CHAPTER SEVEN
Daryl rides on up ahead of the RV and Shane's new car after he shuts the gate that leads to the farm. After they come around the bend he sees Carol's car in front of the house.
He parks his bike and turns it off as Glenn and T-dog come walking down the steps towards them. He looks around at several new faces and the girl from the horse before looking to Rick and Lori. They all wait as Rick looks at them and Dale asks how Carl is.
"He'll pull through. Thanks to Hershel and his people..." Lori tells them with a tried small on her face and Daryl sighs in some relief for the boy. "And Shane." Rick says cutting Lori off and Daryl looks over at Shane in huge coveralls and a new haircut, well no hair.
"We'd lost Carl if not for him." Rick tells them and he gives Dale a hug while Carol goes over and hugs Lori. "How'd it happen?" Dale asks Rick and he shakes his head.
"Hunting accident. That's all... just a stupid accident." Rick tells them and Daryl shakes his head. Rick then tells them about Otis how the man died getting the supplies they needed to save Carl.
So after gathering more rocks from around the farm Daryl and Glenn help the boy, Jimmy pile them up by a group of trees for a memorial to Otis.
As Shane tells them all what happened last night, the man's wife needing to know his death had some meaning. Daryl had a hard time believing everything but losing a man, getting chased by walkers and Carl's fate in his hands and telling the grieving family he can see why Shane might not be saying the whole truth.

"Man I can't believe how empty this town is." Eva says to Charlie as she loads more tools and supplies into the bed of her truck next to the bags of meds they just got from the pharmacy. "Let's not get to comfortable and let our guard down. I'm sure they're around here somewhere." Charlie said heaving a heavy box into the back.
Eva nods her head before looking around the buildings around them, noticing a bar named Hatlands, next door, man she could use a drink. "Anything else useful in there?" She asks looking back to Shrugg's hardware store. "Some but we need room for all the paint and other stuff." Charlie tells her and she closes the bed cover before she motions over to the bar.
He gives her a smile before following after her, they sweep the place before grabbing several different kinds booze and they carry it back to the truck and she gets behind the wheel driving off to the arts and crafts store a block over.
"So dark greens, browns and black, as many as they have." She says after pulling her knife out of the corpses or walker, as Sophia calls them. They grab a shopping cart each and head to the paint, the hardware store only a few not enough to paint the huge bus.
After making her third trip she sees the crafting sections, it will give the kids something to do. As she packs up beads and wire and other stuff for bracelets and necklaces she sees large brightly colored cardboard papers down at the end of the aisle.
If they make posters and put them all over town and the surrounding streets and highways, Sophia's group might find them. She grabs all of them before grabbing packs of sharpies and markers before going back outside. After packing everything away they head over to a small vet clinic they passed on the way into town.
They grab all the stuff for stitches and the cast plaster so they can bind Jenna's arm better. It was hard setting her arm back in place, hearing her scream but now they can give her a proper cast so it will heal better, not perfect but better. They grab anything else of use before driving back to the others.

