Caroline looked up at his smoldering gray eyes. "Nikoli I don't want to drag you into his mess…its not fair you have always been there for me…I can't put you through that…"
"Angel…I would do anything for you…" He said as he leaned in and kissed her.
In the darkness a pair of yellow eyes cringed at the sight of two would be lovers caught in an embrace.
Chapter 12
Caroline opened her was going on? Nikoli was kissing her. Her friend was kissing her. She took a step back and put her hands on the hybrid's chest. "Nikoli…I…" Caroline lowered her eyes. She felt a cold chill going down her spine.
Nikoli looked at her lowered eyes. He nodded his head. He lowered his hands slowly. "Angel…I…"
Caroline gave him a very forced smile. "Nikoli…you are one of my closest and dearest friends…I just can't right now…"
Nikoli put his hand up in surrender. " Angel…its okay…I get it. You are still not over him."
Caroline started to pace. "Nikoli…I…"
"Angel…" Nikoli took a step forward and grabbed both of her hands. He put her hands together and kissed the top of her knuckles. "I will always be there for you…your my family.."
Caroline felt her eyes swell with tears. She pulled her hands away from his. " I don't deserve you…"
Nikoli chuckled. "Its true…" He said grinning at the blond.
Caroline rolled her eyes. She gave him a quick jab in the right shoulder. "Ass…" She smiled.
Nikoli smirked. He crossed his arms over his chest.
Buzz…buzz…buzz…
Nikoli reached in his pocket and looked at his messages.
Meet me in 20 at the usual stop. I have what you are looking for… for a price. M.
Nikoli grinned. He quickly put the phone away.
"Good news?" Caroline inquired.
"Indeed." Nikoli said. "An informant just gave me some excellent news.."
Caroline nodded. She saw a pair of yellow eyes in the distance. "Really.." She said as she turned her head slightly to get a better view.
Nikoli smirked from ear to ear. "I have to go…Angel…" He said before he flashed away.
Caroline waited for Nikoli to go before she walked towards the pair of yellow eyes. Caroline reached in the side of her left boot and grabbed a velvet pouch. She listened carefully scanning the perimeter. "I know your there…don't be shy…"
Caroline waited for the figure to appear. The hair behind her neck stood on end. She held on to the pouch tight ready for a possible attack. She had to defend herself. She just hoped there was only one not a whole pack.
The figure slowly approached her emerging from the darkness. Caroline held her breath in anticipation.
"Hello…love…"
Caroline slumped her shoulders. She exhaled her breath. "Klaus…"
Klaus walked closer to her wearing his signature smirk. His face was hard almost unreadable. Caroline signed inside. There was something bothering him, the coldness of his stare told her so.
Klaus examined her closely. She was holding smoothing in her hands. He used his hybrid senses. "Wolfsbane?"
Caroline raised an eyebrow. "How did you…?" She closed her eyes for a second. "Of course…hybrid senses…"
Klaus smiled. He put his hands behind his back.
"I…I sensed a werewolf…" She said as she put the pouch back in her boot.
"Should I be worried?"
Caroline bit her bottom lip. "No…should I?" She said as she raised her head up high.
Klaus flashed over. He was inches away from her face. He heard her heart start to pound faster and faster. He raised his hand and brushed his knuckles over her left cheek slowly. He stopped when he reached the side of her mouth. His golden eyes glimmered. Caroline followed his hands with her eyes. He lowered his hands and caressed the ridge of her neck. She opened her eyes a little wider now. She swallowed the knot in her throat. He tighten his grip around her neck.
"Klaus…" She tried as the air was starting to fanish from her chest.
Klaus turned his head to the side slightly looking in wonder in her face.
"Klaus…please…I know I hurt you but you…you don't understand. "
Klaus tighten his grip. His golden eyes shining brighter and brighter.
"Tell me then sweetheart…"
"I…had to do it…Marcel was going to kill her….I didn't have a choice..."
Klaus narrowed his eyes. "You always have a choice…"
"Klaus please…Marcel is planning on using Davina to kill you…" Caroline whispered. "I…didn't know…please…"
Klaus released his grip around her neck. He smirked darkly. "Then she has to go…"
Caroline took a step back. Her eyes opened wide. " No…no…Klaus…"
Klaus took a step forward. "She has to die Caroline…"
"Klaus…I swear to all that is holy….if you touch my daughter I will kill you…."
