Epilogue
December 31st, 2002, 11.45 p.m.
Ginny was fixing the flowers into Hermione's perfect bun. The kind of flowers which are small but leave the wearer with beautifully decorated hair. Hermione's dress was white, of course. It had a simple strapless bodice with diamonds and started with flair from the waist all the way to the floor. The flair was all lace, beautifully crafted.
"Blaise is gonna flip when he sees you in this." Ginny said, smiling. The bridesmaid wore a simple dark green knee-length dress, with a simple bow on the left side. Ginny had unconsciously picked this dress and regretted it. She hated green.
"By flip, you mean totally be like, 'Why didn't you show me this? It is more beautiful than me and my best man in a suit put together. And I haven't even started on how you look.' Is that what he'd say?" Hermione asked, stifling a laugh.
"Yeah totally. And stop laughing Hermione." Ginny said, struggling to put lipstick on her friend.
"I can do it myself, Gin." She said, once Ginny was done.
"No, you can't. This is your wedding, and I have strict permission from Blaise, your mum and my mum to be allowed to do your make-up."
"Then I may just have earned permission to do yours on your big day," Hermione smiled a true smile. "I'm happy for you. All those times I tried to play matchmaker for you and your knight in shining platinum. I'm glad I actually tried. He's not that bad, once I got to know him."
"You're like his sister from another mother. His words, not mine." Ginny said.
"Glad he thinks so. So when are you getting married, huh?" Hermione asked jokingly.
"Honestly, I don't know. I don't care if we get married or not. I just know that I want to spend my life with him and us getting married will just increase our fights."
"It will. It will also increase your love for each other. Isn't that one of the cliché sayings? Anyway, I can't say I know its amazing being in love and married but look at your parents. High school sweethearts and still in love with seven beautiful children." Hermione leaned closer to Ginny and whispered in her ear. "He told me once that he wants more kids than the whole Weasley clan put together. So will you let him fulfil his destiny?" Ginny blushed red at that and hit her friend on the arm.
"Hermione, you're getting married in less than 15 minutes. No time for perverted jokes." Ginny said, grabbing the bridesmaid's flowers. The rest of the bridesmaids include, Fleur and little Victoire, who were waiting outside.
"Sorry, can't help. Happens when you hang out with a certain person who's my brother from another mother." Hermione said and grabbed her flowers as well.
"All set? No crying when we step outside, okay? It's your wedding and you need to stay strong." Ginny said, ushering Hermione outside.
"You look beautiful, Hermione." Fleur said, once they went outside.
"Thank, Ph- Fleur. You too. And so does little Vicky. Smile for Aunt Mione, Vicky." Hermione said, tickling the little girl. Victoire pulled away and smiled.
"Time to go, Hermione. Blaise zis waiting for you." Fleur said.
"All right, all right. Let's get going." She said. They were going to have a Magical Wedding as planned. Once they reached the back of the aisle, Ginny handed Hermione over to her father, who took her arm in his and walked her down the aisle, the bridesmaids following, Ginny first, Victoire behind her and Fleur at the back.
As they reached the end of the aisle, Ginny took a glimpse at Blaise whose eyes were bright and set on Hermione. Mr. Granger handed his daughter to Blaise and walked away to his seat. Ginny, Victoire and Fleur followed Hermione and stood a couple of steps away from her. Ginny let her eyes wonder away to Draco, who looked stunning in a Muggle suit with a dark green velvet blazer, matching her own dress colour. Blaise had insisted that he and Draco wear Muggle suits, just to keep balance as it was a Wizarding Wedding with the bride a Muggle.
"Today we gather to celebrate the union of two faithful souls..." Began the tall, white-haired wizard. Ginny glanced around, looking at the guests present. Hagrid sat at the very back along with Professor Snape who had come because of Draco's insistence. Blaise's mother sat in the front and she looked glamorous than all the people present including the bride and bridegroom put together. Beside her sat Mrs Granger who was crying softly on Mr Granger's shoulder. She spotted George next to Fred and locked eyes with him who smiled back at her. She noticed Fred's line of vision and saw that he was looking at Draco.
Fred still hadn't gotten over his attraction or crush over Hermione. He still cuts according to George who forgot his grudge with Draco once he knew the real reason behind Fred's silence. Draco truly wished he could do something about the problem but unfortunately this wedding had not allowed anything to happen. He just hoped that Fred moves on soon and finds an amazing girl matching his bubbly personality.
"Do you, Blaise François, take Hermione Jean as your wife?" The tall wizard asked.
"I do." Blaise said, smiling brightly. His suit was black, of course.
"Do you, Hermione Jean, take Blaise François as your husband?"
"I absolutely do." She said, but Draco noticed her eyes flicker towards Fred's figure for a split second. Maybe she knew, Draco thought.
