"Klaus…" Caroline said softly. She reached up to touch is face and he flinched. "Klaus I'm sorry…"
Klaus shrugged his shoulders and flashed away. Caroline watched him go. Her eyes swelled with emotions. She quickly wiped the tear that fell down her cheek. She closed her eyes and followed Marcel into the darkness.
Chapter 11
Caroline felt her stomach summersault inside of her. She followed Marcel into an abandoned church. Marcel signaled a few of his minions to leave them alone.
Caroline walked around the abandoned church it smelled of frankincense and sandalwood. She walked along the isle and stepped in front of a statue of a Madonna and her child. She placed her arms around her shoulders and gave herself a tight hug. Everything is gonna be okay Caroline repeated over and over in her head. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. She had to get to her daughter. She had to get to her before Marcel did.
"Ready Carrie…" Marcel asked as he walked closer to Caroline.
Caroline released her grip around her shoulders. She gave Marcel a quick nod.
Marcel gave Caroline his signature smile and offered his arm. Caroline frowned and shrugged away his offering. "Where is Davina?"
Marcel laughed. "This way, love…"
Caroline rolled her eyes. The one thing she didn't want to hear was love especially coming from the mouth of the devil.
Caroline followed Marcel into a winding staircase in the back of the church. She eyed the never ending staircase with doubt. Where was she being lead? Was this a trap? She jumped a bit after a large spider eased down its web. She shook her head in dismissal. "Where are you taking me?" Caroline demanded. "Marcel..?"
"Easy Carrie baby…she's here through these doors…" Marcel said as he held a wooden door open. Marcel's smile sent a cold wave down Caroline's core.
Caroline entered the room. Marcel slammed the door shut. Caroline eyed the dusty attic there were over a dozen candles of varied lengths all over the place. In the middle of the room as a four poster queen sized bed. Draped around it was a thin laced mosquito netting.
"Davina…" Caroline said as she walked around the room. "Davina its Caroline….where are you?"
In the darkness a figure came out of the shadows. A pair of hazel eyes with golden ribbons appeared out of the corner of the room. Davina's hair was longer than she remembered. It was down to her mid back. It was lighter than she remembered. Her auburn hair had streaks of red, coral, and amber. Caroline looked into her light eyes and smiled. Her eyes were so warm inviting it reminded her of him. His eyes. Caroline looked away. She saw the smug look on Marcel's face and disgust filled her. "Marcel I kept my end of the deal…I would like a word with Davina…alone." She kept her emotions in check. Her face was stone cold. She held her hands on the side of her in a tight clenched fist. She needed to be strong.
Marcel gave her a mocked bow. "As the lady wishes…Davina…Carrie…I will give you 20 minutes…"
"Make it an hour…Marcel for me…" Caroline said in her sweetest voice.
Marcel licked his lips. "Of course…"
Caroline waited for him to walk away before she flashed over and embraced her daughter. "Davina…I missed you…" Caroline closed her eyes she felt like she was home.
Caroline held her daughter for what seemed like hours. She finally pulled away reluctantly when she heard the chime of the clock near by. "Davina we don't have much time. But I needed to make sure you were okay….How is Marcel treating you…?"
Davina looked at her aunt with hesitation. "He is…he's Marcel…" She said shortly.
Caroline nodded. "Davina are you okay?"
"Yes…why?"
"You seem a little distant…that's all…"
Davina got up and lit a few candles. "It's nothing….its just Marcel has told me a few things….that…I don't know…" Davina shook her head.
"Davina what is it?" Caroline flashed in front of her. "Tell me sweetheart…"
Davina looked up and frowned slightly. "I can't it…"
"You can tell me anything…you know that…"
Davina took a deep breath. She closed her eyes and exhaled her breath.
"Davina…"
"Okay…he told me that you have formed an alliance…"
Caroline remained silent. She hoped Marcel didn't open his big fat mouth.
"He said you formed an alliance with Klaus Mikaelson. " Davina smirked.
Caroline looked at her daughters smirk and smiled. "Yes. I have."
Davina got up and started to pace." Why?"
"Davina there are a lot of things you don't know…"
"Like what?" Davina turned around slowly. She stared out of the solitary window. There were a parade of humans marching playing jazz on Bourbon Street.
"He and I have a past Davina that I can't go into right now…" Caroline said as she grabbed Davina's hands.
Davina bit her lip. " I see…"
"Davina…I will tell you everything sweetheart its just not right now…"
Caroline pleaded.
