Here's chapter 7, enjoy~!
She opened her eyes, praying this time would be different. She'd have another dream, a good one. As her body looked around, despair filled her up, making her let out an internal sigh. She had no hopes of ever controlling herself in this dream. She was but a spectator. Her curious body took a few steps, trying to assess where it had landed. Had it even worked? She vaguely remembered where she was from seven years ago. Was it the palace? It looked like an underground hallway, probably near one of the dungeons.
As she walked, she began noticing signs of battle. Rocks having been flung everywhere, walls damaged, blood smears all around her. It felt like a small war had happened, and she'd wondered if there were any casualties.
Her question may have been soon put to rest though, as she saw a hooded figure with streaks of blonde hair laying on the ground. Her body had run over to the person, their aura all too similar. Scarily, frighteningly familiar. She'd knelt down, removed the hood and stood there. She felt empty. How had this happened? How?!
She cupped the lifeless blonde's cheek as tears slowly trickled down onto the cold body. Wanting to hold onto her lover, she moved her arm over to the girl's right side, wanting to bring her in. Shock registered into her however when she noticed something was missing. She let go of the girl completely, gently putting her down. She had no right arm. The girl didn't have a right arm. She wailed and heaved at what this meant. Her Lucy. This was her Lucy. She hadn't died when she thought she had...She'd gone back to the past. How? Why didn't she take Erza with her? Why was she a lifeless block of ice in front of her?!
"You don't deserve her either way," a somewhat demonic voice let out, causing her to turn around. She had control of her body now. She couldn't understand why. This wasn't how this dream usually went...
She glared at the white haired Erza, who simply walked away, disappearing. She reappeared further away, with Lucy in tow. A frightened look on her face. Erza ran to catch up to them. Who knew what would happen to Lucy if she didn't! But she couldn't. An invisible wall hit her as she began pounding, trying to find a way out.
This couldn't have been happening. She'd lost Lucy three times now. She couldn't lose her a fourth time!
"Lucy! I'm on my way," she roared, pounding the wall to the point of bleeding. But there was nothing she could do. As the Ten Commandments transformed and made its way into the blonde, she screamed, "LUUUCYYY!"
She woke up, her throat parched, her body sweaty. She was taking deep breathes, heaving. What she didn't notice instantly was that Natsu had screamed the moment she'd woken up, and he was now sitting on his butt, some bandages in hand and a look of shock on his face.
As her breathing calmed down, she looked over to him, unsure of what he was staring at, until she noticed the things in his hands.
"What the hell is that?" Natsu let out shakily as he pointed to her arm.
She covered it with her hand, a clear glare on her face. "What do you think you'redoing?"
"No," he shook his head. "I ask the questions here! Where the hell is your Fairy Tail mark? Why do you have a dark guild's mark on you instead?"
That she did. In place of her Fairy Tail mark was that of Tartarus, with scars on it, as though she had attempted to conceal it with wounds.
"I have nothing to say to you," she let out, grabbing her things and turning her back to him.
"Don't you walk away from me!" He roared, charging head on into her. He would not let her get away. He needed answers, for Lucy's sake.
Erza Scarlet was not in love with Lucy Heartfilia. She loved her of course, but she was not in love with her. Her heart was slowly swaying towards her old rival, now close friend, Mirajane. But at this moment, she felt responsible for everything Lucy was feeling. If it weren't for Erza, Lucy wouldn't have run away into the forest to be sucked out by Anima seven years ago. She wouldn't have met Knightwalker, she wouldn't have fallen in love with Knightwalker, and she wouldn't have brought her to Earthland. That would mean that neither the red haired nor white haired Knightwalker would have been in Earthland at that moment if it weren't for Scarlet. If only she'd stopped Lucy then and lied to her...Told her she was in love with her...She would have been able to lessen the blonde's pain.
She could still make it. Maybe. If she confessed to Lucy on their job, what would the girl do? Would she reject her? Would she yell at her? Did Erza really want to take the chance of ruining their friendship? Did it matter though? She was filled with guilt at the amount of pain she'd caused Lucy.
"Erza? Is that the cave?"
Hearing the blonde's voice, she looked up to where she was pointing. It was quite a ways ahead, high up, but it was certainly an opening to a cave. She nodded.
"Maybe we should make camp though. We've been walking for more than half a day. Why don't we rest up and make our way in a few hours?" Erza looked to Lucy for her opinion.
"I am getting pretty sore," the blonde grumbled, accepting the idea.
Noticing the sound of running water, possibly a waterfall, Erza indicated to Lucy to follow. If they could camp at a waterfall, that'd be pretty lucky for them. They'd possibly have fish they could catch if the food ran out, and they'd have fresh water to drink throughout their stay, even if just a few hours. They could possibly take a quick dip as well, given the heat wave and Lucy's sore feet.