"Then I declare you bonded for life." The white-haired wizard said and waved his wand high over the heads of Blaise and Hermione and a shower of silver stars fell upon them spiralling around their now entwined figures. Just the as well, fireworks were displayed in the night sky. It was planned of course. Hermione and Blaise wanted to get married right on the first second of New Year.
Fred and George let a round of applause, the golden balloons overhead bursting: Birds of paradise and tiny golden bells flew and floated out of them, adding their songs and chimes to the din. It was just like they had done in Bill and Fleur's wedding. Soon after, the white-haired wizard asked the guests to stand up and the chairs were pushed back around tables that had appeared and in the centre appeared the dance floor. Music started to play and almost everyone save Professor Snape, got partners to dance with.
Ginny was dancing with Charlie when a poke at her shoulder got her to turn around.
"Can I borrow her for a while?" The intruder asked.
"Of course. Actually, you can keep her for the rest of the night." Charlie said and left, looking for someone else. Ginny wrapped her arms around the other man's shoulder as he wrapped his arms around her waist and they both started moving slowly to the music.
"Are you finally happy?" He asked her.
"Absolutely. I'm glad it's over. Now I don't have to hear Hermione panic over wedding items any longer. It was a nightmare while that lasted but I'm happy she got married to him."
"I saw her hesitate. For like a split second. She was looking at Fred."
"Did she know? I thought we agreed on not letting her know." Ginny asked, confused.
"We did. But I don't know if she actually knew. Maybe it was a coincidence." He said.
"Yeah, maybe." She said. Draco looking over her shoulder at the married couple who were dancing. He was happy for them. Happier than anyone else present. He smiled, loving the feeling of Ginny in his arms and he didn't want to let go. And that's when he realised. It was time.
"Do you mind getting fresh air for a while?" He asked.
"Yeah, I don't mind." She said, and led him outside. The fireworks were less in the sky now and the moon was shining brightly. Draco took her arm and they both walked on the snow, breathing in the cold winter's air. The surrounding area was charmed to be warm, and they snow had started to melt already, but nevertheless, it was a beautiful night.
"A galleon for your thought." Ginny told Draco.
"How do you know I was even thinking?" He asked, rubbing circles on her knuckles with his thumb.
"You're rubbing my knuckles. You do that every time you're deep in thought." She explained. Draco looked down at their entwined hands and smiled.
"Maybe I'm thinking of ways to ruin that pretty dress you're wearing now." He said and wiggled his eyebrows.
"Nah, I don't think so. You do that when you're sucking on my bottom lip. What's the real deal?"
"Nothing." Draco said and stopped in his steps.
"Nothing really?" Ginny asked.
"Yeah. I didn't want to take the spotlight off Mr and Mrs Zabini."
"And that is because?"
"I love you." He blurted out and blushed, his cheeks tinged pink. Ginny was taken aback. "I mean, you don't have to say it back. I just wanted you to know." He said.
"There's more, isn't there?" She said. Draco nodded and continued.
"I'm not one of those guys who does the long speeches and all that but I just wanted to tell you this one sentence." He leaned closer to her ear. "Will you be Mrs Ginevra Malfoy?" He asked, slipping a ring onto her finger already.
"I haven't even answered. How do you know I'd say yes." She asked, looking down at her ring finger. It was a simple platinum band, and letters were engraved on it. D + G. Ginny smiled.
'That's the thing. I don't." He said, slipping his arms around her.
"We've been together for like what, five days?" She asked.
"Ginevra, I've been holding that ring for two years." He confessed. "Really. You can check with the shop." He said, after noticing Ginny's expression.
"You've loved me for that long?" She asked, looking into his grey eyes.
"I wouldn't say I knew I loved you for that long. But I did plan on giving you the ring. I only realised it today." He said and frowned. "You haven't said yes."
"Shut up, Draco." She muttered, kissing him smack on the lips. Draco smiled and kissed her back, his hands running up her spine and tangled them in her hair. Soon, he was sucking on her bottom lip when they heard the whistles. The both pulled apart, breathless and realised that they had gathered an audience with Fred and George Weasley at the front.
Blaise and Hermione ran to the blushing couple and hugged them hard.
"Oh my God, you actually proposed to her." Hermione screamed in delight.
"Sorry, Mione. Didn't want to divert the attention so I did it out here." Draco said.
"Divert the attention? Draco, don't you see that everyone is literally in shock." Hermione said, smiling.
"Well, thank Merlin. You finally brought the ring to the surface. Can't remember how long I saw seeing that thing lying around." Blaise smirked.
"Shut up, Blaise." Draco muttered and whispered in Ginny's ears, "Do you wanna go?" He asked. Ginny nodded and he took her hand.
"We will be going." Draco said. Blaise and Hermione nodded and took a step back.
"Wait! We'll be planning your wedding!" They heard Fred and George scream before Disapparating.
THE END