Klaus grinned at the anger in her voice. "I'd like to see you try…" He said softly.
Caroline tighten her fists on the side of her agitated frame. Caroline flashed forward using her vampire strength she tightened her fist and punched him square in the face.
Klaus stumbled back. His eyes opened wide. Caroline had attacked him. He felt his blood start to drip from his busted lip. He wiped the blood from his chin. "You shouldn't of done that love…" He flashed forward and grabbed her by the neck. His fangs started to ascend. His eyes became bright gold. Fear was creeping into Caroline face. His hands tighten around her neck. Caroline tried to yell but his grip was strangling her vocal tried to break through her imprisonment in vain. He held her closer to his skin almost touching his chest. She would of enjoyed his touch if not for the coldness in her eyes. "Klaus…do not do anything you'll regret…" She said through clenched teeth.
Klaus leaned in close to her left ear. " Don't test me love."
Caroline felt like the wind was knocked out of her. She turned her head towards him. The emptiness in his eyes was unrecognizable. "If you kill me than you will never see your brother again."
"How can I trust that you will keep your word when you just attacked me…"
"I will do more to you if you put on even one finger on Davina…"
Klaus scraped the edge of his fangs along her delicate collarbone. Caroline bit her lip stopping her from screaming out in fear. "Your lucky I still need you alive…keep your word love don't make me regret the kindness I have given you once again…"
She shrugged from his iron grip with all the strength she could muster. "Fine…just keep your end of the bargain Mikaelson you don't want me as an enemy…" She said as she strutted off.
Klaus chuckled as he watched her walk away. "If that's how you want it."
Caroline stopped midway. She slowly turned around and narrowed her eyes. He was toying with her. This was a game to him. He hadn't change. Not one bit. She shook her head. "This is a game to you isn't it…"
Klaus remained silent. The smile on his face slowly faded. "Is that what you think love?" He said as he walked over to her slowly.
Caroline kept her head raised up nice and high. She bit the bottom of her lip. "When did you become so heartless…" She said as she turned her face away from his piercing blue eyes.
" Heartless…of course…you betray me…you steal my blood siding with Marcellus and I am heartless…I'm the monster…"
Caroline saw the hurt in his eyes and regretted her words instantly. "Klaus…"
Klaus clenched his jaw. "I will not be swayed Caroline…you are alive because I have shown you mercy."
Caroline stepped forward and put her hands on her hips. "And why is that Niklaus Mikaelson? Why is it that you showed me mercy?"
Klaus smirked at the look of defiance on her face. She was enchanting. The fire inside of her was intoxicating even when its venom was aimed at him. "I showed you mercy because of our pact…I need you alive so I can have Kol back…"
Caroline snickered. "Is that the only reason?" Caroline asked feeling hopeful. Her eyes were pleading for an answer. The answer to her hearts deepest secret. "Klaus…"
"Caroline…I showed you mercy because of our past. But my mercy only goes so far…"
"How generous of you…" She said rolling her eyes. "Your a real prince you know that…"
Klaus grinned. "If it makes you happy to believe that…so be it."
Caroline rolled her eyes and gave him an exaggerated bow. "As his royal highness demands…" She smiled as his eyes were filled with mirth. Caroline started to walk away and stopped. She turned around slowly. "Klaus…"
"Yes, sweetheart…"
"You showed me mercy because you care about me more than you are willing to admit…"
"Is that right…"
"Yes…yes it is…"
"I don't have a heart Caroline nor do I feel. How can I care? "
"I don't believe that…not for a second."
Klaus flashed in front of her. "How could you be so sure…?"
"Because you gave me your heart a long time ago…" Caroline said as she leaned in and brushed her lips on his cheek.
Klaus closed his eyes as he felt her silken lips tickle the side of his face. He opened his eyes and watched her walk away. Klaus raised his hand on the side of his cheek. Her kiss scorched his face. He lowered his hand and shook his head. His fingers almost tingled.
Diego was siting in Gloria's siting in the bar with a glass of bourbon. He took a healthy gulp and signaled the bartender for another. A short brunette with dark brown eyes walked over refilling Diego's drink. "Do you want anything else darling..?"
