Ace and Sabo.
Three minutes have passed since the boy's names have been mentioned, and Law's current state of mind has finally been noticed."What's wrong?" Sabo finally asks, being the first one to speak up over the awkward silence as his eye brow arch with curiosity. Taking a second to think, Law shakes his head and presses on his temples harshly, trying to ease his quickly growing headache.
"Nothing." Law deadpans, speaking with next to no emotion in his voice He rolls a hand through his hair and returns it to his side; this is his chance to get answers. This is his chance to learn more about Luffy, and hopefully to get these men to leave them alone. "Anyway, have you ever wondered why your sister left you?"
"Yeah" Ace replies automatically with a sigh, his eyes becoming sad as he speaks. " From the very first day I met her I was an asshole, it took her getting kidnapped and beaten for hours with a spiked gloves for me to accept her. Hell, I didn't even know she was a girl."
"Neither did I," Sabo interjects, "We became a trio of brothers after we saved her, we did everything together... We were family even though we weren't related by blood."
A sad smile leaks onto Sabo's face, Law doesn't pity him.
"Then we found out that she was related to Ace, by blood." He pauses for the briefest of seconds, "Things went downhill from there."
"Why?" Law asks, though he already knows the answer. Perhaps he'll get a different one, an answer that he could accept. He wants to understand their reasoning better, and this was the only way. Though at the same time he wonders why that was something that would cause them to hate her, to have her become an outcast and just downright ignore her. It was stupid, so stupid that Law felt inclined to move and hit them both upside the head. He remains still. "You couldn't have just abandoned her for that reason, right?"
"When my mother died of childbirth I blamed it on my younger sister, who I believed to be a boy. That's probably her first memory, me yelling at and calling her a murderer." His breath hitches and he shudders, "I abandoned her after that, and she was left alone without a single realities."
"So you abandoned her again when you discovered who she was?" Law sends them a guarded, disapproving look when they downcast their eyes and nod towards him. As the conversation continues, Law remembers how miserable Luffy was whenever she remembered her so called brothers. Surly, having such harsh words yelled at her would be traumatizing, even if she didn't know what was going on. Sure it was rare, but it was also very, very possible. "That's pathetic."
"We treated her so badly after that too, we betrayed her. We treated her like trash and hurt her and stole from her until one day something happened and..." Sabo sighs, biting down on his lip as guilt riddles his face. Law can tell merely from watching him that Sabo has regretted this for a long time, that he's been wanting to apologize for since he came to see the wrong in what he was doing. However, apologizes didn't fix everything. "She saved me. She risked her life and saved me."
"We accepted her after that, and yet when we went to thank her and accept her again... She was gone."
"It sounds like you were just waiting for an excuse to rid yourselves of your own guilt and find a reason to accept her again." Law states, his eyes narrowed as he scans over the two brothers who can't push another word through their quivering lips. "Let me guess, you're trying to find her again to 'make things right.'"
Ace nods, "Of course!"
"When we find her we'll apologize and make it up to her and then we can become family again!" Sabo finishes, his expression slightly uplifted from what it as before.
"Do you really think that's the right thing to do?" Law asks, raising a slim raven eyebrow at the brothers. For some reason he has the sadistic need to crush their hope and watch them suffer; it would all be to keep them as far away from Luffy as possible though. It wasn't his own personal desire to hurt them mentally... Maybe it was.
"It sounds like you really just plan on taking advantage of her. You know as clear as day that she forgives others easily, and you've seemed to have planned everything around this."
"Well what else are we supposed to do?!" Ace yells, slamming his fists onto his legs in rage. "She's our sister, it's only natural for us to want her back!"
"You could leave her alone."
Both brothers send him a surprised look with slight terror, and he continues despite.
"If you're sister is alive right now, there's a large chance that she's perfectly happy without you. Finding her and suddenly dropping into her life could make things worse rather than better." Law glances towards Luffy. "Leave her alone, let her live her life perfectly happy without you. That is how you will help her, how you'll apologize to her without saying a word."
The door slams, and Law doesn't even have to look up to know that the brothers had disappeared. He looks back down at Luffy.
"She's perfectly happy without you."
He smiles.

The first thing that registers in Luffy's mind when she wakes up is how much her head hurts; as she opens her eyes she scans the room and comes across the young man sleeping at the side of her bed. His head rests on the bed and he's hunched over in an uncomfortable position. She finds it easier than it usually is to go through everyday motions, she doesn't even struggle to get out of bed. Feeling her bare feet hit the cold wooden floors is slightly comforting, considering how she's usually to tired to stand too long.
With strength she didn't know she had, she heaves the larger man into bed and covers him with the blankets. Law seems to unconsciously adjust himself into the position she had been in just seconds ago. He lets out a sigh and she smiles at him, sitting in the same spot he had been in before. He puts a hand on his head and absentmindedly runs her hands through his hair. He leans into the touch.
Law is nice.
Luffy knows that, as he's always been there for her. He does nothing but care for her despite the trouble she must cause him. She wonders if it's her fault that there are bags underneath his eyes, proving just how much he needed to sleep right now. She brings her knees to her chest and rests a head on her knee as she continues to watch him. Law's a good looking guy, and Luffy has never really realized this before. He had smooth skin, a long and slim waist, and eyes that made her feel warm. She liked being around him.
Would he abandon her just as everyone did before? Surly that couldn't happen, but Luffy couldn't help but have her doubts. Eventually he'd get tired of her and she'd have to be on her way again; but she's not really sure if she can move on this time. She's spent the majority of her life with him; if he left then she'd be alone again. She doesn't like being alone, it's scary and lonely. She sighs, moving from the chair and back into the soft bed. She wraps her arms around Law's waist and closes her eyes.
