I still have not acquired possession of any anime.
Sesshomaru suppressed a sigh as he heard the boy trip on a tree root, causing him to drop further behind. This walk had been the boy's idea, but he was preoccupied and thus inattentive. Several times the boy had tried to speak to him, but lost his nerve and became tongue tied.
This worried Sesshomaru. He had an ominous feeling he knew what this was all about. Part of him wished the boy would just spit it out, the other part did not wish to have the conversation he feared the boy was trying to work up the nerve for.
The demon lord came to a stop at a break in the trees at the crest of a hill and gazed out over the landscape . This gave the boy a chance to catch up. He wasn't sure why he was having such a hard time asking his question. He was fairly sure Sesshomaru wouldn't hurt him. Not much anyway. But he was afraid the answer would be 'no'.
He drew up even with the youkai and also looked out over the land scape. There was no one around for miles. No one to see if he made a fool of himself, except Sesshomaru. And Kenji was pretty sure Sesshomaru regarded him as a fool anyway. It was now or never.
Kenji took a deep breath and turned to Sesshomaru. "Sesshomarusama, I want to ask..." The boy faltered for a moment, then pressed on. "I know you and I don't know each other well, I can understand if you... Well... I really care about Rin. I know you think we are young. I guess we kind of are. I can understand if you think we should wait, but I... I really want your blessing sir, to marry her... someday."
Sesshomaru turned to the young human and regarded him for a long moment. The boy had honor, courage, kindness. But they were still so young. Too young to be in love. There was still a chance they could outgrow this infatuation. At least he hoped so. She couldn't stay a child forever, but he just wasn't ready to let his little Rin go.
Kenji waited for a response. Deciding he wouldn't get one he started to turn when Sesshomaru spoke. "What you ask for I cannot give at this time. However, in the future I might think on it."
"I understand sir." The young Samurai replied.
Sesshomaru turned and walked back towards the village. Neither of them spoke again for the rest of the journey.
Rin was in the hut with Kimi when Sesshomaru and Kenji returned. She resisted the urge to question him right away. When Kimi Stated she needed to get more water Rin stood up, "let me get it. Kenji, can you show me where that river is again?"
Kenji looked over to Sesshomaru, "May I, Sir?"
"Take Jaken with you."
Jaken rose to his feet and accompanied the two kids out the door without a word of complaint. Sesshomaru had noticed that he complained a lot less recently. Even seemed to take the job of guarding the girl more seriously these days. Though he used to do it out of loyalty he now seemed almost proud of his job.
Sesshomaru gave the trio a few minutes head start then followed after them. Once they thought they were out of earshot, with Jaken trailing at a respectful distance, Rin asked Kenji "What did he say?"
"He said he needs time to think about it."
"He'll never give us his blessing."
"He might."
"We should elope." Rin told him. "We can run away and get married, if I am with child before he finds us he'll never..."
"Rin, I want his blessing. You should as well."
"I do, but we'll never get it."
"We'll wait. Give him time. You're worth waiting for." Kenji told the girl as he took the bucket from her and scooped up some water.
Sesshomaru melted away into the forest. What to do now? He never thought Rin would be so anxious to defy him. He decided they should visit his brother's village, he needed a woman's advice.
