Chapter 12: Tears in the Dark

A chill.

A chilling cold wind.

That was the first thing Iris's brain registered as she regained consciousness.

'…I'm cold. W-Why…why am I-I cold?' Iris's thoughts were foggy as they drifted through her head, correction, her aching throbbing head. 'I hate the cold…I-I should b-be warm…in the stadium…yeah I-I was going to the stadium…where it's warm…the stadium….the stadium?...?!'

"The stadium!" Iris gasped, her eyes flying open having broken free from the depths of unconsciousness. "I-I was going to stadium, no I-I gotta get to the stadium! My performance I-oohhh…" Iris suddenly groaned, she had tried lifted her head but all this did was send a stinging pain shooting through her body. A pain that everything back to her foggy memory. She couldn't remember much but a few things.

She remembered a voice saying "Minncino, Thunderbolt!"

Then there was electrifying pain. Again, and again the pain raced through her, until she tears stung her eyes and black dots danced in her vison. Iris didn't know how many of the electric type attacks she endured but it was well over five. However times it actually was all three girls seemed to be having a ball torturing her. The purple haired teen could remember hearing them giggle out:

"Did we do it? Did we tame the wild beast?"

"Ah! Oh no looked she moved!"

"Well then again, Minncino, Thunderbolt!"

Those were the last thing she remembered before everything disappeared into painful darkness.

'Those three girls. Misty's mindless minions.' Iris thought in disgust as the image of the blonde that looked like an overgrown lemon, and the other two that would resembled a piece of watermelon if put together. And even though she had all rights to hate all three of them, Iris couldn't quite let her anger burn on the pink and green haired girl. 'They were so nice to me. So friendly. So caring. But it was all just a big joke! They were just pretending so they could come and stab me in the back.' Teeth bared at her own naivety to believe those two girls and their stupid act Iris could feel her eyes well up with tears.

"No, why are you crying?" Iris asked herself, shaking her head, "You have no right to cry! Not over bitches like them! All they did was beat you up and leave you all alone." This was just like back at Opelucid Academy, she cringed at the Deja Vu she felt, but she decided to brush it from her mind because at the moment Iris was in the dark.

Literally.

Iris had woken up at least three minutes ago and by that time she had expected her eyes to adjust to her surroundings, but she was wrong. The atmosphere surrounding Iris was pitch black. At first the purple haired teen thought that a blindfold had been tied around her head, but there couldn't be one if she could feel her stray tears slipping down her cheeks. The only sign of actually objects being nearby was the low humming sound, of what she could only guess as, the AC running. It would make sense since the air around Iris was rather cold, causing goose bumps to dot her bare arms and legs that were singed from the Thunderbolts that she had received.

"I gotta get out of here!" Iris said to herself with a determined nod of her head. "And as soon as I do I'm going to find Misty and whip her scrawny-GAH!"

Iris had attempted to stand to her feet, since she had been sitting upright when she had woken up, but found that she couldn't move! Something prickly and rough bound her ankles together and it was the same with her wrist and not to mention her upper body was pinned against the chair she was seated in.

"Wh-What?" Iris stammered, dumbfounded. "They tied me up?!" Squirming and fidgeting violently Iris felt panic race through her body. She wasn't an animal, but Misty and her goons had gone out of their way to ambush her, knock her out, and tie her up as if she was one! "H-Help!" Iris cried out as she found that the binds holding her were too tight for her to break free from. "Someone h-help me! P-Please!"

Again and again Iris shouted for someone to come to her rescue, but her voice was weak and strained from the screaming that the Thunderbolts wrenched out of her. It made Iris feel grateful that she wasn't singing for her performance in round three.

"…H-Help…please I-I'm trapped a-anyone please…" Iris's voice died off as she tried to catch her breath after she had went ten minutes screaming and thrashing around. She would have gone for fifteen minutes if it hadn't been that her body was drained of all it's energy and was stinging from the singed patches of skin those Minncino's Thunderbolts left all over her. Sighing in utter defeat Iris rested her head against the back of the chair she was tied up to and even though she had told herself not to Iris couldn't help but sniffle and let a fresh stream of tears fall from her eyes.

She was trapped. Location unknown. No one knew she was here and Iris knew that Misty and her group of friends were making sure it would stay that way. Overall Iris was scared, terrified even! The purple haired teen had no idea how long she had been tied up for or any sense of knowing what time it was. Hell, Iris didn't even know if Misty would come back and release her! For all she knew that red head bitch could leave her here to die!

'I don't want to stay here! I don't want to die here in the cold!' Iris thought in panic as she bit down hard on her lips to keep them for trembling but it was in vain. A sob tumbled out from between her lips as another blast of cold air filled the dark place where she was held captive, causing the tears on her face to become uncomfortably cold and a round of shivers to rack her body. Clenching her teeth against the cold Iris cursed herself for picking such a flimsy outfit to wear. But the white dressy pjs with that rose petal designed was part of her performance. 'Well what would be my performance if I ever get out of here.'

A sinking feeling filled Iris stomach as she went wide eyed. Her performance! She had worked so hard, stressed out so much, used so much paper and gave herself a headache coming up with her routine for round three. Now it seemed like all her work would go to waste or worse maybe it already had! For all she knew the Princess Unova Pageant could already be over!

