Chapter 5

**Diamond's POV**

I walked into the training room and saw everyone upstairs. They were all laughing and drinking probably alcohol.

"Hello?" I said getting no response I don't even think they knew I walked in.

I looked around me I needed something to make them notice me. I looked around trying to find anything that could get their attention. I saw a rack that had different size spears arraigned on it. I ran over to it and tried to flip it but it was too heavy. I climbed up on top of it and put my back against the wall. I used my legs to push it over knocking everything on it to the ground. There was a bunch of bangs that could have heard from anywhere. I lowered myself to the ground and looked up and saw that they were all paying attention to me.

"Diamond Hawthorne District 12," I said.

"Please continue Mrs. Hawthorne," Seneca Crane said as I nodded.

I went over to the sword station I knew I needed to hold their attention. I took the sword Cato has been training me with and went over to the dummy. I started running through doing everything that Cato had showed me. I heard a few gasps probably amazed that I'm from 12. I needed a way to go out; I knew I sucked with a bow that's obvious. I went over and grabbed a knife, I turned and threw it at a target and I hit a bull's-eye I amazed myself.

"Thank you Diamond," Seneca said as I bowed and left.

"How'd it go?" Gale stood and asked.

"Ok, I had to get their attention some of them are really drunk," I admitted.

"Thanks go on upstairs I'll be up soon," he said kissing me.

We pulled apart and I went to the elevator. The doors opened and there was Cato leaning against the back wall with his arms crossed over his chest.

"What are you doing down here?" I asked walking in the elevator.

Cato leaned over pushing a button and the doors closed. I didn't know what he did since we weren't moving.

"How'd you do?" he asked ignoring my question.

"Why should I answer your question if you didn't answer mine?" I asked challenging him.

"And that's why I like you. You're from District 12, but everything about you screams 2. You're not afraid of me, you can handle weapons easily and you just have that spark to you," he said and each time he spoke he kept get closer to me.

"Well I'm from District 12, so you're going to have to get over it."

"Diamond I don't think you understand, I want you. In District 2 we only get married or have children with someone who is worthy of us. There's no one at home I deem worthy and yet here you stand. I will have you if I have to kill Gale in the end," he said pushing his lips to mine.

I didn't kiss back, I tried pushing him away he just pinned me even more to the wall. I kept trying to fight him, but I somehow think it just turned him on more. He pulled away and smirked down at me. I don't know what possessed me for a split second, but I punched him. He took a step away from and rubbed his cheek, before he started chuckling.

"I love a fight, this will be fun," he laughed leaning over pushing a button.

I felt the elevator start moving and then stop. He walked past me to his floor is what I'm going to guess.

"Remember you and your husband need to have an answer tomorrow," he said as the doors closed.

After dinner we were all sitting around the TV waiting for the scores. Gale had his arm around me and I was laying my head on his shoulder. I didn't tell him about earlier I don't want bad things to happen before they have to. Gale hasn't said anything to me about joining them so I think we're not going to.

"Are you ok you've been in deep thought all evening?" Gale asked.

"Yeah I'm fine I promise." I said.

I could tell he didn't like the answer, but Caesar came on TV chipper as always. The started off the scores with District 1 as always. Marvel had a 9 and Glimmer had a 7. I knew she was nothing, but a pretty face. Next was Cato and Clove both with scores of 10. No one seemed to jump out at me after that until 11 he also had a 10 the little girl had a 7.

"And now for District 12 Gale Hawthorne with an 11," Caesar said making my eyes widen.

Everyone around was happy and jumping around amazed with Gale's 11. I just snuggled into his side, he earned it that's for sure, but he also put a huge target on his back.

"And lastly from District 12 Diamond Hawthorne with a score of 10," Caesar said making my eyes widen.

Everyone was even happier around me. I turned and looked at Gale as he leaned down and kissed me. I kissed him back resting my hand on his chest.

"I love you so much," he muttered pulling away from me.

"I love you too."

"So swords are your thing like I said," Haymitch smirked as Cinna was doing some final touches to my dress.

"Apparently, you know something and you're not telling me," I said.

"Everyone in District 12 knows they just don't want to break your heart. Now you have to be ready for this the past isn't important right now," he said as I nodded and cleared my mind.

My dress was beautiful I looked like it was black, but if the right light hit it, it sparkled white. The top was strapless and from my waist it flowed to the floor. My hair was pinned up with a few elegant curls that were lose. My eyes popped liked daisies with my makeup. Cinna smiled and nodded at me as Haymitch took me out to the other tributes. Gale was by my side wearing a suit that had flames stitched in it.

"Mrs. Hawthorne you looking amazing, but then again you always do," he smiled leaning down to kiss my lips.

I looked around and saw Cato's eyes on me. He licked his lips and winked at me. They called for everyone to fall in line. I was in front of Gale and he had his arms wrapped around me. We watched as all of the other had there interviews. It wasn't long until I was looking at the stage. The guy from 11 walked off and I was being called out. I walked out and saw all of the people and took a deep breath. Caesar took my hand and kissed it before allowing me to sit down.

"Diamond I must say you are the first married tribute I've ever talked to," Caesar said as my cheeks burned, I could hear all of the people cheering though.

"Well I guess you'll talk to the second after me," I said making everyone chuckle.

Caesar continued on about me and Gale being married. I was joking with Caesar ass he was talking with me.

"Diamond I must say your parents must be proud of such a brave young woman," my smile instantly fell off of my face.

"My parents abandoned me when I was a child," I said.

"Then they have no idea what they missed out on, good luck tomorrow," he said shouting my name once more.

I walked back stage as Haymitch, Effie and Cinna talked about how great I did. I was in a daze as I watched Gale. My mind kept spinning around everything that was going on. I felt like I was losing my mind.

"Dia," I heard Gale say bringing me out of my thoughts.

"Are you ok?" he asked me I shook my head into his chest.

"I don't know what to think."