Diego brought his glass to his lips. He raised it and shook his head. "No darling…" He winked giving her a long loving stare. The brunette laughed shaking her head at his flirtation.
"Diego just the man I wanted to see…"
Diego smirked looking in the face of the eldest original. "Elijah, what can I do for you?" He smiled through clenched teeth.
Elijah found an empty stool and pulled it next to him. He signaled the bartender and order an drink. "Niklaus was attacked last night a few of your men stole some of blood do you know anything about that?"
Diego slammed the glass on the bar. "I have no idea what your talking about…"
Elijah turned and looked at the vampire slowly up and down. "Really?"
Diego took out his wallet and threw a few dollars on the bar. "I don't have to answer any of your questions?"
Elijah finished his drink and placed it on the bar. He flashed over and sank his hands inside of Diego's chest.
"What the …" Diego yelled. He tried to release his grip on his heart. Elijah just squeezed harder.
"Now…why did Marcel need Niklaus blood?"
Diego felt the air start to leave his lungs. His head was starting to feel fuzzy. "I don't have to tell you anything…"
Elijah raised an eyebrow. "I admire your loyalty but will it guarantee your life?"
Diego looked up. "What?"
Elijah sank his hands deep into his chest. He wrapped his hands around the slow beating heart. Elijah gave the bloody organ another squeeze. Blood started dripping from Elijah's fingers. Diego's hands tightened around the originals hands he needed to get the original away from his heart.
"Why did he need my brother's blood?"
Diego opened his mouth and closed it again. "He..he's planning on finding a way of killing the originals…." Diego said in between breaths.
"How?" Elijah said as he tightened his grasp around the bloody heart giving it a little tug.
"Davina…" Diego said as he laughed hysterically.
Elijah looked at the laughing vampire and grinned. "Not if she's dead." Elijah said as he pulled the heart out of his chest. He dropped the useless organ as he wiped his dirty hands with a handkerchief.
"Now…now Elijah you know its against my rules to kill anyone…"
"Marcel…" Elijah said putting the bloody handkerchief away. "I don't really care for your rules. "
Marcel raised his hands and signaled a few of his guys. A group of vampires came in snarling at the original. " If you plan on staying in my town you will learn to…" Marcel snapped his finger and gave the original a deadly grin.
In a flash Elijah was surrounded with vampires. His arms were secured and held by two of Marcel's men. Elijah turned his head from side to side. He smiled and pulled his arms free from their grip. The vampire flashed forward charging towards Elijah. Elijah smiled. He raised his hands forward and grabbed the charging vampires hearts. The dead vampire fell on the floor with a thump.
Another group of vampires came charging in and one by one they were eliminated. Blood and pieces of hearts filled the wooden floor underneath them.
Marcel smirked at the arrogance of the original. He raised his hand and made his minion army to pause. "I'll give you one more chance to surrender. "
Elijah raised his lips in a curt smiled. "Surrender. Never."
Marcel raised his eyebrow and shrugged his shoulders. "So be it."
Elijah started to walk over to Marcel. Pulling out his heart was the only thing that could satisfy him. He stopped falling down on his knees. He held his head feeling a million sticks of dynamite exploding inside of his cranium. Elijah looked up and saw her. A young woman with ash burn hair. She was raising her hands in front of him. Her eyes had flickers of gold just like Niklaus.
Marcel smiled nodding at the young witch. "Thank you Davina…."
"I am not doing this for you Marcel…" Davina said rolling her eyes.
"Of course not sweetheart…" Marcel said smugly. "But you will obey…"
Davina lowered her hands. "Don't threatened me Marcel."
Marcel grinned. "Don't give me a reason to sweetheart. You have more to lose than I do…"
Davina rolled her eyes. She started to chant. Elijah started to walk closer and stopped. His legs became frozen. He tried to move but could not. He looked at the witch carefully. He memorized her face. She was working for Marcel but could her loyalty be altered. Could he use this to his advantage?
Marcel flashes behind Elijah and gave his neck a sinister twist. Elijah fell on the ground leaving Marcel smiling like a child. "Take him into the church…"
Two vampires came and dragged Elijah's unconscious body into St. Anne's.
