Chapter 8: Videl's Ambition

Jet and Gohan arrived just in the nick of time. They had seven minutes until the first bell rang and they had to get to Trigonometry class. But, even with that much time, they still were sidetracked by the thoughts of the villain they had just fought. He wasn't normal, and neither was his power increase.

His technique was similar to the Kaioken or a Super Saiyan, but his skin changed colors and so did his eyes. It was very strange. No other race, besides Bojack's, had the ability that came close to the Super Saiyan transformation…yet they just witnessed someone else with a similar ability.

"Come on, Jet!" Gohan said as he dashed down the halls as the bell clicked by, nearing the seven o'clock mark. "We're almost late!"

Jet's demeanor turned from thoughtful to wide eyed, "Oh! Go!"

They had ten seconds left when they finally reached their class and they walked in. They quickly found their seats just as the bell rang. Jet sighed and leaned back in his chair, slowing his quickening heart rate. He and Gohan had fought the baddest of the bad, but here they were about being afraid of missing the first part of class.

How the times can change.

"How nice of you to join us, Gohan and Jet." Mr. Faultic said as he waved a wrinkling hand in their direction, "Any second later and I would've had to count you tardy. That wouldn't look good for some boys like you who have a bright future ahead of you."

Jet gave a slight nod, "Sorry Mr. Faultic, it won't happen again."

Gohan nodded to that claim, "Yeah, we just had a little bit of an altercation near home, but we're fine now. Sorry."

Mr. Faultic gave a slight smile, "It's quite alright, now we'll begin today's lesson with advanced radicals signed in by negative numbers signed with a radicand."

Jet sighed and looked over to Gohan, "That was too close."

"Yeah, I know." Gohan whispered back, "But, we made it."

"What took you two so long?" Videl leaned over slightly, staring into Gohan's eyes, almost as if she was trying to melt him with hers.

Gohan returned her gaze, but felt panic well up inside of him. What was his excuse? He didn't have one! He couldn't just say that he was one of the Gold Fighters and that he saved her life half an hour ago!

"We were caught up in that mess downtown." Jet said in a heartbeat, "We, uh, thought there was a bomb or something, so we took the really long way to the school."

Sharpner stared at them, then smirked, "See, I told you they were wimps."

Videl ignored him and turned to Jet, "But, I was down there too. In fact, one of them saved my life." This got Erasa's full attention. Videl continued, "I didn't see you two and I was one of the first on the scene."

Jet paled, "Uh, don't have a comment for that one. Maybe we got there before you did?"

"No," Videl frowned, "you couldn't have."

"Well, we did." Jet tried, more forcefully, letting his more brash side show. He didn't care if his best friend liked Videl, she had no right to disrespect a Saiyan. Oh, dang. I think I'm starting to think like Vegeta! "But, we got out of there pretty fast."

Videl was about to say something else, but Erasa beat her to it. She grabbed Videl's shoulders and then hugged her tight, "You almost died, Videl! Oh my god! Oh my god! Are you ok! Holy crap you almost died!"

"But I didn't." That was Videl's response that came out muffled. After a minute of trying to get free, Videl finally pried herself away from Erasa's vice like grip. That's when she noticed Jet and Gohan's busted lips. "Hey, how'd you get those?"

Jet raised an eyebrow, "Huh?"

Gohan tilted his head, "Get what?"

Videl pointed to his mouth, "Your face. Your lips are busted. Like someone hit you. I saw the Golden Warriors get hit in the face too, right where you got hit. Anything to say about that?"

Crap, got to think of something. Jet thought, then gave a wobbling smile, "Well, you see…me and Gohan were sparring yesterday and things got out of hand pretty fast."

"Is that so?" Videl fixed them with one of her glares.

Gohan nodded, "Yeah, that's what we did. We were sparring, heh, heh."

"You're acting strange, Gohan." Videl let suspicious creep into her voice, "What are you hiding?"

Gohan made a gulping sound and smiled weakly, "Nothing. I'm hiding nothing." He then shoved his face back into his text book.

Jet looked over next to him and saw Saiya's vacant seat. He frowned. She's not here?

"So, you study martial arts, Jet, Gohan?" Videl asked.

Gohan looked up, "Yeah, been doing that for years."

Jet laid a hand on Gohan's shoulder and gave a thumbs up, "Many years. And we've just gotten stronger and stronger since."

"So…you wouldn't deny me a sparring match if I asked, huh Jet?" Videl said, giving him her best glare. "I already fought Gohan. I want to fight you next."

Jet stared at her for a minute, "With me?"

Videl nodded, "Yes, with you. I know you're strong. Stronger than you let on. I could tell from the match you did with that girl, Saiya. I want to test just how good you are."

Jet thought this over. If I say no, she'll get suspicious of why. If I say yes, I risk letting out more of my strength. This girl already pushes my buttons sometimes, I don't want to snap and accidentally show anything. Especially Super Saiyan. "…Maybe, Videl."

"Maybe?" Videl repeated.

Erasa looked at Jet, blinking her long eyelashes in confusion, "You said maybe, right? I know Videl is really, really strong, but I think that you could come close to giving her a good fight."

