It's All In The PAST!
I blinked in surprise when Dr. Cullen came into the room with what I later found out were medical charts on a clipboard.
"Dad, what's Carlisle doing here?" I muttered. Charlie narrowed his eyes.
"You don't call him that to his face, do you?"
"No, of course not." I mumbled, realizing my mistake. I just knew enough about him to know that his name was actually Carlisle Cullen and apparently he was more than my psychiatrist.
"I work at the hospital Bella." He reminded me gently. I nodded.
"Oh, right. Okay. I'm fine, really. Tyler's the one that got hurt when he slid into my truck. You should make sure he doesn't have… that… thing that happens with accidents. The one where you're not supposed to sleep?"
"I'll make sure he doesn't have a concussion, Bella. Thank you for noticing."
"He didn't look so good."
"You're not getting out of a medical exam." He informed me. I rolled my eyes.
"Help Tyler."
Dr. Cullen nodded solemnly and made for my classmate's hospital bed.
Lauren gave me the Death Glare for a while and Jessica snickered every time. Somehow I knew we wouldn't last long as "friends." Not while Mike was trying to hit on me and Jessica stuck with her other friends. Tyler's insistence on taking me to prom only made it worse. Poor Edward almost growled when he was trapped between Tyler and Mike because Tyler wanted to ask. I hope he didn't take it out on his siblings.
"Bella, you saved my life. There must be something I can do to repay you-" I whirled on him with a serious look.
"No more accidents, Jason." I growled. "Like none. Ever. I'll get Leah to drive you around if I have to but no driving for like… the rest of the year! Just… no crashing!"
I snarled.
Tyler looked shocked; I realized when I shook myself out.
"Is he a friend?" He asked softly. I narrowed my eyes and tilted my head in confusion.
"Who?"
"You called me Jason." He told me. I flinched involuntarily. "And you mentioned someone called Leah. Are they your friends?"
"Yeah," I mumbled. "They are."
"Cool. I'll try not to crash anymore, kid." I blinked. "Why'd you call me that?"
"Because you were acting like one." Tyler looked amused. I rolled my eyes.
"Just don't call me Kitten." I informed him. "Ever." He nodded solemnly.
"No cat jokes got it."
"I was serious about someone driving you. I'm sure Lauren would be more than happy to help. She's pretty cool."
Wow…The things I do to make sure people fall in love.
"She's been giving you the Glare for the last few days. Why are you defending her?"
"Because she likes you," I told him, matter-of-factly. "And you like her. Just let her drive you. You'll see."
"Thanks, kid."
"Anytime, Tyler. Stay off the road for a few weeks, yeah?"
"Yeah, kid."
It's Friday, so I'm hoping Dad will help me find Leah. Apparently she was around here somewhere, and I was going to find her.
"Dad?" I called out when I got home.
"Hey, kiddo. How was school?"
"It was good."
"What'd you do today?"
"People talked but the Cullens helped me out. There's someone in all of my classes and we got to sit wherever we want as long as we got our work done and I already sit by most of them so they were nice and we played games and they helped me if I didn't get it which only happened like five times but Angela and Ben are warming up to them, I think. Lauren's been acting weird and Tyler tried to ask me to prom but I told him no and he said he had to pay me back for helping him-."
"Breathe, Bella." Charlie muttered. I snickered.
"So I told him not to crash anymore…"
"What happened?" Charlie asked.
"Nothing bad… I called him Jason, that's all. We got it straightened out and I pointed him toward Lauren and now he has to ask her to prom or I might have to slap him."
"No slapping people, Bella. It's not nice."
"I'll do it if I have to. I'm sick of all these boys! They think they like me but I know they don't! It's ridiculous! Boys are stupid and stupid Mike Newton can go die in a hole!" I snarled.
"Whoa, slow down there, Tiger. No need to go cursing everyone around. Boys are generally stupid at this age and they don't get better any time soon. A few of them, but mostly they like hitting on girls. You make them leave you alone and they'll get the message that you don't like them sooner or later. "
"Oh, I forgot! Can I go with Angela to Port Angeles? She and Jessica are shopping for dresses and they want my opinion."
"It'll be good for you to have some girl time, kiddo. Do you have the pepper spray I bought you?"
"Yes." It sat right on my dresser, easily accessible. I knew Charlie meant well. I wasn't defenseless, but I wasn't invincible either. Jason had taught me that.
"Well, as long as you stay with them and call me if anything happens, I'm fine with it."
"Will do." I chirped as I raced out to Jessica's car. Angela sat in the back and I slid in beside her. I waved from the window as the car drove off. I'd never seen my father cry and I certainly didn't want to start now.
