CHAPTER THREE
Dale stands up and starts pouring more wine into some of the others glasses. "You know in Italy, children would have some wine with dinner and in France." Dale said as he fills up Lori's glass. "And when Carl's in Italy or France, he can have some then." Lori said with her hand covering Carl's cup while looking from Dale and over to Rick. "What's it going to hurt, come on?" Rick said to her giving her a big smile.
After she nods laughing lightly, Dale grabs Carl's cup and pours a little wine in it, then hands it back to him. All of them get quite waiting to see his reaction. "Eww!" Carl said his face scrunching up, shaking his head and they all started laughing. "Why don't you stick to soda pop, there bud." Shane said crossing his hands, looking away, he doesn't look as happy as the rest of them.
"Not you Glenn." Daryl said pouring more SoCo into Shane's glass. "What?" Glenn asks looking up drunkenly from where he sat on the countertop. "Keep drinking little man. I want to see how red your face can get." Daryl jokes pouring himself some more as well.
Rick stands up tapping his glass. "It seems we haven't thanked our host properly." He said holding his glass up to Jenner, everyone gets a little quiet and looks over to the man.
"Oh he is more than our host." T-dog said and they all feel the same, he saved them, let them in even though he didn't have to. They all applaud, saying their thanks. "Booya!" Daryl yells out suddenly as well as most of the group, followed with the sound of laughing.
"So when are you gonna tell us what happened here, doc?" Shane said ruining the blissful moment that they all were having. "All the⦠the other doctors that were supposed to be figuring out what happened, where are they?" Shane said almost too calmly and even though they do want to know what happened it didn't need to be at that moment when they all are finally having some peace.
"We're celebrating, Shane." Rick tells him, upset that he would ask that right now when his wife and son and the rest of the group are happy and content. "Don't need to do this now."
"Whoa wait a second. This is why we are here, right? This was your move, supposed to find all the answers. Instead we found him. Found one man. Why?" Shane asks and everyone grows even more quite then they were and everyone's eyes slowly move over to Jenner.
"Well, when things got bad, a lot of people just left, went off to be with their families. And when things got worse, when the military cordon got overrun, the rest bolted." Jenner tells them in a soft even tone like he has been saying what the weather is like, it gave them all a bit of the chills.
"Every last one?" Shane said sarcastically. "No, many couldn't face walking out the door. They... opted out. There was a rash of suicides. That was a bad time." Jenner tells them and most of them know this already they just don't want to admit it to themselves.
"You didn't leave, why?" Andrea asks him and Jenner looks to her his face still absent like. "I just kept working, hoping to do some good." He said and everyone just sits there not knowing what to say or do.
"Man, you are such a buzz kill." Glenn tells Shane as he rolls his eyes, all of them thinking the same thing. After that none of them were in the mood any more.

Eva hums a lullaby while she rocks side to side as she holds the bottle up for baby boy, who is awake and is drinking nicely. She was scared when he didn't want to drink anything when they got back from the run, but he seems he can't get enough now.
"Well this one is fed and bathed and ready for bed." Jenna said smiling as she carries in the boy who is laying his head on Jenna shoulder. He still won't talk, not saying anything at all. They can only ask him yes and no questions and Eva hopes he will talk soon it's hard just calling them boy and baby boy.
Jenna lays him down on the bed and hands him the stuffed tiger he hasn't let go of since Eva gave it to him when he woke up. Jenna kisses his forehead before moving back to the door but stops and turns remembering she needed to tell Eva something but stops when Eva starts humming again, it wasn't that important anyway.
Eva keeps humming as she takes the bottle away from the now sleeping baby and sets it down on her desk, she then walks back to the bed. She lays the baby down in the middle of the portable crib before sitting down at the boys' feet.
She covers him up and starts lightly playing with his hair while she start singing to them the lullaby that her mother sang to her and her grandmother before her.

Jenna watches from the door way as Eva sings, she smiles when they boy falls fast to sleep before lightly closing the door to give her some space.
Jenna is so thankful to Eva, who took them into her home when she didn't have too. She shakes her head pushing the thoughts of Atlanta away as she makes her way to the kitchen to help Mel with the dishes.
After taking a short shower, Jenna says goodnight to Abigail and Cody before going and checking on Mel and Kailee in their room. She lifts Mel's leg from hanging off the side off the bed before making her way up stairs to take over watch from Charlie.

