A/N: I hope you are all coming to realize that the best is yet to come! Once again, enjoy and R/R!
"Surgery? For what?" Beca asked confused. She realized she was still holding onto Chloe as before but now in a selfish way as Chloe was currently holding her upright as she tried to come to grips with what she had just heard.
"My nodes…remember when I told the Bellas about them? Well, the pain has been so awful and I decided that since my competitive singing career is pretty much over that it'd be best to just have the surgery." Chloe explained as she blinked away a few tears.
"W-When are you having it done?" Beca asked
"Monday morning." Chloe responded with a sniffle.
"It's stupid. I shouldn't be so scared..I know it's a routine procedure but I've never had surgery before."
"It's not stupid.." Beca reassured her
"I'd be nervous too. Hell, I'm nervous for you but you'll be just fine, I know it." The younger girl told her softly as she brushed Chloe's hair out of her face.
Chloe nodded in response, though Beca felt as if she hadn't really been all that convincing. She wanted to be there for Chloe though she knew it was impossible.
"Is there anything I can do for you, Chlo?" Beca asked
"…Stay with me tonight?" Chloe asked, biting her lip nervously and looking at Beca with the most pleading eyes she'd ever seen.
"Uh, yeah. Of course I will." Beca told her, hesitating slightly.
"I mean, you don't have to, but I'm just scared and Aubrey's not here. You wouldn't believe how creepy this place can be at night alone." Chloe told her with a slight laugh. An obvious attempt to lighten the mood.
"I don't mind at all Chlo. It's the least I could do. I just don't know how comforting I'll be…it's really more Aubrey's department than mine, but I'll try." Beca said
"Your presence is more comforting to me than you know, believe me." Chloe told her.
Beca realized she was still holding onto Chloe and let go, suddenly mourning the loss of contact. Chloe returned to the pile of clothes and belongings in front of her and went back to packing as before. Beca lingered, her mind focused on the intimate moment she had just shared with Chloe. Her instinct to protect and take care of Chloe had kicked in full on and it had taken Beca by surprise since she had never felt that sort of obligation to anyone before. Then, of course, it hit her that this is how it feels when you really love and care about someone. Chloe Beale would be the absolute death of her and at this moment she was more okay with it than most anything.
After Chloe finished packing, she twisted Beca's arm and convinced her to watch a movie with her. "Please? For me?" she asked. AS IF Beca could even say no to this girl, and Beca was beginning to suspect that Chloe knew that. The two of them settled onto the couch in Chloe's living room with wine, popcorn, and a cheesy romantic comedy that was begging to be mocked by Beca. Chloe wasted no time making herself comfortable, cuddling into Beca's side and insisting that movies and cuddling go hand in hand when it came to quality best friend time. Beca just rolled her eyes in response and put her arm around Chloe, smiling slightly as she realized how perfect it felt and just how well their bodies fit together.
Chloe was quickly sucked into the movie, its plots and its characters, something which Beca would normally poke fun of her for being so engrossed in but decided not to say anything as she figured Chloe's mind was better distracted by this than her upcoming surgery.
"Isn't that the cutest thing ever?" Chloe gushed, referring to the current scene of the movie. Beca had been too distracted by the thoughts that come with having Chloe Beale in your arms in the dark to even realize what was going on in the movie.
"Not really." Beca said bluntly.
"It's not realistic at all."
"Well, movies aren't always supposed to be realistic, Becs." The redhead said, glancing up at Beca.
"Then what's the point?" Beca asked, receiving an eye roll and a sigh from Chloe.
"They're supposed to be heartwarming! They teach you lessons. It's a nice escape from reality sometimes." Chloe told her
"You sound like Jesse." Beca huffed
"Well, great minds think alike." Chloe responded
Beca opened her mouth to say something, sporting her usual sarcastic grin that adorned her face right before she insulted someone, however, she was quickly cut off by Chloe.
"Don't even say it!" Chloe warned
"What? I was just going to agree with you!" Beca said in defense while feigning a mock offense.
"Yeah, right!" Chloe exclaimed.
"I know you better than you think."
"Apparently not because I was going to agree with you." Beca lied
"You're such a fuckin liar!" Chloe said, swatting her arm.
"Hey! I didn't sign up to be insulted and abused all night."
"That's actually exactly what you agreed to by staying here tonight. It was in the fine print of the contract you signed by apparently you didn't catch it." Chloe teased
"Hmm, well I guess I'll just have to have someone like Aubrey review all my negotiations from now on." Beca responded
"Suit yourself. I play fair!" Chloe defended with a giggle as she settled back into Beca and returned her gaze to the television.
The pair (well, okay, Chloe) continued to watch the movie for a few minutes in silence.
"Soo…speaking of Aubrey, how pissed is she at me?" Beca asked
"Not that I care, I'm just wondering." She quickly added. Bad asses don't care what uptight bitches think about them, but Beca decided to ask for her own amusement.
Chloe chuckled.
"She's pretty mad. You know Aubrey, she doesn't really let shit go easily, but she'll get over it. I mean she has to. For the record, I loved what you did." Chloe informed her.
