- Chapter Two - I'll Save You From Yourself -
-Normal P.O.V-
"Who am I?" The Onyx-eyed teen asked, but no reply came from the little African child, just a blank stare from shock.
"Y-You really don't remember?" She asked. The three year old began shaking, she hung her head and tears began to dribble from her big brown eyes. "Does that mean you really don't remember Opacho?"
"I'm sorry." Was all Hao could manage before he was interrupted by loud childish wails made by the child. She buried her small head into into the bed sheets. The brunette teen felt a lump in his own throat, he couldn't bare to see this child, who must have been significant to him before whatever happened, happened, cry. He reached over with his left hand and he began to stroke her soft fluffy afro whilst cooing at her quietly. It was a quite uncomfortable position he was in, but with his right hand immobile, it was the only other option.
"I may not remember who you are exactly, but something tells me that you are, in fact very important to me." Opacho lifted her little head and smiled weakly and snuggled up to her master. "O-Opacho, that was your name right?" he asked.
"Yep! Hao-sama named Opacho, Opacho." she chirped.
"Hao? Is that my name?" Opacho nodded feeling happy at the fact that she helped her master. "Could you tell me more about what happened, do you even know?." he asked still stroking the little ones hair.
"Opacho will tell you everything when you're able to leave the hospital, okay!" She gave a wide smile, which made Hao smile as well. But then she thought to herself 'Wait! If Opacho tells Hao-sama everything, he might remember about his otouto and how he failed in becoming Shaman King. He'll seek revenge and he'll end up being mean again and he'll yell at Opacho... Never Again.' She decided.
Hao noticed that Opacho's face was now contorted in anger.
"Opacho? Are you alright?" The bushy haired toddler looked up into her master's face and smiled before she crawled up and kissed his cheek.
"Everything's alright Hao-sama. You need to rest so you can regain all your energy okay." Hao just nodded and laid back in bed. It didn't take him long to fall into a blissful sleep.
A small sigh escaped the three year old's lips as she looked down at her masters sleeping face. The chestnut skinned girl keeled down and began to brush the hair off of his soft, bruised face. She looked at him whilst stroking his cheek gently, making sure not to wake him up.
"Opacho will make sure all the sadness in your heart stays away Hao-sama," She whispered before laying a soft kiss on his cheek "That's a promise." She continued before she snuggled up against her master and went to sleep.
The next morning, the doctors had to check and bandage up Hao. They were all amazed as to how fast he was recovering, even his broken arm was healing faster than they thought it would.
Suddenly the PA system in the hospital went on and Goldva's voice boomed through.
"Due to a unexpected disruption, the Shaman Fight will be going on hiatus till further notice. Everyone is to return back to their homes and leave the Patch village by sundown. Any and all hospital patients who are still recovering shall be given assistance by the doctors and the the Patch Officials. Remember to keep your Oracle bell so you can be informed as to when the Shaman Fight shall recommence."
The doctor looked at Hao and smiled.
"Well it's a good thing that you've healed so well, Sir. This entire village is being cleared out today, looks like you're one of the lucky ones that can go out Scott free." She laughed. Hao smiled back at her but said nothing, even though all that she had said had left him confused. The doctor walked over to a cabinet and issued Hao some pills.
"Alright, Sir, take one of these with your food three times a day, and you'll be right as rain. And here are some bandages for the road, you'll want to change those ones your wearing at least once a day or if the stitches reopen, which I highly doubt they will." She hands Hao a box of simple first aid equipment. She wrote down something on a piece of paper and turned back to Hao.
"Now just give me your name, age and date of birth and I can give you this prescription for your medicine."
"Uhhh..." Hao looked around for a second, Opacho was passed out asleep on the bed so he couldn't ask her.
"My name is Hao?" He said with noticeable uncertainty in his voice.
"Hao what?" She said whilst righting the name down on the piece of paper. Hao tried to think back but he couldn't entirely, there was only one name that formed in his mind. Asanoha Douji...Okaasan? Without any hesitation Hao replied. "Douji, my name is Hao Douji."
"Okay age and date of birth." Hao looked frantically around the room when the doctor wasn't looking and he saw his reflection and, boy was he messed up. His face was busied beyond belief, black eye, a plaster on his cheek, his forehead busied also, his torso bandaged up like a mummy. Whatever happened was brutal, yet he didn't feel too bad.
"Uh, May 12th 1997." Was the only date that came into his mind. Hao wondered whether these dates or that name were actually his or whether perhaps they were the dates and name of someone he held dear. Asanoha Douji. He felt deep down that she was his mother, he didn't know why but he just knew.
When the doctor finished writing down that information she gave Hao the slip and a decent pair of clothes. His own where completely drenched in dried blood and the areas that were spared of the blood were either covered in dirt or were ripped. Hao thanked the doctor, who smiled and left the room so that he could change, her final words to him were;
"Once you're finished you can go to the front desk and they'll discharge you."
Hao looked at the attire, and put them on carefully trying not to catch them on his bandages or his cast. It was just a pair of baggy black track-suit trousers, and a white tee-shirt. On his feet were a set of black slippers that fitted on nicely. He walked towards the full body mirror near the back of the room and eyed his reflection properly. From his long brown hair that ran past his hips to the soft yet angular shape of his face, his oriental eyes. He looked a lot younger than he felt.