"I saw the look on your face back at the well. Never seen one killed up close before?" Glenn says as Maggie rides on up ahead of him but he can see her shoulders tensing up a little. "I guess it's a kind of a shock." He says trying not to winch but his butt really is starting to hurt from riding the horse.
"You know, being out on the road, we've seen a lot. Guess we just got kind of numb to it." He said more to himself than to her remembering the first time he say a walker getting killed in front of him. "Ya I guess so." Maggie said answering him and they climb off the horses and tie them up to some railing before walking up to the pharmacy.
Glenn can't believe how deserted the town is. "I'll go see what antibiotics are left." Maggie tells him after they walk inside the store. "What else is on the list?" She asks him and he pulls out the longer list, holding back the note from Lori.
"Why don't you get started?" He tells her as he looks around and he see the feminine hygiene section. "What about you?" She asks a little confused. "I'm gonna look around see what's worth grabbing. Just some general stuff." He said trying not to stumble over his words, he has never been a good liar. As she walks away towards the back he opens the note and reads it before going and looking through all the selves and searching the floor.
When he sees it he picks it up and when he sees the picture he realizes that Lori want a pregnancy test. He hears Maggie walking up behind him so he quickly shoves it in his bag when she asks him what he has got.
He quickly picks up the closet box not even looking at it as he stands and faces her. "Nothing, just general stuff, like I said." He tells her before looking down at the box and to his embarrassment he picked up condoms.
"Condoms?" She says laughing lightly making it worst. "You got a girlfriend I don't know about?" She asks him and he shakes his head. "Me, no, no." He said trying to get over that he grabbed condoms.
"Then you're a pretty confident Guy." She says looking him in the eye, it takes him a moment to understand her meaning. "No, no, no I... I... I wasn't... I would never." He stuttered trying not to make the situation worst.
"Why something wrong with me?" She asks him and he shakes his head. "No, I... I... I would never have sex... uh... I'm... I'm lost." He said knowing he is just making it a whole lot worst.
"I'll have sex with you." She says suddenly and his mind just goes blank. "Really? Why?" He asked not fully sure what is going on. "You're really asking questions?" She asks him with a small simile on her face.
"I can't help wondering." He says and she looks at him. "It's not like our options are vast these days." She says and he has to admit it stung a bit but when she takes off her hat and his and steps closer to him before lightly kissing him it didn't matter anymore.
"And you're not the only one that's lonely." She says quietly before lifting off her shirt and everything else didn't matter, walkers, Sophia, Lori's pregnancy test.
None of it matter when her bra dropped to the floor.

Daryl steps up into the RV and looks around seeing that everything is clean and put away as he makes his way back to where Carol is sitting on one of the beds. "I cleaned up wanted it to be nice for her." She tells him as she stitches up a whole in a blanket.
"For a second I thought I was in the wrong place." He says before setting down the flower and beer bottle on top of a small table. "A flower?" She asks him confused and he pulls out the hay from his mouth before motioning to the flower. "It's a Cherokee rose." He tells her before telling her the story of the Indian mothers and the flowers.
"I'm not, fool enough to think there's any flowers blooming for my brother. But I believe this one, bloomed for your little girl." He says to her and she laughs lightly tears welling in her eyes so he turns and walks back to the door to give her some space.
"She's gonna really like it in here?" He says looking back at her one more time and she smiles at him before looking away and he opens the door and walks back outside to get started on gutting the squirrels he caught while out looking for Sophia.

Later that night after she put the kids to bed, Eva walks down the stairs and walks to the kitchen, grabbing a water bottle on her way to the kitchen table. She sits down at the table and stares at the bright florescent colored poster boards and the many markers.
She grabs the top poster and she starts making posters for Sophia's group. She does this for several hours making more than twenty of them but knowing that it will help find that girls mama, she doesn't mind staying up.
She looks at the one she just finished and nods her head looking at all of them she done, it's a good start. She looks down and reads the poster one more time.
SOPHIA PELETIER
Hello Carol, my name is Eva and I found Sophia and she is alive and well. But she misses her mom and I'd really like to get her back to you but I have a group to protect and it might not be you who is reading this. But if you are, there is going to be a few rules and it will take some time to get her back to you.
Rule one. I will NOT tell you were we are.
Rule two. Do NOT tell me where you are, we don't know who will read this or the notes to follow.
If you are reading this that means you are near or in the town of Summerland which is close to where I found her in the woods. I'm going to ask three questions and YOU WILL ANSWER THEM and if they are right I'll give you further instruction.
1. What is Sophia's middle name?
2. What is Sophia's birth day?
3. Sophia lost something that she was holding when she got lost in the woods, what was it?
You will answer these questions and write the answers real big so I can see them from further away. You will place the answers on the spots shown on the map on the back of this note. I hope you find this Carol, I really do, you just have to wait a little while longer. ~Eva
