van slid on the ice, I was lucky enough to not freeze up and move like J- Leah had taught me. Poor Tyler wasn't so lucky, I realized as I opened the door.
"Tyler?"
"Hey… Bella? Was that you I almost ran into? I'm… I'm soooorrryyyy,' He slurred as I unbuckled his seatbelt.
"Come on, Tyler. I'm okay. You need help."
"But I hurt you," He mumbled.
"No, Tyler. You didn't hurt me. My truck is barely scratched. I'm okay," I tried to stress as people clambered around us.
"Bellllaaaa! I'm sorryyyyyyyy!"
"It's okay, Tyler." I mumbled as he was loaded into the ambulance. They tried to get me onto a stretcher but I told them ?I was fine and that they needed to help Tyler. I didn't even get my jeans ripped but Tyler had a huge gash on his head. I hope he doesn't get…. hurt where his brain is.
Tyler was made that way on purpose. Not because I pictured him as stupid but because the real accident scene was a bit too fake for my liking. Who can form a coherent sentence with the migraine he should have gotten when he crashed?! Anyway, if you have any questions, comments, or you want to take another stab at the plot (I know you know who you are!) then Review!
