Chapter 2:

3rd person POV

After reading the books several times, Athena had started to dislike Edward. She disliked Bella even more for playing with Edward and Jacob's feelings. But compared to that, she nearly hated Jacob, though that would be too strong a word.

Edward was annoying and controlling. Not to forget stalker.

Bella held two hearts, when she could have early on said no to one part, when she had long ago decided for the one, she should have let go of the other instead of keeping both around, hurting them both. And then she was being pushed around…did not stand up for herself… She could go on.

Jacob was just annoying. Had he been meant for Bella in the first place, he would have imprinted on her, however he could not get that through his thick skull. Then the part on imprinting on a child. It was really messed up.

She rolled over in bed once more. It was daylight and her brain was thinking too much in the morning for her own like.

Her door sprung open and she nearly got a heart attack as Alice danced into the room. For a moment she had truly forgotten where she was. It was not a dream.

"I brought you some clothes!" she said happily and placed several bags on the floor.

"You did not have to spend money on me," Athena said quietly, feeling a bit ashamed of how she had showed up.

"Nonsense! I love shopping! I thought you knew that?"

"I do. But I-"

"But nothing. It did not even make a dent in my account. Come on, go shower and get dressed!"

With a sigh, Athena arose naked, not bothered by the pixie's eyes that widened. So she had not expected that, huh? Well, she could care less.

"You know, you are not being very embarrassed like normal humans," Alice said. Curiosity evident in her voice.

"I just appreciate my body. No matter form. No matter how I look, I am happy with myself. It is the healthiest," Athena replied with a smile. "I do not brag about my body though, but neither do I complain about it."

"I see." Alice was grinning. Such an intriguing human indeed!

Athena took the bag Alice was holding out and closed the bathroom behind her. After taking a quick shower, she brushed through her long wavy hair. It was reaching her hipbones now.

Her eyes were better than the average human. Had always been. In darkness she could nearly see clearly. She had a bit of a better hearing as well, but not as much. Her sight was what made most influence. But in her childhood, the doctors meant it was because of her eyes. Amethyst in color. They were not ordinary. She was not ordinary.

Getting dressed into jeans and no doubt a designer top she made her way down to where she remembered the kitchen would be. The image clear in her head.

Esme stood and served her a plate with pancakes at once as she sat down.

"Thank you," Athena breathed, not expecting all this kindness. They barely knew her and she was from another universe!

"It was my pleasure," Esme said happily.

Carlisle hurried inside and kissed Esme goodbye, then he told Athena he would be back later which she only nodded to in response.

Soon Alice was dragging Jasper after her and past the kitchen, no doubt off to school. Followed by Emmett and Rosalie. What shocked Athena though was that Rosalie smiled her way.

Then came Edward. He was dressed and looked uncertain as he made his way past. His eyes briefly meeting hers, giving a crooked smile. She rolled her eyes and turned to her food. Then suddenly remembering, she threw herself around and ran after them.

"Wait!" she called, mouth stuffed with food.

Edward turned and looked at her with an eyebrow raised. "Yes?"

"Uhm…If Bella asks you sometime near in the future if you wear contacts, say yes. It will save you from some trouble. Oh, and don't make it too obvious that you're a vampire," Athena said and rolled her eyes.

"Thank you?"

"Seriously, you're not so good at keeping it secret as you might want to believe," Athena stated.

"Aha, well I think I have heard your warning. May I leave now?" Edward asked, his eyes shining with irritation.

"I'm not stopping you," Athena mumbled and retreated, going back to her breakfast.

Esme noticed the worry upon Athena's features and sat down in front of her. "Everything alright?" she asked softly.

"Not really…" A heavy sigh followed.

"May I ask what is bothering you?"

Esme's concern was strangely enough comforting and Athena found herself wanting to open up to the vampire woman in front of her. "Sure, I mean… I never expected to be taken from my home and dumped into another universe. Living with vampires. Feeling at home. It bothers me. Not to offend anyone of course! But my reality changed and now I live amongst mythical beings, and honestly I prefer mermaids and fairies. I always wished to be a fairy with wings." The last part added silently and with a smile.

