Chapter 3

Bloodlines

Shock, worry, anger, confusion, that's how Bella Cullen ('nee Swan) felt when Alice, her sister-in-law, told her and the others about the vision she had of a vampire going to and entering Bella's father, Charlie's home. The feelings got worse when Alice said that the vampire and anything going on, at, or with Charlie for that matter, had just went blank. The only thing that would explain that, they all knew would be the Wolves.

Hearing that Bella thought her husband Edward, (the only true telepath of the vampire world) and his sister Alice, (a Seer of the future) would both share a look of relief not what looked to be disbelief and terror or more like horror on both their beautiful faces.

Unknown to Bella and the others of their family and friends who had gathered in the Amazon for a late celebration of Bella and Edward's daughter Reneesme's birthday, both Alice and Edward recognized the vampire that had gone to see Charlie. They didn't, at first and now didn't know how to tell the others, really Bella.

So as Alice and family friend / fellow gifted Vamp from Egypt, Benjamin, slowly got everyone to leave the house they were all staying at to give the couple the illusion of privacy; Bella knew something was really wrong.

Her sorrowful cries could've been heard nearly a mile away to those that had super hearing and, just outside the house, by their young daughter who had wrestled/fought with her Aunt Alice and Uncles Emmett and Benjamin,(who she adopted like so many of the Cullen's close friends) .

The others of their family were in just in too much shock to really think to do anything. Even Nessie's Uncle Jasper, who was always a man of action, just stood, listened, and watched as his wife struggled with their niece; like most of the others around them he could do nothing to help right now.

After the crying, which was closely followed by yelling and screaming from Bella at her best friend Jacob Black (one of the Alphas to the wolf pack back home) to call pack leader and head alpha Sam Uley, came the shocked quiet that was only helped and achieved by her daughter not leaving her side or her arms and her loving and worried husband by her side.

Then came the packing followed by the hasty traveling back home as fast as they could. Some of the friends even decided to go back to the States. Well, their Egyptian friends did, the others either stayed or went back to their own homes.

The Cullen cousins, the Denali Clan, at first were spilt on what to do; but once they realized how much the worse alternative would hurt their newest cousins, the choice was made and they too were headed back to Forks with their family. Because for better or worse - they were a Family.

3/3/3/3

This can't be happening – not again! This can't be happening! thought Caroline, running as fast as she could into the woods behind Charlie's house, away from the town and its buildings and people. She had been running and dodging for over two hours with still no way to tell Charlie about his front door. Stupid Dogs, do they not know or care how much it cost to repair a door, and storm door to boot? Stupid, Mangy, Horrible, No-good, flee-infested, Baka (Idiot) – Mutts!

Just then, three more joined in the chase. Thankfully smaller, but still a big threat; Even if they weren't as coordinated as their bigger…brothers? It didn't matter; they made up for their size by using their brains. Two of the smaller did a series of growls and yelps to make it sound like they had ran into something, which got Caroline's attention as she stopped in a small clearing surrounded by trees, until her eyes flickered to her right where a big patchwork wolf was charging at her. She did the only thing she could do – Run!

And she did, right toward the smaller ones which seemed to scare them more than anything. Using that, she jumped onto the bigger of the two's head and leaped backward. Thanking her years of gymnastics the whole way as she grabbed a tree branch, and jumping to the third tree over using it to sliding down it a ways before lightly landing, and running again. This seemed to surprise some of the pack. That's when she noticed all the bigger, darker colored wolves that had joined.

Do I have Dognip on me or something!? Caroline yelled into her mind as she dodged two falling trees and one really big, brown - almost black - wolf. What do they eat whales? How the hell did they get that big?! Panting more than normal, one thought kept popping into her head, which would not go away: Damon's so going to say I told you so…I just know it. I'll be lucky to leave the house for school after this!

Caroline was so busy trying to out run the wolves, she didn't really notice where she was headed, or that they were in fact herding her, right toward the cliffs. Just as she was about to jump onto a tree again and try to double back, one of the younger ones from before ran right in front of her and put himself between Caroline and the Cliffs. Which she took notice of, as she came to a sliding halt. It saved me…but - why?