Opacho began to stir on the bed sheets, her big eyes fluttered open and she looked over to see Hao infront of a mirror, he was wearing different clothes. He looked more... Human.
"Hao-sama? You should be resting!" She whined whilst pouting at her master. Hao turned to Opacho and smiled.
"Actually Opacho, I am being discharged today! Apparently something happened and the village is being cleared out or something? I don't know exactly what's going on, but everyone's leaving here."
"Then we should go to!" Exclaimed Opacho before jumping down from the bed. Hao laughed at the little girls actions and took her hand.
"Alright, alright Opacho, calm down." His voice was filled with so much heart and warmth, it made Opacho smile.
The two had to stop by the front desk to confirm that Hao had been discharged before leaving. Opacho help his left hand and and swung it back and forth in a childish motion, whilst in her other hand she carried the little first aid box in her free hand. She suddenly stopped when she saw a pay phone and asked Hao to stay where he was. She pulled out a quarter from her afro and began dial a number.
"Hello?" A voice said, Opacho smiled as she recognised the voice and answered back.
"Luchist! It's Opacho~" She chimed.
"OPACHO! My little lady, how are you, where are you, how is Hao-sama?" He rambled, but Opacho just sighed.
"Look. Opacho needs Luchist to come to the Patch village hospital as soon as possible." She demanded in a serious voice.
"Alright my little lady, I'll be there in no time at all." And with that, Luchist hung up the phone, and Opacho went back to Hao's side with a cute smile on her face.
"Who were you taking to?" Hao asked ruffling Opacho's hair.
"Just a friend of ours. He's coming to take us out of the Patch village." She said holding Hao's finger again. Opacho knew she could trust Luchist, he too was the only other dedicated member of Hao's followers, and he was strong enough to protect them all.
The two sat in a comfortable silence until Luchist Lasso arrived riding his spirit 'The Fallen Angle Lucifer'. Opacho began to wave her hands wildly signalling the former X-Law to land.
"Opacho!" The tall man cried before running up and picking up the little girl nuzzling her little neck making her giggle.
"P-Please, stop Luchist. Opacho's ticklish there!" She laughed whilst trying to wriggle out of his grasp. Hao smiled at this display of affection, surely this man meant no harm to him or Opacho. Luchist soon stopped his actions as he caught a glimpse of the long haired teen standing in the background. His eyes widened when he saw that the teen was in fact his adored master; Asakura Hao.
"Hao-sama!" He cried running up to his master. He crashed down onto his knees and bowed in respect. "Forgive me my master, I couldn't stop those band of hooligans." Luchist shut his eyes waiting to receive some sort of punishment, but it never came.
When he looked up he saw confusion in his master's eyes.
"W-What are you talking about, what hooligans, and what exactly should I be forgiving you for?" Hao questioned making the elder raise an eyebrow.
"Oh yeah, Opacho forgot to tell Luchist that Hao-sama lost his memory." The little girl said "And that's why we need Luchist to help us."
"Oh!" He said looking Hao and then at Opacho. "Well what ever you need me to do, I'll do it." he smiled.
"Opacho needs Luchist to fly us out of the Patch village, we can't exactly use the S.O.F now can we?" Luchist nodded his head before he held out his hands and he swept the two youngers on to his 'Fallen Angle Lucifer'.
As the three flew Hao enjoyed the view of the earth below with a bewildered expression. Surprisingly he didn't question how they were flying, he was too mesmerised by how the lights below looked like the stars above. Both Opacho and Luchist smiled at how simple his mind had become.
"Luchist. Opacho wants you to know something." She said looking up at the cone haired male.
"What is it?" He asked seeing a seriousness on her ebony face.
"Opacho doesn't want you to tell master Hao-sama about his defeat to his brother or the Shaman tournament or his hatred towards the humans, okay." Luchist pulled a confused face at the little girl.
'Why doesn't she want Hao-sama to remember those things?' He thought to himself.
"Because Opacho wants him to be happy and if he remembers all those things he'll end up being like that Lyserg boy and he'll be fueled with revenge until he goes on a crazy murderous rampage and then he'll get killed." She said looking back at Hao as he marveled at natures beauty mixed with town lights.
At that moment Luchist remembered that Hao taught Opacho how to read minds but he shook that off before saying "True. I promise never to talk about it, okay." Opacho smiled in a childish manner making Luchist smile as well.
"Opacho look." Hao said pointing at the ground, Opacho peered over the edge of Lucifer and smiled as she saw the lights of a city twinkle like stars.
"It's pretty isn't it?" Smiled Hao.
Opacho looked at her master with a small smile on her face. 'Hao-sama's changed ... and Opacho likes the new Hao-sama.' she crawled over to Hao and snuggled up against him and he put his arm around her.
"You'll learn everything soon enough." She smiled
"You know Opacho, the past is the past and if it doesn't comeback then that's not so bad. Life's about living in the present and not dwelling on the past, and I think I want to make new memories with you and Luchist-kun." Opacho and Luchist smiled at this.
"Opacho thinks that this is a good idea but there are things you do need to know to protect yourself against people who might not like you." Hao didn't really understand what Opacho meant about this but he just nodded in reply.
The three landed somewhere just outside a town. "Sorry guys I'm almost out of furyoku so we're going to have to set camp here." The two others nodded and followed Luchist into the town.
"Alright we have a long day a head of us, so lets get some rest." Opacho chirped. And with that the three left to find an Inn or motel that was available.
