Luffy panted heavily, her legs wobbled as she tried to stand up and the icy cold breeze that continued to pass didn't exactly help her situation much. She was at the usual training ground, but this time they weren't training. Kuro had told her why he had asked to train her, "To make you strong enough to become my secret weapon"Luffy had sneered at him and retorted, "As if, the future pirate king is no one's weapon" But he had simply smirked, looming over her exhausted figure.

"I thought you said, we were leaving because it would make my brothers… happy." She panted, her vision was already going blurry; and it wasn't just because of her various injuries, she knew that much. This, this explained why he had threatened her into not telling her brothers at him; and suddenly she felt guilt and regret; perhaps if she had only listened to then… Then again they weren't her brothers anymore; she had done the unspeakable and had committed an unacceptable crime. She was surprised they didn't kill her on the spot for being born.

Luffy had moved to attack; though her movements were easily calculated as they were slow and exhausting for her; "Bastard" she had said at the time when he easily pushed her down, "Please, Luffy-kun, no matter how hard you try, it won't work. I've… Done something to prevent you from attacking me, so until you come to obedience, you'll always be like that. A pathetically weak child" He had replied, that same sly smile and glint of the glasses that Luffy had never noticed before was now present.

Her eyes widened as he got closer and closer to her, until he raised his hand and knocked her unconscious.

Damn it all.

She had no idea how long she had been out, and she could only guess where she was; on a ship, she judged from the sea water smell and the constant rocking of whatever she was lying on—an old mattress shoved into the corner of an empty room. The room was terribly dark and she was completely alone, at least that was what she thought. She grabbed her head; it was throbbing in pain and the rocking of the ship (1) defiantly wasn't helping her right now.

Her vision was slightly blurry, so she wasn't sure she could trust what she could see; but she swung her legs over the mattress nonetheless and used the wall to help her move. The window, on the far end of the room had bars on it; 'why bother' she thought, she couldn't swim anyway. She was a devil fruit user.

She froze when she heard the voice of an unknown person, maybe she was just hearing things but did someone ask, 'Are you okay?' yeah, she was probably just hearing things; but for the gist of it, she answered anyway; "Y-Yeah" her voice cracked; and her vision blacked for a moment for some reason, but when it came back she could see better. Across from the mattress she had been lying on, was another mattress in the same condition as hers, and a child a little older than her was lying there. A small smile appeared on Luffy's face, "You're real!" She announced, making her way over to the other side of the room at the fastest pace she could manage.

" I'm Luffy, future pirate king! What about you?" She asked, crouching down when she made it to the other side, "Are you okay, what hurts?" He repeated; watching her with seemingly disinterested eyes, his skin a light tan color.

"Mm, my head mostly." She replied honestly and he nodded in return; "My name is Trafalgar Law, it's nice to meet you; Luffy-ya."

"Nice to meet ya too, Toraro…. Torrara… Traofa… Traffy!" Luffy paused, looking around the empty room again before returning her gaze back to the other child; "Where are we?"

Law sweat dropped, but replied anyway "On a pirate's ship; his name is Kuro and he's the captain"

"Why are you here?"

"I've been here for a month now, and he saw some sort of potential in my medical abilities… I take it he saw something in you too?"

Luffy nodded vigorously, "Yeah! He said he would make me strong enough to become his secret weapon, he's such a creep…"

"Listen to me, Luffy; do what he says until I can find a way out of here, do you understand?" Luffy nodded again, "Great; go to bed, it'll be annoying if you're weak in the morning.

Luffy woke to the feeling of someone vigorously trying to push her away, when she opened her eyes she came face to face with her new friend; Law. She sat up and blinked twice; then a smile broke out and she hugged him, "M-Morning!" Her head was still pounding, but hugs never hurt anyone. She slid out of the bed and stretched; working out whatever tightness she had gained from staying still for so long.

Law continued to watch her with an un-amused glare before sighing deeply; telling her that there should be a pair of clothing by her bed just as there was at his. He was able to get changed easily; and then have enough time to make sure Luffy put her clothing on correctly, it was just a plain white shirt with baggy white shorts… 'How did he manage to put on his boxer shorts backwards and his shirt inside out?' He questioned, more to himself than to anyone else as he silently helped her get changed before returning to his bed; where he proceeded to dig a knife out of a hole in the side.

Luffy watched as he picked it up and proceeded towards the window, silently sawing at the bars repeatedly. He seemed to be through the one and now would only have to saw through five more on the bottom and then six on the top… It would take long, and the blade on the knife looked worn down already; it wouldn't last very long, and if it had taken him a month to get through the bottom of the first one; then that was bad news, for both of them.

"Where'd you that from?" Luffy asked, making sure to avoid the word 'knife' in case someone was listening in, she wouldn't want to get Law, her new friend in trouble…

"Kitchen, around the time I got here" Law stated as he continued, an unwavering stare focusing on his work.

"I'll try get another for you, okay?" She asked, backing towards the door and leaving before the older could even reach out to her. He simply decided it wasn't his problem, and continued hacking at the bars. It would be amusing, if she were to actually come back with another knife; besides, he wouldn't need another for at least a week-

He frowned with the blade broke off and went tumbling into the ocean below.

Perhaps, it was karma for letting Luffy go alone?

Luffy silently walked through the unpleasantly dirty hallway, the wood was corroded and felt weird on her bare feet; she used the wall to help her move from one place to another again, it was necessary. She heard laughing from drunken pirates; and dodged by moving from one hallway to another, and watched them walk by with liquor in their hands. Honestly, should they really be drinking like that? She shook her head, continuing in the direction in which she smelled food; and even that didn't smell so good, some sort of slop she'd never had before… They must have a horrible chef.