Suddenly loud barking and growls from the other wolves could be heard all around the woods, making it seem as if the whole of the forest was swarming with the dogs. They apparently, didn't like the pup saving her.

Caroline was so distracted, that she didn't see the dark brown wolf come up behind her and grab her right leg; swinging her around across the forest floor like a rag doll; ripping her jeans along with her skin; Causing Caroline to scream and fall face first into the still wet mud, that was getting wetter by the moment, thanks to the storm over head. Just as she started to try and rise from the ground, the same wolf grabbed the same leg again, making the already bad bite mark even worse.

As she was struggling with the wolf on her leg, another - similar in color - grabbed her right upper arm, crushing the bones causing another scream – this one of pure unadulterated agony - to come from her pale turning lips. That's when she took notice of something she should have realized sooner. Why am I so weak?

She couldn't help but think about the last time she had fought a of pack wolves; the difference being last time they didn't touch her until she was ready for either the knock-out or the kill-shot…this time was very different which made it even more dangerous.

Looking down at her leg she could just make out bone and muscle in the jaw of the wolf, which normally would have sent her into a heaving fit, this time it just reminded her of what she had to fight for. Who she hopes, she still has to fight for, and why she had to live. Just as the moon started to slowly try and come through the clouds, reveling all the blood and gore mixing into the mud.

That's when the real fight started, and when the darkness tried to take her more and more. She had to fight; she would not die this day not now, not with her secret still too new and still unknown. With that in mind, she punched the wolf on her leg in the eye with her free hand, causing it to jerk away, then she twisted, ripping her arm more, out of the other wolves' mouth and doing a round-house kick to its head, causing it to fly away into the other wolves and even more into the trees around them all.

The other wolves that were still standing looked on, some almost frozen in place, just watching as their brothers who got pushed back, started to go after the obviously not normal vampire they were used to fighting; fight for her life – again - but this time she was running as well as fighting. Leaving the cliffs and finding dirt paths, leading who knows where, all she knew was that it was away from those deadly cliffs; away from the main threat….or so she thought. The fight went on for another hour before the tide started to turn.

3/3/3/3

"Damon, what the hell are you doing?" Stefan Salvatore yelled up the stairs, his voice coming from the living room that had boxes and boxes of what looked like Caroline's stuff. He could hear his brother upstairs moving stuff around and murmuring about 'Prudy Trudy & Sexy Blondes'…? If he heard his crazy brother right that is. Guess he's in Care's room….What in the world has he done now? The younger brother wondered, trying not to knock anything over. If Caroline came back and something was broken, he knew heads would roll. Hopefully only Damon's. Stefan thought, making his way farther into the room. Does that make me the bad or am I still the good brother…oh, who cares; just seeing those two fight it out is enough to brighten anyone's day. He smirked to himself as he picked up a photo album Care made for last year, which was sitting on top of the box closest to the bourbon.

That's when Damon decided to show himself, while carrying down yet another full box. "Do you have any idea why Blondie would be going to see a human doctor?" The blue-eyed devil asked as he set the box atop the one Stefan had been looking through.

"A Doctor?" asked Stefan, giving his brother a confused look that, under normal conditions, Damon would have found funny - just not now.

"Yes, a Doctor, Stefan. You know those humans, who you used to try and learn from…when you didn't turn all ripper and eat them."

Stefan wasn't looking at his know-it-all, smirking older brother, no; Caroline's date book was laying open, on top of the boxes now, last week's page was open, with the Wednesday circled in yellow and the words 'Dr. appointment 3:15pm,' Why was he even looking in her day planner? And that day… "That's the day Care said she had a meeting with the school counselor to talk about her leaving cheerleading…"

"Blondie quit cheerleading? When? Why the hell didn't anyone tell me?"

"Why would she tell you? It's not like you really care what she does with her time."

"That's not true - I care - really!" said Damon trying to look insulted but only coming off looking like an ass. "Do you think she had to turn in the uniform?"

"Damon!" He nearly jumped by his name being called, but not by his brother, who was again looking at the book and flipping a couple pages.