"Well, as far as I know mermaids and fairies do not exist in this world, but we might be fooled and they do. However, I can understand that this is difficult for you, the same it is after changing into a vampire. Once human then suddenly another creature. You have to learn to fit in all over again. Yet, you will never truly fit in. I hope that at least I can be one to make you feel like home and let me care for you. Especially since we have no way of getting you back," Esme said, her voice still soft and her eyes filled with venom because of her emotions.

Tears fell down Athena's cheeks and she felt embarrassed over herself. Despite that, she did hug Esme before retreating to her room.

Once she would have wished for immortality and being a vampire, sure. But now she felt like it did not matter. Honestly, what she had said had been true. She would have preferred fairy. Just in her own size and with large butterfly wings. Being able to fly wherever she wanted to.

"That would be something, wouldn't it?" she whispered as she watched herself in the mirror inside the bathroom. What would she do until the others returned?

The call went through the house. Curious, Athena made her way to the first floor it would seem. Esme stood in the living room, phone to her ear.

"Yes, she's here," she said as she turned and handed her the phone. "It is Carlisle," she stated.

"Oh, ok." Athena shrugged and took the phone. "Hello?"

"Athena, do you mind if I ask you some questions? It concerns your blood," Carlisle started.

"Fire away," Athena replied.

"Are you aware that you're infertile?" he asked, completely in doctor mode.

Athena froze for a second. "Y-yes. I was born without ovaries."

"And your period?" he wondered.

"Well I never got it because of that. Since my body did not have a way to get pregnant anyway." Or something like that, they never did know for sure.

"I see… Athena? Were you aware that you have frozen venom in your blood?"

Athena stared. What was she supposed to answer to that?

"Athena?"

Esme stood in front of Athena and shook her gently. "Athena dear, are you alright?" she asked as she blinked in confusion.

"Er, yes I am fine. And no, I was not aware of that fact," Athena replied.

"I will speak more to you later, a patient is calling."

"Oh, ok. Thanks…" The phone nearly dropped from her hand.

Poor thing, Esme thought as she led her into the living room so she could relax on the couch there. "Here, the TV is all yours. Just call me if you need something, I'll be in the garden," Esme said softly and moved Athena's hair out of her face. She was still staring at nothing, so Esme waved a hand in front of her.

"Huh, what? Oh, sure. Of course. I'll be fine," Athena tried to reassure, however Esme did not seem convinced.

Fine my ass, she told herself as she started flipping through the channels. Who has venom in their blood and is still human? Oh, guess. I do! A heavy sigh. What in the world could she watch? It was like going back into time even if the Cullens were rich and probably had the newest technology.

Why did my life end up like this? Is my fate written so short? If so I might think of changing after all. Like that would work…As if it would happen at all.

Another sigh followed by a large yawn.

I might as well take a nap first.

Edward could not stop thinking of the strange human in his home especially after biology. Athena had been right. Bella did indeed ask him about his eyes. He had tried to be polite, but at the same time trying to not draw too much attention to himself. However, he could see it in Bella's eyes that she was already lured in. He was now certain that he had to keep his distance and if anything, get Athena to attend. Her presence would distract him from this human whose blood tempted him more than anything.

Edward, Carlisle is going to call you in a bit. It's about Athena. Alice's thought reached him and he excused himself from Spanish. Gaining a look from Emmett.

Almost at once when he had reached the outside and his car the call came.

"Carlisle," Edward greeted.

"Alice," Carlisle muttered, obviously realizing that the pixie had warned him beforehand. "I have some unsettling news. While in my break I went to take another look at Athena's blood. It started to change. I am not sure what this means-"

"Will she turn into a vampire?" Edward whispered into the phone.

