I want to apologize for the two days without updates but on March 21 my cousin had her first baby and we stayed in the hosptial for over 12 hours and they had to do an emergency c-section but baby and mama are fine and they get to go home tomorrow and its a BOY YAY. but I was so drained yesterday that I didnt want to do really anything so im sorry about that but here is the next chapter :D
CHAPTER TWENTY-FIVE
The next morning after a long night of trying to sooth Warren and his teething, Eva makes her way out of her room carrying Warren and holding Hayden's hand as she takes them to Carol who has agreed to watch them for her to give Kailee, Mel and Beth a break from babysitting duties.
After kissing the boys and checking on T-dog she makes her way out of the cell blocks following after Rick, Daryl and Charlie. Today they are going to bring in their cars and park them in the court yard and then they are going to pile up the bodies to burn. Get that done and over with, none of them liking the constant smell of rotting corpses.
After moving the turned over bus with Hershel's red truck, they start to drive in all of their vehicles. When all the cars are in the fence or on the dirt road in the field, Rick locks up the gate before telling them that they need to start piling up all the bodies so they can burn them.
"Where are Glenn and Maggie we could use some help?" Charlie asks as he and Daryl drag over the last body from the courtyard to the ever growing pile in the field. "Up in the guard tower." Daryl said pointing up to the guard tower.
"Guard tower. They were just up there last night." Rick said smiling and shaking his head. "GLEN! MAGGIE!" Daryl yells and they all wait for them to answer. "Hey, what's up guys?" Glenn said nervously while zipping up his pants and they all begin to smile finding it way to funny.
"You coming?" Daryl yells and none of them can hold in their laughter any more when Maggie comes out with messed up clothes and her hair sticking out in odd angles. "What?" Glenn yells back looking confused. "You coming. Come on we could use a hand." Daryl yells with a smile on his face. "Yeah, yeah we'll be right down." Glenn yells back before he and Maggie go back inside the guard tower they all start laughing harder.
"Hey Rick." Charlie says suddenly and they all turn and look to where he is looking, to see that the two prisoners are out and walking towards them. "Come with me." Rick says getting angry and they start their way up the dirt road.
"That's close enough. We had an agreement." Rick said angrily seeing as how rick told them to never come near this part of the prison. "Please mister we know that. We made a deal, but you got to understand, we can't live there another minute, you follow me. All the bodies, people we knew blood and brains everywhere. There's ghost." Axel said stuttering over his words.
"Why don't you move the bodies out?" Daryl asks them as he stands next to Rick. "We tried. We did." Axel said looking from Rick to Daryl nervously. "The fence is down on the far side of the prison. Every time we drag a body out, those things just line up. Dropping the bodies and running back inside." Oscar tells them while Maggie and Glenn come out of the guard tower to stand behind them.
"Look, we had nothing to do with Tomas and Andrew, nothing." Axel said while he walks a bit closer to Rick and Daryl. "We'll do whatever it takes to be part of your group. Just please, please… don't make us live in that place." He begs and Rick looks over to Daryl and then back to Eva and Charlie, all of them shaking their heads.
"Our deal is non-negotiable. Either you live in your cell block, or you leave." Rick tells them. "I told you this was a waste of time. They ain't any different than the pricks that shot up our boys. We paid our dues enough that we would rather hit that road then go back into that shit hole." He said and Rick looks over to Daryl and so they take the prisoners down to the gate telling them they will give them a weeks' worth of food, a map and a knife.
After locking them in the gated area they drive up the cars and the bus and park them. It takes them a while to turn the bus around but they get it and it faces the gate to the dirt road while the other cars and Daryl's bike are parked along the fence line.
"Eva can you go pack them each a bag of food and some water and some other stuff to get by and one of the machetes?" Rick asks her after she parks her truck.
"Yeah no problem, should I grab a bat so they each have longer ranged weapon." She asks and Rick nods his head before turning to Daryl, Charlie and Glenn to tell them that they are going to go and grab fire wood not wanting to lose the light and telling Maggie to watch the prisoners.
Eva makes her way into the cell block and after telling Carol, Lori and Hershel about the prisoners, she makes her way to the cell that they are using as storage.
She packs them each a bag pack of food and water that will last a week if they ration, a map of Georgia and a compass, a pocket knife for each of them, a box of matches, two flashlights and the machete and the baseball bat.
After packing up them up, she takes the heavy bags out to the courtyard and down to the dirt road to where Maggie is leaning against the over turned bus.
After setting the bags down near Maggie's feet she tells the prisoners what is in the bags, both of them telling her thank you, before she turns to Maggie and pulls out a small notebook from her back pocket and they start throwing ideas back and forth for the supply run that Rick wants to make soon, Eva writing down everything they think they need, later Eva will go around asking everyone for anything special that they want them to look out for.