When she becomes a pirate; she's gonna get the best chef out there, no matter what. She thought with a smile, almost tripping over her own two feet as she entered the next room. The only person in the room was a man, a man wearing completely white with a chef's hat; but even he was horribly dirty… Luffy didn't like it, but waited for him to pass her anyway. She listened to various swear words she was told she wasn't allowed to say when she still lived with Ace and Sabo…

Finally, the man sighed deeply and left the room; a pot of bubbling… What was in the pot? She frowned as he carried out, but continued anyway; successfully grabbing two large butchers' knives with rather sharp blades. She grabbed a pair of scissors that had been lazing on the counter as well; she placed them so they could be held up by the elastic of her boxer shorts before turning and running off in the same direction she had come from.

Having been over excited about accomplishing her goal; she bumped into an unknown pirate the second her adrenaline rush ran out. "wha're yu doin' outaa yor rume?" The man slurred as he picked her up, his breath smelled of alcohol and his teeth were yellow, he as well rounded and his hands were rough. There was a pink tint on his face; yup, he was defiantly drunk.

"I got hungry" It wasn't the truth, but it wasn't a lie either; Luffy was actually, very hungry. The man laughed loudly, though she didn't get why he was laughing. The Pirate walked towards the direction of her room and opened the door, "No food fer u tday den'" The man said opening the door and throwing her into the room with such force that she left a dent against the wood behind her mattress. The door was slammed and she was left alone to slide off the wall and stand up shakily.

Her head hurt even more, considering she had her head introduced to the wall just now, she was rubber for god's sake; so why the hell did it hurt? She bit her lip in pain as she felt a small trickle of blood run down her forehead, then; she made eye contact with Law; who was watching her from the bed across from her. Pain completely forgotten, she turned to him and gave him the widest smile she could manage before pulling out two large knives from behind her back and moving to give them to her.

"Now, now we can be friends; right?

His eyes had widened as he watched her; he was expecting her to return empty handed, but she had actually managed to get the knives? Two big ones like that too! He hated to admit it, but that was really helpful, considering he was without knives right now. He opened his mouth to try and force out a thanks, but he just couldn't do it; when he finally mustered up the courage, her smile had dropped and so had her body.

Lifelessly, as if she were dead

But she wasn't, she still had a pulse; he just needed to fix her wounds with the medical supplies he had been granted. She had hit her head rather hard, so it was obvious she would have an concussion; he would also need to wrap her head, considering the wound and blood loss wouldn't be healthy for her either.

When he finally finished, he pushed his medical supplies back next to his bed and picked up the knives; hiding them where he had hid the previous as he waited for her to wake up.

Maybe he regretted waiting for her, because when she did wake up, and when they spoke; he had never felt more regretful in his life.

Luffy had smiled at him and asked if the knives were good enough, he had nodded hesitantly.

Luffy had then proceeded to ask him if they were friends or not; and then Law learned she absolutely hated being alone. She'd even gone as far to say that loneliness was worse than physical pain, the physical pain he could have prevented if he had simply stopped from leaving.

"It's okay, if you don't want to be friends" She had told him, her smile seemed to have faded with this sentence; as well as the next afterwards, "I'm kinda like a murderer, so I'd understand why…" She continued when he didn't reply; her straw hat falling further and further over her eyes, as if she wanted to hide them.
"I… I don't deserve to live, right?" She asked the moment footsteps approached her; "It's okay, if you want to kill me too… My own mother died because of me… all because I had to be born… Why did I have to be born?" Tears falling down from her eyes by now, and they were dripping off her cheeks.

Law didn't know why he did it, he didn't know why he sat next to her and reached out to bring her into a hug of all things; he didn't know why he didn't just ignore her, it wasn't his problem, right? But this girl, had endangered herself just to get him what he needed for himself to escape without asking for anything in return- and he didn't know why.

She had been happy and bubbly, but now she was reduced to a misery; he held her even closer as he felt the sobs rack her body, he felt her grab onto him too.

Now, he was curious; what could she have possibly gone through to make her cry this much? Why did she hate the fact that she had to be born? Why does she regret being born? It couldn't just because her mother died of childbirth, so what was it?

He decided not to think about it anymore.

"I'll be your friend, Luffy." He finally said and the girl looked up; nearly hitting him in the chin in the process, but she smiled. He could only give her a small upturn of his lips in return; "Thanks!" She cried out, hugging him even tighter and burying herself into his shirt.

For some reason Law felt an attraction to this girl.

Around ten minutes later Luffy finally released him and wiped her eyes that looked pink from all the crying, there were tear marks underneath them too. He watched as she turned to him and reached into her pocket; handing him a pair of scissors and announcing that she wanted her hair cut. "Law, cut my hair for me please? It'd be annoying if it kept getting in the way like this, and I can't have myself looking like a girl; now can I?"

Law had nodded and she promptly moved to sit on his lap as he carefully cut her hair; she had told him to cut it down to the point it only reached the middle of her neck; and so, he did. When he finished he combed his fingers through it to get rid of unwanted strands before he told her he had finished. Law wanted to smack himself for thinking this, but he thought she looked even cuter than she had with long hair. "He's a boy, what the hell am I thinking?"

He shook his head and picked up the unwanted hair off the ground and stuffed it in an unused corner, wiping himself off as well and turning around; Luffy had fallen asleep again.