Davina frowned. "Auntie Caroline tell me me the truth…is it true…"
Caroline closed her eyes. "What did he tell you.." Caroline said almost in a whisper.
"He said my mother is alive…"
Caroline swallowed the lump on her throat. "She is."
"You lied to me…"
"Davina I am so sorry…" Caroline said with tears in her eyes.
"Where is she?" Davina demanded. She raised her arms in the air. "Where is she?"
"Davina…" Caroline closed her eyes.
"Caroline…please where is she..I miss her…" Davina said as she kneeled in front of Caroline. She held Caroline's hands. She leaned in and place her forehead on Caroline's hands.
"She misses you too…" Caroline said softly.
"Marcel told me she closer than I know…" Davina said.
Caroline looked up. "I'm sure he did…what does he want in exchange for that information. ?" Caroline said as she raised an eyebrow.
"He wants me to perform a simple spell…"
"Oh really…what spell…"
"He wants me to…perform a spell that will kill an original.." Davina said as she lowered her eyes.
"Davina…please don't do this…please…"
"Why…he' s evil…he wants to kill Marcel and be in charge he doesn't care about anybody else but himself…" Davina said as she got up closely. She crossed her arms over her chest.
Caroline closed her eyes. "Davina…"
"No…Caroline…tell me the truth…"
"Okay…but just let me explain please…?"
"Okay…"
"I..I'm your …"
"Times up…Carrie…" Marcel said as he flashed into the room.
Caroline ignored Marcel. "Davina…please don't do this…please for me…"
Davina rolled her eyes. She looked into her flame of a candle. She waved her hand over it. It danced as she waved her hand over it.
"Caroline…I am tired of people lying to me…"
"I know sweetheart but I never lie to you at least not intentionally…."
"Caroline…please…"
"Davina he isn't what you think…he's more important than you know…" Caroline closed her eyes and bit her lip. "Really…?"
Caroline said as she looked at Marcel's untrustworthy smile.
"Auntie Care…I know that you've been there for me but I can't ignore what's is in front of me…"Davina said as she looked at the smug look on Marcel's face.
"Looks can be deceiving…" Caroline said as she rolled her eyes.
"Carrie I think Its time you told…Davina the truth…." Marcel said.
"Oh really..what would you know of the truth…" Caroline snapped.
Marcel laughed. " I know a lot of things especially a lot of secrets…"
"Davina don't listen to him please…he hates the originals…"
"Is that such a bad thing…"
"Davina…"
"Well is it…?"
"Davina…he is more than what he seems he's …"
"What? Why do you keep defending him?"
"He's …he's your…" Caroline said.
"My what?" Davina demanded.
"He's your enemy…Davina…" Marcel said grinning at the blond vampire.
"No he's not…" Caroline tried to say.
"What?" Davina asked she walked closer to her aunt.
"Just please take your time….please just don't do anything you"ll regret…"
"Like kill him…he's the enemy Caroline…he killed so many witches he's the reason why we have to hide…"
"Davina…there's a lot you don't know…"
" Carrie just because you have some sick relationship with the hybrid doesn't mean he gets a free pass…" Marcel said interjecting.
"A free pass…if the witches have been persecuted it was under your reign…not his…" Caroline yelled at the arrogant vampire.
"Is that true Marcel…" Davina said in a hush.
Marcel grinned. He walked slowly towards Davina. "Davina…when have I ever lied to you…I have always tried to protect you..."
Davina lowered her eyes. She massaged the migraine that was beginning. She started to pace around the room.
"You can't be serious Marcellus…when have you ever told the truth…" Caroline shrieked.
Marcel nodded. "Fine…maybe I should start….Davina Caroline is your mother…." Marcel said as he raised his hands in the air.
Davina lifted her head as slow as possible. She looked at the smirk on Marcel's face and the shock on Caroline's face. "Is that true?" Davina said in a whisper stopping cold in her tracks.
Caroline bit her lip. She closed her eyes and exhaled. She walked closer to Davina and tried to grab her hands. Davina jerked away from her grip. "Yes…its true…" Caroline's eyes swelled with tears.
Davina stepped back. "You lied to me…you lied…"
"Sweetheart it was for your own good…" Caroline said as tears were falling down her face.
"My own good…I mourned you…I…" Davina covered her mouth with her hand.
"Davina…I had to protect you…I didn't know what else to do…" Caroline said.
"Protect me…you lied to me…for what…"
"I had to protect you…please believe me…"
"Protect me for what?"
"From people trying use you for their own personal gains…" Caroline said through her teeth as she glared at Marcellus.
