oOo
There she is.
Just a little thing, having been born literally seconds ago.
His mother holds her newborn child with shaking, weak, and terribly pale arms. There's a weak smile on her face, but Ace pays no attention to it. Rather, he looks at the child resting in his mother's arms. It's covered in blood, so much blood that it's sickening to look at. It's a tiny thing. It wails loudly; it hurts his ears and gives him a headache.
That thing wasn't a baby. It was a parasite.
Ace can only stare with a look of horror.
Something changes.
"I'm sorry. I love you, Ace; Luffy."
His mother's eyes close, she takes her last breath, and the thing in her arms only cries louder.
Suddenly Ace is at her funeral, watching as the tiny parasite laughs in his grandfather's arms as they mourn the loss of a woman by the name of Rouge. She was dead, and that thing, that parasite had killed her. Yet, it was laughing.
"Murder" Ace whispers.
He yells words that he easily forgets, but she remembers for the rest of her life.
Suddenly she's seven years old and standing before him with a cheeky grin, looking up to him and calling him 'Big brother' while hiding a bloody knife behind her back. Her grin is malicious, dark, terrifying.
Ace doesn't notice yet.
Right now she's just any other child, a stranger she had met in the woods; a person she's not related to him by blood.
But then he finds out.
Then all of the love and happiness he had shared with her was forgotten, and hey, he remembers. She's a parasite. She's not human, so she doesn't actually have any feelings. So he gets Sabo to hate her and then turn his back on her as well.
The murderer looks so sad; but Ace doesn't want her to kill his brother too.
Ace hates her. He hates her so much; he hates and hates and hates and hates and hates her some more until one day… One day she saves Sabo. The parasite, the murderer, his sister; she saves Sabo and then Ace doesn't know what to think anymore.
It's because of this little girl that his mother died, leaving him alone for a month before he met Sabo.
Yet it's because of this little girl that he's not alone anymore; because she saved Sabo.
She disappears.
She's gone.
But Ace can't call her a murderer anymore.
The only thing that comes to mind now is 'Little sister.'
It's too late to call her that now.
It's three in the morning when Ace finds himself unable to sleep, because this wet substance won't stay out of his eyes as realization hits.
oOo
Luffy has become even clingier than usual.
Law isn't really sure why such a thing has developed in Luffy, but he's sure as hell not complaining. He feels strangely happy when she randomly joins him in bed, takes his hand when they're walking together, or cuddles up to him when he's sitting down. Law has even come to enjoy resting his head in her lap when to take a nap whenever the chance came up.
Of course, these actions never went unnoticed to the crewmates. They'd tease him and send him suggestive glances, all of which he would glare and blatantly ignore with a slightly flushed face that is slowly becoming a normal reaction for him.
Today he's up early. Luffy had been waking up at odd times lately, and today she had dragged him outside to watch the sunrise. Then the idiot had fallen asleep seconds after it had made an appearance in the sky. Law couldn't even bring himself to be annoyed.
She's cute, sleeping up against him like this. He thinks.
He likes running his fingers through her silky hair, and how she always moves into his touch as if she were a cat instead of a human girl. Sometimes she's like a baby, sucking her thumb in her sleep and practically begging for his attention at some moments.
What an interesting girl she is.
He runs a finger across her soft cheek, her nose twitches in reply.
"Hey; I'll never leave you, so never leave me. Okay?" He whispers, breathing in the fresh morning air as he wraps his arms tightly around her midsection.
"Stupid." Her eyes are half lidded as she hits his head softly with the back of her fist. She looks up at him with a pouty expression, but her eyes are dead serious. "Leaving you would be the stupidest thing I could ever do. I plan on staying with you forever and ever and ever after that; so don't think about getting rid of me."
"Of course." He smiles, but it doesn't last. "I'm going to have to remove more of the sea stone later today, so please put up with it again."
"Sure; if you put up with my whining for not giving me meat."
"Yeah, yeah."
"Oho? The lovebirds are at it again!" Law looks up, obviously annoyed at the sudden interruption. The cause was a certain blond haired man, Phoenix, who leans over the railing with a sly grin on his face. "You guys are so sweet that it makes me sick!"
He sticks out his tongue and makes a fake barfing sound. Law can only glare as Luffy jumps to her feet and holds out an accusing finger in his direction. "The only bird here is you!"
"Eh? I can never get to Luffy when I tease you two." He grins. "It's always Law whose face goes red like a tomato!"
"Tomato?" She questions.
"Yeah, tomato. Do you like tomatoes?"
"I do! But I like Law even more… So don't make him turn into one! Meanie!"
"I think it's too late." Thatch interrupts the conversation with a grin as cheesy as Marco's. He points towards Law, who surely enough, has already become as red as a tomato. "He's a pretty big tomato; maybe I could make you tomato soup for lunch today!"
"No way!" She turns to Law and quickly grasps his shoulders, her face moving uncomfortably close to his own as she looks into his eyes with one of the most serious expressions he ever sees. "Even if you're the most delicious tomato in the world, I'll never eat you!"
