Disclaimer: Is Gen 5 decent yet? No? Well then I don't own Pokemon.

Fennekin was knocked back, utterly useless against the combined assault of the Pokemon around it. The men surrounding Skylar grinned at him maliciously and the vicious looking creatures they commanded slowly advanced on him...

30 Minutes Before

Skylar and his fire type walked along the dusty road. The human had his hands in his pockets and was looking around absentmindedly while his foxlike pokemon sniffed the ground curiously and observed the surroundings. Having been raised in a lab it was unused to the outside world and as such everything was fascinating to it.

While the creature was filled with light hearted and whimsical thoughts of curiosity Skylar was not so fortunate. He'd been reflecting upon his behavior when Jacob had stolen the pokemon. He'd flown completely off the handle and he'd been wondering what had possessed him to do it.

He'd never been one to lose his temper and usually worked situations out peacefully, had going on a journey been so enticing that he lost control of himself? Was he truly that petty?

However it had also shown him that things weren't as simple as he'd often believed them to be. He'd lived a relatively sheltered life, he himself had never really left Vaniville town, his father worked at Wulfric's gym certainly but he'd grown up in a small town. He'd learnt that people did bad things because they were malicious. But were things really that simple?

Suddenly a voice could be heard. It was quite high and he found it difficult to tell whether it belonged to a boy or a girl all that was apparent was that whoever it belonged to was young. Turning around Skylar realized it was indeed a young boy.

He wore shorts and a t-shirt despite the fact that it seemed to be quite temperate and his hair was cropped quite short. His grin was a fiery one and he seemed to be full of energy and passion.

"I challenge you to a pokemon battle!" He exclaimed pointing directly at his challenger for emphasis.

"You're on kid." Skylar replied.

A battle was the perfect thing to get his mind off of the thoughts he'd been entertaining, and some friendly banter would lift his spirits.

"Hey, I'm 10 years old!" The boy replied angrily.

"Like I said." Skyalr replied which angered the younger boy more.

"We'll see who's laughing when I'm done with you!" The boy yelled.

"Heh, Fennekin, show him what you've got!" Skylar replied, summoning his pokemon to his aid.

"PIDGEY, GO!" The youngster yelled eagerly.

The bird and the fox stared one another down with intensity as their trainers mirrored their expression. Until Skylar relaxed, closed his eyes and shrugged.

"I'll let you start. You need every advantage you can get." He taunted.

"You'll regret that, Pidgey, use Tackle!" He yelled as the bird began to flap its wings before beating them in a particularly powerful flap which sent it flying down towards the fox.

"Fennekin, dodge and use ember!" Skylar commanded while gesturing with his arm.

"Wait, no!" The younger boy yelled.

The bird had trapped itself. It continued down towards the same spot, until Fennekin dodged and it used its wings to correct its trajectory. However it was struck but a short burst of flame which caused it to flinch in pain.

However despite the success of the fiery attack the flying type was still hurtling towards the ground and it would inevitably hit the fox unless Skylar acted. Which he did.

"Alright Fennekin, dodge!" Skylar commanded cooly.

The foxlike pokemon attempted to dodge by moving backwards but the Pidgey was able to flap its wings and successfully land a tackle. Skylar was dumbfounded.

"Alright! Good work, now use tackle again!" The youngster gleefully commanded.

The bird obliged and flapped its wings before taking off in order to land another attack on it opponent. However Skylar knew he needed to stop this threat.

"Fennekin, counter with a close up scratch attack!" The older trainer commanded.

The fox was able to successfully land the attack but Pidgey's impetus still meant it collided with the pokemon which sent it flying back. Fennekin seemed unusually tired, perhaps the fight against Froakie had affected it more than it cared to let on. Constant dodging was quite exhausting after all.

"Fennekin, finish it off with ember!" Skylar commanded as another jet of flame collided with the Pidgey finishing it off.

"What?" The younger trainer asked tentatively as he saw his pokemon fall to the ground, utterly defeated.

Skylar clenched his fist and pulled it down while Fennekin grinned while looking exhausted due to the clash it had just experienced and the damage it had taken. Skyalr was about to gloat about his victory but he caught himself just in time. He was about to do it again, think only of himself and hurt another...

"You fought well, I'm impressed!" Skylar complimented his opponent suddenly which caused the younger boy to look at him in a startled manner after returning his pokemon.

"Y-you really mean that?" The younger boy asked timidly.

