CHAPTER FOURTEEN
Eva leaves the farm early the next morning wanting... needing to see if they replied and when she gets to the sign she hops out and a big smile graces her face as she reads the top right corner. She quickly tapes a drawing of Sophia's and a Polaroid picture of Sophia and her together to the sign.
She quickly grabs the small bag from the truck and hangs it up a little higher in the tree so it can't be seen from the road, you won't be able to find it unless you are looking for it.
When she gets back to the farm she quickly walks inside and tells Sophia that they replied they just now have to wait until they hear from them. She sets the radio on the living room table and Sophia sits on the couch and stares at it for a while.
Eva grabs some blank white paper and the color pencils and a TV tray and brings them to Sophia. "How about you draw your mama another picture and maybe one for Carl too." Eva says and Sophia gets to it with a smile on her face happy to have a little distraction while they wait.
Eva needing something to do, starts dusting the house completely bored but that just makes her happier, boredom means you're not being attacked, trying to survive.
When she reaches the kitchen she sees Cody leaning against the table looking pale and sweaty. "Hey you ok?" She asks him and he shakes his head no. "Man your burning up, let's get you to bed you need some rest, hell we all do." Eva said and she and Abagail get Cody up and to his and Abigail's room.
"Not surprised he got sick. We hardly got much sleep these past few weeks. We need to make sure everything is clean, the boys can't get sick especially the baby." Charlie tells her and she and Jenna get to scrubbing the kitchen and bathroom to make sure no one else gets sick.

When they reach the sign they all jump out, except Shane again and they go up to the sign and Carol cries out when they see the picture of a smiling Sophia and a woman with lightly tanned skin and dark brown hair.
Rick takes the picture and the drawing down from the sign and hands them to Carol as Daryl checks the trees next to the sign. He quickly finds the small bag that is hanging from a higher up branch and inside he finds the radio and some extra batteries.
They sit in the car and Carol slowly turns the radio on and she makes sure it's on channel three before pressing down the bottom. "Hello... Eva...Sophia, its mama. Are you there? Sophia..." Carol said her voice cracking as her hands shake.
They sit there for what felt like hours as all they receive is static back. When she is about to try again in loud scratching sound rings though the radio before a crying child's voice rings through the radio.
"...Mama..."

After cleaning the house Eva sits down beside Sophia and Eva plays with Warren, helping him stand on her knees, his legs getting stronger every day, soon she thinks he might start to crawl.
She makes funny faces at him making him laugh which in turns makes her and Sophia laugh, the girl needs something to keep a smile on her face.
"Hello... Eva...Sophia, its mama. Are you there? Sophia..."
Eva and the others all sit up and look to the radio on the table and Eva quickly hands Warren over to Mel before grabbing up the radio and she holds it out to Sophia and she holds down the botton and nods to her.
"...Mama..." Sophia cries out and Carol quickly answers and they start talking back and forth both crying in happiness and Eva pulls Sophia closer to her when the girl becomes a crying mess and she gently takes the radio as the girl tries to calm her sobs but she has a hard time.
She buries her face into Eva's lap trying to catch her breath. "Hello Carol, this is Eva. Sophia is ok she just can't stop crying right now. I'm so happy to hear from you." Eva says as she rubs Sophia's back comforting the girl, she has been holding it all in but now she doesn't have too, she knows her mama is out there and close by too.
"I'm so happy too... I can't... what can I... how can I ever thank you." Carol said back and Eva and hear her crying as well. "You just did Carol and seeing a smile on this girls face is enough." Eva laughs a little and looks down at Sophia who is finally catching her breath but sobs still pop up now and again.

Daryl can't help but smile as he watches Carol speak with Sophia and then Eva. Now they just need to meet somewhere so they can get her back. "I want to get her back to you right now but it is too late in the day and I don't like to leave when it starts to get dark. I hope you understand that. Sophia's safety and that of my group comes first." Eva says and Carol quickly tells her that she does and Carol thanks her for keeping Sophia safe.
"There is a road not too far from where the sign is. No trees are nearby so I'll be able to see you from further away. It's on Pearl Street it's like two streets north of the sign." Eva says and Ricks holds his hand out and Carol hands him the radio.
"Hi Eva this is Rick and I know the street, how about around ten tomorrow morning, it'll give us both time to get there." Rick says and she agrees and tells him hello before asking how far from the sign they are to their camp.

"You don't have to say where it is, it's just that you have to be at least five mile near the town." Eva says quickly when all she gets back is silence. She doesn't need to know where their camp is, she knows what it's like needing to protect your group.
"Yes... we are within five miles of town. Why do you ask?" Rick asks her and she looks over at Sophia who is now sitting up and staring at her with a big smile on her face. "Because the radio needs to be within twenty miles of each other to work properly and we are on the other side of town which barely gives you much room. Since you are close you can reach us and Carol and Sophia and the rest of your group can talk with her all night. And to make sure you can reach us if something were to go wrong tomorrow." Eva tells them and Rick thanks her before telling them that Carl will be very happy to hear from Sophia.

After telling Eva that Carl will be happy to hear from Sophia and she tells him the time and street again before telling them she will see him tomorrow and that she is going to give the radio back to Sophia.
Rick turns around in his seat and hands the radio to Carol before turning around and leaning his head against the head rest. He ignores the look Shane is giving him as he turns the car on and he starts taking the long way back to the farm.
He can't believe their luck and he thanks god for this miracle, it is what the group needed especially Lori. The car ride is quiet except for the light talking from Carol and Sophia.
When they get back to camp Carol does not hesitate to let the others talk with Sophia. He pulls Lori to his side and kisses the side of her head. She looks up at him before grabbing his cheek and kissing his lips before giving him a smile which he returns. The group sits around the camp fire all of them in such a good mood, one that even Shane can't break down.
Not before long the sun starts to go down and the others go off to bed and Carol takes the radio into the RV with her as he goes to his, Lori's and Carl's tent. He looks down at Carl's sleeping face he sees the smile on his face and his chest relaxes feeling so happy to see a smile on his sons face again.
He changes out of his dirty clothes before climbing in beside Lori. She grabs his hand after he wraps his arm around her and she brings it up to lips and she kisses his hand before holding it close to her. He kisses her shoulder before getting comfortable, he is fast asleep before he knows it.

Abigail wakes up suddenly and looks around her room before settling on her boy. He is standing by his bed just standing there. "Cody hun, are you ok?" She whispers not wanting to wake the others, she sees him staggering towards her and she knows he hasn't been feeling to well.
She pats the bed beside her and she goes to move closer to the wall so he can lie beside her. She goes to help him when he falls to the bed but is stopped by the most excruciating pain in her throat. She claws the wall beside her as she starts choking on her own blood, a silent scream trying to leave her lips.
She dies quickly as her son tears into her throat before he starts clawing into her stomach constantly chewing. All the while the rest of the house is fast asleep save for Eva who is on watch for walkers.
She stares out the window with a smile on her face, Sophia will be with her mother tomorrow and Eva laughs to herself feeling so happy.