The silence doesn't last long.
The door opens once again and two familiar faces step inside.
Ace, Sabo.
…
It's been such a long time since Luffy has been this close to these two people.
She sits across from Sabo as she holds his arm, carefully stitching the large wound running across his elbow and stopping at his wrist. The wound had already been cleaned and disinfected. She paces herself, controlling her breathing and trying to keep herself calm in such a situation.
She knows that Ace is behind, and every time she looks he's standing with his arms crossed while watching her with a observant eye. He watches her with slight interest leaves an unnerved feeling on Luffy's shoulders. To Luffy, it feels as if Ace is close enough for her to feel his breath down her back. She's uncomfortable, but she tries not to show it.
"I really don't know much... About being a doctor... But my... brother likes to show me the basics... in case something happens and he's not there... He's a really good doctor..." She stutters, never once moving her head as she focuses on the injury in front of her.
From this point on she has to take back her statement about being uncomfortable. She feels much, much, much more than just simple discomfort. She doesn't know what word to use, but saying she was uncomfortable would be a huge understatement. Right now, she felt as if she wanted to violently shake Law's body until he woke up and then jump out the porthole just to escape from these people who she didn't have the right to call her brothers anymore.
Awkwardly, she places the used needles on the counter by her side and runs a warm washcloth over the injured area in order to carefully clean the wound of any excess blood. She runs an antibacterial wash over the injury and shakily reaches for the bandages; they're too far away and it seems as if she'll have to move in order to get them. Seeing this, Ace gets them for her.
His arms are longer so he really doesn't have to move much; and with gentleness Luffy hadn't expected, he hands them over to her. As their hands touch for the briefest of moments, Luffy is reminded of the times Ace and Sabo used to hold her hands to take her places.
She remembers how much fun they had as siblings, she remembered just how much they had loved and cared for each other; it's at this moment that she wants to hold his hand again. Avoiding eye contact, she takes pulls her hand back down to her side and begins wrapping the wound. She's gentle, just as she always is when she touches Sabo and Ace. They're gentle with her too, or at least that was what it was like before they found out who she was... A murderer.
"You're touch is familiar," Sabo begins suddenly; to him, he feels far more than relaxed than he has ever felt before. Even though he's injured and being treated right now, he felt absolutely calm and comforted in her presence. "You're presence, is really familiar too."
"It's calming." Ace finishes for his brother, releasing a breath he didn't know he was holding in. "You're nice, but you're brother's an asshole."
"My broth-?" Luffy begins to question, and then she remembers exactly what type of situation she was in right now. She made an error, and now she had to fix it. Briefly, her eyes widen and she quickly speaks again.
"My brother is nice too, he's just tired... He's always taking care of me and he's been losing sleep because of it..." She finishes with a sigh, finishing with the bandages and releasing Sabo's hand. Sabo smiles as he flexes his fingers, standing up abruptly and placing a hand on her head and ruffling her hair briefly. It's another notion that makes Luffy's chest throb and a feeling of longing fill in her heart.
She wants her big brothers back.
But it was impossible.
"Anyway, can I ask you something kid?" Ace finally asks, coming out from behind her and placing himself in the spot Sabo had previously been in. Looking straight into Luffy's eyes, he waits for her to reply. Finally, her head bobs up and down. "Sabo and I... We have a little sister... A while ago something happened to her, and we lost her..."
Luffy feels her voice die on her tongue as she licks her lives as she tries her best not to freeze up at the mere mention of her past. This situation she was put in was far too ironic to be possible yet here she was, listening to her brothers talk about her as if she wasn't here- right in front of their eyes.
"Right now we're trying to find where she disappeared to..." Ace speaks again, and Luffy feels herself begin to breathe faster. She can't help but wonder why they wanted to find her? Did they want to hurt her and yell at her even more than they did already? Maybe this time they wanted to find her and get revenge for killing Rouge? She turns her head quickly enough for her neck to crack, and Sabo stares at her with worry... That wasn't what was bothering her, rather, it was the look he was sending her.
It was as if he recognized her.
Did he know who she was?
Luffy can't control her body as she runs out of the room.
oOo
Law opens his eyes and yawns; he opens his eyes and the first thing he sees if a black haired man leaning next to the wall by the door. His green eyes stare angrily at him, and for a moment Law finds his own eyes scanning for something that isn't there. He mentally slaps himself for falling asleep when he was supposed to be guarding and protecting her. "What the fuck did you do?!" He growls at the boy across the room, throwing the blankets off of his body and practically jumping out of bed.
"Stop yelling! I didn't do shit!" Ace retorts, his brow furrows in anger at being accused of something so quickly "She ran out of the room, I didn't do anything! We just mentioned something about our sister after she finished helping my brother, and then she ran off!"
Law narrows his eyes just as the door opens, and Sabo stands while panting heavily. The first thing Law notices is the banding on his arm, it's obviously Luffy's handiwork and it's surprisingly good. Law feels proud of Luffy for lasting so long before running off, but he doesn't really have much time to think about the subject before he's questioned.
"What's your last name?" Sabo questions as he finally catches his breath, "Who are you two?"
"Our last names are none of your business." Law replies harshly. He really doesn't have any time for this. All he wants to do is find his sister and then get as far away from these two brothers as possible.
"Then maybe you can explain this,"
Sabo holds out an all too familiar straw hat.
It's Luffy's.
