Natsu and Gray were still walking around the town looking for anybody who could help them. Unfortunately not many people were willing to help strangers who randomly showed up when people started disappearing. Gray sighed, he knew that this job would be a lot harder if they couldn't get some information on the kidnappings. He looked around at the small town and tried to find a house that they haven't checked yet. At this rate they would have to get all of their information from the mayor. Wait, that's it! If they can't get any help from the towns people then they could just get help from the mayor. He couldn't believe he didn't think of this before.
He grabbed Natsu's arm to stop him from walking causing his head to jerk around and look up at Gray. For some reason, Gray was reminded of their little 'kiss' and he felt his face heat up. Anytime he thought about what happened in the alley he felt really happy. He was happy that Natsu had been the one to start the kiss but he still hadn't said what he thought of Gray. He wasn't even sure what to call them now. They weren't friends but they weren't a couple either. So what were they?
"What's wrong Gray?" He heard Natsu ask which snapped him out of his thoughts. For a few seconds he couldn't remember why he had stopped Natsu and he mentally cursed himself for looking like an idiot in front of Natsu and taking so long to reply.
"Well I was just thinking and since no one else will talk to us, why don't we just ask the mayor? He was fine with talking to us" Gray said looking at Natsu and waited for him to reply. He looked down at his arm and noticed that his hand was still on his arm. He quickly retracted his hand from Natsu.
"That seems like a good idea, and I know you won't like it but there was one other person who didn't mind talking to us" He said smiling shyly. Gray raised an eyebrow. What was Natsu talking about? Everyone they talked to slammed a door in their face and yelled at them. Who else besides the mayor could they- oh right, there was her. That Bree girl at the inn who was flirting with Natsu. Gray growled at just the thought of her.
"No, we are not asking her for help. The mayor is good enough" He said angrily. He really couldn't stand that women. She was just drooling over Natsu and that really angered him. He had finally gotten Natsu to himself and he just knew that if they went to her, she would flirt with Natsu some more. There was no way he was going to let that happen.
"Come on Gray, she could help us. The mayor might not know everything and right now we could use whatever kind of help we can get" He reasoned. Even though Gray didn't want to admit it, he had a point. No one else in the town was going to help them and she might know something that the mayor didn't. He sighed defeated and looked down at the pink hair teen.
"Fine we'll ask her for help but if she tries anything with you we're leaving" He said still pretty angry about the whole thing. Natsu smiled and nodded then started walking in the direction of the inn. Only to be stopped by Gray's hand back on his arm. He looked back over to Gray.
"What's the matter now?" He asked turning around to face him.
"We are not going to her first. We are going to ask the mayor what he knows then we can ask her" Gray said pulling Natsu's arm so that he was walking towards the mayors house. Natsu sighed but followed him anyway. And if he was being honest with himself, he kind of liked Gray being so protective of him. It made him really happy inside. Not that he would ever tell Gray that.
They walked to the mayors house and knocked on the door. After a few seconds the door opened and the mayor looked at them with a confused face.
"Well, hello there wizards. Is there something I can help you with?" He asked. Gray nodded and began to explain their situation. After he was done the mayor had allowed them to come into his house. They walked into his living room and sat down next to each other on his couch. The mayor didn't notice that Gray had sat closer to Natsu than before. Gray had made it so their thighs and shoulders were touching.
"So mayor-"
"Please, call me Jin" The mayor interrupted.
"Ok Jin can you tell us anything about the missing people. Did they have anything in common?" Gray asked.
"Well they were all pretty young, each of them were about your age and they all worked at a small shop in the town but besides that I can't think of anything that would be of use" He told them. Gray started to think about the information he was given. They were all young and worked in a shop. Could the shops have something to do with it?
"Mayo- err, Jin. Could you show us where the shops are" Gray asked. The mayor nodded but then fiddled with his fingers.
"But if it is alright with you can we do that tomorrow I have some things to take care of tonight" He asked. Gray raised in eyebrow in question but nodded anyway. However he couldn't help but voice at least one question.
"You said that every two days someone else went missing. So when did the last person go missing" He asked
"It was... Two days ago. That's why I didn't want to go tonight, even I am afraid that I might be next. It is also the reason that so many of the towns people didn't want to talk to you. They were all to scared" He told them looking down. Gray nodded and got up from the couch followed by Natsu who was being uncharacteristically quiet. Jin walked with them to the door and as they were about to leave he stopped them.
