Fruit Alphabet: Durian

"No Chrom, I am not going to eat that thing."

With a laugh, Chrom thrust a slice of the imposing fruit in his little sister's direction, "Oh come on, Lissa, it's not that bad. And come a little closer, will you?"

Chrom was, as Lissa observed from him over the course of all the years of being with him, very insistent. The young princess rolled her eyes at her brother and crossed her arms, "Yuck! And why in the heavens do you like something that smells like the fart of a skunk? I could barely stand ten meters away from you without wafting in the smell!" Lissa argued while trying her best to make her brother hear her voice from the large distance.

"Oh come on, it tastes good. See, Robin likes it too." Chrom chuckled in between coaxing his little sister and watching his tactician swallow like a hungry beast.

Robin was not even paying attention to the little discussion of her fiancé and his perky little sister. She was far too focused on the mouth-watering juices of the foul-smelling fruit in her hands. After all, it was one of her principles to not judge a food by its odor.

Lissa shrunk at the sight of Robin wolfing down the disgusting fruit, "Really, you two really fit each other like jigsaw puzzles." She said half-disappointed because of Robin being uncooperative and half-happy for her brother's love life, "No wonder you love each other."

"Hmm?" Chrom muttered while chewing on his own share of the fruit, "Did you say something, Lissa?"

"Nope!" Lissa merrily called back- popping the 'p'—before turning on her heels and fleeing the scene.

The two lovebirds weren't aware, but the whole population of the Shepherds already knew of their 'secret relationship'. By mere coincidence, all of the other members of their little militia have walked in on Chrom on one knee in the middle of the sunset. At that time, Lissa wanted to scream and squeal and run towards them and glomp them and congratulate them, but Frederick did a good job to silence all of the overreacting soldiers of the group. At the end of that day, they got away without alarming their commander and his tactician.

However, as much as the two wanted to keep their romance a hush hush, even if the whole soldiers-walking-in-on-their-commander-and-their-tactician did not surmise, Chrom would have already given away their relationship by his acts; he was abnormally doting when it came to Robin's diet and his hands were quick to wrap around her when given the slightest chance. There was even one event where Chrom tightly embraced Robin just because 'there was a spider on her back'; it was very hard for the Shepherds to not roll on the floor and laugh hard at his lame excuse.

At this very point of the day, while resting their tired bones under the shade of imposing trees, Stahl had made excuses for all of the other Shepherds to disperse and leave the royal couple alone. Of course Robin protested at first, but she was immediately shushed to silence by Vaike giving her his 'encouraging' speech of humiliation. And so, after the last one of the soldiers has escaped from the scene, plenty of moments have been handed out to the couple for their 'lovey-dovey' snuggles.

That is, if Chrom lovingly gazing at Robin and Robin ignoring Chrom for the sake of eating was in any way romantic.

After a few moments of just staring at his beau like a creepy stalker, the prince was snapped out of his trance after hearing the whine of his beloved.

"Chrom, it's disappeared. Poof, like a bubble popped." Robin said with her statement reeking of sarcasm.

Chrom peeled away his knuckles from under his chin, "You say that, but you actually just want me to get you another, right?" He answered her with a straight face.

"…"

At her silent remark of nodding her head, Chrom let out a hearty chuckle and stood up from where he was sitting. After recklessly dusting off some soil from his navy pants, he set off for a direction; prompting Robin to do the same. After a few seconds of walking, Chrom abruptly stopped and raised his head up to look unto a specific hardwood. Robin did the same and smiled at the sight of the juicy, smelly, spiked fruits hanging off the branches of the big tree. It was called 'Durian', and the female tactician absolutely loved the challenge of not minding the foul-odor while lavishing the taste.

"Alright," Chrom breathed out after turning towards Robin, "I'll climb up this tree and capture you those durians." He announced to her with a determined smirk on his handsome face.

After rubbing both of his gloved hands together, he turned around and was about to clamber up the bark when Robin's hands tightly encircled the stiffness of Chrom's muscles.

"I think it would be a better idea if I were the one to scale that tree." Robin stated with obvious worry etched in her eyes.

Chrom, although dense as anyone could get, caught this particular emotion with ease; his heart did a somersault at her concern, "Wipe that worry. Do you not have faith in me?"

Robin lightly shook her head, making her hair swish ever so elegantly before lightly fanning out and resting on her shoulders, "I do, Naga knows I do," She assured him and looked him straight in his cobalt eyes, "But it's just that I obviously weigh lighter that you do, making me the candidate for less chances of falling down."

With that, Chrom's lips tightened into a line. He pondered for a while before finally answering, "… You're right. I AM prone to breaking things," He smiled at her, "Branches, for instance." He paused for a while, indulging in her hazelnut eyes, "But what if you fall down?"

With a smirk gracing her cutely pink lips, Robin patted the left shoulder of Chrom with her right hand before she began to hoist herself up, "Then you just have to catch me before I fall."

A baritone laugh boomed out of Chrom's throat as he gave Robin a teasing expression, "Been there, done that."

Robin just giggled along with him. She had already anticipated that phrase, so she was not at all caught off-guard. Being with Chrom for quite some time already, Robin realized that in order to not make a buffoon of her genius self, she had to expect whatever there was that he could possibly throw at her. And for the record, she has been doing well the past few moments with him; only earning a fourth of all her past embarrassments per day.

And so Robin was crawling like a newt on the wooden branch of the tree. It was quite the skinny branch, so she was very careful not to put unnecessary force unto her wooden life support. When the branch has become too thin for her comfort, she had opted to stretching out her hand the furthest she could in order to grab her prey. Alright, just a little bit more…

But then Chrom decided to transform from an ungentlemanly prince into a huge, plain jerk.