After an hour and going over the list a second time the men finally get back to the fence each carrying their armfuls of fire wood. Eva and Maggie both wave over to them, both happy to see their men and Rick and Charlie are alright.
Maggie then taps her arm while looking over her shoulder, which makes Eva turns and see everyone but T-dog, are outside in the now clean-ish courtyard. Eva waves happily to them with a huge smile on her face, seeing the happy smiles on all the kids faces.
Her happiness though soon turns to terror, when Carl whirls around and starts shooting the walkers that are swarming behind them.
It seems like it is taking forever to run up the dirt road hill to get to the others who are being surrounded by walkers. when Eva and Maggie reach the fence they both grab ahold of it and shove the fence open before taking their guns out to start shooting down the walkers.
Maggie covers the others as they get the kids and themselves into the bus while Eva tries to see where all the walkers are coming from.
When the men finally get there and everyone else is locked in the bus, she grabs Glenn's arm and they make their way over to the gated area that they had cleared and locked last night.
After killing the last of the walkers in the small alcove, Glenn picks up the broken chain that they used to lock the gate. "That wasn't pulled apart it was cut. Someone cut the chains and opened that door." Eva yells angrily to Glenn while pointing to the door that leads to a section of the prison that they haven't searched yet.
After they shut the door that leads to the unsearched part of the prison, they re-chain the gate up then they start making their way back to the bus. As they near the bus this very loud alarm begins to go off. Eva looks at Glenn confused seeing as how there has been no electricity anywhere for months now.
They run over to where Rick, Daryl and the prisoners are standing by the entrance to their cell block. Rick asks the prisoners about the generators and after telling them Rick tells Eva and Glenn to take Axel to the other door to the prison while he and Daryl will take Oscar to the other and whoever reaches it first, they shut it off.
So they split up to shut off the alarms that are sure to attract walkers for miles. She hands Axel a pocket knife and she, Glenn and Axel make their way into the dark halls of the prison to shut off the generators.
TWDTWDTWDTWDTWDTWDTWDTWDTWDTWDTWDTWD
Rick screams for Lori and Carl as he runs up the hill, his gun in hand. When he, Daryl and Glenn reach the top they see that Eva and Maggie are guarding the others who are boarding the bus. Rick sighs in relief when he sees both Lori and Carl through the bus windows, before seeing Eva grab Glenn and runnning off towards the area that a few walkers are spilling out.
"Maggie stay with the bus! Daryl come with me!" He yells when he sees two walkers stumbling out of their cellblock. So they spilt up and he and Daryl run to the cellblock and after shooting the two walkers they make their way inside.
They kill three more walkers that are milling around the common area before making their way to the cells. Daryl shoots one of the walkers that are piled up on T-dogs closed door, before dropping his crossbow and he takes his knife out before stabbing the other.
While Daryl does this, Rick runs over to the door at the end of the cells that leads to another part of the prison and he slams it shut, making sure it latches before running over to Daryl and he unlocks T-dogs cell door.
"Hey are you alright, T are you alright!" Daryl yells as he kneels beside T-dog who is on the floor. "I think he is having a panic attack. T just take deep breaths, you're ok now." Rick says trying to be soothing and after a minute T-dogs breathing starts getting better.
"I was asleep... heard walkers in the hall... had to close...door...think I dislo... dislocated my knee... again... I thought..." T-dog said panting before this loud alarm cuts him off and Rick looks over to Daryl before he yells at T-dog that he will have someone come protect him before he and Daryl take off running out side.
Rick runs to the bus and he yells for Charlie and when the man steps out he tells him about T-dog and he quickly jogs to the cellblock and he tells Maggie to stay on the bus before looking over to the two prisoners before looking to Daryl who nods his head.
"How the hell can this be happening?!" Rick yells at the prisoners when he and Daryl meet them half way in the courtyard near the cellblock.
"It has to be the backup generators." Oscar yells back, all of them having to yell over the blaring alarms. "How do you turn those on?" Rick asks Oscar angrily, while watching Glenn and Eva run over to them.
"There's three connected to a diesel tank, each one controls a part of the prison. But the guards shut them off when the prison was over run." Oscars tells them and Rick looks over to the main gates where several walkers are starting to pile up.
"Can someone open the main gates remotely, with full power." Rick asks Oscar and he tells them that he has only worked there for a few days but it could be possible so Rick tells them that they need to spilt up into two groups and the one that gets there first they need to shut off the generators, not only so that whoever is messing with them can't open the main gate but to stop this constant blaring alarm before it can draw in anymore walkers.
