~Yukio's POV~
I was slightly startled when my brother suddenly opened the door, but I grew worried when I saw his eyes. He had his hand halfway in the air to wave slightly, but he glanced at Konekomaru who was even more scared than before and just put his hand down, sitting down in the back. I glanced at everyone and they all sat down in their usual spots as I began my lesson. Occasionally I would glance back at Rin, and he was looking at the board, but his mind seemed to have drifted off.
I shrugged it off, but that blank look in his eye bothered me. After class was over we all just kind of hung around, not really sure what to do. It was the last class of the day, but normally Rin would jump and be the first one out, but he continued to sit there, still staring into space.
I approached him, as did the other students, but most kept their distance, unlike Izumo.
"Rin?" I waved my hand in his face.
He didn't move.
Shima was the next to approach, poking his shoulder with his staff. "Hey, buddy, what's up?"
Bon just eyes him kind of angrily. "Oi, monkey, wake up."
We continued to try and wake him up for 15 minutes, until he finally stirred, after I had said his name in his ear.
"Oy, moley four-eyes, what're you doing?"
I stared at him for a moment, stunned. "Well, class ended 15 minutes ago…"
He quickly looked at the clock, and realized, it was indeed 15 minutes past.
"Oh… Well, I have pans, so… cya later, moley four eyes." He grabbed his stuff and rushed out of the room.
Bon eyed me warily. "What plans?"
"The plans that have him coming home between midnight and 2 in the morning," I sighed.
"Then shouldn't we follow him? Or interrogate him?" Izumo mumbled, staring at us.
"I've tried to follow, but he just… vanishes, as if he never left to begin with."
"Well, what if he isn't leaving?" Izumo suggested. "What if he's just going somewhere else in the building?"
"I've checked every room, except for the 5 locked doors on the second to top floor. But they're locked from the inside, and they were locked when we first came to the building, before Rin even got a chance to look around, so he can't be there unless he broke one of them and replaced it, which is highly unlikely."
"Hmm…" Izumo mumbled something to herself, thinking about where he could have gone. "What if he's just going into town?"
"He answered my question with that, but once it passed dinner, at around 10, I went around asking people if they or anyone else saw Rin. They all said they hadn't seen him. He also said that he went on walks, but I don't know why he would take one every day and continuously forget the way back and spend 'hours' figuring out a route."
"I guess then we'll have to follow him the next time he has 'plans'." Izumo said with an air of finality.
"B-But what if he catches you?" Konekomaru mumbled.
"Well, I wanna know what's going on with that blue-haired monkey, so I'm going." Bon proclaimed.
"I can't let Bon have all the fun." Shima laughed, but the nervousness was clear on his face.
"If… If Bon and Shima are going, I guess it would be alright…" Konekomaru mumbled.
"I-I wanna help Rin-sama!" Shiemi decided, stomping her foot for emphasis.
"Well, I guess that means we'll be – will we be following or interrogating?" Izumo mumbled.
"I think we should interrogate. What if we follow him somewhere dangerous?" Konekomaru mumbled again.
"I hate to admit it, but Konekomaru has a point." Izumo nodded.
I just sighed. "Alright, then, he should be back in our room at about midnight or 2, we just have to wait him out."
Everyone nodded and left the classroom.
~Midnight~
"Alright." I was sitting in the bedroom with some of my students. Those students being Bon, Shima, Konekomaru, Izumo, and Shiemi.
"It's midnight." Izumo stated calmly, staring at the watch she had brought.
"So-So he should be coming between now and 2?" Konekomaru asked, staying close to Shima and Bon.
"Yes." I nodded, hearing the kettle whistle. "What's that?" I stared at the door.
"The kettle is whistling. Did you turn it on?" Shiemi looked at me.
"No, I didn't.."
Everyone physically tensed.
I picked up my pistols and motioned for them to follow me, heading down to the kitchen.
We leaned on the wall. The doorway to the kitchen was directly in front of us.
"On my signal." I mumbled. I knew they heard me, though, as they nodded in agreement.
I pointed to the doorway and we turned on the lights, charging, staring at the figure.
The figure looked up at us, his eyes half-closed, bags under his eyes, and he was pale.
"Rin?!" I sputtered. It was probably my imagination, but he looked a little skinnier than the last time I had seen him. He stared as us blankly for a moment before a look of realization crossed his face, and suddenly shrieked, jumping backwards, dropping the steaming kettle.
The scalding water splashed all over him and he shrieked again, grabbing for something to wipe it off, which he quickly did, standing up, his eyes wide, but they quickly became blank and half-lidded for a moment.
"What'rudoin' here?" He said, his words slurring.
'What are you doing here?" I echoed back at him.
"Mmmakin' tee.." He rubbed his head, squinting from the light. He glanced up for a moment, the light making his bags more visible. His skin was whitish.
"Nii-Chan, you don't look very well…" I stared at his pale face.
Shiemi mouth dropped slightly. "R-Rin-sama!"
Izumo, Bon, Shima, and Konekomaru just stared.
" 'M fine.." He mumbled, refilling the kettle and putting it back on the stove. He looked like that if he were to fall he would shatter. Now that I thought about this, he was kind of like this during class, but he didn't look this tired - or hungry - in class.
"No, Nii-Chan, you're not fine." I walked over to him, resting a hand on his arm. He didn't react, but his thin arm slipped easily out of my grasp as he went to get the tea bag and mug.
"Oi, blue-haired monkey, I think you should go lay down," Bon said, a look of worry making its way onto his face.
Rin seemed to roll his eyes, his pupils dilated slightly. "Whaever…" He mumbled, pouring the water. He missed the mug and just kept pouring it on the table, his forehead against the cabinet. He didn't seem to realize at first before using his other hand to stop it from pouring before pouring it into the mug.
I approached behind him and pushed the kettle down on the table with one hand before gripping him by the shoulders. "Nii-Chan, you look like a ghost." I stated plainly, staring at the back of his head. His hair stood out more against his pale skin.
"Whaever…" He mumbled again, attempting to pull himself from my grasp, but I tightened my grasp and turned him around, pushing him through the door.
The other looked at each other worriedly, following us out.
I pushed him onto his bed in our room, and even though he attempted to get up, his body went slightly limp, and he just stared blankly.
"Nii-Chan. Go to sleep. It's Friday, you can sleep in tomorrow morning." I told him, and he didn't respond as his body went limp and his eyes shut.
"I wonder what had him so exhausted.." Bon mumbled.
"I didn't see him at lunch." Izumo told us all.
Shima rubbed his chin, thinking for a moment. "I didn't see him either. Not today or yesterday."
"Neither did I." Bon sighed.
"He wasn't here this morning." I added, before freezing up. "I don't think he's eaten since breakfast yesterday…" I said in realization.
Shiemi stared at me, her mouth slightly open. "Why… Why wouldn't he eat?" She said, whimpering slightly.
I sighed. "I don't know, Shiemi. I don't know." But as soon as I said that, I remember what he said. 'I'm sorry for being such a disappointment'. "We should rest… You guys can stay here for tonight, since you're being supervised by a teacher."
Izumo nodded. "It's too late to head back to the dorms, anyway. I'll just text Paku that I'm not going home so that she doesn't worry if I'm not back in the morning. " She pulled out her phone, quickly sending a message.
Shima and Konekomaru took the room next to mine and Rin's, Bon took the one next to them, and Izumo and Shiemi took the one across the hall.
I stared at my brother for a few minutes before going into the bathroom and getting ready, falling asleep almost as soon as I hit the mattress.