"You did?" Beca asked, obviously surprised.
"Yeah…I love everything you do when it comes to music. Ace of Base and La Roux? That's pretty genius if you ask me. You have a knack for fitting things that don't make any sense together." Chloe explained.
"I like the challenge. I guess I look at it that way." Beca answered
"Not that Aubrey would ever understand it."
"That's true. Aubrey really doesn't get it. Or you. Or me and you." Chloe told her
"I suppose that's why she's so pleasant to me?" Beca guessed in amusement.
"Well yeah. And other things…" Chloe trailed off.
'Oh no.'
"Shut up, please tell me she doesn't know the details of US." Beca said, putting emphasis on the word US to stress the intricacy
"Oh she knows EVERYTHING." Chloe told her, laughing at Beca's mortified face.
"She's my best friend and roommate! How could she not know?"
"Oh, jeez!" Beca exclaimed, slamming her hand into her forehead as embarrassment overtook her.
"I guess that explains the shade she's been throwing me since day one."
"Well, that and Aubrey hates all things defiant of her world. And the attitude, of course." Chloe said matter of factly.
"Yeah, not many are fond of the Beca Mitchell tude." Beca told her
"That's a shame. I think it's cute." Chloe told her
Beca rolled her eyes. "Of course you have to use the word cute to define my bad ass demeanor, you can't ever just let me be mysterious, and it's always adorable or cute to you." Beca teased
"Because it is!" Chloe laughed
"I'm sorry but as bad ass as you look, you're like the sweetest person ever."
"I am not! Are you forgetting that I've yelled at you more times than either of us can count?" Beca said
"That's just because you're super sensitive and you won't ever admit it. Which is sweet." Chloe told her, sitting up to refill her wine glass. She gestured to Beca, offering her more which Beca violently shook her head at.
"Noooooo. Do you remember the last few times I've drank too much? I'd like to spare myself further embarrassment, thanks." The tiny DJ explained which Chloe giggled at.
"It's your fault, you're a lightweight. You need to build up a suitable tolerance, which I'm sure you will in LA." Chloe told her.
"Whatever." Beca mumbled.
"I'm not THAT sensitive." She added
"Whatever you say bad ass DJ." Chloe said teasingly as she sipped her wine casually.
When the movie finally ended Beca was ecstatic. Although she loved spending time with Chloe, she really hated her movie choices. Against Beca's pleas, Chloe was insistent that they watch another one and to ease the DJ's pain, Chloe offered to let her pick one from her collection. Beca really had no idea what to pick, she hadn't even heard of most of the movies in Chloe and Aubrey's collection and as she was thumbing through the large selection a particular title caught her eye.
"You have The Breakfast Club? Jesse left me his copy to watch over break. Is it any good?" Beca asked
"Oh so now my opinion about movies is valued?" Chloe smirked at her
"I never said it was valued, I simply just asked for your opinion. When will you learn, Beale?" Beca teased. Chloe just shook her head and chuckled in response.
"Well, I think you'd like it. As much as you hate movies, I think this one is right up your alley. Plus the music is pretty dope." Chloe told her
"I thought we agreed you weren't allowed to say dope anymore? I'm pretty sure you've killed that word with over usage." The brunette quipped as she popped the DVD into the player and made her way back to the couch, resuming her position with Chloe in her arms.
'Even if this movie sucks, this totally doesn't' Beca thought as a sly smile crept upon her face.
"What are you so smiley about DJ?" Chloe questioned as she noticed the younger girl's expression.
"Oh, uh…just that Jesse is going to be pissed that I watched this with you and not with him." Beca quickly lied.
"Mhmm." Chloe hummed in an unconvinced response.
"Doesn't he know by now that I can get you to do things he can't? For God's sake I got you to join an acapella group!"
"It totally wasn't all your influence Beale, don't go taking so much credit for that." Beca told her.
"Oh, so, me being naked and jumping in your shower had NOTHING to do with it?" She questioned
All Beca could do was blush in response to the mention of the moment.
"It's starting." Beca simply said as she cleared her throat and tried to shake the thought of Chloe being wet and naked from her head, much to her dismay.
"That's what I thought." Chloe retorted and Beca knew the ginger was sporting the same grin that she was at that very moment.
To Beca's surprise, the movie actually held her interest. Chloe had been right about the music and that's probably due to the fact that she knew Beca loved music that spanned generations, the 80's especially. The plot was basic, really. Teens serving punishment for their antics in the form of a Saturday detention, all the basic high school cliques being represented, the core of it being an anti-authority figure theme. Still as cliché as it was…Beca really could relate. It especially made her think of the Bellas and how they were all different on the outside, but they shared a love of music and possessed unique talents as well as similar personal problems. At the end of the day, they were all the same; a group of girls just trying to figure out life and be happy.
The movie, the realization, and the moment suddenly overwhelmed her. Or maybe it was the wine. Whatever it was, it had brought tears to her eyes and she tried to hide it as best as possible but she mistakenly let out a tiny sniffle that of course didn't go unnoticed by Chloe.
