"Never wanted this, never wanna see you hurt.
Every little bump in the road I tried to swerve.
People are people, and sometimes it doesn't work out,
Nothing we say is gonna save us from the fall out."

(Marissa's POV)
I was looking for my shoes while Ty got his backpack ready so I could take him to school. Steve had already gone into work and I was running late. Doris has been really helpful the last couple of weeks with taking care of the kids. Steve still seemed to think she was hiding something and I could tell to with her sneaking out in the middle of the night. I haven't told Steve about her leaving and showing up a few hours later he already had enough on his plate.
Mary was who I was most concerned about. Doris had been pestering Steve to convince her to come out to the island. Since Steve still hadn't called Mary I took matters into my own hands. Mary was flying in tonight to surprise her brother and our kids. I just hoped everything goes over smoothly with the family reunion.
I was broken out of my thoughts when I heard knocking on my bedroom door.
"Honey isn't Ty going to be late?" Doris asked.
Casting a quick glance at the alarm clock on my side of the bed I noticed it was 7:30 and Tyler's class started at 7:45.
"Yes, I just found my shoes." I sighed.
"Ty, baby you need to hurry we need to leave right now." I yelled down.
"I can take him." Doris offered.
"No its fine. Just got a lot on my mind today" I replied.
"Everything okay?" Doris asked with concern.
"Everything is fine. I think I am just really tired." I lied.
"Look honey if you need my help all you have to do is ask." Doris answered giving me a look like she wasn't buying anything I was saying.
"Thank you." I replied giving her shoulder a squeeze and heading down the stairs.
I kissed Lily and Liam goodbye before rushing Ty to school. We made it to the school with 3 minutes to spare.
At HQ, Steve had everyone gathered around the smart table going over a new case. The victims were and older married couple Josh and Caroline Holloway. Both were brutally murdered in their home with all their personal belongings ransacked and unaccounted for.
"The couple is wealthy and owns a number of shops around the island. They have three children who all live off the main island. The couple moved to Hawaii about 8 years ago for retirement. We have no leads so far and Max is running autopsy as we speak" Kono spoke.
"Let's see if we can get a list of items that was taken from the house and check to see if there are any cameras on the street and see if maybe we got a glance at our killers." Steve ordered.
"Have the children been notified yet?" I asked
"Someone at HPD has already done that. The oldest son Rick should be on the island within the next few hours." Chin answered.
"It looks like an inside job to me. Why target just one house in a wealthy neighborhood like that when there is millions for you to take." Danny added.
"Good point. Marissa see if you can get a list of staff that worked in the Holloway house. Kono I want you to see if you can get that list belonging. Chin go down and see if there was anyone who saw the getaway car. ." Steve ordered.
"Where are you and Danny going?" I asked.
"I have to see an old friend" Steve answered.
"Steve if you think spying on your mom is going to get you answers you know that is only going to make things worse." I replied.
"I know what I am doing. Just trust me." Steve answered.
"Your mom was a spy for a living you really don't think she is going to sniff out a tail in a second?" Danny reasoned.
"Look this guy is good at what he does. We will be back in back." Steve answered taking off with Danny.
(Steve's POV)
Mick Logan was a longtime friend of my dad's and also a private investigator. He was an older man with sandy brown hair mixed with grey. He was sitting at the bar of a small restaurant close to the beach wearing a pair of khaki shorts and a Hawaiian button down.
"Might want to take it easy on the Mai Tai's." I called out.
"I am not working yet" Mick shot back.
"Isn't it a little early to be drinking?" Danny asked pulling a bar stool out to sit.
"I could be asking about your clothes instead" Mick joked looking at Danny in the eyes.
"Look Mick I don't have a lot of time to talk. I need your help with something." I said.
"What do you need, kid?" Mick asked
"I need you to put your PI skills to work. My mother is back from the dead and I need to find out what she is in to." I answered.
"Wait a minute your old man buried your mother almost 20 years ago." Mick turned with interest.
"She faked her death. Look all I need you to do is follow her around and see who she talks to. The trick is you have to be careful because she is an ex-spy." I reply.
"Are you sure this is what you want because this can open a lot of doors you might now be ready for, kid" Mick replied.
"I need that information. How soon can you start tailing her?" I asked.
"I just need an address. And another thing how are you going to pay for this because I don't work for cheap." Mick answered.
"How much?" I asked.
"I take half now and the other half when the job is done. $1,500 now and the rest after." Mick said taking another sip of his drink.
"People really pay you that much to spy on people" Danny asked.
"You would be amazed on how much people are willing to spend to spy on someone. Look kid since I know you I will do this for you for free." Mick shot back.
"Thanks man. I owe you one." I thanked him shaking his hand.
"This has to be another one of your stupidest ideas ever." Danny mumbled climbing into the Camaro.
"This is the only way I am going to be able to find out what she is hiding. I can't follow her all the time and its better if it's someone she doesn't know." I fired back.
Back at HQ Marissa was talking to the Holloway's son Rick. The man looked to be in his late twenties with dark brown hair. He was distraught as he talked to Marissa in her office.
"How long ago did he get here?" Danny asked looking into Marissa's office.
"About 15 minutes ago. He gave us the list of personal belongings that his parents owned. CSU looked through the house and they found some finger prints on the outside windows. I am having Charlie run them through the database to see if he can get a hit." Kono replied.