Caroline? Damon looked around the room to make sure he wasn't going mad, but there was no Blondie anywhere, in either the room or the house for that matter. So where did that voice come from? Still looking around the room, he started to take notice of a picture hanger by the window. It was an old one of the landscape to the property, before the boarding house was built. Caroline had always said it was a shame to build something beautiful over something that was already amazing. Damon would then have to remind her that, if they didn't, she wouldn't have her huge room, bathroom, and walk-in-closet. That usually got her to shut up about it, but over the years, whenever she needed to think and she couldn't, or wouldn't, go outside for one reason or another he, and sometimes Stefan, would often find her looking at this picture.

Now what are you trying to tell me Blondie? This bond doesn't really work like it did with Elena, but sometimes it really kicks-up a notch when you're in trouble… On that thought his eyes focused more on the painting, so much so that he started to tune whatever Stefan was saying out and let his vampire eyes and mind completely take over.

At first it was just the painting landscape – or someplace like it. Green grass everywhere, trees as tall as some buildings; dirt, the color of the many bookshelves in the boarding house…then it changed. Into a meadow, still all green with trees all around the open area, only it was dark and pouring down raining; however, it is what was going on in the meadow that called to him.

Caroline surrounded by wolves – huge wolves – she was bleeding, from her right-arm and left-leg – lots of blood – as Damon watched, he saw Caroline holding her own against four of them; so much so that it looked as if the ones gathered in a circle, around the fighting, looking equal parts stunned, worried, and scared.

Good, but why are they scared, they out number her? Getting tired of watching the fight that wouldn't end; Damon started to look around more. He had only turned for a second; when, the worse scream he had ever heard came from Caroline herself.

The darker, more aggressive of the pack, had jumped Caroline and grabbed her around the waist; it seemed its' teeth were more in her back then stomach, but the way she screamed, and her voice, you would think he was ripping her apart. Was that her voice - it sounded different somehow…? It also seemed that her scream did more than just get his attention; it caused the wolf to drop her.

Looking at the scene, Damon noticed one thing the most; there was so much blood and Caroline was completely covered in it, all over her torso and both her legs. His earlier thought, of them ripping her in half, resurfaced with a vengeance. They can't rip her apart can they?!

Then just as quickly as it had all started, everything went dark for the dark haired, blue-eyed vampire; He was back at the boarding house in the living-room looking at the boring painting again. Looking around himself he realized he must have made some noise because of the worried confused look on Stefan's face.

"You okay?"

"Y-Yeah…" came Damon's choked barely verbal reply as he searched his pockets for his phone until he remembered he had set it by the bourbon. Snatching it up he didn't waste any time before dialing Caroline's number, which rang for twenty seconds before going to voice mail. He hung up and tried again all the while walking around the living as his brother watched. Damnit pickup Blondie! It went to voice mail again and again he tried. Pickup Caroline!

Turning to Stefan his younger brother had a surprise look on his face. Damon guessed he wasn't hiding his emotions very well right now.

"Call Bonnie, now and tell her to get her judgy-ass over here. Call Ric too while you're at it."

"And while I do that you will be doing what?"

"Calling Blondie and thinking of any number of ways to kill grizzly-bear sized wolves."

If the situation wasn't so horrible right now he would have laughed at Stefan's face of utter shock.

3/3/3/3

"What's up Blondie?" Damon? Why's it so dark…and wet…Wait his back home…Oh, god I'm really hurt if I'm hallucinating him! Why can't I open my eyes? I've lost too much blood. That's it. What happens when vampires do that…I can't… remember what Stefan told me. God I feel so weak!

"You suck and that's why I covered for him."

"A werewolf bite can kill a vampire, so don't try and be his friend!" He looks a tiny bit worried and mostly pissed off.

"Noooo! Caroline!" Bella…but your supposed to be….somewhere…else….why can't I feel my legs?

"What the hell Paul! You knew she was different why do this?!" Who is that….Jacob?

"She was in Charlie's house, what did you want them to do Jake, ask her out for a date?"

"You should have called me first!"

"You weren't here! What the hell difference would it have made?" A woman? I don't know this voice…and I don't think I want too. God it hurts…my body…..someone please….make it just stop!

