Chapter 13:

Bella's POV

Burning.

The burning was all I could think about after the three nomad vampires had brought me to the mountains. Where no humans would find me, or hear me if I screamed.

Scream I did.

Victoria had told me that screaming would not help on the pain, nevertheless it was hard not to. The burning coursed through my body. I begged them to kill me, but no one put me out of my misery. I knew they were close from the quiet talk now and then. Although most of the time they kept their distance as my high pitched screams rung through whatever cave we were in.

But I would get what I wanted the most and eventually I manage to calm myself down mentally and I was quiet. Just laying still as the fire went through me.

"It's almost over," I heard a female say. Victoria. It had to be her.

"We can only wait," James said as my heartbeat picked up its speed.

The pain was so intense that I let out another scream, but only one. I managed to regain control again.

"This is not safe," Laurent said.

"Think of her potential," Victoria said.

My heart was beating so fast and then it suddenly got quiet. Nothing remained except my breathing.

My eyes shot open and I saw three wary vampires. I grinned. I was in control. I was what I wanted and I would go after Edward. He would be mine.

"Let's kill some vampires," I said.

"Amazing," James whispered.

"Aren't you thirsty?" Victoria wondered and swallowed heavily.

"I can feel the burning, but I don't have the urge to kill for soothing yet," I responded.

"I have never heard of a newborn so in control," Laurent said thoughtfully.

"I am determined to get what I want," I answered and passed them. They stood left in the cave and I looked back, raising a brow. "Aren't you going to show me how to hunt?"

"Of course," Victoria said and smirked. Walking out past me.

Athena would have to watch her back from now on.

3rd person POV

The Chief of police was looking for his daughter who had gone missing. Alice had revealed to her siblings that Bella was under the change to become a vampire, but she could not say where she was. The vampires with her were good to hide. So Bella would become a vampire and she would soon enter their lives.

The whole town was looking, even Emmett and Jasper helped even if it was just for show. They both knew it would be hopeless, even if they caught up on her scent.

Four days. Four days had gone and more people had lost faith. Meaning less were looking. Much to Charlie Swan's dismay. He would not give up on finding his daughter. However, since finding Bella's blood, they all knew that finding her alive would not be likely anymore. A wild animal most likely had taken her.

Athena sat in the garden by the fire pit. Slowly focusing on the wood in front of her – hands outstretched in front of her – her legs folded – she imagined the wood burning, ever so slightly. Her eyes opened as she heard a quiet spark.

Jasper stood behind her. Following her every move. He kept control over the situation as he was tuned in on her emotions. Alice stood beside him. Not saying a word as she took in the scene. Athena was truly magnificent as she worked. The little fire turned larger. Her emotions were still in control. She was improving already.

Athena imagined the fire to turn into a bonfire, warming and cozy. Her eyes opened and she watched the fire in front of her. She was still in control! She smiled and watched as the fire danced to do her bidding. Slowly she felt it was time to make it die out. She imagined it die out at a fast rate. A breeze passed them and as if blowing out a candle the fire was gone, only the smoke left.

Athena's eyes squinted as she saw the smoke form. She saw four human-like creatures and then seven. It showed one lone woman then with long hair, charging with her hands on the side. Then threw them out in front of her. Two were gone and two were left.

The smoke disappeared completely and Athena blinked. "What? No! Show me the rest!" she yelled and started to panic. It had been showing her something.

The clearing, she thought. The day of the baseball game. How far from that are we? It could be any day. Even today.

"We should practice in a bigger area," Alice muttered.

Jasper kept his eyes on Athena as he helped her settle down. "It's ok," he said as she turned and met his eyes. "What did you see?" he then wondered as she stood up on her bare feet.

Her dress touched the ground and she took one more look back where the fire had been. Then she told him exactly what she had seen and what she thought.

It did not take long before everyone stood on what the Cullens used as a playground in many ways. The Cullens stood by as Athena stood in the middle. Her arms out and up as the rain fell. Her white dress getting drenched with her hair and the rest of her for that sake. Her head was tilted backwards. Then all of a sudden, the rain stopped. Athena's lips barely moved. The sky remained gray and then the thunder rolled through the sky.

"Is that her doing?" Esme wondered.

"It's her," Jasper answered, proud. She had it under control.

"Remarkable," Carlisle whispered.

"Good going sis!" Emmett yelled.

"Shh, don't break her concentration," Rosalie muttered.

The lightning struck around the town and the clearing remained clear for any of the bolts. The thunder boomed and rolled over them, but that was all. Her arms lowered and her eyes opened. She turned towards her family and they all smiled.

"It's ready," she said and held up her dress so she could walk over to Esme. When she reached her she followed her and when Esme stood ready, she sat down by her. "This is going to be interesting."

"Thank you for helping with the weather," Esme said and smiled softly.

"I'm just glad I managed," Athena answered and her eyes were sparkling.