"Hey don't shoot the messenger…" Marcel said as he shrugged his shoulders.
"Davina…all I ever done was try to love and protect you…as best as I could…I know I've made a lot of mistakes but please believe me it was for your own good…"
"Lying to me all my life…get out…" Davina yelled.
"Davina…please…" Caroline cried out.
"I said get out!" Davina yelled louder. She raised her hands in the air . A large cyclone appeared moving towards Caroline. Caroline flew back onto the wooden door hitting her head. She groaned. "Davina…" The wind started to carry her out of the room. Caroline tried to grab the door but the wind was too strong. The door flew off its hinges. "Davina…please don't do this…" Davina was filled with rage. The last person that she ever expected to lie to her was Caroline. Caroline was always there for her. She was there when she couldn't sleep because she had nightmares of her mother's death. She was there when she went to school. She was there for her when she was sick. She was the one that she could always talked to. Why would she lie to me? Why would she take away the only hope she has? Why would she take away the promise of having a mother away from her? How could she betray her so?
All the questions in her head were starting to strangulate her. She dropped her hands before Caroline was whisked away.
Caroline got up and flashed nexted to her daughter. " I am so sorry Davina…I never meant to hurt you…"
"But you did…get out I don't want to see you again." Davina said as she turned around and walked deep into the attic.
Caroline felt her lower lip start to tremble. "Fine…I'll leave for now. I'm not going away Davina….your my daughter nothing can change that…" Caroline flashed away before Davina could protest.
Klaus flashed out of the bayou with a fire that was burning him from the inside out. He ran through the swamp with a fierce rage that was blinding him. He was betrayed by the one person he loved the most. She betrayed him in the most heinous of ways. She had stolen the most vital piece of him, his blood. He stormed into his plantation home ignoring the puzzled looks coming from his brother and his sister.
"Nik…" Rebekah said.
"Niklaus…" Elijah interjected.
"What crawled up his arse?" Rebekah said shaking her head.
"Was that Klaus?" Stefan said as he walked into the plantation house.
Klaus flashed into his study and slammed the doors closed. He threw his black jacket on the coach. He walked over to his unfinished piece and started to finish the sketch. He filled his piece with a broad spectrum of black, grays, and silver.
"Niklaus what ever is the matter?"
Klaus rolled his eyes. "Elijah…"
"Niklaus what is the matter?" Elijah said as he sat on the sofa next to his brother.
"Elijah what is it you need… I have no time for your insipid questions. " Klaus said as he darken his strokes.
"Niklaus…my sources have found there is a new faction of werewolves in the bayou…"
Klaus stopped painting for a moment. He clenched his teeth.
"Have they made their intentions known?"
"Not as of late…but they are growing in numbers."
"I see." Klaus placed the paintbrush down and turned around to face his brother. "Has their alpha emerged?"
"No. Have you asked Marcellus maybe he has some ideas? "
"Marcellus…we need to eliminate him as soon as possible."
"I thought Mrs. Gerald had a plan for that." Elijah said as he unbuckled his suit jacket.
"Caroline…" Klaus said in a growl. He flashed over to the back wall and grabbed a bottle of scotch and two glasses. Klaus poured two glasses and handed one to his brother.
"Has your faith in her alliance faltered?" Elijah said eagerly.
Klaus laughed slightly. "No she is as she always was." Klaus took a gulp of his drink. She betrayed him yet again. But this time she will not get away with it. No matter what it cost him.
"Niklaus, I'm going to have Marcel followed. He has been having a few too many secret meetings."
"Agreed. " He walked over and refilled his empty glass. "Have you spoken to Sophie Deveraux…has she told you anything about the timeline with Kol?"
"We have a meeting tonight." Elijah said.
Klaus held his glass in his hands. "Good. The next full moon will be in a few days…make sure Sophie keeps her end of the bargain. "
"And what of Mrs. Gerald?"
"I'll deal with Caroline. " Klaus said as he slammed his glass in the end table next to the couch. "What time do you have to meet Sophie?"
Elijah got up. " At 11pm." Elijah eyed his brother with curiosity. "Niklaus I heard what happen. I am sorry things worked out the way they did. If you want me to handle things I can, brother."
Klaus clenched his teeth. "What pray tell are you babbling about?"
"Brother my informant told me she stole your blood and gave it to her husband."
Klaus remained silent.
"What more proof do you want? She is not to be trusted."
Klaus frowned looking at his brother very closely. "I will deal with her transgressions in my way..." He barked.