"Enough this isn't helping." Who? He sounds British, this is weird

"What can we do doc?" Oh god Charlie?!

"Towel, blankets and something to put over us so we can work without the rain." Carlisle! Good at least I might not die…again. Wait… He doesn't know I'm a vampire!

"I'm not leaving without him."She sees in his eyes he doesn't care about Taylor, but because of their truce he will help him….this once.

"Don't make me regret this."Oh, famous last words.

"She's lost a lot of blood… I don't know if what I'm doing is even helping. She's not like us….I just don't know." 'Not like us'…what does that mean? It's getting harder to stay conscious.

"So treat her like a human, just PLEASE do something Carlisle!" Bells, but…I….don't….understand…and why is it getting harder to breathe?

"Did you hit him?"She's asks checking on poor Matt lying on the ground.

"Did you already forget the part about the wooden bullets?"He says while walking up to her with Taylor. Damon? I wish you were here and not just in my head….I really am dying!

*The scene changes they're now in the boarding house library having the first of a long line of arguments about them.*

"There is something going on between the two of us, and you know!" He's not going to let this go.

"Alright yes, and I cover our connection with hostility because yes I hate myself for the truth. And this is not – NO – will not happen – again. It can't!"She walks away and he grabs her arms so she stays in the boarding house and not goes out into the rain.

"You sure that's what you want Blondie?" He asks with his deep husky voice, that sent severs down her and every straight girl within a five mile radius if they heard him, while staring at her lips. And it works just like every other time. Before she knows it they are kissing than she's lying on her back on his bed ripping clothes off each other.

"Edward hand me that vile in the bottom of my bag. Benjamin, I need you to put more pressure here. Alice hold this here." Benjamin? Who's Benjamin…Oh, my body hurts, who's panting? Is that me?

"Um, this one? What is in this?"

"What are you doing?!" She yells going to check on a down Taylor who had just been knotted out thanks to her sire and a vile of Wolf Bane.

"He's been sired." He says like it's the most disgusting thing in the world.

"So how do I fix him?" She asks with naiveté and confusion.

"Get a new boyfriend." He says so smug it makes her think of hitting him, and she would have it she didn't have enough to deal with right then.

"Back off, you all have done enough trouble!" Emmett….what's he doing here….how many of them are here…..seeing me like this?

"Let us help, please we didn't know."

"Even if you had that wouldn't have stopped some of you." Jasper! Good ol' Jasper.

"Get out! Lurker." She says throwing her compact at him. Aiming for his head, but hitting his shoulder.

"Ouch.Hey munchy those are not for you." He says grabbing the bag of trail mix she had been snacking on for the last five minutes. Having... trouble…..catching…..my breathe. Feel…like I'm suffocating….

"Carlisle she's having trouble breathing!" Duh, Bells. I love you so much coz.

"Calm down Bella, I'm not even sure if she needs air to breathe…." Need….No…but like …it …all the same….Wish I had thought to bring someone with me now.

"Boy drama, not that you care." She sneers as she walks to put up the cleaning supplies.

"Blondie now is not the time to be screening my calls…At least call your mother." He actually sounded a little worried - until the last part.

"What's in the needle?"

"Hopeful something that will help with closing her wounds."

"Ahhh!" screamed Caroline as she starts to thrash around on the ground trying to move away, but not able to. NO Vervain! Are you trying to help or kill me faster?! Might not help close wounds, but now I'm not thinking of any of the other pain!

"It's burning her!" You think?! God I wish Stefan or Ric were here!

"Damn It! Bella hold this here, Yes that way, I have to re-clean the wound." Are you kidding me this is almost worst then being tortured by the werewolves from home…almost. It's getting dark again…..

"Why do I always have to be Klaus bait?" Yes she knows she sounds like a little kid whining, but really?

"Cause he's obsessed with you." He says with a smug and amused look.

"She's lonely, desperate." Says it like it's the most obvious thing in the world.

"Clearly, she slept with you."She knew the moment those words left her she was going to get it later. She had been right.

"Vampire Barbie." Was that a smile on his lips?

"Damon! Towel! Knock!" Hello naked here!

"Caroline! No one cares! No!" So full of himself.

