A/N- I've been away a very long time but it haunted me I hadn't finished this story. I enjoy writing and I'm not the best. I've never claimed to be. If you have constructive criticism I will gladly read it but if you are just going to bash my story just move on. Find something you would rather read. I am writing for me and the few who like my stories. I really don't have time for the drama. For those of you who do enjoy the story I apologize for my long absence. I don't have a beta so I also apologize for any mistakes. For those of you who are new the prequel is called Til I see you again and I recommend you read that first. I also have a few others you might like my favorites are What the Future holds, Hot off the Presses and Inn and Out of Love. Enjoy.
BPOV-
The night was very long. I didn't sleep well my mind continuing to dredge up thoughts of Jacob. Victoria little warning had been clear. I couldn't stop thinking about the note. I tossed in and out of consciousness all night finally falling restlessly to sleep sometime after two or maybe three in the morning and even than I couldn't keep the nightmare away.
Jacob was running in human form pulling me quickly behind him. I couldn't keep up. I tripped falling over my own feet. I'm not sure why but I turned to find Victoria smiling evilly at me. I knew this was the end. She lunged but before she could get me Jacob leaped in front of me, saving me.
"Jacob" I gasped waking myself up. I took a moment to gather myself. Deep breaths in. It was only a dream. It was only a dream I repeated the mantra. I suddenly realized I had goose bumps on my arms and it wasn't only from the dream. A cool, damp breeze gently blew through my room the curtains moving slightly. The window to my bedroom cracked barely although I remembered shutting them before bed. I looked quickly around the darken room.
"Edward" I whispered but no sound or shadow answered. I got up quickly and closed the window gazing out to see if I saw anyone but nothing caught my attention. I shuddered not able to sleep again. I snuck downstairs trying not to wake Charlie and grabbed a snack and ran back upstairs of the eerily dark house. I delved through my supplies from my backpack and flipped on my desk lamp. If I couldn't sleep I might as well working on my paper. I was almost done when my alarm sounded that it was time to get ready for school.

My luck didn't hold out at school. I was so tired from not sleeping that I slept the entire lunch period in the library. I was late for English class causing me another reading assignment and the look in Edwards's eyes was dark and brooding. He was debating something heavily with himself. Not that I was paying attention. I felt his gaze on me all through class. I finally looked back and his stare almost burned me not in a hateful way in a heated way I had seen before, the way he looked the day he told me so long ago that he was tired of staying away from me. I immediately turned around uncomfortable.
I rushed out of the room the instant the bell rang and headed mistakenly to the gym. Coach Clapp was waiting.
"Ahh Bella" he smirked. "Glad you could make it today" I could feel the sarcasm. I told him about my hand and he shrugged it off. "Go change Swan" he barked. I hated gym.
"Now" Coach Clapp started uncomfortably. "Ms. Akers the new music teacher has decided that with prom coming up that you guys could benefit from some classic dance steps while also fulfilling some of our class requirements so for the next week or so we will be combining classes."
The groans outnumbered the eagerness of a few. We all knew that Coach Clapp was secretly dating Ms. Akers and would do anything she suggested to stay in her good graces. Nobody in their right mind would be dancing those old fashioned …no
My mouth bounced open at the mere audacity of it. He wouldn't. What did he have now that he had reset his classes surely it wouldn't be…but yet there he was when the class dragged in. His eyes still found me immediately. I turned away.
"Oh isn't this exciting!" Ms. Akers gushed. "Now your partners have been selected randomly and you will be with them the entire week, so no switching!" she warned.
More groans followed. Ok let's see now.
Marcy Hokes you are with Jeremiah Holmes
Angela Webber is with Ben Cheney
She went down the list pairing people I closed my eyes in agony.
Bella Swan you have been paired with… I waited.
Donald Jarvis.
I let my breath woosh out.
"Come on Bella, you don't' need your hand to dance" Coach Clapp gripped. I made my way down the bleachers unsteadily thanking the gods that I didn't get Edward. Donald Jarvis wasn't my first choice he was a freshman who transferred here last semester. A military brat;brat being the lucrative term.
"Ms. Akers, Edward spoke up quickly after I had made my way safely down the stairs. I believe Mrs. Cope told me today that Mr. Jarvis's father was transferred again last week. "He spoke suolemnly but I picked up the glint in his eye.
"Oh yes that's right." Ms. Akers frowned flipping through her papers.
"That's ok" I said hastily. "Dancing isn't really my thing and I have a hurt hand." I threw out there in hopes of getting myself out of this mess.
"Oh no dear" Ms. Akers frowned. "We will think of something" she promised.
"If I might be so bold, I would be willing to be Bella's partner given the circumstances." His face was utterly sincere but I could see the triumph in it. "She must not have hurt her hand very badly if she isn't even wearing a brace or a cast." He whispered loud enough for me to hear, his head cocked toward me a smirk on his too handsome face.
