Chapter 7:

? POV

"This has gone too far! I did not get Hades to move her soul into that world so you could play with her and experiment! They are soulmates. The best match I've seen in eons, and here you go and tamper with her soul!"

The blonde Goddess was raging. The Goddess of Love was not happy with us. I had given the human – together with my wife – the ability to turn into a mermaid, so we could create others in that world. She was the answer. She was the key to get other creatures into that land. It would all start with her.

"We are all at fault," Demeter said beside me. "And soon her third heart will make its presence."

"Really? You are really going through with this? Do you know how much pain you are putting her through? How much complications? Persephone and Hades helped us to bring these two souls together when I saw the match, yet you are willing to further tamper with it. Oh, and nearly threatening Persephone as well to give her a little gift." Aphrodite was seething and I leaned back on my throne.

"It was necessary. We needed the gift of flowers that only Persephone could give," Demeter said, eyes ablaze.

"We have tampered with nature." Gaia's voice was ice cold as she made her presence known and I suppressed a shudder.

"We have no choice but to let this play out," I said calm. "Her mermaid part will soon fade and others will arise thanks to her."

"And you're sacrificing her!" Aphrodite screeched.

"Calm down, all of you!" my brother yelled. "What is done is done. There is nothing we can do, but watch.

Aphrodite huffed and crossed her arms over her chest. Blue eyes storming as her gaze wandered over the room. Briefly meeting mine but I knew well enough to look away.

"After she has connected with the sea her second heart will stop and the third start and her tail will disappear," I explained and arose.

"You are all sick!" Aphrodite hissed and disappeared in sparks of gold.

"The only reason she still is alive is because of Nyx. Had she not gifted her with vampirism she would not be alive right now," Gaia said and left as well.

"What do we do now?" Demeter asked and looked me straight in the eyes.

"We wait," I said and looked to my brother. He nodded in agreement and we all made our leave.

3rd person POV

Edward found himself in Athena's room as she slept. She was quiet and it barely looked like she was breathing. Her second heartbeat was low and slow. What it meant he could not tell. She looked lifeless and had it not been for her beating hearts he would not have been able to tell if she was alive or not. Her eyes were closed and her lips barely parted. Showing parts of her fangs. He did not lean too much over her. Knowing she would get mad. Still he also thought about what she had told him. Twilight. He did not like it and he was glad it was not his reality. He did not have feelings for Bella Swan. At least not in this reality. So who did he have feelings for? Athena? That would be absurd. Or would it? Could they even be together?

There was no certainty if she would stay or not. If she would suddenly disappear and return to her former home. What would happen to them all then? He did not want to think about it. He shook his head, reached out a hand, and stroked over her cheeks. Then with a sigh, he retreated and left her room.

It was not easy to learn of another reality. Nevertheless, certain events had come and gone. Alice had seen three vampires heading their way, but they were only passing through and it was not yet.

Do you think she will want to? Alice thought loudly as Edward went back to his room.

"What?" he asked, knowing they all could hear him.

"Swimming. This weekend. We'll take her to Seattle," Alice said aloud.

"Is that such a good idea?" Jasper wondered.

"I have a feeling it is," Alice replied with a smile.

"It will also give her the freedom to swim," Rosalie said from another part of the house.

Carlisle's home, Alice thought and Edward stopped listening as he turned on music.

In another reality, his family and many others would go through a lot of pain. He would marry a human and get a child. It was certainly not what he had pictured for himself. More like the forever loner. But Athena kept pulling him in. He could not explain it and he was certain it was not her siren-like abilities that were at fault this time around.

He sighed. It was still early and not even close to midnight. Athena was fast asleep and the pull was getting stronger. He knew that she was close to him, yet not close enough.

"Come on Edward, let's go hunting," Emmett's voice boomed through the house.

Alice and Rosalie looked up as their brother passed them and disappeared together with Emmett and Jasper. Freeing him from the bounds of home. The two sisters were flipping through magazines, throwing opinions now and then what they thought would fit Athena. At least Athena was up for suggestions and not too difficult.