"I should warn you, don't leave the inn tonight. Unless you want to be kidnapped too" He said then closed the door leaving them both confused. 'How did he know we were staying at the inn' Gray thought but didn't say anything about it. Him and Natsu then started to walk towards the inn. Even though Gray didn't want to. He was walking slowly so he didn't have to see Bree so soon.
Natsu seemed to notice Gray's dilemma and put a hand on his shoulder, startling Gray. He looked down at Natsu who was just smiling kindly at him.
"Relax Gray, I know you don't like her but she could help us" Natsu said reassuringly. Gray smiled at him and couldn't help but lean down and place a small kiss on Natsu's lips. He pulled back and enjoyed the sight of Natsu trying to look like a tomato. He chuckled a little then grabbed Natsu's hand and pulled him along towards the inn.
When they got there they saw that Bree was still there behind the counter. 'Doesn't she ever go anywhere else' Gray thought as Natsu started to walk towards her. Gray made sure that he was very close to Natsu and to send mental daggers to her through his mind. She looked up from something that she was writing and smiled happily when she saw Natsu. This made Gray move even closer to Natsu.
"Hey there pinky what are you up to?" She asked. Natsu could see Gray stiffen out of the corner of his eye. Probably from the nickname that she had given him. Natsu quickly spoke before Gray could do anything.
"Well you see, we were trying to ask some people for information on the people who disappeared but everyone would slam the door in our faces. We were hoping that you could help us out" He said smiling. She seemed to go into some thought before turning back to Natsu.
"Ok I'll tell you some stuff but you have to go out to dinner with me since you never gave me a real answer this morning" She said shifting her gaze over to Gray for a second to glare at him before turning back to Natsu. Gray clenched his hands into fists and it took every bit of self restraint that he had not to snap at this girl. Natsu could feel the tension going on and quickly answered.
"Sure, I'll go with you. How about tomorrow?" He asked. She smiled happily before Natsu was roughly pulled away by Gray who was now shaking with anger. Natsu tried to get out of his grasp but Gray kept his hand firmly on his arm. When they were out of hearing range Gray looked angrily at Natsu.
"What the hell do you think you're doing?" He said letting go of his arm.
"I'm trying to get some information and this seems like the only way to do it"
"Then I'm going with you"
"I don't think she'll like it if you come along"
"Like I give a damn what she likes, there is no way that I am letting you go alone with her. And I told you that if she tries something with you we were leaving" Gray said narrowing his eyes in the direction that Bree was in.
"Look, I know what you said and I don't really want to go to dinner with her either-"
"Then don't go"
"But this seems like the only way that we're going to get some information. Don't you trust me Gray?" He asked pouting a little.
Gray didn't know what to do. He really didn't want his Natsu to go out with her. But they also really needed to know some things about the people who disappeared. He really did trust Natsu it was Bree that he didn't trust. Who knows what she would try to pull if Gray wasn't there to stop her. But Natsu was a big boy who could (hopefully) take care of himself. He then looked down at Natsu who was still pouting like a puppy begging for food. He sighed, just what is Natsu doing to him.
"Fine, you can go. But if she tries anything, I'll burst in there and make sure that she won't be able to do it again" He said angrily. Natsu smiled then walked back over to where Bree was still standing.
"Ok so we can go to dinner tomorrow then you can give me the information I need" He told her. She just smiled happily and nodded.
"But I think that we'll turn in for the night, we've had a long day of getting yelled at and getting doors slammed in our faces" Natsu said as he turned around and started to walk towards their room with Gray following close behind him. He looked down at the smaller teen and wrapped an arm around his waist causing Natsu to stiffen and he face to grow red.
"I guess I'll just have to spend my time with you carefully until tomorrow" He said biting down slightly on Natsu's ear. Said teens face grew even redder and a chill ran down his spine. For some reason he was really looking forward to them being alone in the room.
Meanwhile, Bree was still waving and smiling at them until they were out of view. Once she lost sight of them she put her arm down and smirked evilly. She walked back behind the counter and looked down at what she was writing. There was a long list of names and next to each name was a shop name. She picked up her pencil and wrote down another name.
"Oh I am definitely looking forward to our date tomorrow, salamander" She said as she looked down at the name.
Natsu Dragneel: Fairy Tail.
Oh no, it's another cliffhanger. What will happen tomorrow on their date? What is Gray going to do with Natsu in their room? ;). What secrets does Bree hold? Why am I asking all these questions? I don't even know. Ok guys, once again I am so sorry that this chapter took so long but my friend showed me this other really cool fanfiction website called wattpad and I am so addicted with it.