"Brother…?" Elijah asked baffled.
Klaus got up and walked towards the massive stainless window. The night sky was bright compared to the darkness he felt. His heart felt heavy. She had to pay for her sins but could he love her and punish her? This woman was becoming his undoing. She was shattering every wall he built since she was gone.
"Niklaus, I am afraid you are too close to this girl. She betrayed you what is there to do she must be dealt with and quickly. If you can not brother I will. Our position here is volatile at best we can not be weak. We have to be strong and united."
Klaus turned around slowly. His anger starting to flare. "What?"
"I will deal with Miss Gerald if you can not. I know you care for her. The pain you feel for this girl has clouded your judgment. I understand brother." Elijah said firmly.
Klaus remained silent. His smirk firmly placed on his face. "I am sure you lament my pain brother but you know me better than that. I have no heart nor do I have patience for your misplaced self righteousness. Until our brother Kol is resurrected as planned we will continue our alliance. After he is here I will kill Caroline myself. Is that understood?"
"Niklaus…"
"I'll meet you at the cemetery later. I have a few things I need to take care of." Klaus said as he grabbed his coat.
Elijah nodded and flashed out of the art studio.
Caroline stared at the old church for what seemed like forever. Her daughter hated her. Her heart felt like it was shattered into a billion pieces. She had to continue with her plan. She needed her daughter safe even if she didn't want anything to do with her. She needed to give her daughter a better life a life free from war.
"Marcel your affection for this girl is starting to become a problem."
"Not one hair on her head will be harmed until she solves her problem. "
Caroline flashed behind the building. Marcel. He was planning something. Caroline listened in carefully.
"But she's dangerous...you know her loyalty is in question."
"Thierry…I gave you an order…" Marcel yelled.
"What about Klaus…?"
"Don't worry Davina will take care of him…"
"How can you be sure? You know Caroline won't allow that..."
"I made sure Davina saw a different part of Caroline…" Marcel said as he grinned.
"What side is that?"
"The untrustworthy one…."
Caroline leaned on the wall. She closed her eyes. Damn him. She waited a few seconds before she flashed away. She needed to stop Marcel if it was the last thing she did.
Caroline flashed away never looking back. She ran until her legs wanted to give out. She stopped midway walking slowly until she reached a small clearing in the bayou.
"Angel what are you doing here?"
Caroline turned around and smiled. "Nikoli…what are you doing here?" She said softly his beautiful gray eyes always harmed her heart.
Nikoli walked forward. He grabbed Caroline's hands. He gave them a quick kiss. "I'm visiting a friend what's up?"
Caroline smiled. "Nothing…"
"Angel what's going on…?"
Caroline felt her eyes start to swell. "Everything is so fucked up….no matter what I do…no matter how hard I try things keep getting fucked up…"
Nikoli walked closer to Caroline. "What's going on?"
"I…I've tried to fix things but it just keeps getting worse…"
"But what could you of possibly done wrong…?" Nikoli said as he leaned closer to Caroline.
Caroline felt her bottom lip start to twitch. " I…I lied to my daughter…"
"You have a daughter?" Nikoli said as he raised an eyebrow.
"Yes, Davina is my daughter."
"Wow…but your a vampire…how is that possible?"
"It's a long story…" Caroline said as she shook her head. "I…have to go…" Caroline said as she started to walk away.
Nikoli flashed in front of her. "Angel…talk to me please…" He said as he caressed the side of her face with his knuckles.
Caroline closed her eyes. "I told Davina that I was her aunt…to protect her and now Marcel told her the truth…"
"What truth is that?"
"I'm her mother...now she hates me…she doesn't trust me…" Caroline said softly.
Nikoli wrapped his arms around Caroline in a tight embrace. Caroline sighed. It was a long time since she felt safe. "Oh, Nik…I'm so glad your here…" Caroline said softly.
Nikoli stroked her back softly back and forth. "Sh…everything is going to be okay…"
"Nik…how can you say that? Everything is so messed up…"
"I know it seems like that now but trust me we'll make it better…"
"How…" Caroline said as she tried not to choke on her tears.
"I know of a group of werewolves that would love to take down Marcel…and his merry band. "
Caroline looked up at his smoldering gray eyes. "Nikoli I don't want to drag you into his mess…its not fair you have always been there for me…I can't put you through that…"
"Angel…I would do anything for you…" He said as he leaned in and kissed her.
In the darkness a pair of yellow eyes cringed at the sight of two would be lovers caught in an embrace.