So Rick splits off with Daryl and Oscar, while Glenn goes with Eva and Axel. So they run through the hall only having to kill five walkers as they follow Oscar's directions to the generator room.
When Rick, Daryl and Oscar start going down the long corridor to the generator room several walkers start to follow after them. So after opening the generator door, Rick starts to scan the area for walkers and whoever is messing with them while Daryl and Oscar block the door.
Rick looks over the several panels on the generators before yelling over to Oscar asking him how to turn them off when he hears someone yelling and running towards him.
He turns and jumps out of the way just in time to miss the swinging axe. He grabs ahold of the axe and shoves the man back into the wall pinning him with the axe and it takes him a moment to realize that it is Andrew the prisoner that he thought he killed with walkers.
Andrew knees Rick in the leg which gives him just enough leverage to push him back and up against one of the generators. Rick shoves back and swings them around with Andrew backed up against some storage lockers.
Andrew lets one hand go of the axe and punches him in the face, which makes him stumble back and he lets go of the axe and it falls to the ground as he pulls out his gun.
He starts to point it at Andrew but he kicks it out of his hand before he can shoot. The gun slides across the floor and the both start to go for it but they both stop when they see that Oscar is standing there with Ricks gun pointing at them.
Rick holds his hand up in defeat looking the man in his eyes. "Shoot him! We can take back this prison!" Andrew yells from beside him and Oscar doesn't look away from Ricks eyes before moving the gun and pulling the trigger.
Rick takes in a deep breath and looks down at Andrews feet before looking behind him to see Andrews's brain splattered all over the storage lockers. Rick looks back to Oscar and the man looks at him and the stare at each other for a moment before Oscar lets the gun flip down and he hands the gun back to Rick.
Rick grabs his gun from Oscars' hand and he nods at him before placing the gun back in its holster before walking over to the generators and flipping the switches that say emergency shut off and he sighs when he hears the alarms shutting down.
TWDTWDTWDTWDTWDTWDTWDTWDTWDTWDTWDTWD
Lori looks around the bus, staring at all the scared faces while sitting down on the futon next to Carl, who is actually letting her hold his hand.
Everything happened so fast one moment they were outside enjoying the sun and fresh air and then all of a sudden nothing but panic and gunshots. Lori rubs her belly as she tries to slow her frantic heartbeat.
Lori's breath picks up and she lets go of Carl's hand before grabbing the edge of the futon before she hunches over, crying out. When the pain finally lessons she looks up at Carol who is kneeling before her. "Is it the baby?" Carol asks as Hershel walks over to them. "I think so... oh god!" Lori said before crying out once more.
In between the contractions they move Lori to the back of the bus to the bed. Everyone is scrambling around the bus following the orders that Hershel is yelling over the blaring alarms.
After getting Lori out of her pants they prop her up against the back of the bus, leaning against the pile of pillows that Kailee fixed up for her. Lori smiles over to Carol in thanks as the woman covers her lower half with a towel.
"Yeah your dilating Lori, just try and relax as best you can." Hershel tells her as he checks her out. "Maggie I need you to run to my room and grab the dark green duffle bag from the top bunk!" Hershel yells back to Maggie who nods her head before turning to leave the bus.
"What's the bag for, don't you have everything here?" Carl asks him as he looks over all the things the girls have been gathering for him. "It's just in case your mother can't give birth to the baby naturally." Hershel tells him before looking up to Lori from the stool he is sitting on before her. They have planned and packed the bag for a caesarean section birth if she needs it.
"Everything is looking good Lori, I'll have to guess you're about a three or a four, you just have to dilate just a little more." Hershel tells Lori who is nods her head as she breaths through the beginning of another contraction.
After moving pass another contraction the alarms suddenly stop and Lori smiles over at Carl, who is sitting beside her, wiping the sweat from her face when she needs it.
Lori tries to ignore the dark green duffle bag that Maggie just brought to Hershel, she doesn't want to think about that if he uses what's in the bag, that she might not make it.
"Carl baby, you know I love you more than anything right." She says trying not to cry as she touches his cheek, smiling when he nods his head. "If something happens to me, you take care of your daddy for me and your little brother or sister, alright." She says to him both of them tearing up and he holds her hand when another contraction hits her hard.
"Lori... Lori!"
She looks over Hershel's shoulder to see Rick making his way back to them. She can't hold in the tears anymore when she meets his eyes.
"I'm here, I'm here." He whispers in to her as he sits down on her other side. He wipes the tears from her face before kissing her forehead, then leaning his head against hers.
"I'm here Lori...I'm here... I'm here..."