Law suddenly feels all the blood rush to his head as the men in the background laugh at the situation he's in.
"I'm sure he's delicious. Why don't you take a bite? Or just lick him or something."
"Just one bite couldn't hurt, right?"
"He's the most delicious tomato you'll ever see!"
"I… L… Sh-shut… Lu-Luffy!" Law finally stutters out, grabbing her arm and preventing them from controlling her. "Let's get breakfast!" He runs off so fast that it leaves nothing but a trail of smoke behind.
"Young love's so nice isn't it?"
"It is, it is… Law's got it lucky too. Luffy's gonna grow up to be a real hottie."
"Your Luffy and my Luffy better be two different people." A blond haired teenager says with a darkened expression; there's a dark smile on his face as he wraps his arms around his crew mates. "They are… aren't they?"
Thatch and Marco's faces go pale as they find themselves unable to come up with an answer.
Sabo cracks his knuckles.
Seconds later the two would be found apologizing on their knees, with beat up faces.
"Sohrreh"
oOo
"Law!" It's midday when Law's most recent patient leaves and the door flies open in a way that tells him that it's definitely Luffy who came in. Lately she's had a lot more energy; they aren't just sudden bursts anymore, they're more lengthy. It makes Law happy that she's getting her energy back, but Law worries more now.
She's a recklessly clumsy girl, after all.
"Guess what? There's an island!" She grins, literally bouncing up and down as she talks to him. "It's an island! An island! It's a summer island! Let's go! Let's go explore! Lawww pleaseeeee!"
He places a hand on her head to calm her bouncing; surely enough, it works. She sends him the puppy dog eye that she knows he can't refuse; he agrees before he even knows what he's saying.
"YAY!" She grins; spinning repetitively in her spot as her straw hat falls to her back. She takes his arm and practically flies out the door, with him behind her.
"Going on a date?"
"Young love..." A long sigh comes after his words.
"Don't have to much fun!"
Law can't help but be happy at how quickly Luffy runs.
oOo
"Traitor."
"I couldn't help it!" Sabo nearly yells. The guilt is evident on his face, and he runs his hands through his hair in frustration. "I couldn't help it!" He repeats.
"Traitor."
"S...Shut up! I couldn't deal with the guilt, okay?"
"Traitor"
"Stop it..."
"You lied to me, Sabo." Ace says with a disapproving look in his eyes. "We both agreed that we would give up on Luffy and let her live her life perfectly happy, without us. We both promised each other; do you not respect promises anymore, Sabo?"
"I do, it's just that she was right there... And I just needed to apologize!"
"So you could rid yourself of the guilt? Even though she still hates me?" Ace frowns. "I miss having her as my little sister too, I miss playing with her and talking together and the three of us just being a family... But now it's just you two... Because you've abandoned me too, haven't you?"
"No!" Sabo retorts. "Just explain why everything changed, I'm sure she'll forgive you too. She's Luffy. Even though she's older and just little bit bigger, she's still Luffy."
"I suppose..." Ace sighs. "But what I did was awful. I ruined her life, Sabo. I don't want her to forgive me. She's happy right now, isn't she? Please continue keeping her happy. It's good to see her smile again."
"It can be the three of us again, Ace. She'll accept your apology! She... She still blames herself.."
"Do you know what Luffy's first memory is?"
"I don't."
"My mother was pregnant with Luffy longer than she should've been, she wanted to hide her existence until it was safe to have her. As a result, she died when Luffy was born... And... At her funeral, Luffy was giggling... I was a stupid child, and ignored the fact that she was just a baby... A newborn at that... I said; 'What the hell are you laughing at? Laughing won't bring back the woman you killed, murderer. Just die already.'"
"She remembered that?"
"Yeah..." He shakes his head in shame. "What a wonderful older brother I was, huh?"
"Like you said earlier, you were a kid who had just lost his mother. You shouldn't blame yourself for everything either." Sabo places a hand on his brother's shoulder. "Just apologize. Luffy will understand."
Ace wants to say that he's afraid, but he doesn't. It's unneeded, because Sabo knows already.
"Thanks, Sabo."
oOo
A/N: I got so many reviews, I was so happy! I'm really sorry that this took so long to update; I've been oddly busy even though it's summer.
I hope you enjoyed reading this chapter, leave a review and let me know what you think! (I've sent sneak peaks out to those who requested it, and I'll be doing the same for the next chapter.)
Q: In previous chapters, Luffy trained a lot but got weaker when the seastone was lodged into her back; if the seastone is removed, what will happen?
A: It will have the opposite effect. Luffy will get even stronger as more of the seastone is removed.
Q: Will Luffy's brother's ever find out about her medical condition
A: Yes, this was planned quite some time ago. I just haven't written it yet.
Q: Weren't there, like, twenty one chapters? What happened?
A: The chapters I've been posting have been barely one thousand words long, so I wanted to consolidate them and then start making chapters longer. So chapters will be at least two thousand words long from now on.
