ANNABETH
Annabeth still didn't want to believe their luck. Camp Half-Blood and Camp Jupiter were probably destroying each other right now, and just as they were about to go help they were teleported away to become these 'tributes' in some futuristic world called Panem. And, as usual, with no idea of how to get back. Annabeth didn't know what God or Titan had done this, but what she did know was that the next time she saw them, she would make sure to put her knife right between their eyes.
After Percy and Annabeth had been 'caught' eating lunch, The 5 had a loooong talk about what was going on. Annabeth had discovered that these 'tributes' had mentors, which in this case, was the long dark haired woman and the short blond haired man. Their names were Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, and from the way they shot looks at each other, it was pretty obvious they were a couple. The pink haired lady's name was Effie Trinket. She was the tribute's 'coordinator', whatever that meant.
On the bright side, Annabeth hadn't felt so well rested in years. After taking a glorious shower and sleeping 11 hours in possibly the comfiest bed she'd ever set eyes on, she felt like she could take on another dozen or so Giants. Her leg injury, which she had gotten during the battle at the acropolis, was healing well, and Katniss had pulled out some weird medicines and stuff to put on it. She didn't really look like she knew what she was doing, but it seemed to be working.
'Darlings! It's time to get up! Today's a big, big, big day!' Effie sung as she knocked on Annabeth's door. Annabeth looked around to find a T-shirt and sweatpants sitting on the dresser in the corner, both puke-green. Yuck. Annabeth shook her head. She would settle for her ordinary camp-half blood T-shirt and jeans, thank you very much.
As Annabeth walked out into the kitchen, Katniss and Peeta were already seated, chowing down into eggs and bacon. Annabeth sat down with them.
'So.' Katniss looked over at Annabeth, her mouth still half-full. 'Today's a training day. You and Percy will go down to the tribute center, where you'll get to 'show off' your skills.' She looked Annabeth over once. 'From the look of things, I think you'll need it.' Annabeth cocked an eyebrow. She didn't know why this woman didn't like her, but she wouldn't let her comments bug her. After all, hopefully they would figure out a way to get back to Long Island in a few days, and this woman wouldn't be a problem.
Percy walked in, his hair sticking up on one side of his head and his eyes half closed. He slumped down in the seat beside Annabeth, and she had to suppress a laugh at the sight of his disheveled manner.
'What?' He looked over at Annabeth in a half-daze. 'The bed was really nice. Can I go back to it?' Annabeth rolled her eyes and reached out to flatten his hair again.
'As Katniss was just saying, Percy, you and Annabeth will go down to the tribute center today for training.' Peeta bit into a piece of Bacon. 'I'm sure you'll both do great. I don't know how good either of you are at any of this, so we'll have a bit of personal training afterwards. For now, though, stay away from your preferred weapons. We don't want any of the other tributes discovering your skills. Yet.' Peeta smiled. At least one of their mentors was nice.
Percy frowned. 'Stay away from my preferred weapon? That's hard.' He dug a pen out of his pocket. 'I've got it right here.' He ignored the bizarre looks he was getting from Katniss and Peeta and uncapped the pen. It grew into a 3 foot long celestial bronze sword, Riptide.
'Oh my!' Effie, who had just walked in, collapsed against the doorway. 'How'd you get that through security?!'
Percy smiled and recapped the pen. Peeta's jaw hung open. He then shook himself and replied, 'That is a really, really sharp pen.' Percy nodded in agreement.
'It reappears in my pocket wherever I go. I can't lose it. What's for breakfast?' Percy puts riptide back in his pocket. Effie, recovering from her initial shock of Percy's sword, picks up two plates with scrambled eggs and Bacon and delivered them over to the two demigods.
Peeta nods, thinking. 'We have to figure out a way for you to get that thing into the arena.' He looked cautiously across towards Annabeth. 'You don't happen to have a magic paper clip in your pocket, do you?' Annabeth shook her head, smiling.
'Pity'. Peeta finished the last of his eggs, pushing the plate away. 'A concealed weapon like that would do wonders in the games.'
'You keep talking about these games, how we're tributes, that there are other tributes, but you haven't really told us what it is yet.' Annabeth noted.
'But my dears! Surely you know all about the games! Every person in Panem is required to watch them!' Effie trotted over with her own plate and sat down at the table.
'Effie, please.' Katniss put a hand on her shoulder to stop her. 'They've never been tributes before. I think they're asking for a more…. Detailed explanation, don't you think?' Katniss cast a glare in Annabeth's and Percy's direction, bidding them to agree. For some reason, she didn't want this lady to know that Percy and Annabeth weren't from here. Annabeth nodded slowly and a bit uncertainly, but Effie was convinced. Katniss began to explain.
'24 tributes will enter the arena, 1 boy and 1 girl from each district. We're district twelve. When you enter the arena, there will be a one minute countdown. You will all be positioned in a full circle, with a large object called the cornucopia in the middle. This cornucopia has everything you'll need to survive in the arena. The goal, of course, is to be the last one alive. That means,' Katniss paused for dramatic effect. 'that only one of you will be coming out of that arena.' Katniss looked into Annabeth's eyes. She was warning her. She obviously thought this wouldn't go over well with Annabeth. She was right.
Annabeth looked over at Percy. To get out of here, would one of them have to die? Percy's jaw was clenched in that way it always did when he was determined. He threw a glance at Annabeth with something like worry in his eyes, then looked away. Annabeth got the message. Percy would not leave the arena without her.
'That's not happening.' Percy put down his fork, leaving half of his eggs still on his plate. 'We both get out, or we won't get out.' Katniss and Peeta quickly exchanged glances, and Peeta put his hand on Katniss's shoulder.
Peeta smiled at the half-bloods slyly, almost evilly. It didn't suit him. 'There… might be a way we could arrange that.'