Just as they went through the trees and bushes, spreading them apart to find the waterfall, they saw two women standing, both partially naked, in the water. The white haired one had a spear and was attempting to catch fish from what Scarlet noticed. The moment the other one, with inhumane hands and legs moved, Erza glared. They'd been noticed. Lucy's form was excellent and so had hers been, as such, she knew that woman was no joke. The demonic woman, with her hair down, swiftly grabbed onto the white haired fisherwoman's lips. The surprised white haired almost tripped as a result, deepening their kiss. She wrapped both her arms around the demon, trying to steady herself and her spear.
As Kyouka let go of her lips to gasp for air, she smiled. Erza smiled back, a bit confused, "What was that all about? I lost the fish I was about to catch."
"I got in the mood," the demon whispered, stealing the younger woman's lips once more for a brief instant.
Unwrapping her arms from Kyouka's waist, Erza glared into the bushes. For a brief instant, she'd felt a presence there, as though they were being watched.
"Lucy, you have to stay calm," Scarlet whispered, her hand over the blonde's mouth.
"Do you think you can find the gem on your own?"
"Eeeeh?" Erza drew out, trying to catch another fish.
"Sayla just contacted me, seems some trouble's brewing at base," she dressed up.
"Or, she's just lying in an attempt to get you back over there and in bed with her," she mumbled as her spear missed a fish.
Going around and wrapping her arms around the partially naked white haired girl, who had underwear akin to boxer shorts and a sports bra on, she planted a kiss on her shoulders. "Don't go acting like a child now."
"Yeah, yeah, how many do we need?"
"One gem should be enough," she whispered as she lowered her hands on top of Erza's, mercilessly stabbing the spear into a defenceless fish. "That wasn't so hard right?" She grinned.
Letting go of Erza, the demon turned around to leave. "Kyouka," Erza whispered. The latter heard, but continued on her way.
In one swift motion, she was pinned to a tree, the ex-knight not pleased. "Kyouka," she growled. "What do you think you're doing?"
Cupping the younger girl's cheek, she traced her lips with her thumb and smiled, "Taking a gamble," as she leaned in and kissed her once more, before prying herself out of her grasp and running away.
Erza growled, more so to herself this time. As she put the fish in a basket, she went to catch others, ignoring the two staring at her from the bushes.
"Erza..That's the person who attacked me..." Why? Why was the woman so familiar? Was she Erza or wasn't she? How could she be Erza if Erza was out on a job with Natsu? Lucy needed answers.
The woman was chasing after the fish with her eyes, waiting for the opportune moment to strike. She'd found it. Quickly turning around, she lunged, stabbing two fish with one attack, throwing them in the basket.
Seeing the fish murderer's back, Lucy's teeth began to chatter. "T-that scar...I know t-that scar. Erza...I know that back," Lucy pointed to the woman in the water, her eyes beginning to water. What was going on? "Why does she have her back? Her scars? Erza...Is that...Erza?"
"What are you saying, Lucy? This woman not only has different features, but a different voice! Knightwalker's already with Natsu isn't she? What would she be doing here?" Erza got up, attempting to drag Lucy along with her. They'd rest elsewhere, somewhere away from the waterfall. There was no way she was going to let Lucy get hurt any further than she already had.
But Lucy forcefully let go of her hand. Scarlet was acting strange, which meant there was something suspicious about this woman after all, given she sucked at acting.
The woman moved to start a fire and cook the fish, sitting on one of the rocks around the camp fire, "How long are you going to pretend to hide in that bush?"
Shocked at being found, Lucy got out into the open, a confused look on her face. "Who are you?"
"Why would you ask that instead of wondering why I tried to kill you?"
The blonde gulped. Seeing the woman who had attacked her, casually sitting with no killer intent...It felt like she was a whole other person than who Lucy remembered. She was gorgeous...and she really looked like a white haired Erza.
Scarlet got out of the bushes, making no contact with the fisherwoman whatsoever.
"How do you have that scar?" Lucy mumbled. When no answer was given, she let out even louder, "How do you have that scar?! Why do you have that scar?! Answer me! Who are you?!"
"I have no obligation to answer any of your questions. You can rest here but don't get in my way," she glared.
"Lucy, come on, we should get cleaned up," Scarlet pushed Lucy to the water, as their new friend watched, nibbling on some fish. She didn't really like the fact of sharing a space with Knightwalker, specially this Knightwalker, but she had no choice, knowing that Lucy had no intention of going anywhere until she got some answers.
Erza requiped into her usual black bikini, diving under the waterfall, as Lucy took her shoes off, soaking her feet in the water, looking at the white haired woman who looked at her intently, but with no real emotion on her face. Just as Lucy was going to open her mouth to say something however, her feet were grabbed and she was pulled underwater.
