Disclaimer: I own the OC's in this story. Not pokemon.

Skylar turned around to see a familiar face indeed. Standing behind him was his very own uncle. His mother's brother, and now, his savior. And as he'd implied it most certainly hadn't been the first time either.

Back when he had been a young child Skylar had been playing on the outskirts of town late at night. He wasn't allowed to but he did it due to how exciting it had seemed. Of course it hadn't been all that exciting when he was surrounded by a pack of vicious looking Houndoor's.

But fortunately his uncle had been in town and had gone out to look for him after noticing he was absent. He was able to use his Sneasel and Gyrados to knock out the Pokemon with ease while he grabbed Skyalr and got away.

Since then the man had jokingly kept a tally on the number of times they'd saved the others life. And of course Skylar had yet to do anything to save the life of his uncle so the man seemed to be well and truly ahead.

"What the?!" The young girl asked.

"Umm, Mighteyana, use Bite!" The leader of the gang commanded.

His pokemon obeyed the command it had been given, clearly relishing another opportunity to act savagely. It was clearly a poorly raised pokemon due to its demeanor and complete willingness to tear things apart. But the creature could hardly be blamed for the poor choices of its trainer, and perhaps he himself didn't know how to train a pokemon well?

The run in with Jacob had most certainly changed Skylar's perspective on things. He viewed the world with a very different eye than he had in the past. Things weren't always black and white, he hadn't been on a journey for a full day and he'd learnt that! What this would mean for him as a person would become apparent in the future.

However right now Weavile had some serious badassery to attend to.

"Weavile, Ice Punch!" Skylar's uncle commanded.

The dark type vanished in an instant leaving nothin but a faint shimmer where its hand had been positioned while glowing with icy power. The attack struck Mighteyana under the jaw at blinding speeds and the powerful uppercut sent the wolf somersaulting through the air before landing in a heap while Weavile landed on the ground silently.

"N-no way!" The punk exclaimed in utter shock.

"Ugh, Roselia, pin it down with a Stun Spore!" The young girl exclaimed while grimacing.

Her strategy was clear and simple, stop the pokemon with blinding speed by preventing it from moving, however unfortunately for her she hadn't been the first with this idea as Skylar's uncle didn't even seem to flinch or stop to think.

"Weavile, Blizzard." He replied as the dark type nodded before opening it's mouth.

A powerful jet of air emitted from its mouth with great deals of snow within them. They caused the spores to float back at the rose pokemon before it actually began to shiver from the cold and then collapse.

"Ugh, useless thing!" The girl yelled as she kicked her pokemon.

Skylar gritted his teeth, if there was one thing that he couldn't abide it was cruelty. It was part of the reason he'd been so regret ridden about his actions towards Jacob. And although he was trying to look at things in a balanced way this crossed the line!

"What's wrong with you?!" Skylar roared angrily.

Weavile however kept its cool and vanished before reappearing next to its trainer with a pokeball in one claw and the rose pokemon in the other. Skylar's uncle proceeded to pick up the rose type and return it to the pokeball which Weavile had taken. Fennekin was just starting to stand up and the duo were starting to look worried.

"Let's get out of here, its not like we need their money right guys?" The little girl asked nervously.

"Right!" They all hastily added before promptly running as if their lives depended on it.

They knew that Weavile could likely take them all out with relative ease and prevent them all from leaving, but Weavile did nothing. And Skylar was confused.

"Why didn't you stop them? They hurt a pokemon they robbed who knows how many innocents, they manipulated people into trying to help a little girl only to be robbed! Why didn't you get Weavile to put a wall of ice, or just appear in front of them and stop them in their tracks?" Skylar demanded.

"Because they aren't worth it." He replied which startled the trainer slightly, the man was usually jovial and fun loving and something gave him the impression that he too was displeased by the circumstances.

"But anyway, people will be people, I'd better drop this Roselia off at the Pokemon Centre, you up for a sundae after that?" The man asked cheekily.

"Sure thing Uncle Ares." The teen replied with a grin.

Ice cream would keep his mind off of the thoughts he'd been entertaining, things that were much too complicated for him to work out in one day. However a Quadruple Choc Ripple Split with M&Ms dipped in chocolate topped with strawberry sauce was well within his abilities to 'resolve' in a day.

The Winter's House

Skylar's mother yawned as she clicked through various webpages. She was bored and looking to see some kind of old fight in the pokemon league. There had been some real doozies in the past and some of the greatest battles that had ever happened occurred in amongst the rough of people with a vastly superior team and level of skill effortlessly sweeping anybody they came across.

Suddenly however the windows all vanished and in their place another screen appeared, this one was a pure blue and had a phone icon in the centre of the screen. Upon reading the name Skylar's mother smiled.

"Why hello there honey." She greeted happily.

"Hey Wendy, I'm going to be late home. Wulfric's really starting to step up the training we're doing. And with Skylar gone I figured it'd be the perfect time to really crack down." He explained and his wife smiled ruefully.

"Yeah, that sounds good." She replied wistfully.

