True Magic
A/N: ... I know, it's been years... Please forgive me, I kind of lost the spark for writing so I haven't been updating. Please accept these two chapters as an apology. I rushed to get these chapters written, so please forgive any errors. Also, what happened to line breaks? You have to use the source code to put them in now?

Chapter Seven
"I know Professor Rowan said to go to Solaceon, but could we stop in Celestic Town instead? I've always wanted to visit it," said Dawn, addressing Lucas as they both closed the doors to their respective rooms. Before Lucas could speak, Dawn continued hastily, "I know it would waste some time, but we might as well rest a little bit more. We're still not totally recovered."
Lucas sighed. "Alright, I don't see why not. It shouldn't take that much longer to get to Veilstone from Celestic Town. We could always go to Solaceon after anyways."
Dawn let out a celebratory "Whoo-hoo!" and the duo returned their room keys to Nurse Joy before she directed them to the teleportation diagram. A few moments after the usual procedure, they opened their eyes to a nearly identical room.
"Hello," said the Celestic Town Nurse Joy. "Please come with me." She directed the two out of the room and left them to their own devices after that. Dawn quickly dragged Lucas out the door, and they breathed in the fresh air of the town together.
"It's so wonderful here!" cried Dawn, tossing her arms up and spinning in a circle. "Come on, Lucas, let's go explore! If you come here, you've got to visit the Celestic Ruins!"
"I've heard of the ruins before," commented Lucas as they walked towards a cave entrance in the center of the town. "Apparently it details some of Sinnoh's mythology. I guess we'll see."
They entered the cave, and the etchings on the far wall immediately caught their eye. A light in the center of the picture was surrounded by three others.
"What does it mean, do you think?" asked Dawn as they walked up to the wall. "What part of our mythology is this?"
"I don't know... I never studied Sinnoh myth that much. Maybe someone around here will know," said Lucas, eyeing the drawing just as curiously as Dawn.
"That person might be me."
The two turned around at the familiar voice. The blonde woman who helped them in Eterna had just entered the cave.
"Cynthia!" said Dawn. "Sinnoh's champion!"
The woman blinked and then laughed sheepishly. "So you found out? Sorry about not telling you, it's just that I don't like to broadcast my identity everywhere I go."
"Professor Rowan told us who you were," said Lucas. "What are you doing in Celestic Town?"
Cynthia smiled. "This is my hometown. My grandmother lives here. I was just visiting the area." Her expression suddenly became thoughtful. "Now, as for the drawing... do you two know anything about mythical creatures?"
"I feel like my grandparents or someone told me about them before," said Dawn. "All I can remember is that they're magical creatures that are supposed to control some major part of the world."
Cynthia nodded. "Allow me to explain. This cave painting has always been described this way. The center light represents one of the mythical creatures known as Dialga or Palkia. In Sinnoh myth, Dialga is the ruler of time, and Palkia is the ruler of space. Together, they hold the universe together. The three lights surrounding that center represent the guardians of Sinnoh's three lakes; they are three more mythical creatures known as Uxie, Mesprit, and Azelf. The three of them represent knowledge, emotion, and willpower, respectively. These are the three beings that have imbued all of life today with those three ideas."
"But why would those two creatures—Dialga and Palkia, was it?—be represented with a single light?" asked Lucas. "Wouldn't it make more sense to have two?"
"Yes, I wondered that too," said Cynthia. "Which is why I have a theory of what this painting may be depicting. May I continue?" The other two nodded. "Thank you. There is one more creature in Sinnoh mythology; it is known as Giratina, and represents everything contrary to our known universe. . If you noticed, Uxie, Mesprit, and Azelf formed a trio. I believe that Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina also form a trio. Dialga and Palkia must be the ones controlling our universe, with Giratina balancing their power with its own. Together, these guardians of creation write the underlying essence of our universe.
"Thus, I stumbled upon a curious idea. Could this triangle of lights represent Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina? And the large light at their center. Does it represent something else? Could it be what created those guardians of creation and this world of ours?"
The trio stood silent for a few moments before Lucas spoke. "You have an incredible knowledge of Sinnoh's mythology."
Cynthia laughed. "Yes, I'm a researcher of myths. I've always hoped that there might be some inkling of truth to those stories, but never has anyone actually witnessed any of those fantastical creatures. I can only presume that these stories were started centuries and centuries ago, to be passed down to our current generation."
"Where would anyone find these beings anyways?" asked Dawn. "Are there more detailed drawings of what the creatures look like?"
"Oh yes," said Cynthia. "There are many drawings throughout Sinnoh's ancient documents. In fact, Dialga and Palkia are depicted right outside this cave. Let me show you."
The woman brought the other two outside the cave and pointed to stone drawings on either side of the cave opening. Two giant creatures were carved into the stone.
"Wow," breathed Dawn. "How did we miss this earlier when we walked in?"
"This is incredible," said Lucas. "Our mythology is so fascinating."
Suddenly, Nurse Joy came rushing out of the rest center. "Mr. Lucas, Ms. Dawn, Professor Rowan has an urgent call for you!"
The two turned at their names and quickly ran up to meet the nurse, who took them back to the center. Cynthia followed, feeling strangely uneasy.
"You two," said Professor Rowan, "need to go to Sinnoh's three lakes. Team Galactic has been spotted at each one! I'm not sure what they're planning, but it cannot bode well for others. You must get there soon! Oh, Cynthia," Rowan saw the blonde woman standing behind the others. "If you can help, please do so. I must alert others to keep safe, so I wish you good luck." The screen went black.
"Why would Team Galactic go to the three lakes? What could be there?" asked Lucas. Dawn looked just as confused.
Cynthia slowly shook her head. "It's Sinnoh mythology, but the three lake guardians are supposed to be sleeping in each of their respective lakes."
"You mean those three you told us about? Uxie, Mesprit, and Azelf?" asked Dawn. "But it's just mythology!"
"All stories have some seed of truth buried in them," said Cynthia. "There must be a reason that Team Galactic is at the lakes. This is the only reason I can think of. But no matter, let us go. It is vital that we intercept them in whatever they are planning. We must split up. I will teleport us to each lake. From there, we must hope for the best."
Cynthia placed her hands on Lucas and Dawn's shoulders and closed her eyes. A flash of light surrounded the three and they disappeared.
