(Wake me up) Wake me up inside
(I can't wake up) Wake me up inside
Hours had gone by and his study was a mess once again, when he finally came up with an idea on what the problem may be. One of the books he was looking through had an explanation about death. He sat there, re-reading that passage a few times and realized which books he had to look for. Standing he took the book with him as he headed towards the library, upon entering he set the book down on a desk nearby and read it again. The passage read:
While the soul is one of the most valuable and important aspects of a being, it is not the only thing of importance. To maintain life, both a soul and a spirit are required. Without a soul the spirit can die and without a spirit the soul may keep the being alive but they will remain asleep.
That's what was missing, that must have been the reason for Tensaiga pulsating. Thus he began researching separate books, ones on spirits and ones on souls. Each book gave him a similar answer to that one in regards to the soul but the ones with the spirit left him with a bit of confusion.
A spirit can die without a soul but it can also sleep. In some cases a living person's spirit can be broken and in doing so they feel as if their life is worth nothing more. Someone with a broken spirit can only be saved by another caring for them and taking the time and patience to repair their heart. The heart and spirit are usually linked. However if a spirit is asleep it is a different story.
As a spirit sleeps, it become dormant, waking it may be near to impossible unless someone who cares for them enough is willing to enter the dream realm. It is within this realm a spirit can be retrieved but it may not be an easy task and it can also be a dangerous one. To enter the dream realm of the person the incantation below must be said and the person's name mentioned at the end. Entering this realm there is one way in and one way out, there is a limited time for a spirit to be rescued from here and it must be done before 24 hours of this spell being cast.
This is where it all came together for the demon lord. He had retrieved her soul but her spirit had to be what was missing now. Opening yet another book, one about priestesses he got the answer he was seeking. Sure enough the previous book had been correct.
For a priestess, their powers depend on their spirit, the stronger their spirit, the stronger their abilities. Even in death their spirit can protect them but should a strong magical occurrence take place from their body, their spirit will fall dormant, possibly asleep or dead, in this case it would be difficult to help the person return to the world of the living.
Difficult? That wasn't a word in his vocabulary, nothing was difficult for him, especially since these books had general information and knew not of his most powerful and helpful weapon, the Tensaiga. Sesshomaru sighed, something he rarely did, it would seem he would have to enter the dream realm and in doing so get back her spirit. After what she did for him anyway, he owed it to her. True she gave him back his arm as a thank you for her soul but what good was it for her to even have her soul if she lost her spirit in the process of helping and thanking him.
This also made everything quite clear to him about those dreams for the past three weeks. Her spirit lingering in the dream realm, she had managed to invade his dreams in that state, but now he had to reach her in that world, a task that was, hard but not difficult. Taking the book with the incantation in it, he left the library and headed towards his room, summoning a maid to gather him the supplies listened within the passage, the woman quickly ran off to do as she was told.
Sunlight found the small group sleeping in the clearing, Inuyasha had taken a light nap but his heart remained broken. He didn't know what to do, Kikyo was gone and Kagome as well, he may have had a chance to get Kagome back perhaps but would she even want to come back with him after the things he had said? What about his stupidity at believing Kikyo? He thought she was back home and safe, like an idiot he thought Kikyo's new vibrancy was because she was happy over their union and confession to each other, he never thought perhaps it was something else.
The signs were there, she wasn't collecting souls and yet he never questioned it. He didn't even think it mattered any more. The irony was that despite what Naraku intended to do, Inuyasha still found it difficult to hate Kikyo, which in itself was ironic because when Kagome had released him from that tree long ago, he had hated her, thinking and believing her to have been Kikyo.
Lost in thought he hadn't heard his friends awaken until Miroku knocked on the bark of the tree. "Inuyasha did you hear me?" he called.
The half demon looked down at him startled and almost lost his balance in his tree. "Huh? What?" he asked as he jumped down from his perch.
"Do you want some breakfast? You've been in a daze for an hour now, Sango cooked the last of the ramen and wanted to know if you wanted some?"
"Oh uh...I'm not hungry..."
Sango and Miroku looked at each other in surprise but shrugged. "Well let's get going then, we have quite a way to go and we have to try and get back too since Sesshomaru has Kagome's body," Sango explained.
The half demon merely nodded and watched as she packed everything up. Once they were ready, Sango, Miroku and Shippo all rode on Kirara heading towards the village. Inuyasha of course opting for running as usual.