"Yeah," Chrom started, "I'm glad I did. I never knew it would feel so good to have you land on top of my arms."

Robin's hearing senses suddenly malfunctioned; instead of "on top of my arms", her brain has miraculously paraphrased Chrom's wordings into: "I never knew it would feel so good to have you land on top of me." And so, she could not help but think of that as an insinuation.

And so she flushed so hard. And so she began shaking. And so her mind became completely drowned in embarrassment. And so the branch snapped.

And so she fell down.

"Waaah!" Robin yelped, bracing herself for the incoming pain.

But it never came. After all, Chrom was not a man to go back on his words, even if he were to do it in the most ungraceful way possible. In the last second, the prince decided to throw out all of what remained of his elegance aside and did a buzzer-beater of diving in for her.

"Hng," Robin groaned out as she tried to feel her senses again.

"Blazes Robin, how do you fare?" Chrom asked with concern dripping out of each word he uttered.

With a sigh, the female tactician reclined her back with a hand on top of the bottom of her spine. After getting a satisfactory stretch, Robin replied, "I'm fine, just a—goodness!"

Robin could not help but feel extremely hot in her face. After all, who would not be in realization of the current position Robin was in? It was probably the most humiliating accident she has been into; with the sight of Chrom elbowing the ground in an attempt to peek at her and her own legs hugging both the sides of his pelvis, it was so very awkward that her psychomotor senses have stopped working. And what's more, her cloak has managed to hang itself on one of the tree's branches, and so she now felt half-naked without her gear on.

She was straddling his hips, for Naga's sake. It looked so wrong and they appeared like they were—

"Captain Chrom, you have to—oh."

As if fate could turn any more wrong than it already was, Sully had suddenly appeared in front of them with the shock of her life posing in front of her.

"Looks like I interrupted somethin', huh? Should've known, it's god damned hot in here." Sully said with a smirk, "Never knew you two were into mating in public like dogs in heat. Oh well, better make a beeline for it. You two just continue fuc—"

"SULLY, we are NOT copulating!" Robin croaked out of sheer humiliation before scrambling away from Chrom's physique.

Chrom, on one side of the plain, clicked his tongue at the misfortune of him and his girlfriend. With a droned sigh, he lifted himself up from lying on the ground and into an Indian seat.

Sully just roared out a huge laughter and waved them off before sauntering away.

After the red-haired cavalier was officially out of their sight and earshot, Robin sighed and slumped her body under the protection of the towering durian tree. She brought her left hand to her face and pinched the bridge of her nose out of exhaustion. One bad luck after another, and now their relationship being a confidentiality was full of holes.

"Chrom, this…" Robin breathed out; her feet growing limp from the earlier impact.

"Yeah," Though Robin has not finished her sentence, Chrom knew what she was talking about and agreed, "It's nigh time we tell everyone our relationship."

Chrom's future wife did not think highly of the idea, but she realized that she had no choice. After all, at the very instance a member of their group were to find out, everybody would very soon sniff out and extract the gossip. And now, with Sully knowing about their secret, it was of no doubt that she would go around the camp shouting out the news like a boombox.

Robin nodded, but nevertheless decided to share her opinion on the matter, "But Chrom, our duty is to them and not to ourselves. Whatever would they say about us; about you?" With misty eyes, she faced the now seated Chrom beside her and held his hands, "What if they deem you not worthy of being their ruler?"

Robin was anxious, but Chrom on the other hand had thought about the matter for countless of nights already and has come to a solid conclusion.

"Then so be it." The prince announced to her while wielding his iron determination, "I would be more than willing to step down from my position if it would be what it would take to be with you."

Robin was not convinced.

She pursed her lips and tightened her grip on him, "But what of the halidom?"

"Lissa shall take command. I am confident that she can manage a whole kingdom with her abilities. She has this charm on people, you see." Chrom confidently replied; a smile creeping up his formerly serious face.

Robin, at the thought of Chrom's younger sister, giggled and accepted his answer. He was right; there was no need to worry about the kingdom if Lissa would be the one to run it. Ylisse would surely be festive each time of every day under the young princess. However, Robin winced at the thought of her rainbow elixir dishes circulating around town with Lissa hoping that it would help ease the townsfolk.

Robin was sure that Chrom would be the more practical and prosperous leader.

It was very wrong, but Robin could not help but let butterflies flutter in her stomach at the thought of Chrom sacrificing his throne for her. He was the purest kind of love Robin could ever dream of having, and she definitely would be doing nothing like releasing the Ylissean prince from her vicinity. And if he was willing to risk everything for her, then it was her cue to stand up for him; even if both insults and stones were hurled at her.

With a heartfelt sigh, Robin trailed her thin fingers along the outline of Chrom's white cape. She calmly shut her eyes before she let her body lose its balance and land on her lover's broad chest. She let her lips tug itself into a smile as she snuggled into the heat of his body. And then, as she breathed in and took in his scent, she discovered that his odor was not at all pleasant in the nose. He smelled of a reeking mixture of perspiration and durian; it made her a little nauseated.

But instead of frowning at the stink lingering in her smeller, she instead wrinkled her nose cutely and giggled in his warm embrace. She did not mind anything bad about him; not even his scent that appeared as if he had not taken a bath for a whole month.

Chrom, not seeming to be aware of his bad stench, curled his arms around Robin and nuzzled into the softness of her hair.

Robin smiled in satisfaction. With one, last romantic sigh, she reached her hand out for his cape and protectively wrapped it around both of their huddled bodies; making it fill the purpose of a blanket.

This time, Robin made a promise to herself: she would spend the rest of her life in Chrom's embrace; just like this. And no one, not even the whole world, would stop her from standing beside him and sheltering their love.

And that was the way she liked it.