"I'm not certain, Edward. I want you to take a new sample from her when home and check it. If she is slowly changing, it means we will have a newborn at our hands. Or the outcome might be different. Since Alice is blind we cannot really tell."

Edward rubbed his forehead, the bell had rung and the students rushed out of the building. One of them Bella Swan. She looked his way and he broke the eye contact before she could decide to come over. He was not in mood to talk with her again.

"I'll do it."

"Good. I'll be back later this evening."

"Ok."

He hung up and watched as his siblings made their way over, ever so gracefully and slowly. He unlocked his Volvo and got inside. It was time to go home and he could barely wait.

"Why did you ditch me, man?" Emmett complained as he got into the car.

"Carlisle called," Alice answered for him and Edward rolled his eyes before he started the car.

"What did he want?" Rosalie asked wary.

"Athena might be going through the change, but we are not certain," Edward said as they were on their way.

We have to move again? Rosalie thought bitterly. And it wasn't even because of Bella Swan. Who would have thought?

This is so exciting! I just wish I could see so I could get away from this headache, Alice complained.

"Are you sure?" Jasper asked

"There is no mistaking the venom in her blood," Edward stated.

"This is so cool!" Emmett whispered. A new family member from another dimension at that!

"How are we going to get her to school with us?" Alice wondered.

"We are not," Rosalie sneered and crossed her arms.

"It depends on how fast she's changing," Jasper voiced. "It was much easier to be around the humans today I might add."

The others silently agreed but remained quiet for the rest of the ride.

Pulling up to the house Edward could not ignore Esme's worried thoughts when it concerned Athena. She was sleeping on the couch but had been waking up every other hour just to either use the bathroom or get a snack. Before they returned she had moved the girl back to her room so she could get privacy, not sure of what was going on with the human in their home. Carlisle's theory was that the change was causing it.

I'm so glad they're back, Esme thought as they all entered the house.

"We're home!" Emmett hollered.

"It's good to have you back," Esme said softly. Bowl in hand filled with brown cake batter.

"What are you making?" Rosalie wondered and wrinkled her nose as she passed and was on her way to go to her and Emmett's room.

"Brownies. I hope she will like them," Esme said softly with one look up.

I wish I were human again, Emmett thought. All this food that looks tempting, but smells like shit and tastes like dirt. He sighed.

"I'm sure she'll love it," Alice said as she danced her way past, Jasper close to her as they disappeared as well.

Esme sighed. "How was school?" she then asked to Edward.

"She was right. Bella did ask me about my eyes. At lunch we also tried to not seem too suspicious since Bella was watching us," he responded with a frown.

Emmett gave Edward a long look before he went to the living room. Keeping one ear on Esme and Edward's conversation as he decided a channel.

"She knows what events are coming, however her presence has obviously changed the story of these books she was talking about." Esme was walking back to the kitchen with Edward following as she spoke. He nodded in agreement. Neither had they asked exactly what the books were about. Except that they knew it included their family.

Steps made their way down the stairs and a dressed Athena stepped into the kitchen with one eyebrow raised.

"Oh, hello," she said as she went to fill a glass with water.

"Are you ok?" Esme asked concerned.

"Sure I am, why?" Athena asked.

"You have been asleep for most of the day," Esme said, concern clear in her eyes and tone of voice.

"Maybe it's the new universe thing? Beats me. I feel fine, quite awake too."

"If it is not too much trouble would you let me take another blood sample of you?" Edward asked.

Athena shrugged. "Why not? Do your worst," she said and stretched out her right arm towards him.

For a moment he disappeared and then he was back with a syringe. She watched as he drew blood and three pairs of eyes widened as it was purple when it came into the tube.

"What the hell!" Athena exclaimed. Staring at the tube wide-eyed.

"I have never seen anything like this before," Edward muttered astonished.

"I better call Carlisle," Esme muttered and hurried out of the kitchen.

Athena took one more look at her purple blood and then she felt her world go black.

Tell me what you think!