"Danny and I will see what Max has for us. Any word from Chin?" I replied.
"Chin founds some security cameras from a house next door that has a good view on the Holloway's front lawn. He is talking to the owners to get them now." Kono answered.
"Good. Let me know if you get anything." I say.
Max was still in the process of opening Josh Holloway's body when Danny and I made it downstairs.
"That's disgusting Max." Danny cringed as Max pulled the skin away for Mr. Holloway's chest.
"This is the works of doing an autopsy, Danny." Max rebutted.
"What do you have for us Max?" I asked cringing as well.
"Mrs. Holloway has a single gunshot wound to the chest killing her instantly. Mr. Holloway does have a gunshot wound in the back of the head but with further investigation he died from a heart attack before someone shot him. " Max rambled.
"Let me guess the wife was shot first than the husband?" Danny asked.
"Your assumptions are correct detective." Max replied.
"Shoots the wife first causing the husband to have a heart attack. But why shoot him if he is already dead?" Danny answered.
"Someone had it in for Mr. Holloway and wanted him to suffer." I say.
"Thanks Max let us know if you find anything else." I thank him.
Marissa was standing in front of the smart table with Chin and Kono going over the list of items missing from the house.
"Rick gave us the list of items that his parents owned. Some aren't worth very much but there is a diamond necklace that is missing that is easily worth 4 million dollars. He said his father bought it for his mother as a gift a few years ago." Marissa went over pulling up a picture of the necklace.
"Well there is a good reason to break in right there." Kono said.
"Rick said that there is only one cleaning lady that helped clean the house once a week. I am having HPD bring her in now." Kono added.
"I got Charlie of those security camera tapes right now. You can see 2 people get out of a white sedan parked across the street from the victim's house all in black. Charlie is trying to see if he can get a good angle on the licenses plate." Chin stated.
"Steve HPD has the maid downstairs." Marissa cut in.
"Danny and I will see if she has anything to say. Keep going over everything and see if there is anything we missed." I ordered.
(Marissa's POV)
Charlie got to hits for us when Danny and Steve finally came back up. The first hit was on the gun used to kill Mrs. Holloway. The slug was a .22 caliber and the same slug was used in a robbery about 3 months ago when a young woman was shot for not giving up her watch fast enough. The second hit was on the licenses plate. The car belonged to an ex-convict by the name of Jeohani Wikio. His rap sheet was over a mile long with assault with a deadly weapon, to local convenient store robberies.
Steve was giving out orders to us again as I checked the time on my phone. Mary's plane would be landing in a two hours and I had yet to tell Steve about his sister coming home.
"HPD is already on their way to check Wikio's apartment. Marissa I want you to stay with Rick just in case they make a plan to take care of loose ends. The rest of us will go with HPD to the apartment. This guy is armed so let's gear up and head out.
Jeohani Wikio was a smug bastard when he was brought in along with his friend Kiko Salano. Wikio had targeted the Holloway family after learning Josh Holloway was his father. Holloway had an affair after his second child was born with a maid when on a business trip to Hawaii 22 years ago. After finding out who is father was Jeohani decided payback needed to be done for all the times his mother struggled to put food on the table. HPD had booked Wikio and Salano and the case was closed.
Steve was in his office texting on his phone when I walked in.
"Hey do you have a minute?" I asked.
"What's going on?" he asked setting his phone down and directing his attention to me.
"I know you wanted to tell Mary on your own but it didn't seem like you were going to make the move to do it. So I did. Mary is on her way here and should be landing in about 20 minutes. She needs to know about you mom, Steve. "I said.
"I don't think now is such a good time." Steve answered.
"Well she is going to be here. Steve I know you are trying to figure out what she is into but Mary needs to know now. She has grown up without a mother too. I told her that there was someone we wanted her to meet. Plus she is excited to finally see Liam and the kids." I replied.
"I wish you would have told me about this sooner." Steve sighed.
"You would have talked me out of it. This needs to be done. Mary has a right to know. She is already going to be pissed that we have kept this from her this long." I answered.
Getting up from his chair he stood in front of me not breaking eye contact.
"What's her flight number?" He asked.
"Hawaiian Airlines flight 223. She should be landing about now." I reply enjoy the proximity of his body to mine.
"I will take her out and tell her." Steve said with his aneurysm face.
"This is all your mom has been talking about for weeks. I know this isn't really a good time with everything going on but she has the right to know." I whisper.
"I know" Steve whispers back pulling me in for a hug. He kisses my forehead and takes off.
Around midnight I hear Steve's truck pull into the drive-way. Doris is sitting impatiently on the couch. When I hear the slamming of two doors I send a reassuring smile Doris's way.
Steve walks in first carrying a black suitcase. His facial expression looks sympathetic towards his mom. Mary doesn't say a word when she comes in. Her face is filled with anger but I could see the tears building up behind her eyes. Mary dropped her purse and ran straight into her mother's arms.
Looking at the two McGarrett women in tears Steve pulled me into a hug and started to pull me up the stairs.
I climbed into bed as he quickly stripped to his boxers and an old navy shirt that had the arms cut off. He climbed next to me and pulled me in for a kiss.
I was breathless when we finally released me.
"Thank you" he whispered capturing my lips once more.
