Demetri was sent to find him and I sat there completely unresponsive to anyone. My father had sat and spoke to me, my Uncle Carlisle implored, my Aunt Esme begged and Jane cried for some response from me, Elizabeth even came to try and help me, but I couldn't responded. My mind was trapped in circles of possibilities for what could have happened, each worse than the previous and as much as I tried to, I couldn't think of a response to what they said because known of it made sense. I wanted to be doing something practical to find my husband and tell him what I had wanted to for a few days before the battle but never got the chance but everyone agreed it was best if I stayed her and there was no way I could escape the guard. Jane sat with me most of the time and once she understood that she wasn't getting any response from me we just sat in silence or at least, I sat in silence as she tried to keep the atmosphere upbeat by chatting away like Alice would. But in my mind, Alec was already dead and nothing was going to change that unless I saw him again. It was like I was preparing myself in case Demetri came back without him.

'Your highness?' Will appeared in the doorway, he and Elizabeth had taken up a place on the guard since they had both been trained to fight well though neither were talented in the way many members of the guard were. He spoke softly as everyone did around me as though they were walking on the most fragile eggshells known to man. 'Your father wishes to see you.'

I rose slowly but didn't show any other sign that I had heard what Will said and made my way through the castle without a thought of where my feet where taking me. They knew where father would most likely be, I didn't need to put any thought into it.

'Izzy,' I heard a voice sigh and knew Jane was walking along side me, only know becoming aware of her hand in my own. 'I'll say this once more and then I swear never to speak the words again but Al is fine, you would know if he wasn't.'

I forced a smile onto my face, I had thought that too but it had been a few weeks and no word from Alec or Demetri.

'Izzy, Alec is upstairs,' that caught my attention enough to make me freeze in my steps and turn to face her. She smiled. 'I promise I wouldn't lie to you and I was supposed to let you just walk down there and see for yourself but I can't, you'd break his heart if he saw you, so pull yourself together, please. I'm not lying, I would never lie to you about this so can I please see a smile.'

'He's okay?' I asked feeling life flow back into me and Jane must have seen that as her smile widened.

'A bit dirty but he's fine,' Jane replied. 'One of the newborns had a teleporting power and I'll let him explain but he's fine. He's the normal Alec, he just missed you. So put a smile on that beautiful face and go see your husband.'

Against my will, my face complied to Jane's request and though I didn't feel completely sure in her words, I picked up my pace toward the throne room and as she promised: she wasn't lying. Alec turned to face me and I managed to beam at him though inside I was laughing. He was a completely mess. His uniform was torn, his hair all over the place and dirt smudge over his face but that didn't bother me as I ran to him at Vampire speed. No one else but Jane was in the room so I leaped into his arms and kissed him. My legs were wrapped around his hips and he was holding me there, one hand around my waist the other on my waist. I kissed him for all I was worth and heard Jane slowly shut the door.

'I' - kiss - 'missed' - kiss - 'you,' I told him between kisses as he tried to stop us moving in a circle from the momentum I had created.

'I missed you too,' he replied his voice a sigh as I quit kissing him and buried my head in his shoulder. He set my on my feet and hugged me to him but I pulled back my eyes scanning over him to look for any missing limbs or other injuries. 'I'm fine, how's my wife?'

I figured this was the perfect time to tell him since he asked though it wasn't exactly how I wanted to, I had to get it out, 'she thinks she pregnant.'

'What?!' he pulled back further and stared at me before what I said clicked in his head and he lifted me back off the floor and into the air to spin me around. I laughed and lowered my head to kiss him. 'Really?

'I think so,' I replied when I was on the floor again. 'I'm pretty sure actually. My uncle thinks so as well.'

'I didn't think it was possible,' he chuckled, brushing a strand of hair away from my face.

'But it is,' I grinned. 'It's happening.'

I giggled in happiness.