If only you knew, Erasa. Gohan thought, then spoke, "Uh, can we talk about this at lunch."

"No, we need to discuss this now." Videl almost growled.

Jet frowned, "I think Gohan's right. This isn't the time. I'm going back to work." He turned to his paper and started to right down the linear equations in quadratic form. Stuff he learned when he was four years old. Gohan followed suit and returned to his work, leaving Videl waiting for an answer.

"Hyaa!"

Jet swallowed the large portion of food he had in his mouth as he heard someone yell. He merely turned his head, only to see Videl coming through the air at him. Her leg was poised outward, so obviously it was a kick.

Jet frowned and blocked the hit with his arm, barely feeling the prickle on his skin that the hit dealt him. He picked up a bowl of rice with one hand and deflected another kick with the other. He rolled his eyes as her attacks came faster.

How am I going to eat if she insists on fighting? He thought sourly. Guess I'll show a little power.

As the next hit came, he grabbed her foot and tossed her backwards. Shockingly to him, Videl stuck her landing and did a flip to regain her bearings. She smirked at him and tightened her gloves, pulling the leather material further down and twisting the straps.

"Come on, Jet." Videl taunted, "That can't be all you can do."

Jet swallowed the rice whole and stood up, wiping his face, "No, it's not."

Gohan ate away beside him, barely registering the challenge that Videl had just proposed. He knew Jet wouldn't have any trouble with her, but she was way higher above the level of normal humans. Gohan stopped munching once he saw Videl drop into her fighting stance. It was almost flawless. He knew she had practiced some type of martial arts, but this was astounding to him.

"Ready whenever you are." Videl smirked.

Jet dropped into his own fighting stance and further lowered his power, "Just say when."

Suddenly, Videl moved. She dashed forward and threw her fist at his face, but he merely sidestepped it. She followed up with a round house kick, but he only ducked to avoid the attack. Jet was surprised as she spun her body and used her other leg to kick again, using the momentum of the first kick to her advantage. Nevertheless, he simply jumped over her leg and placed a hand on her shoulder, shoving her backwards.

Videl growled in frustration and attacked again, aiming for his stomach. Jet jumped backwards, then leaped forwards, landing right in front of her face. With a gentle kick, he sent her flying through the air and onto the grass beside Gohan.

She quickly got back up, ignoring the pain in her abdomen, and leaped back into her fight. She threw a barrage of punches and kicks, each one missing her target by seconds. Her punches were swift and any other person, besides Saiyans, would've been seriously injured if they met the end of Videl's punch. Jet was impressed, but he was getting bored just dodging.

He quickly stepped forward as she punched, moving his head to the side and letting the punch soar by. Videl couldn't react fast enough as Jet punched forward with both his hands, knocking the wind out of her. She tried to retaliate with the rest of her strength, but Jet suddenly flipped over her head and behind her.

Jet gave a slight smirk as Videl tried to turn around. He swiftly delivered two kicks to the back of her legs, sending her to her knees. Gohan had ceased to eat and just watched the fight come to an end. Jet then placed his hand on the back of her head and pushed down, pushing her to the ground.

Erasa stared wide-eyed, "W-What just happened?"

Sharpner was even more at a loss, "D-D-Did he just win? That nerd beat Videl?!"

Gohan stood up and scratched the back of his head, "Maybe that was a bit of overkill, Jet."

Jet shrugged, "Nah, I thought it was just fine."

Videl slowly stood to her feet. Her body was aching now. Jet was far stronger than she thought. He was stronger than her! Her eyes widened. Could he be stronger than my dad?

Jet turned to Videl, "Good match, Videl. You are really good." He then smirked, "But, I'm just better."

Gohan blinked, "Jet?"

Videl glared at him hard, "How are you so strong? You and Gohan." She turned to Gohan, "Because I don't want to hear that it was just by training."

"But, it's true." Gohan argued, "We've just trained for a long time."

Videl stood up and got in his face, nearly touching his nose with hers, "Do not give me that load of lies, Son Gohan! We both know that is not the full truth!"

Jet walked up behind her, "It is Videl."

She suddenly turned around and almost jabbed him in the face with her finger, "Then how come I couldn't touch you at all in that fight."

Jet gave a smile, holding his hands up in defense a little, "I-I've been training for a long time."

Videl smirked, "Well, I've been doing it since I was seven."

Jet smirked back, "I've been doing it since I was four."

Videl's jaw slacked slightly, "T-That's ridiculous. How could you handle stuff like that at that age?"

"Our teacher was a bit eccentric." Gohan laughed.

Videl had an idea, "You." She pointed at Gohan then Jet, "and you, and me are going somewhere and you are explaining everything in detail!"

Jet blinked his eyes, "Not going to happen, Videl."

She got in his face, "Wasn't a question."

"Then watch me disobey." Jet frowned, walking away. Gohan gave a goofy grin before following his best friend.

Orders that were given from weaker people were something Jet couldn't stand. The nerve of them trying to order him. HIM! The boy who helped defeat Cell! He knew if they knew the truth than it would give him a sense of victory, but it's not what Goku would have done.

It's hard not getting angry sometimes. He thought with an outward sigh.