"Beca Mitchell are you CRYING!?" Chloe asked, tilting her head to look up at Beca. Beca quickly wiped her eyes and was thankful it was dark and Chloe couldn't actually see the tears.
"I, uh, it must be the wine. Is this chardonnay? For some reason it makes me tear up." Beca said.
'Okay that was a really lame excuse' Beca reprimanded herself.
"Oh my God! Beca Mitchell is crying! And over a MOVIE nonetheless, this is classic!" Chloe exclaimed
"Hey, shut up!" Beca said in defense as she wiped her face.
"I totally must've had something in my eye…or something."
"Pshh, yeah right. Admit it, this movie is good AND it warmed your stone cold heart!" Chloe teased
"Whatever." Beca mumbled, returning her attention to the screen as a voice was reciting a dialogue as a montage of the characters going their separate ways played.
"Why did Bender just throw his arm up in victory? He's never going to talk to any of these people again. They're going to go back to their lives and continue ignoring each other's existence, especially the ginger."
"Ah, there's the cynical Beca that I adore." Chloe teased as she began to explain. "You see, they may never talk again or even share any more moments, but for the one day in that 8-hour detention, he got her. He won over the most popular girl in the school, and she saw a different side of him that normally wouldn't be portrayed, and no one will ever know except for them. He was victorious, and he'll always remember it, hence the song. It's a classic coming of age tale, duh." She said matter of factly.
"Wow. That actually makes a lot of sense." Beca breathed in bewilderment.
'More than you'll ever know' Beca wanted to add.
Beca let out a yawn and looked down at her phone, realizing it was getting pretty late. Not for her, of course, because she was a night owl, but Chloe was leaving the following morning and surely she should be well rested for her trip. Apparently that nap hadn't done anything for Beca though because she was feeling pretty sleepy at this point.
"Did shedding all those tears make you tired, sleepyhead?" Chloe teased as she sat up. Beca fought back a pout as she yet again missed the feeling of the red head in her arms.
"Shuddup." Beca mumbled in a response, lightly swatting Chloe. The ginger held her arms out and pulled Beca up off the couch as the two headed into her room. Chloe went straight to her dresser and pulled out a pair of baggy Barden sweatpants and a black shirt with the Rolling Stones' tongue logo, tossing it lightly across the room to Beca. The DJ laughed as she looked at the sweatpants, receiving a quizzical look from Chloe.
"You know how much I love to represent this fine university." She said sarcastically as she turned and headed towards the bathroom to get ready for bed.
Normally, Beca would be pretty freaked out at the idea of sharing a bed with Chloe, what with all their assorted feelings and what not (hell, mostly hers.) But she wasn't. Partially because she had already crossed this bridge, even if she was drunk and didn't remember their sleepover. She didn't feel uncomfortable whatsoever.
When she returned, Chloe was playing around on her iTunes.
"I have to sleep with music on," The read head confessed.
"I don't sleep well otherwise. Aubrey hates it because she needs absolute quiet to fall asleep."
Beca laughed, of course Aubrey would.
"I sleep with music on too." She told the older girl
"Perfect. I'm putting your mix on." The ginger informed her. Beca smiled at this.
Chloe climbed into bed after shutting off the light and Beca got in on the opposite side of her, each girl taking a few minutes to get comfortable as a silence fell over them. Chloe rolled to her side and looked at Beca, studying the younger girl as she stared at the ceiling.
"This isn't weird…is it?" Chloe asked in a whisper.
"Not really…it actually feels….right." Beca told her.
Another short silence fell upon the two as their slowing breathing filled the room.
"Becs?" Chloe asked, again in a whisper.
"Beale?" The tiny DJ responded, turning to face Chloe.
"What are you thinking about right now?" She questioned, as if she knew the younger girl was deep in thought somehow.
"You honestly want to know?" Beca asked with a slight sigh.
"Mhmm." The ginger hummed in response.
"It just occurred to me how much you and I are like Claire and Bender from the movie. We'll always have the moments we shared at Barden, and even if nobody else knows, we do. And honestly, even if you don't want to hear this right now…the last time I was in your room will always be my favorite college memory. It will always amaze me that a misfit like myself won over someone like you." Beca confessed, not fearing the consequence of bringing up the elephant in the room because she trusted Chloe when she said that the she would always care for her no matter what she said or did.
Chloe let out a soft chuckle.
"You've really gotta stop doing that." She said
"And what's that?" Beca asked, nervously.
"Saying things that make me want to kiss you…again." Chloe responded as her gaze met the younger girl's. Even in the dark, Beca could see the boldness of Chloe's twinkling blue eyes and it took her breath away.
"So do you." Beca breathed out as she closed the gap between the two of them and softly met her lips with Chloe's.
This kiss wasn't like the last one, eager and full of passion; instead it was slow and sensual. Their lips brushing ever so slightly at first before Beca leaned into deepen it, lightly running her tongue across Chloe's lips as a request, to which her surprise, Chloe granted. Their tongues danced for dominance as Beca reached out to lightly cup the older girl's cheek in an attempt to steady herself.
As she thoroughly enjoyed the most erotic moment of her life, she couldn't help but wonder…had she finally gotten through?
