CHAPTER 12: The New House

"You should really learn to read a map," Nora muttered as they sat on the plane about to land. They had almost missed their flight because Yoh apparently did not know which way was north and which way was south. If Kieli hadn't taken the map they would have never made it to the airport. At least they had managed to get on the plane with little questions and minimal stops, thanks to Nora's Jedi mind tricks.
"So where do we go after we land?" Kieli asked looking out the tiny window. Yoh pulled out a piece of paper from the envelope he stuffed into his pocket and handed it over. "That's not far from the school is it?" She asked as she read it.
"Close to Ichi's house too." Nora added looking over Kieli's shoulder. Yoh slumped in his seat ignoring their comments. Since they got on the plane he had been irritable. He hated feeling closed in, slowly going through the air, and all the waiting they had to do before they even took off. He could have traveled faster on his own.
"Why couldn't he have landed us in England or Russia? Anywhere closer would have been better than across the damn ocean." Yoh muttered for the nth time since they took off. The girls smiled and stage whispered to each other.
"I think our dear brother is afraid of planes," Kieli teased.
"Maybe he hates tight spaces." Nora put in making Kieli smirk and Yoh roll his eyes, slumping further in his seat.

This was nothing like the movies or shows. No one suddenly broke into song and dance or spontaneously ran up and started to chat away, and no one sure as hell tried to make the trio actually feel welcomed. People did however stare as the three walked through the airport. Nora tugged at her gigai, uncomfortable with the attention. Kieli, on the other hand, strutted down the hallway, not noticing (or even caring about) the attention she drew.
"Could the two of you attract any more attention?!" Yoh hissed under his breath, still annoyed with them.
"Oh lighten up Yoh. We are in Japan, far away from home and by ourselves. Live a little!" Kieli said winking at a group of boys who passed by. They smiled and waved at her and Nora, who blushed from the attention and looked away. Yoh shot the guys a murderous look making their smiles dim and quickly walk away. Kieli clicked her tongue with slight annoyance at her brother for being such a downer.
"Let's just get a cab and go home. Everything should be ready for us. We have a day to ourselves before we have to go to school." Yoh pushed open the front doors and started to hail a cab. Car after car passed the teen boy ignoring his many attempts. Yoh was about to just run into the street and let a car hit him just so they could hitch a ride. Nora looked at Kieli, who gave her a 'what do you want me to do' look, before the small teen walked up next to her brother and held up her hand. Four cars stopped. Within a minute the three were on their way to their new home.

"Thank you so much," Nora smiled sweetly to the driver. He grumbled something or other that she didn't catch and held out his hand. Nora tilted her head in confusion and lightly gave his hand a tap. She found it a bit weird that he'd want a high five...
"Funny," The driver said flatly indicating to the small girl that he didn't find it funny at all. "You owe me or I will call the cops."
"Oh, um yeah." Nora stuttered handing him what he wanted. He counted the money before pulling away from the house and out of sight.
"You didn't actually pay him, did you?" Kieli asked curiously when Nora joined her by the front door. Nora shook her head holding up a wad of cash.
"Just made him think I did, then I pulled us from his memory to make sure." Nora looked inside the open doorway. "Why are we out here?"
"Yoh wants to make sure the house is clear or something. I kind of zoned him out like usual." Kieli shrugged and leaned against the wall. She quickly surveyed the surrounding houses. There was very little space between each house so they'd have to be careful not to be too loud. The front lawn was pretty much nonexistent unless you counted the plot of dirt on either side of the walk way a lawn. To top everything off, not too far down the street stood the Kurosaki Clinic.
"Nice to know ya care," Yoh ruffled Kieli's hair as he joined the two girls. "The house is clear." He swept his hands to the door and dipped his head as though he were a servant. Kieli threw her bag over her shoulder and stepped inside.
A staircase stood in the center, splitting the living room and the dining room. Connected to the dining room by a swinging door and a low bar next to it was the kitchen. To the left of the kitchen was a cozy little room bordered by floor to ceiling windows that stopped just before the living room started. Each room was furnished with brand new appliances and furniture making the place look like it should be in a magazine, not in some neighborhood in Japan. Once done exploring ever button, switch, and drawer, Kieli headed upstairs.
Much like the boxed look the downstairs had, the top floor had a room pushed into a corner and directly lining the opposite side of a tight hallway. Fake pictures of a loving family of five hung all along the wall. She knew in order to make it look like a real home they needed family pictures, but she had no idea who the two adults were. Kieli felt a pang of emotion stir in her. She didn't know why she had been expecting Grimmjow to glare back at her from the photo but she did. Hopefully when this was all and done, she could have a family like that with her dad. Kieli shook her head to expel the thoughts and raced from door to door wanting to snag the best room for herself.
The first door to her left at the end of the hall was furnished simply, with a twin bed, a good sized computer desk, white dresser and a bed side table. Above the bed was a window that overlooked the front of the house. To the right of the room was a decent sized bathroom and next to that was the second bedroom. It was furnished the same as the first room. The last room was on the other end of the hall. It was bigger than the other two as it was the master bedroom. Though it had everything the other rooms had it also had its own bathroom and a window that had a great vantage point of their targets house.
Yoh's bag sat neatly on the bed claiming this room to be his. Kieli rolled her eyes. Of course he would want this room. Kieli ran back to the first room on the other end of the hall, throwing her bag on the bed.
"Call dibs on this room." Kieli called over her shoulder as she rifled through her bag. She pulled out a small folded picture from the bottom of her bag. It was a fuzzy, unfocused candid photo of the Espada kindly given to her by Gin. Kieli smiled and slipped the photo into a drawer, covering it up with the clothes that had made it there before her.
From somewhere down stairs a bell rang, loud and crisp. Kieli jumped from her bed and sprinted to the living room. Yoh and Nora stood next to the door, both trying to look through the window to see who was there.
Kieli heaved a sigh. She pushed the two out of the way and threw open the door only to freeze in place. Well, she wasn't expecting them to show up so soon…
