Here is a new chapter. Enjoy and please review.
The wedding day arrived too early for his liking the next morning and he knew it was inevitable. He was going to get married soon. He was happy, right? Kensi hadn't appeared since last night. The pills actually worked and now he was able to have his life back. Right? He was getting ready for the ceremony when his mind started flying back in time and memories filled his vision.
2 and ½ years ago
He knew her way too well to understand that something was troubling her lately. She was distant, avoiding eye contact at work and preferring to spend nights alone at her own home. At first he thought she needed some space, but when the same situation kept going for more than usual, he actually got worried. He didn't though have to wait long because she approached him before leaving the mission building and told him to meet her at her place in an hour. She wanted to talk. And that wasn't good. It was later when he was standing speechless that his fears confirmed.
"Something is wrong, isn't it?" he asked as they finished the pizza.
"Well…" she hesitated.
"Did I do something wrong?"
"No no"
"Then?"
"Look, Deeks…" she said and stopped.
"You know you are freaking me out, right?"
"I think we should stop being together," she blurted out.
"What?" he raised his voice.
"I want to be alone."
"Where did that come from? I am asking you again. Did I do something wrong?"
"No you didn't."
"So?"
"I don't want to be with you," she said not so convincingly.
"You can't be serious."
"Oh I am serious."
"What about what I want?"
"I don't care," she said.
"Of course you don't."
"Oh come on. It won't be the first time."
"Excuse me?"
"Don't tell me it is the first time that someone is breaking up with you."
"Well it is the first time that someone like you is breaking up with me."
"What is that suppose to mean?"
"It means someone special. Someone that means so much to me. That means everything to me."
"Wow. I didn't expect you to answer that," she said quite stunned.
"Well, I didn't expect you to end us like this. With no explanation," he said and turned away to leave. Soon his car left the parking spot. That's when she allowed herself to cry.
She appeared surprised to find him on his desk the morning after. She had just assumed that he was going to return to LAPD after the incident of the previous night. And when he smiled bitterly and asked her if she truly believed that he would leave, she just looked away. That was all the confirmation he needed to know that that was exactly what she was thinking.
It was 2 months later that his whole world came to crush. She quit. Without a single word. No goodbyes or explanations. He simply couldn't accept that. Well they weren't a couple anymore, but they were partners. And friends. She couldn't leave him like this. That thoughts brought him at her front door, waiting for her to let him in. what he saw broke his heart. Red puffy eyes, shoulders shaking from the sobs that conquered her body.
"Oh my God, Kens. What's wrong?" he said and pulled her in his arms. That's where she finally broke down and let it all out.
"Look at me Kensi. Whatever it is, I will not judge you. Whatever is wrong, I'll be here. What's wrong? Why did you quit? Am I that bad to tolerate?"
"I won't be able to work from now on. That's why I quit."
"Why?"
"I am sick," she said and started crying uncontrollably again.
"Kens, you are scaring me here, sweetheart. Talk to me," he insisted and pulled away to look into her eyes.
"I have diabetes."
"Oh"
"Yeah. It was controllable till 2 months ago," she almost whispered ashamed now that revelations were taking place.
"Two months ago? How long do you know about the diabetes?" he raised his voice as anger started building in him.
"A year"
"A year? And you couldn't tell me? You thought it would be better to keep that from me?"
"I didn't want to bother you."
"You dint want to bother me? That's ridiculous."
"It's not."
"That's why you broke up with me?"
"Two months ago, I went for my usual check up. Diabetes managed to destroy one of my kidneys. It was completely useless, but I could still go with just one. But if thing got worse, I would have to quit."
"Something got worse?"
"Two kidneys. None can do its job," she said sarcastically.
"So what now?"
"Dialysis is necessary. Every other day. Until we find a donor. I am in the list waiting for transplant."
"Why didn't you tell me?" he asked as tears formed in his eyes.
"I didn't want you to be unhappy Deeks. I wanted you to find a real girl. Someone not as messed up as me. You don't deserve this."
"I loved you Kensi. I still do if I want to be honest with myself. What makes you think that I would let you do this on your own? Or that I will let you do this alone now?"
"That was my problem. Still is. You don't have to suffer with me."
"Of course I do. You are my partner. My friend. My everything. I won't leave you again, even if you don't want to be with me. I'll help you. Till we win this," he smiled a reassuring smile and hugged her tightly."
"Deeks?"
"Yeah?"
"Come with me tomorrow at the hospital. Will you?"
'Of course I will."
"Thanks"
"Kens?"
"Yeah?"
"Don't ever do this to me again, ok?"
"Ok."
"You are a fighter. You are going to get through this."
That's how Sam found him. Crying in front of his bathroom mirror.
"Deeks are you ok?"
"Yeah yeah"
"We have to go. Or you are gonna be late."
"Yeah. Just give me a minute."
Without even knowing it, he was becoming a husband. They all seemed happy. However Sam couldn't help but notice his friend's nervous look. He was constantly looking around as if he was waiting for someone to arrive. For something to happen. After the ceremony, the all gathered in a small familiar restaurant near the beach. To celebrate. Later, the senior agent approached his friend.
"Deeks?"
"Hey"
"What are you doing here alone?"
"Just thinking."
"Are you ok?"
"Yeah"
"Ok"
"Sam? Can I ask you something?"
"Sure"
"Do you remember Kensi?"
"Of course I remember Kensi."
"Have you seen her lately?"
"What?"
"Kensi. I mean she was supposed to be here, right? If she really wanted, wouldn't she be here?" Sam just shook his head and left him with his thoughts.
He woke up early the next morning to find an empty bed and a letter joined by the known box of pills.
Morning baby,
Gone to work. Don't forget your pills.
Love you,
N
He was feeling better today. And Kensi was nowhere to be seen since Thursday. She wouldn't come back. It wouldn't hurt to avoid just this one, right? Just one pill. He wasn't going crazy. It was just a stressful day that brought her back. But maybe he could see her again, if he avoided the medicines today. Just once again. Just today, he told to himself and left the pills in the box. It was later that day. He was returning home when he saw her sitting on his front door's step. She was back. Angry. Eyes burning holes.
"Hey," he smiled. "Where have you been?"
"Where you sent me," she answered dryly and slapped him hard on the face.
