CHAPTER SIX
Daryl lays there on the floor of the overheated RV trying to get some sleep but it is difficult with the sounds of Andrea clinking away with gun parts and Carol grieving over Sophia. He sits up sighing after giving up on sleeping not able to handle Carol crying any more.
"I need my clip now." He says to Andrea and she hands him his clip and he loads it up in his gun. "I'm gonna walk the road, look for the girl." Daryl says telling Andrea before looking in the back of the RV at Carol who has stopped crying and she looks at him as she wipes tears off her cheek and he gives her a nod before turning and walking out the door.
"I'm coming too." Andrea says following close behind him and he gives her a nod before looking up at Dale that is on watch on the top of the RV. "I'm going for a walk. Shine some light in the forest. If she's out there, it'll give her something to look at." He tells him needing something to do if he can't get some sleep.
"Do you think that a good idea right now?" Dale asks him but before he can answer Andrea says Dales name sharply before walking past him and he looks at Dale before shaking his head lightly before catching up to her and they make their way in the woods.
"You really think we're going to find Sophia?" Andrea asks him after a few minutes of silence as they walked. Daryl glares and holds his flash light up to her face and he scoffs shaking his head.
"You got that look on your face, same as everybody else. What the hell's wrong with you people, we just started looking." Daryl said getting a bit angry with her, not understanding why everyone is giving up already.
"Well do you?" She asks him and he shakes his head. "It ain't the mountains of Tibet, its Georgia. She could be holed up in a farmhouse somewhere. People get lost and they survive. It happens all the time." He says flashing his light off to the side still not believing her and the others.
"She's only twelve." She says and for a moment he realizes why they are so scared it's not just that she lost but with walkers out there... he shakes his head throwing the thoughts away.
"Hell, I was younger than her and I got lost. Nine days in the woods, eating berries, wiping my ass with poison oak." Daryl said trying to get her mind off of it too but not really sure why he is telling her this story.
"They found you?" She asked in a way to get him to keep talking. "My old man was off on a binder with some waitress and Merle was doing another stint in juvie. Didn't even know I was gone. I made my way back though, went straight into the kitchen and made myself a sandwich. No worse for wear, but my ass itched something awful." He tells her and he hears her snort with laughter while trying to cover it up.
"I'm sorry, that's a terrible story." She says still laughing which makes him laugh a little with her. "Only difference is, Sophia as people looking for her. I call that an advantage." He tells her and she just nods her head to him and they continue on their way.

After Charlie wakes her up for her ten o'clock shift, she gets up and puts her shoes on and then her machete and gun belt on, before leaving the room. She walks to the spare room that they are using as a watch post and she grabs the binoculars off of the window sill and she starts her shift.
When one AM rolls around she sets the binoculars down before leaving the room and she leaves to go and wake up Cody for his watch.
After she goes and wakes up Cody, for watch, being mindful as not to wake Abigail. She starts to go towards the stairs to go back to bed but she hears something in the kitchen so she slowly walks to the kitchen her pocket knife in her hand.
When she rounds the corner she sees Kailee, quietly trying to wash the dirty dishes. "Hey why are you still up?" Eva asks as she puts the pocket knife back into her pocket. Kailee looks over at her and shrugs her shoulders.
"Had another bad dream, I couldn't fall back to sleep and I needed something to do, so..." She said before motioning to the dishes. "You wash, I'll dry." Eva says to Kailee who was putting a few more dirty dishes in the water. "Ok, sounds good." She says back as she starts cleaning a plate.
"When are we gonna have another shooting practice?" Kailee asks her and Eva looks back. "Uh, how about later this afternoon when your grandpa and I get back." She says and Kailee nods and smiles before going back to washing.
After they get done with the dishes, she says goodnight to Kailee who is now sitting on the living room couch with a book in her hand, before she goes upstairs to go bed.
She fixes the babies blanket before taking off her gun belt and shoes. She climbs into bed beside the boy, wrapping her arm over him and Sophia.
She lays there wide awake and she looks out the window up at the moon and stars not fining any comfort in them like she used too before all this happened. She shakes her head before moving her head to look towards the door, clenching her pocket knife once again before closing her eyes.

"Carl?" Shane asks desperately as Rick and the others walk closer to him and he hands the bags off to Hershel and the boy. "There's still a chance." Rick tells him and he sighs in relief.
"Otis?" Hershel asks him and he chokes out no while shaking his head trying not to stare to long in anyone's eyes, afraid they will be able to see what he done in his eyes.
"We say nothing to Patricia. Not till after. I need her!" Hershel says trying not to cry as he makes his way back to the house to start Carl's surgery.
Shane kept shifting his eyes and Rick pulls him close and he tries not breaking down and telling but when his eyes meets Lori's, the reason why he did what he did he pulls away from Rick and tries thinking of a believable lie.
"They kept blocking us at every turn. We had nothing left... we were down to ten rounds. He said... he said he'd cover me and that I should keep going. So that's what I did... I just... I kept going. I looked back and he... I tried." Shane shuddered out trying to push the memories of what really happened in the back of his mind trying to give the man and his family some pride, that he died fighting doing something right.
"He wanted to make it right." Rick tells him completely believing his every word and he hugs Rick tighter as he looks from the girls crying face and over to Lori who stares back at him with thanks and love in her eyes.

"I don't feel comfortable driving to far from the farm, we'll look for a town map tomorrow in town." Eva says to Charlie and he nods his head turning the truck around to go back to the farm.
They searched three different highways near where she found Sophia but highways go on for miles with many branching off in different direction, it'll be harder than she thought.
"I didn't find anything today but the highways we checked didn't have any traffic jams so we will be able to move on to look at others ok." Eva says as she kneels before Sophia and she nods her head and Eva sees her bottom lip start to quiver so she pulls the girl into her arm and holds her tight, letting her cry.
Wanting to get the girls mind off everything she and Charlie takes the girls' and the boy out to the barn for some shooting practice.
"Ok keep both eyes open and look down the sight. Ok now pull the trigger." Eva says and Sophia yelps in surprise as the paintball gun gives a small jerk. "Good job you hit the target, now try it again." Eva said smiling as she stands behind her.
Sophia shoots once more, this time not yelping and when she shoots the target again, this time closer to the head of the person shaped target.
She turns and looks up at Eva with a big smile on her. "Great job Sophia. Now I want you guys shoot twenty rounds, each head shot you miss you owe me a push-up and sit up." Eva said to Kailee, Mel and Sophia as she moves over to the boy.
She won't let him move onto real guns for a long while but it doesn't hurt to start teaching him gun safety, with all the guns they have all over the house.
While she kneels behind the boy helping him hold the gun right and shooting the side of the barn she remembers that's how her grandpa taught her how shoot and she can't help but smile.
