Hey guys... It's been a long time since you've last heard of me, hasn't it?! I think most of you know why I haven't updated my stories for over 3 months: because of school! It's been a long year and my last year of high school is going to be even longer (and even more painful)! It's summer now, but finding ideas has been difficult so that's why it has taken me a long time to update. But you must know that I'll never abandon this story without finishing it! So you guys will have to bear with me and I hope you'll keep supporting this story :) Here's chapter 13!
P.S. If any of you guys want a summary of what has happened yet in this story if you've forgotten, please PM me or write a review saying so and I'll get back to you as soon as possible.
Disclaimer: I do not own Divergent, Veronica Roth does.
Tobias/Four's P.O.V.
I fidgeted in front of the building door, feeling myself chickening out. I didn't know what to do, still at that moment, after having planned the whole event with my friends; this needed to work. But I didn't want to see that expression on her face, the one portraying her hate towards me and also the hurt I caused her. I saw it from the way she first looked at me back in Paris; she was shocked, but it quickly changed to the raw emotion she has been trying so hard to hide. The other times I had seen her, she had managed to regain control of her body and didn't show as much feelings. The last encounters went bad for both of us and left us emotionally unstable for many days. Now, I knew seeing her would cause more problem than needed, but I was on a mission and I had the intention of accomplishing it.
I turned the door knob of the art studio and walked in, the bells hanging from the ceiling reporting my arrival. A few seconds later, I was greeted by a young woman, around Tris' age, with long black hair and a svelte body. She approached me with a bright smile and greeted me with as much joy.
"Hi, my name is Skylar. How may I help you today?" she asked.
"Hum, I'm looking for some artsy stuff, you know like paintings that I could hang on the walls at my house," I miserably explained.
Skylar gave me an odd glance, quirking an eyebrow; I certainly did not seem like I knew what I was talking about.
"I've heard you sell really pre- amazing art here, I just wanted to check it out myself," I added, hopefully giving off a more intellect vibe.
As I looked back at her, I noticed her staring intensely at me.
"Is everything all right?" I questioned.
"Huh, yeah, it just seems like I've seen you somewhere else. I mean, I would never forget a man with a face like yours," Skylar replied thoughtfully.
Before I even had the slightest of chances to react to her comment, she connected the dots.
"You're the guy from Paris, Tris' ex, right?"
Just then, I remembered Tris hanging out with a friend before she came to me for direction in France. I didn't notice up until now that Skylar was the girl in question.
"Yeah... Look, I just-" she cut me off with a swipe of a hand.
"She's in the shop right now. I'll lead the way, follow me," Skylar turned around, heading at the back of the room.
I stood a bit dumbfounded in the entrance. This girl didn't even try to hear me out; she's going to let me meet Tris when she knows I didn't actually come here to buy a painting. Back in Paris, when Tris had ran away from me, her friend had followed with worry painted all over her face. That same girl was know leading me towards my ex, probably knowing our history and its story. I was grateful she was making this part of the plan easy for me, but her actions are not what I would expected from a true friend.
"Just wait here," she said, when we reached a closed door, before she walked in the room behind it.
Skylar came back a few minutes later and held the door open.
"Tris is ready to see you," she informed me.
Ironically, I did not think she was ready to see me. I entered the room and my eyes immediately found Tris who was rummaging through the files in a drawer, her back turned towards me.
"What can I do you, sir?" Tris asked as she looked up to me.
Instantly, she froze, her mouth wide open. She quickly recomposed herself; it seemed to be a reaction she had learned to master.
"What do you want, Tobias?" she said, going through the stack of paper she had pulled out.
"I came here to do what people usually do here and I'm guessing that it's buying some paintings," I smugly answered.
"Oh, cut the crap! Why are you really here? And how did you find this place?" Her voice was more than just a little tinted with anger.
"As you might have noticed when you came over to my house, I don't have much decoration and it's better now than later to get started on decorating, right?" I asked her, trying to enlighten the situation.
Tris didn't smile. "Why here? Why not somewhere else?" she repeated.
"Zeke might have mentioned that you owned a shop and that you were amazing at what you did."
"I'm going to kill him..." I heard her mutter.
"Don't go blaming him, I might of pressured him to help me," I explained.
I didn't want her to lose a good friend because of me.
"I don't think I can do this. You can't come barging in my life after what you've done. I hope you know how unprofessional this is of you."
"Tris, I actually did come here to buy some artwork, not to torment you," I told her, my statement not completely genuine.
She didn't respond, crossing her arms over her chest as if she was blocking me out with them.
"Look, just think about it, okay?" I put my business card on her desk and gave her a pointed look before leaving the room.
Tris' P.O.V.
I stayed for more than an hour after Tobias left in my office, thinking about our conversation over and over again. For the past few minutes, I had been pacing in the room, wordering if he was still in the shop. I really didn't want to see him again; I had had enough dosage of him to last me plenty of years.
I peeked my head out and saw Sky standing with three clients, showing some of the paintings put in display in the main room of the art studio. Tobias had left. I went to join her and asked if she needed help. The rest of the day, I did some financial stuff, sold a couple of article from the clothing line Skylar had designed herself and tried to paint. I couldn't do anything correctly, I just kept thinking about Tobias.
After the shop's closing time, me and Sky headed off to a café nearby. As we waited in line to order, I said, "You know the guy that came in this morning in the office? Do you know who it is?"
She turned towards me, lifting an eyebrow.
"Just a really cute client, why to you ask?"
"He's my ex," I replied and continued when she looked puzzled, "The one from Paris."
"Ohhhh, he's even more hotter up close," My friend grinned like any typical teenager would when they saw someone who had caught their interest.
I didn't return the smile. She was about to respond when the barista behind the counter cleared her throat. Sky quickly bought her drink and so did I and we sat down on a table next to the window.
"I'm sorry, if I had known it was him all along, I would have never let him see you," she explained to me.
"It's fine, you're not the one to blame. It's just so annoying to have him around all the time, it almost seems like he's stalking me!"
She gave me a baffled look.
"Okay, well, he probably never stalked me. But still! I just want to live my life and he can't seem to let me go after he dumped me," I let out a sigh.
"Tris, I might me rough on you here, but at least hear me out," my best friend told me. When I didn't object, she continued, "Go meet him somewhere and just talk to him. Let him say what he has to say and let him hear what you have to say. Tell him you've started a new life for yourself and that you both need to move while remaining peaceful and calm about it."
I scrunched up my face at the thought of that conversation.
"Try it out and if it doesn't work, then we can take the big guns!" she added.
I sipped my coffee as I thought about it. Christina, Marlene and Shauna gave me the same advice. Tobias had always been a jerk, but he wasn't the irrational type, he'd probably leave me alone if I told him with a lot of conviction.
"You know what? I'll do it."
I hope you liked this chapter, let me know and if you have any ideas, don't be shy and share them; I'm always grateful when I get some! I would like to thank Castro05, Shadowpletlove, bahrfamily, Guest, ffprincess, FandomFreak1, jabc4 and BeatriceGrace for the reviews for the last chapter.