By noon, they arrived at Kaede's village, nonstop route of course and they had rushed there. Without all the frequent stops and without walking, they got around a lot faster but only when necessary. Once there, they entered the old priestess's hut, all but Inuyasha and they explained to her what occurred. Kaede nodded and walked out, she walked to Inuyasha and sighed, "I'm sorry ye are hurting so but do not forget, ye still need to find Kagome. It does not help but my sister was not supposed to be living in this world again, its best we move on and let her soul finally rest where it belongs. Ye will miss her but it is not the end of thy world," Kaede stated and waited for Inuyasha to hand her the cloth of Kikyo's remains.
Taking it she walked towards the sacred burial that had been restored after that witch had taken her remains a few years ago. "Come, ye will want to be present for this," she called without turning around.
Sango and Miroku along with Shippo and Kirara stayed at the hut but watched as Inuyasha dejectedly stood up from bracing against a wood fence and followed the old woman to the burial site.
It didn't take long for Kaede to place the remains in the hole Inuyasha had dug and she proceeded to say a few words and a prayer. They then departed after Kaede placed a seal on Kikyo's grave, preventing history from repeating itself.
The two walked back in silence, Kaede knew that the half demon needed the quiet time to think and try to let the past go, something she was sure would be difficult for him.
When they got back, Sango, Miroku and Shippo were ready to go again and they all left, heading quickly back towards the west for Kagome. To save her as Inuyasha thought considering his brother had her.
It had taken the night and most of the day to prepare for what he was about to do, every bit of this spell had to be done right. The candles were placed in both his room and the one he had her in. The incense set 3 each in both rooms. The book sat on the table near his bed and he stood there, dressed as usual, he had already taken his bath and gathered the herbs as well that would be needed to burn with the incense.
(Save me) Call my name and save me from the dark
(Wake me up) Bid my blood to run
(I can't wake up) Before I come undone
(Save me) Save me from the nothing I've become
To ensure he'd find her he began to shift through his dresser again and searched for another box, this one was plain but concealed a very brilliant piece of jewelry. It was a silver ring with the obvious crescent moon on it for the gem, the gem being a sapphire to mark his crescent moon, naturally.
Walking to her he placed the ring on her right hand middle finger; this ring would help him in the dream realm to locate her within. Jaken knocked on the door then and he turned to the door, "enter."
Stepping away from Kagome he looked at the door, watching as the toad demon walked in cautiously. "Mi'lord...your brother, Lord Inuyasha is on his way here," he informed him. "Will you be-"
"No. Keep him and his friends out of the castle, I do not need them here." He ordered.
"Yes Mi'lord." As he was about to close the door the demon lord spoke up once more.
"Jaken. Do not fail me this time," his words were quite clear in its meaning. He was more than serious this time, not that he hadn't been before but this one held a different tone to it, more acidic and threatening, which told Jaken his death was near should he fail.
The toad demon gulped and nodded, "ah yes Mi'Lord..." he closed the door and ran off to deal with the group that was heading their way.
Sesshomaru walked to his door and locked it and set up a barrier for the two rooms, should Inuyasha even manage to enter the castle, he would e unable to interrupt the spell. This was a sensitive incantation and he didn't need to have it jeopardized by his idiot of a brother. At least the Tetsusaiga's inability to transform and remove the barrier was in his favor. Turning to the sleeping priestess he began to light each of the candles within her room and then his.
Moving to the next step and following the instructions within the book he light the incense and burned the necessary herbs as well. And finally once everything was set in motion, he took his seat on his bed and drank the tea that was next to the book, picking up the book he began to recite the incantation and lay back, closing his eyes, slowly sleep overcame him and he fell into the realm of dreams.
A/N: Yep that's right, a new chapter already! But the only thing is it ended up shorter I know. Now I'm sure you see the words for the song, yes this is supposed to be a song fic but with chapters, so keep in mind, it may not be an exact song fic as you may be used too but this is my version. Long ago this story was 1 chapter and the song was done within the story, however due to too many flames and people telling me I don't know what I'm doing, I got frustrated with it. So deciding to rewrite this, I also chose to make it longer and make it clear that this is still in a way a song fic to me, whether you agree or not, at least respect my attempt at it and don't flame me. Thanks.
Special note: thanks for the few reviews I received, you guys are really sweet and I hope despite it being short, that you enjoy this chapter. Personally, I'm quite anxious for the next chapter as it'll have more Kagome/Sesshomaru than Sesshomaru preparing and Inuyasha's group burying Kikyo lol. Anyway again hope you like it and please remember to review - those are what inspires me to continue writing. Favorites and follows are nice but the reviews are what helps me write :)