"You betcha, that was a fantastic fight. I really enjoyed it!" Skylar replied with a grin.

"Gee thanks." The younger boy replied.

"Hey, no worries. It was nice meeting you, I hope we can battle again someday." The older of the two trainers explained wistfully.

"It'll be tons of fun! Oh and by the way you should really consider shorts!" He exclaimed happily.

Skylar grinned and waved before he began to continue down the road. He returned to his thoughts of his behavior and demeanor before realizing that the youngster he'd just battled was following him.

"Is something wrong?" The trainer asked awkwardly.

"No, I was just heading to the Pokemon Centre in Santalune City." The younger trainer replied in the same awkward tone.

"A Pokemon Centre? What's that?" Skylar asked with genuine confusion.

The younger boy looked dumbfounded. Who didn't know what a Pokemon Centre was? They were a feature shared by every town in the region and possibly the world! Well maybe there were one or two town's without one...

"A Pokemon Centre is a place where any trainer can go. They heal your pokemon for free and even offer meals and accommodation to trainers who need somewhere to stay on their journey." The younger boy explained.

"That sounds useful." Skylar replied.

"Yeah it is. And Santalune isn't that far from here!" The boy explained. And it was true.

Although most cities and towns were relatively spread out Vaniville and Santalune were an exception to the rule. They were built quite close together and it was the only place besides his home town that he'd actually visited.

The exact reasoning was unknown but it was rumored that the two founders of the town had been siblings. The founder of Santalune City had been the younger sibling, the daughter who was usually overlooked in the family. The founder of Vaniville had been the older brother and the pride of the family.

Despite the fact he was loved by his family he was not a kind individual, he was spiteful, arrogant, egotistical and self obsessed. And he couldn't stand nobody to posses or have done something that he himself had not.

When Santalune was by the daughter her older brother hadn't wanted to be outdone and had decided to found his own town. It was apparent that Vaniville was likely to become a well populated and popular destination and the younger sibling had resigned to her fate.

That was until one day a lone Roselia appeared in the town. It was sick and injured, its petals were wilting and it was clearly dying. The sister had found it and nursed it back to health and the two had become quite close. However soon the Roselia had to leave and the sister allowed it to.

However soon the petal pokemon had returned and it had come with a great number of its kind. They all began to shower the town in petals and people from all around came to see the amazing occurrence. Quickly the town had become incredibly robust and full of life and people.

The economy boomed and vendors set up shop all around, taking advantage of the tour sit attraction to sell their wares. Eventually over the years they married and settled down or merely established permanent shops. The town soon became a city but still the petals rained.

It seemed that everybody was content. All except for her brother who was livid. His sister had made her town into a city while his was still small and quaint. He would not stand for that! So one day he organized a team of mercenaries who snuck into the city at night and abdicated the original Roselia. The one who was nursed back to health by his own sister.

He knew that where it went the entire group went. However the petal Pokemon saw the evil in his heart and would not cause the petals to rain. So he beat it. Regularly. For months.

Meanwhile the petals fell no more, but Santalune was still a relatively large city.

However the younger sister worried day and night for her friend until eventually the brother returned and threw the pokemon down at her doorstep, furious. However the sister was heartbroken. She looked at her Pokemon and gently held it, the pokemon was happy and it died contented in the arms of its friend.

Soon skater that a Roselia fountain was commissioned and it had stood ever since, mourning the passing of the founder's friend.

"Um, are you okay?" The younger trainer asked which caused Skyalr to jolt back to reality.

"Oh yeah, just got sidetracked for a minute there." The older trainer replied in a friendly manner.

"Oh good. I can tell you what I wanted to. Kalos has this new technique that's just reaching the outside world now. They only discovered it recently. With it they can heal a pokemon instantly!" The boy explained excitedly.

"What? How do they do that?" Skylar asked curiously.

"Uh...something to do with radiation or something. I dunno." The younger trainer replied.

"Oh, okay then." Skylar replied looking slightly disgruntled.

"Yeah. Anyway, want to walk to Santalune together?" He asked hopefully.

"Sure!" Skylar replied.

15 Minutes Later

"And shorts are really comfy and easy to wear! You should really get a pair!" The eager youngster explained energetically.

"I'll make sure to get a pair..." Skyalr grunted as he walked along.