As she watched her girlfriend, or...ex-girlfriend, playing around in the water with Scarlet, Knightwalker couldn't help but wonder how things had gone so wrong. She had to pretend she didn't know Lucy. Part of her was doing it because she'd been pissed at the fact that Lucy hadn't realized the Erza she'd been sleeping with was a fake, or whatever the hell she was, while another was that...Lucy had been happy with that imposter. She'd wanted Erza back, and she'd gotten her wish. As much as she loved Lucy however, Knightwalker felt as though she had no right to get in their way, when she'd been too busy sleeping with Kyouka to even notice her memories were being played with and she was being corrupted to turn into a demon.
Now that she was back to her old self, to an extent, she wondered what Kyouka had planned. She felt as though the demon wanted to make her hate Lucy, create a darkness in her that would corrupt her to unimaginable lengths. It had partially worked. She was incredibly upset at the fact that Lucy had replaced her without any suspicions to the woman in her bed. But at the same time, her love for Lucy was too strong. She'd waited for the girl for seven years, only to have her snatched away. She didn't hate Lucy. The person she hated was that other Knightwalker.
She sighed as she took the last bite of her fish, leaving the other two for Scarlet and Lucy. Closing her eyes and folding her arms, she thought back to when she'd received the scar Lucy had pointed to.
"Did she leave those for us?" Lucy looked to the fishes, skewered and near the fire, as she took her wet clothes off to dry, leaving on only her undergarments.
"Probably," Scarlet sat down near the fire, taking one of the fish and giving it to Lucy, whose eyes were on the third, sleeping, woman.
"Erza," she called to her friend, pointing to the woman's spear. "That's the Ten Commandments...She tried to kill me with it."
"I'm sure an explanation will pop up soon, Lucy. But we should really complete this job first. I promise you, whatever questions you have, you'll eventually get your answer," she took a bite of the fish.
"You never used to hide things from me, so why now?" The blonde had lost her appetite. Erza was one of her closest friends. So why? Why was she hiding things from her now of all times? Why was she lying? Acting all suspicious?
"I'm sorry," the knight looked away in shame. "I know I'm not acting like a true friend right now. But please, Lucy. You have to believe me when I say I would never do anything to hurt you, okay?"
The blonde turned to look at the redhead who was clearly upset. Feeling bad for doubting her friend, she held her, wrapping her arms around her neck, pulling them close to each other.
"Sorry," she let out with a small grin. "So, we need to get some gems right?"
"Yeah. Hopefully we can get into and out of the cave without taking too long."
"The Cave of Truth? Ha," the sleeping woman laughed, opening an eye. "Give up. Once you set foot in that cave, you won't be coming out."
"What do you mean?" Erza let out forcefully. "We overheard you with that demon woman. Aren't you going there yourself?"
"I am, but what makes you think I'd take you with me?"
Lucy smiled, "We never even mentioned the possibility. You're not as scary or evil as you look, are you?"
As the woman looked to Lucy without an ounce of amusement, Erza whispered to her white haired counterpart, "You dug that hole yourself," causing the other woman to glare.
"Fine. You can come, but let me make something very clear. I have a job to do, and if you so much as hinder me for a second, you're on your own."
"She's a tsundere, isn't she?" Lucy grinned to Erza.
"I hate you both."
Lucy couldn't sleep. The white haired woman, who had yet to give up her name, had told them that they'd depart for the cave in the morning, instead of trekking through the night. As such, they'd spent the rest of the evening just talking, with minimal input from their new friend. Lucy had asked her thousands of questions, only to have them ignored. And yet, she hadn't asked the one question that the woman would have answered. Why did she target her? Lucy wanted to know, but there were other questions she felt had priority, such as, who the woman was, why she resembled Erza, if she was Erza, why her voice was demonic, where she got her scars.
She got up from her uncomfortable sleeping spot on the ground and looked to the woman, her back casually to the wall, sleeping peacefully. Bit by bit, she moved closer to her, kneeling down. Looking at the sleeping white haired woman up close, she couldn't help but feel a strange connection to her. Her gut told her this woman was Erza. White hair, white eyebrows, pale skin, red eyes, demonic voice. It didn't matter. This woman was Erza, and she knew it. So why? Why was Erza pretending not to know her? Was this the same Erza who had gone on a job with Natsu? Probably not. This one looked younger. It didn't make any sense, and she'd eventually talk to the Erza who'd been with Natsu, but first she needed to figure out who this one was.
Gently cupping the woman's cheek, she felt the warmth she'd always known. The warmth of her lover, her soul mate. Her eyes widened in shock as she noticed however, the tips of the white hair slowly turning red.
The woman leaned into her touch, as the sun slowly began to rise. She was mumbling in her sleep, saying words out of order, in no coherent fashion. The blonde couldn't understand anything she was hearing, until she heard one clear word, "Lucy." At the shock and unexpectedness of hearing her name, she let out a loud gasp and fell on her back, causing the other woman to open her eyes, fully alert.
As the scarlet hair slowly returned to white, Lucy let out with wide eyes, "Erza?"
