A/N: Alas I return! Sorry for the delay! I've been really busy this past week, so I hope this chapter lives up to your expectations! Enjoy!
Two weeks earlier, JJ had called Reid crying.
She was hysterical because Will said he wasn't in love with her anymore. "He doesn't know why," JJ sobbed. "He doesn't even know when it happened. He just doesn't feel the love and passion like he used to."
Reid listened to JJ's trembling voice, all the while thinking about how stupid Will was. How could he ever let JJ walk away from him? She was a wonderful woman, and they even had a son together. Had Will considered for a second what this would do to Henry?
"What does Will want to do?" Reid asked gently. "Is he wanting a…?" His voice trailed off and he couldn't bring his self to say divorce. It was too ugly a word to be associated with JJ.
"Not yet," she whispered. "We're separated for now. He wants time on his own to figure things out. He doesn't want to do this to Henry, but Will can't help the way he feels."
"Maybe it's for the best," Reid had said. "Henry would rather his parents be happier apart than miserable together."
"That's a good point," was her response.
Things had gotten better temporarily for JJ though. After being gone for a few days, Will had came back. "It was a phase," she'd explained on her next phone call. "He thinks he's gotten over it. He's ready to be a family again."
Reid thought it was too good to be true. He could hear the doubt in JJ's voice when she told him. She didn't believe her own words either.
Will had conditions though. They'd agreed to give one another space, and they slept in separate bedrooms. "It's better this way," she told Garcia and Kate at work the next day. Reid had overheard from his cubicle. "We need to stay together for Henry's sake."
It was a horrible idea. It didn't take a genius to figure that out. Eventually Henry, being the smart kid he was, would realize that his parents resented each other. They needed to do what was best for all of them.
That's why Reid had called tonight. He couldn't stand keeping his feelings bottled up anymore. He wanted JJ to know that he was in love with her. Will wasn't the only man in the world that could make her happy.
"Nothing's wrong," Reid said in reply to her nervous voice. "I just have a bit of an announcement is all."
"Whatever it is, you call tell me," JJ said. "We don't judge one another, Spence."
He took a deep breath. "I love Henry more than anything," he said. "I really do. He's amazing and everything I could've asked for in a godson. He's perfect. It's just…"
"What?"
"I love him enough to know that he shouldn't be the only reason you and Will stay together," Reid said. "You're miserable JJ. You constantly wonder if he's out with another woman when he's working late. You're always questioning what it is that turns him off about you now. It's not right. You deserve so much better than that. And so does Henry."
JJ didn't say anything at first. Reid held his breath, afraid that she about to yell at him for his bashing on Will. It wasn't his place, but it had to be done.
"What should I do then?" she finally said. "File for divorce?"
"In time," Reid said. "Just come over JJ. I'm heading home now. You can bring Henry, and we'll work through this together. I'll help you."
She was crying. "I love you," she said. "So much."
"I love you too," he said. "I'll be home as soon as I tell Morgan and Garcia where I'm going."
Reid grabbed his jacket from the hall closet and headed out. As soon as he was in the hallway, he found Morgan and Garcia. They were looking at each other as if there was no one else in the world.
Maybe ouija boards aren't supposed to be scary, Reid reasoned as he approached them. Maybe they were matchmakers. They had certainly done that for Derek and Penelope.
He cleared his throat. "Hey," he said. Then, when they still didn't notice his presence: "Hey," he said louder. "C'mon lovebirds."
They both looked at him sheepishly. "Sorry," Penelope said. "We've been...ah, talking. Sorry we took so long. Did the planchette spell anything else out?"
"Not really," Reid replied. "I'm heading home though. JJ's coming over and she needs my support. She's going through a lot with Will right now."
Derek grinned. "Did the Ouija tell you to fess up to your feelings, pretty boy?" he asked playfully. "Are you and JJ finally going to get together?"
"I don't know," he said. "I just want her to be happy. If that's with me, great. If she and Will can work everything out, I still support her."
"Aww," Penelope squealed. "Our little genius has feelings! You have to tell her Reid! She'll definitely reciprocate and understand. She deserves way better than Will anyway."
"I know," he said. "Hopefully I can help her to see that. She'll be way happier once she and Will separate and she's away from the drama."
"What are you waiting for?" Derek asked. "Get over there!"
With that said, Reid headed out to his car that was parked across the street. He couldn't wait to see JJ.