"Hey, Give me that." She says pathetically trying to reach the bottle he's now holding above her head out of reach while she lays on one of the couches in the boarding house library.

"How much have you had to drink?" He sounds almost concerned, but for the sparkle in his eyes.

"We still have clothes on here so - not nearly enough." And there was that dawn smug look of his again as she grabs that bottle and downs the rest in one gulp. As he picks her up and taking her too his bedroom.

"Jasper, Garrett I might need you to help hold her down for me." Isn't that way I can barely move?

"Why?" Guess that's Garrett.

"I have to break her leg and hip back into place." WHAT! "They've already tried to re-heal and have fused in the wrong way, I have to do it now or it will just get worse."

"Oh gods, Care…please hang on." Bells….don't cry, please. I've had worse…haven't I?

"She's strong Bella. Don't count her out just yet." Seth Clearwater? Is everyone seeing me like this?

"You? You hate me." He sounds almost amused, only this really isn't funny.

"Hate might be too strong enough of a word." Or maybe not nearly enough.

"You once said that calling me Satan was an insult to Satan." And it still is in this moment, you bastard! And the look says he can read my mind…Yeah right!

"Well nobody's perfect." Take that…wait….not again. Ah!

"Edward, Alice I need you to pump more blood into her heart and main arteries." That's what the pricking is…..

"Carlisle her back…." What about my back….. I can't feel it…what about my stomach?!

"I know I'm working on it. Once we get all the wounds bandaged up they should hopefully start to heal. Than we can move her home and I can take a better look."

"Hopefully?" Bella, I'm scared….wish mom was here, or Damon….

"Aren't we all just getting a little sick of Tyler." Smug ass.

"Look 'dungeon boy' I'm done." Love that nickname.

"This is what it's come to? You brought me love advice from Purdy Trudy."

"I can be unpredictable and incredibly reckless." He doesn't believe me.

"A) you just implied I was on your team. And 2) you just gave me that judgy little hinty voice. What am I missing?" I'm still in love with you…Oh, God, the pain!

"Damon." Is that whimpering me?

"Who's Damon?" asked Jasper holding most of her left side down. I said that out loud? You heard me?

"An ex of hers I think….Hang on Care." Bella, you know who he is. Please call him, please….i don't want to die like this!

"How long is this going to take?" He asks arms crossed looking like sex-personified and annoyed as hell.

"For a newbie witch to learn a complicated spell under massive stress…I have no idea." I sounded so good until the end!

"You and I just might be the best thing. My sexy blonde frenemy." He says lying in bed next to her naked body in his own undressed state playing with a strained of her hair.

"Damon."

Time started to not mean anything the pain was all that Caroline knew and could feel, seems the only way to get away from it was to think over her memories. Especially those of her reluctant sire seemed to help keep the pain away. So this is how it all ends...I'll never see them….him again…was her last thought as she finally succumbed to the darkness and fell into unconsciousness for good…..for now.

"No Caroline, hang on! Do you hear me? You hang on Forbes!" Bella screamed as she held her cousin's head in her lap while holding a blood bag in one hand and Caroline undamaged hand in the other. Carlisle and the others were working on getting all the wounds bandaged and pumping more bags of blood into her. They were almost out of what they brought. God I hope it's enough until we get her home. Only time would tell.

A/N:: Again sorry for the delay. Apparently setting a deadline is not for me! And this chapter did not come out how I had hoped or as long, but I figured you had waited long enough. Not sure I'm ok with how it is at the moment though.

Also this will be my last update for a while. For two reasons:

I always try to keep my stories having the same amount of chapters, but that isn't really happening. Although the next chapter for Rookie Mars is almost done.

On the 17th of April my Fiancé was hurt in a bad car accident. Thankful no one was seriously hurt. He just has only minor injuries (a second degree burn on his arm and a broken finger – would be a little funny he says if it was his middle one) considering the car was totaled. Dealing with the aftermath is going to take a while and while I LOVE to read and write fanfiction – I just really need to be with him right now.

I'M NOT GIVING UP ON MY STORIES THEY WILL BE UPDATED!

Hoping for some time in or before August – my b-day is in the middle of said month.