"No…no…NO!" Iris cried, shaking her head violently. She wouldn't, no refused, to accepted the possibility that she had missed her chance to perform her routine. Her head dropped in despair, her long hair falling in her face; Iris didn't try to resist crying and allowed the tears to fall from her cheeks and onto her exposed legs, ignoring the burning sensation her salty tears brought to her raw singed skin. As she cried Iris couldn't help but think about her new problem. When she was informed that she was going to have to perform on stage with everyone in Unova watching, Iris couldn't deny that she was nervous as hell. But now all Iris wanted to do was put on her performance. She had worked so hard and wanted everyone in Unova to see how much beauty and talent she really had! But now that chance was stripped away from the purple haired teen. It was unfair. It was unforgivable. It was fucking infuriating! And it was all Misty's fault!

Iris wanted to scream but she had no voice to do so. All that was produce were tears of anger, and a low growl that slipped out from between her tightly clenched jaw as Iris couldn't get the image of that red head bitch out of her head. Growling angrily Iris slammed her head against the back of her chair, ignoring the dizzy pain that reverberated wildly through her skull as she squeezed her chocolaty eyes closed in anger. 'I wish Misty was blown to bits! I wish I never seen her ugly pig face! I wish I didn't enter the Princess of Unova Pageant! I wish Princess Festival Day never existed! I wish I wasn't a tomboy!' Her list of angry wishes grew and grew, as she dwelled on how much she hated the situation she was in. Until, Iris wished for one thing that stopped her burning rage dead in it's tracks. '…I-I wish Ash was here…'

One thought. Just five simple words. But who would have ever thought it would be enough to break the purple haired teen? The infuriating image of the red head monster was suddenly melted from her mind's eye and was replaced with the wonderful and calming image of that raven haired little kid. The thought of his goofy yet charming smile, those memorizing amber eyes made Iris's anger vanish, and caused a fragment of a smile to form on her trembling lips.

Iris missed Ash, despite the fact that they had only be separated for a few mere hours. But Iris wasn't focused on that, all she could think about was how good of a friend the Kanto native was to her. And even though they had only known each other for the short time they had been traveling together, Ash was the only one Iris could think off that could classified as a best friend. He wasn't off putted by her strange behavior. Instead he accepted her for who she was. He didn't care that she was wild and tomboyish, raced through trees like a wild Pokemon, swung on vines, had a rather large appetite for a girl, hell, he didn't even care that she disliked the task of putting on makeup, even though he said it made her look beautiful when she had worn some that day they went to go get back at those three snobs with the Cinncino, Lilligant, and Roserade. And ever since that magical kiss up in that tree earlier that morning, the dragon loving teen found that Ash was much more than a friend to her. He loved her, and she loved him. And after the day they spent together, before all this pageant stuff took place, Ash proved to Iris that he'd never get tired of hanging out with her.

"Ash you always find a way to make me feel better when I'm at my lowest!"

Tears trickled down Iris's face as she remembered that she had said that when they were up in that tree. 'Ash…he does always make me feel better, and I was so stupid to not ask for help with round three…if I did maybe he'd be here to help me get out of her. And to kiss me, to wipe my tears away, protect me from the cold…' A small sob escaped her, as she wished for Ash to be right beside at the moment. But it panged her to known that Ash couldn't, besides he had no idea what Misty and her goons had did to her. In fact he was expecting her to perform in the stadium…if the Princess of Unova Pageant wasn't already over.

"Oh, Ash where are you?" Her question came out weak and was nearly choked by her tears, but Iris could care less, besides it didn't matter no one was around to hear her anyway.

But then as if the universe deiced to prove her wrong a different sound drifted into the room Iris was imprisoned in. At first the sadden girl ignored it, but then her chocolaty eyes snapped open in shock as her brain registered the sound as…voices! Iris couldn't distinguish who the voices belonged to, but it didn't matter, a voice meant a person and a person meant freedom from this freezing room!

"He-Hey! Help! I-I'm tr-trapped in here! Someone h-help me!" Iris stammered out as loud as she could, trying to force down the tightening feeling in her throat. Straining her ears, Iris couldn't hear the voices anymore! Had the people left? Had they not heard her crying for help! Her heart sinking into her stomach Iris allowed her head dropped downwards and for her hair to curtain her face. All seemed lost when suddenly Iris cried out when a blinding light filled the room. "W-Who…arg…Who's th-there?" iris squinted against the light, but it too bright and she forced to turn away. But she didn't need to look because what she heard next answered her question.

"Well, well, well…lookie at what the Purrlion dragged in,"

That voice! No, that horrid voice! Turning to face the light, Iris, despite wishing that it wasn't true, went wide eyed as she was able to make out the taunting smirk and the icy blue eyes of Misty!

What does Misty have in store for Iris? Will Iris be able to get free and perform for all of Unova to see how awesome she is? Find out in the next chapter of A Different Kind Of Princess.

Okay guys, that all for this chapter. I know it was short, but I kinda slapped it together really fast after remembering that my Honors English teacher gave me like four pages of bookwork and a few other things to do! It totally ruined my Fall break, but hey that's life! But good news the next chapter will in fact be longer and more interesting and for the first time in forever, I feel really motivated and inspired to type it out! So hopefully it'll be released in a reasonable time frame! Once again thanks for everyone that kept this fanfic afloat and encouraging me to finish it! It meant a lot! XD I'll update as soon as I can!

Pinkie Promise!