"Is something wrong?" Mr Winter asked.

"Oh, well you know how it is Cloud, I've known that Skylar would eventually go on a journey, he is your son after all, but I just didn't think it'd come so soon." She explained with a sad smile on her face.

"I know how you feel Wendy, he'll probably show up at the gym before you know it!" The father of Sky added.

Wendy laughed. Despite the fact that her husband could seem to be quite am intimidating man he was in fact a kind hearted soul and a but of a comedian. Quite a lot like their son.

"Speaking of which I encountered Skylar today." Cloud stated.

"Oh really, how was he?" Wendy asked.

"He learnt an important lesson about life today." Mr Winter explained which caused his wife to raise one eyebrow.

"And what was that?" She asked bemusedly.

"That things aren't always black and white."

Santalune City

"I learnt an important lesson about life today." Skylar explained which caused his uncle to raise one eyebrow.

"And what was that?" He asked bemusedly.

"That things aren't always black and white." He explained before devouring another spoonful of his comically large sundae.

He'd been forced to return his pokemon in the sundae bar due to their specific rules against fire types of any kind. Vanilite's and their evolutionary line were also banned, bad for business.

"So how's your mother?" Ares asked as he too devoured some of his sundae.

"Yeah, she's pretty good, she gave me the letter from Professor Sycamore that said I could go on a journey." Skylar explained before suddenly he realized just how long the day had been.

It seemed like an eternity ago when he had woken up, just expecting another birthday, had pokemon really changed his life that much in such a short period of time?

"So, have you caught any other pokemon?" The uncle of the trainer asked curiously while pulling out a piece of chocolate flake to eat.

"Umm, well I've been so preoccupied with Fennekin that I haven't really had any time. And I haven't encountered any yet." He explained.

"Heh, not to worry the road between Vaniville Town and Santalune City isn't exactly full to the brim of wild pokemon itching for a fight." The experienced trainer explained.

"I did however encounter a boy who was full to the brim of how great shorts were." The younger trainer explained.

"I'm not sure that I want to know..." Ares replied.

Skylar laughed. It felt good to have his old uncle back, the jovial, humorous Ares who he loved and knew. He reminded him greatly of his own mother due to his manner of speech, the way he carried himself and the way he acted towards him. Friendly and ever so slightly condescending in a positive manner.

"Anyway, with the trainer of this Roselia out of the way it needs someone to help it recover." Ares explained.

"Well then, I suppose that it's a good thing you're so experienced in the arts of raising pokemon!" Skylar replied happily as he ate some more of his ice cream.

"Actually...I was thinking that trying to get this pokemon to trust you would be good experience." The older trainer explained.

"M-me? But aren't pokemon delicate?" Skyalr asked shocked.

"Yes, but I think you've got what it takes, you've only had that Fennekin of yours for a few hours and it already trusts you unconditionally." Ares explained as he placed the pokeball on the table.

This was a huge decision for Skylar, to accept a pokemon that had been hurt by the one it trusted most was a huge responsibility, and he wasn't sure if he was ready. However Ares trusted him and Skylar didn't want to let him down.

"Alright, I'll do it." Skylar replied and Ares grinned.

"Knew you could do it!" His uncle said grinning.

The two continued to eat ice cream until they had cleared their bowl and Skylar had a minor case of brain freeze.

"Ugh, I'd better get to the Pokemon Centre, it's getting dark." Skylar explained.

"I'll walk with you." Ares replied.

Skylar then picked up his new pokeball and walked away from the shop with Ares. The walk wasn't too far as the ice cream shop was just down the street from the Pokemon Centre and as Skylar passed a boutique he made a mental note to check it out the next day.

"So, I guess this is goodbye then." Skylar replied.

"Yeah, but I'm sure to see you around again kiddo. I can't wait to see that Roselia!" Ares explained as he walked off.

Just before Skylar turned around and walked into the pokemon centre Ares pulled out a pokeball and released a Talonflame which promptly took off. Ares waved to Skylar before his speedy pokemon elegantly dived down at high velocity and picked up the older trainer in its talons.

Skyalr waved as he mentally noted. 'I need to get myself one of those.' Before grinning.

Skyalr then walked into the Pokemon Centre and was able to book a room. He decided to get to bed quite early and was walking along the hallway when he heard a familiar voice.

"Hey Skylar! Got any shorts yet?"

The trainer just groaned.

A/N: To make up for the slight wait on the last chapter I released this one as soon as possible XD

But anyway the rescuer was indeed another OC the uncle of Skylar, Ares! Now you're probably wondering about the name. Ares is indeed the god of war but there is another reason.

Ares is Skylar's uncle on his mother's side, so he's her brother and they're both named after wind. His mother's name is Wendy as in Windy and his uncle's name is Ares as in air.

Skylar's father however is named Cloud and he himself is Sky(lar) which is a pun to show similarities between characters.

But at any rate I'm pleased to announce that I will now accept any OC's you have to offer. They can either be PMed or put in the reviews section, I'm just looking for some new, interesting character designs.

But anyway, here's the template.