"Ready?!" Esme yelled. Several nods. The game started.

It was something else watching the game in real and being able to see it with her own eyes as the Cullens played. Eventually they came to a break where the youngest were arguing and Esme and Carlisle stood on the side with Athena, watching. Who had cheated and who had not?

Athena rolled her eyes and she took the opportunity to make the rain start up again. The pour distracted them all and all eyes were on her.

"Thank you for stopping that silly argument," Athena said with a roll of her eyes.

"Wait!" Alice suddenly yelled before Athena could continue.

She felt the movement coming from behind and she turned as she saw straight into a pair of red eyes. Anger filled her when she recognized whom they belonged to.

"Finally," Bella hissed.

"You're really trying to take me on?" Athena asked and raised an eyebrow. Not even moving one step.

The Cullen family flanked her and Edward was the closest.

Without warning Bella turned and ran the opposite way.

"What the hell?" Came from Emmett.

"Language," Esme muttered.

Bella emerged from the trees again followed by three vampires. All red-eyed.

The Cullens started to hiss and growl. Edward the loudest as he stepped in front of Athena and shielded her body to protect her.

Athena took a step forward and motioned for her family to stay put. It's ok, Edward, she thought.

As the smoke showed me, she then thought as she stood in the middle. Her hands were on the side as she summoned a huge ball of fire. Fire surrounded her fists and it did not burn her. It caressed her skin as if they were old friends.

She threw the large fireball towards the four.

Laurent got caught up in the flames and screamed for help. Victoria managed to escape and took hold of Bella as well. James lit on fire as well and Victoria screamed out for him.

Athena summoned the thunder over them and the lightning started to strike around them. One bolt hitting James so he laid out on the ground, burning up.

Athena knew already that Victoria would be the most dangerous vampire when it concerned the books. But wherever she stroke, she managed to escape.

The ground started to shake and Emmett and Jasper charged for the redhead as well.

"No!" Athena yelled and pushed out fire and lighting from herself, making it fall at random around Victoria so she could not know. Then finally, a bolt shocked her so bad that she laid on the ground just long enough for Jasper and Emmett to rip her head off and then she sent flames her way and the body burned.

Bella had approached the rest. Looking straight into the eyes of Edward. His forehead was furrowed. He could still not read her thoughts and he did not like it. However, Jasper could still feel her emotions and get some control while Alice could see her.

When the fires only burned grass and plants, Athena created water and put the fires out. No more signs of the three vampires. Proud of herself she was careless and a hit to her stomach sent her flying in between the trees. Her body hit one but, due to her nature and her strength, she took that tree with her as she kept going and meeting another tree she came to a stop and she fell to the ground with a loud thud. The air was no longer in her lungs and she struggled to breathe from that impact. Then within seconds Bella stood in front of her. She had no time to react but trying to summon her powers. Nothing happened.

No, not at this time. It had to leave me at such bad times?

Her heartbeat slowed and she noticed Bella's eyes narrow.

"You cannot die already," she hissed and flung her away again.

"I'm not as fragile as you think," Athena growled and stood up on her legs, facing Bella, even though her ribs hurt and the breathing sound came out almost like squeaks.

The Cullens came running to her aid but soon they met with a wall and the panic within them arose, as Bella was obviously the cause.

"Do you like my shield?" she asked and chuckled. "It's mental. Right now I'm using your brains to believe that you are facing a wall, but in reality you are just under my shield," she explained.

"Why?" Athena asked and coughed. The strength slowly filling her as her heart slowed yet even more.

"Why you ask. I shall tell you," she mused in response. Her expression changed fast. "You took him! He's mine! You took what was rightfully mine! Now I shall take it back!"

With Bella's little speech, Athena's heart had stilled. She was able to breathe again and she felt stronger than ever. Though blood was still in her veins it had to be a sort of clue. Then it started. Four heartbeats started within her. Giving her strength to go on and fight. To fight for her family.

Angrily she charged at Bella and moved so fast that Bella had no time to react and lost focus on her shield. Making the others able to pass the invisible wall.

Esme and Carlisle stood back as the kids helped Athena pull Bella apart, who in turn was very angry that she lost. They burned the body and left some pieces of cloth for the Chief to find. At least it was more believable.

Athena hurried into Edward's arms and they stood hugging each other for a long time. Refusing to let go. It was over and they could live peacefully again now.

Golden sparkles started to appear beside them and the rest of the family took one step back. All unsure of what was happening.

A woman clothed in a very light blue robe, blonde long hair and blue eyes – and not to forget the most beautiful woman any of them had ever seen – stood beside Edward and Athena. Looking straight at Athena.

"Athena," she spoke. Her voice like music to all of their ears.

Athena and Edward froze and carefully pulled apart. Looking at the woman.

"Aphrodite," Athena breathed.

"You can call me mom," the Goddess answered.

Tell me what you think!