Alice knew that she had gained another sister and slowly she was becoming clearer in her visions, but not yet completely there. She would gain another sister with a sense of fashion and girly interests when needed, but at the same time keep a part of herself present at all times to show that no one could boss her around.

Rose was closer to Athena. However, they had bonded more than she and Alice had. Soon she would get the chance as well, but the new family member needed to take her time and adjust to her new life. It would not be very easy with what was coming her way. Someone else were holding the threads of knowledge and power. Only they held the answers and they were responsible.

Athena's POV

When I awoke, I had a feeling that I only had slept for some hours. Something was calling me. A quiet song that wanted me to follow its voice. I brushed the covers aside and I took a look out the windowed wall in my room. The moon was shining above the trees. No clouds covering the stars. I found what I was looking for and pushed one part of the window as if it was a door, and opened it. The air went through the room and caressed my body. I stood on the edge and I took a step forward. Landing crouched on the ground underneath. With my bare feet connected with the earth I could start walking. I followed the song that lured me.

Something held me back and I turned to look at whatever or whoever had stopped me from continuing following the song.

"Edward." I heard my voice cold and flat. I was not happy with him and somehow I could not understand why not.

"Athena. What are you doing?" he asked harshly.

"That is my secret," I heard myself mumble. Why could I not just say that I was following the song?

"You are clearly not thinking clearly." His eyes were like lightning as they stared into mine.

"You are not my parent, Edward. Let go of me," I hissed and started to feel less clouded.

"Not before you come with me."

"What the hell! Let go!" I yelled and a wave with water shot out from me with such force that it flung Edward far away from me.

I felt myself relax as the threat was gone and then realization hit me and I ran over to Edward, feeling worried. "Come on, get up," I muttered as I looked at his stone-cold form. He actually looked lifeless. "I did not think that vampires could get affected by water," I mumbled as I by instinct checked for a pulse. "What the hell am I doing?" I wondered and removed my two fingers against his throat.

He started to groan and moved a bit.

"Thank goodness," I whispered and stood back on my feet.

"What happened?" he wondered and met my eyes.

Mine widened. "Y-you don't remember?" I asked.

"I remember feeling hit and then pain," he grumbled and got up.

"I'm sorry! It was my fault." Somehow.

"How was it your fault?" he asked incredulously.

"The wave that hit you came from me. You were literally unconscious! I did not even know that could happen and I'm sure that you don't either." His eyes widened and I gave a nod in turn. "I don't know what came over me. My body moved itself and I was watching from the inside," I whispered and hugged myself. Oh dang it. I'm talking to him here naked. That's just great.

"Are you cold?" he asked, concerned.

"No, I'm not," I answered with a smile.

I started walking back with quick speed. Edward close on my heels. I could hear the song in the back of my head and I tried shaking it off, as it got stronger again.

When inside the house I went straight to the pool and let the transformation happen fast and I let myself soak in the salty water.

My skin felt wonderful as I exited the pool and walked back to my bedroom. The water dripping off of my body. No one met me and I found myself in the bathroom. Drying myself. I was ready to sleep again and I had pushed the song to the back of my head. It would not bother me more for tonight, or so I hoped.

As I laid under the covers, my head was tilted towards the night. The air filled the room and the curtain made small movements. It did not bother my skin or me. I listened to the sounds I could reach with my hearing. The nature going its natural way.

I heard my bedroom door open and I closed my eyes. The scent was familiar and I felt the pull within me lessen as Edward came closer.

"If you're here to stalk me-" I started.

"I'm not," he interrupted.

"Oh. Then why are you here?" I wondered. Suddenly feeling very tired.

"I wanted to wish you good night," he said lowly.

"Well, good night," I replied. Eyes still closed but I automatically raised an eyebrow.

"Sleep well."

I grunted and turned my body as the door closed behind him. The pull flared up again and it got stronger together with the song. Two pulls. Different directions. Would I even be able to resist at least one of them?

Tell me what you think!