Eva is woken up to someone franticly shaking her so she jumps up and the look of terror greets from Jenna's face. "Corpses, a lot of them." Jenna tells her before she can even ask what is wrong.
Eva throws the blanket off of her before running with Jenna to the other room and she grabs the binoculars and looks out the window. Her hands shake looking back at Jenna.
"We can't stay here, they will tear this house apart. Go wake everyone tell them to grab everything and wait in the living room." Eva tells her hurriedly before handing her the binoculars and they run out of the room splitting ways in the hall.
Eva quickly pulls her pants on over her boxer shorts and then her shoes not even worrying about socks. She clips on her gun belt and machete before going around the room collecting everything in a duffle bag shoving in her quivers and arrows, some diapers and the boys' stuffed tiger.
She picks up the baby and straps him into his car seat and she looks out the door when she hears someone running up the stairs. Jenna runs into the room and rushes to the bed picking up the boy waking him up which makes him start crying.
"We need to leave now!" Jenna tells her before shushing and rocking the boy to get him to calm down. Eva throws the duffle bag over her shoulder before grabbing her bow and the car seat.
She quickly goes down the steps Jenna following close behind. She quickly makes her way to the front window and she sees the cars in sight and no corpses, they are all coming towards the back of the house, this is good, gives them a chance.
"Ok, you all make it to the bus, I'll cover you." Eva says handing the car seat over to Kailee and handing Mel her duffle bag and hands Abigail her bow. "Keep as quiet as you can." She says as she pulls out her gun and takes the safety off and then she checks her pocket for extra mags.
Everyone gets in line behind her with Charlie bringing up the rear with his shot gun. She looks behind her and to their terrified faces before turning and lifting the board off of the door and unlocks it.
She opens the door stepping out slowing while sweeping the area and the area by the bus and truck. She motions for the others to follow her and they all start jogging lightly to the bus, she leans down checking underneath the bus just in case.
Charlie shuts the door quietly before running up ahead to open the bus door. Eva walks backwards after them while sweeping side to side looking on each sides of the house waiting for corpses to jump out. She looks back and sees Charlie and Cody helping Abigail into the bus.
She looks back and sees two corpses walking around the side of the house she steps backs behind the bus, its good they don't see them yet. "Ok." Charlie whispers before getting in the bus and shutting the door. Eva takes the long way around the bus so the corpses won't see her as she gets in the truck.
Charlie and Eva start the bus and truck up which gets the attention of the corpses' and more start to pour out of the sides off the house, realizing food is right there.
Charlie drives forward and starts down the dirt road to get to the street but Eva stays there revving the engine drawing the attention to her and the truck. When the bus gets further down the road Eva takes off leaving the corpses and her childhood home behind her.

"Rick you got any moves left?" Shane asks as he pants on the floor of the RV and Rick nods his head. "I got one." He said while he drives the RV pass a few walkers in the street. "Is it good?" Shane asks desperate for some good news, after almost dying when his jeep broke down and the CDC blowing up.
"It occurs to me that we have friends in this town. Glenn what do you think?" Rick asks looking back at Glenn before looking back to the road. "Ya!" Glenn laughs when he realizes what Rick is getting at.
"It will buy us some time. A night or two until we figure out what we're doing." Rick said and some of the weight lifts off of his shoulders a bit.
Dale looks over at Glenn when they don't explain what they are talking about. "The nursing home. Guillermo and his people." Glenn said with a huge smile on his face.
"The people that took you hostage?" Dale asks unsure if he heard him right. "We parted on good enough terms." Rick said as he turns down another street. "Good enough, don't bold me over with confidence." Dale said and Glenn just laughs.
"You weren't there you didn't see the way Rick handle things, they are our friends, they'll take us in." Glenn said excitedly and some of the fear of not knowing what to do goes away and relief begins to settle in a little.

Eva has been searching farms and houses even a motel for them to stay at. The events of last night making it harder and harder to concentrate. She drives down another long dirt road parking in front of a nice looking two story, farmhouse, she waits a minute before shutting off the truck.
She climbs out and grabs her bow before shutting the door. She walks around the whole house before walking up the front steps and checking the front windows and checking inside. Seeing nothing moving inside, she starts going around the house checking for a way in.
One of the side windows is unlocked so she lifts it open and then looks around inside before climbing in, she quietly walks to the front door and unlocks it so she can get out faster.
It doesn't take her long to sweep the whole house noticing all the dust over everything, so she knows no one has been here in quite a while. She shuts the widow and the door before walking around the property checking the barn and the shed before making her way back to her truck.
They will be able to stay here awhile, it's the best place she has found all day. It's uphill from the town which is close but not too close, no neighbors for miles, far from the road so no one can see them, it's perfect.
All the other farms and houses where she lived were filled with walkers milling around but for some reason this town, no corpses for miles it seems.
She smiles as she drives back to where she left the others, happy to bring them some good news after the night they had.
She checks the house one more time before letting them into the house. She shows everyone where they can sleep and they all pass out when their heads hit the pillows.
After putting the boys to bed she walks back down the steps and she and Charlie each take a side of the house and start watch. Eva watches as the sun sets down over the tall trees in the distance, some of the weight of not having a safe place to live lifts off of her shoulders.