My blood boiled.
"Edward would you" she almost glowing with adoration. I know you volunteered to work the music but it would be such a huge relief.
"Of course" he assured her. "Anything to help out." He stood a smile playing on his lips as I took my stance next to him.
"I hate you" I muttered.
He covered his laughter with a cough.
We covered the basics of our first dance quickly. We would be starting with the waltz. I stood in position and Edward easily took the lead. I jerked away as an electric shock jolted through me. Edward was immediately unrest.
"Are you alright, did I hurt your hand?" he asked concerned.
"No." I uttered blankly embarrassed. I returned to my place uncomfortable. The music started and I was hoping that the uneasy feeling would pass but if anything it only grew. Edward seemed to be unaffected.
We remained silent while I focused on counting my steps. I was doing my hardest to concentrate when I felt him step lightly on my toes.
"Ouch" I mutter looking up shocked. A wide grin on his face.
"My apology" he mumbled next to my ear. Goosebumps rose on my arms and the satisfaction almost choked him.
"You did that on purpose." I mumbled angrily still trying to move with grace along the polished basketball court.
"Hmmm well I am only human. I can't make people believe I'm good at everything." He whispered low enough for only me to hear.
I gritted my teeth. He thought this was funny. I looked around at all the other "couples "they looked completely raptured in what they were doing I sighed. Ms. Akers seemed to think this meant we were having trouble and came immediately to our side.
"Dear me, you two look completely and utterly out of place." She mumbled. The Waltz is a dance of passion, of trust. You are far far too out of frame. She declared pushing us closer into each other. His smell overtook my senses. I felt Edward tighten."
"There that is better" she agreed. Now remember 1, 2, 3," and she stepped back waving her arms for us to continue.
"This is unbearable." I let out a sigh.
"I'm sorry you feel that way. I thought you enjoyed dancing with me." He muttered.
"It's not that... I'm not good at this, you know that. " I whined. "I'm not a good dancer." I tripped over my feet as the words left my mouth.
"You are doing fine" he chuckled. "I've had a very long time to practice remember. I was no better at this when I was your age either."
I was thrown off guard a little as he said this. He did not talk about human life often. I knew the memories were vague at best. I wanted to learn more.
"Did you have many chances to dance …back then I mean?" I asked.
He nodded. "My parents often held or were invited to society functions. The pitfall of being a lawyer I suppose."
"I bet you were popular with the ladies."
"I guess you could say so..." he paused for a moment. "Although I wasn't very good company I was much too preoccupied with joining the war effort. I think I may have been a disappointment to many of my admirers." He sighed.
"I think I can understand that quite clearly." I made the mistake of meeting his eyes. They held a look of sadness.
Coach Clapp broke up the group. "Alright that's enough for the day. Hit the showers."
"Thank you for the dance." I muttered
"My pleasure." He answered as we were instructed to say. Edward hesitated before finally breaking his hold.
I turned toward the rest of my class most of who were already running back to the locker room as fast as possible.
"Isabella." He asked uncertainly.
"Yes." I responded curious
"May I come over this evening?" he asked.
"I really don't think that's a good idea." I pushed.
"Please." He seemed sincere.
I let out a deep breath. I knew nothing good would come of letting him come over but when had I ever been able to deny Edward anything?
"Seven. That will give me time to get Charlie fed before he goes on patrol for the evening."
"I will be on time." He promised. I just shook my head and made my way down to the changing area.
I hadn't been home long when Jacob pulled up on his bike. It was around 4:30 and I hadn't expected him.
"Hey." I muttered trying to sound cheerful but the dread just wouldn't leave.
"Bella I've got some good news and some bad news" he motioned for me to sit on the small stoop of a porch beside him.
"What's the bad news?" I took a deep breath.
"I found tires for your truck." He grinned sheepishly. "I should have it back by the end of the week."
"That's the bad news!" A huge load lifted off my chest.
He dropped his head down and bit his lip.
"Jake."
"No Bella but I thought maybe it would make what I had to say a little easier to take."
"Jake."
"Bella don't fall apart on me ok because... I well... just remember I've got this ok we will find whoever is doing this." He promised.
"Jake "my voice was almost as quiet as a mouse.
"Ok Ok "I saw the anxiousness in his eyes. So you remember the yesterday when you called me and told me about the stupid stuffed animal"
"Yeah."
"Well see the thing is we had caught Victoria scent at like noon that day. The pack chased her all the way to almost Canada."
"So…"
"Bella" he took a deep breath. "We had her cornered. She didn't break free from us until well after midnight." He looked at me trying to make me understand.
I felt the ground shaking as the words started to sink in. "Bella." Jake stated worried. "Bella its ok." He said over and over again but I couldn't stop the tears. There were three things that were absolutely clear.
My life was in Danger, that person whoever it was wanted me dead, and it wasn't Victoria.