The boy had den nothing but talk about shorts the entire trip. It had driven him to the brink, he couldn't handle any more advertising for shorts! However he was saved by the fact that they'd arrived at the Pokemon Centre. They walked inside and Skylar took in his all of his surroundings with interest.

The building had a very homely and informal feeling about it. There were numerous coffee tables around the place with gossip magazines and other papers all over them. There were a few posters stuck on the wall and three woman who looked oddly alike with pink hair stood behind counter with an odd machine behind each.

"Hello there, welcome to the pokemon centre, how can I help you?" The one in the centre asked Skyalr while the youngster was already off to the one on the right.

"I'd like my pokemon healed." Skyalr replied as he walked over to the table, Fennekin in his arms.

"You'll need to return your pokemon to its Pokeball and hand it to me." She replied in a friendly tone.

Skylar obliged and handed his pokemon over. The woman placed the iconic ball in an odd machine that resembled an incubator and it began to glow. An image of Fennekin quickly appeared on the centre of the screen while Pidgey could be seen on the right.

Suddenly the machine died down and Skylar had his foxlike pokemon returned to him.

"Thank you, we hope to see you again." The nurse happily stated with a grin on her face that caused her eyes to close.

"Thanks." Skylar replied before quickly meeting with the youngster.

"Alright, I'm off to go and train some more with Pidgey, maybe find some more trainers, we really need to work on his mobility, he was too clumsy to take down Fennekin. You wanna come?" The young trainer asked.

Skylar decided that he'd heard enough about shorts for one day and politely declined the offer.

"Nah, I reckon I'll have a look around for a bit. We've still got a few hours till night." Skylar replied.

"Oh...well I guess I'll see you tonight. Or around." The boy replied.

"Uh yeah." The teen replied.

"Well bye." The two stated in synch before walking off in opposite directions.

As soon as the younger boy was out of sight Skylar released Fennekin and breathed a sigh of relief. He looked down at his pokemon and smiled kindly.

"Well looks like it's just..." Skyalr was cut off by the sound of a cry for help.

Nobody else was around and as such Skylar took it upon himself to go and investigate, neither him nor Fennekin needed any prompts to do so and they both ran towards the source of the noise.

They came across a single man in a leather jacket with a Mighteyana grinning maliciously over a small girl with a Roselia. Skylar instantly tensed up. This was all too much like the legend of how his own town and this city had come into existence. The older brother stood over the younger sister. Although they were not likely related as they looked completely different facially and the boy had a black Mohawk and the girl light blonde hair it was still al too familiar.

"Hey, leave her alone." Skylar boldly stated as he walked forwards.

The punk raised an eyebrow curiously before grinning cruelly.

"Heh, looks like we've got ourselves a hero. Come on out boys." The man mockingly stated.

Upon his command numerous doors opened and from them emerged several men of various statures all dressed similarly to the one with the Mighteyana with various dark type pokemon. Houndors and Scraggys were abundant among them. Skylar gritted his teeth before a cackle came from the little girl.

"Ha ha ha. Oh, I just love it when the person's noble!" The girl cackled as the men circled in on Skylar.

Grimacing he pointed towards the Mighteyana.

"Fennekin, use ember!" He commanded and his loyal pokemon obliged.

However it was no use. A dark pulse from the wolf like creature collided head on with the fiery attack and was far too powerful. The pokemon was not only evolved, but at a much higher level. So essentially nothing that he could have done would have been successful.

Following up the dark type attack from the wolf one of the Scraggy leapt up and delivered a powerful kick to the fox which sent it flying.

Fennekin was knocked back, utterly useless against the combined assault of the Pokemon around it. The men surrounding Skylar grinned at him maliciously and the vicious looking creatures they commanded slowly advanced on him...

Until a shadow flashed past and in an instant all of the Pokemon excluding Mighteyana fell to the ground instantly knocked out. However Mighteyana was panting and had obviously taken quite a beating from the attack. Looking around for the source of the attack Skylar saw a Weavile with its arms crossed and heard a very familiar voice.

"Guess that makes it 2 to 0 kiddo."

A/N: And that brings us to a close on another chapter of Pokemon X and Y: Tales of Kalos.

And we're on a bit of a cliff hanger here. Who is this mysterious savior of Skylar? Find out next time.

Whenever that may be...

Anyway, Ydream08, thanks for the advice and hopefully I added some more dynamics. I'm still just in the early stages of the story. So things will become more dynamic, I just want to take things slowly. It'll become more exciting so bear with me.
