- Chapter Three - The New Guy In Town -
-Yoh's P.O.V-
It's been a well over a month since the Shaman Fight and, well things have gotten back to normal. Since the tournament was put on hiatus, a new Shaman King hadn't been decide, Anna and I haven't gotten married and I don't think we're going to neither. It's nothing against Anna or anything, she's a good person underneath all that terrifying, and I do love her but more as a crazy sister way, kind of Pirika. There's another reason also but, uhh... Never mind, it's not my place to mention what I saw that day.
Anyway, I was currently at school lying lazily on my desk listening to some Bob Marley though my Orange headphones. My moment of peace was interrupted when I felt a small hand try to shake me awake. I groaned before opening one of my eyes only to see Oyamada Manta with a smile on his little face. As he was just about to say something I fell asleep making him yell in frustration.
"YOH!" he exclaimed, I chuckled slightly before lifting my head, hanging my headphones around my neck.
"What is it Manta." I hummed whilst getting up from my original slouched position. Manta stared into my eyes with a childish pout but that was soon replaced with an even more cute frown. It was so weird but Manta was like a little doll, I'd never tell him I thought this, he hates being called cute... Even though he was.
He let out a huge sigh before saying "Yoh-kun, what I have to say is actually pretty interesting you know."
"Well if it's so interesting why don't you just come out with it." I said with my trademark mellow smile.
"Well, we have a new transfer student coming to our class today." Smiled Manta, obviously excited.
"Why does that matter to us?" I asked. The look on Manta's face was priceless. He had an 'I don't know' smile on his embarrassed face, which made me laugh.
"I just thought it was an interesting topic." He pouted once again, the little cutie. I ruffled his hair in a patronising manner, making him blush.
"Yoh, you lazy slacker! What are you doing!" My eyes widened as I realized that Anna was the one talking. Where did she come from? Wasn't she back home in Izumo?
"A-Anna, what are you doing here? I thought you were in Izumo with Tamao." I said shakily, but she just sent me a scowl, which sent shivers down my spine.
"You think I would miss a day of school and ruin my perfect attendance record? How silly of you, Yoh." She gave me that cold lifeless smile that never ceased to petrify.
"Anyway, Manta you said that there was a new student at this school, well it just so happens that I sense a new shamanic power on school premises." Both mine and Manta's ears perked at this. "It's faint, but I sens it none-the-less."
'Who could this power belong to?' I thought whilst staring into blank space. 'Could it be someone from the Shaman Fight? Maybe a friend, or maybe a foe.'
"Okay class! Take your seats." The teacher said before clasping his hands together. At once, all the students rushed to their seats still continuing their little conversations.
"I have an announcement to make," The teacher said, but no one was really listening. Even I was still wondering who this new shamanic power belonged to, and I could only guess that Anna and Manta were thinking the same thing. "Okay how about this," the teacher continued, "We have a new student today!" He announced. Immediately the class hushed, and the only thing that could be heard was the Bob Marley track blasting out from my orange headphones. Blushing I quickly turned off my phone with a nervous smile on my face.
"Okay... You can come in now." The teacher said, and on cue a teenaged boy with long flowing brown hair entered the class room. Anna and Manta's eyes widened in shock, as did my own. I could tell that Manta was about to yell, but instead he fell off of his chair shaking a little. I couldn't blame him, if he hadn't have freaked out, I would have.
"Would you like some time to compose yourself Mr. Oyamada?" The teacher said in a snide tone. Manta did as he was told and climbed back onto his chair. Some of the other students snickered at Manta, who's face went bright red from embarrassment.
"Alright Mr. Douji, introduce yourself." the dark haired nodded before looking back at the class.
"Hello everyone! My name is Douji Hao. I'm sixteen years old, and I hope we all become great friends." He gave a smile aver his little introduction. Not that menacingly bitter smile he used to give, but it was a more genuine, sweet and innocent smile, Kind of like my own. It was strange to see Hao like this. I mean I barely knew him to begin with, but the side of him I got to see was nothing like this at all.
He wore the regular school Uniform; cream shirt, blue tie, black blazer and green school trousers. He also wore black trainers and gloves but not his usual bright red gauntlets with his name on the knuckles, no, these were just simple black woolen gloves. His face still had a couple small scares from the battle between him and I, but other than that he looked perfectly okay.
As the teacher assigned him to his seat, I couldn't keep my eyes off of him. If this was Hao, then what was I supposed to do? Just ask him how he survived my attack. Though at the same time, I felt an incredible sense of relief to know that he was okay, and I couldn't stop smiling like an idiot in his direction. It was at this moment I realized that I had been staring at him for too long, and he was now looking back at me. Thinking fast I pulled a smile and waved. To my surprise, he began to blush slightly before waving back.
'He's changed somehow, I just know it.' I thought before diverting my eyes back to the front.
After class, Anna, Manta and I went to the back of the school together to talk about Hao.
"So what should we do about him?" Asked Manta whilst playing with hands.
"I think we should inform Yohmei and Kino, I'm sure they'll know what to do." Suggested Anna. I don't know what came over me, but I felt angry at the thought of handing Hao over to my grandparents.
"No!" I said causing both Anna and Manta to look my way. "We can't tell anyone that Hao is okay." I could feel their eyes yearning for an explanation.
"Why? You know better than anyone that he's a menace, and that he should gone! He tried and nearly succeeded in becoming Shaman King and wiping out the human race, and you want someone like that out and about on the streets?!" Anna expressed. It took all my courage, but I looked Anna right in the eye with the most serious face I had to offer.
"He's my brother Anna, not yours. If it'll make you feel better we can talk to him after school to see what he's up to, but for now, I don't want to bring anyone else into this until we know for sure that Hao's up to no good." Anna was taken aback by my remark, and she furrowed her brow and started to clench and unclench her fist. I held my ground, whilst also mentally preparing myself for a smack harder than any she had ever given me prior. But it never came. With an ice-cold look Anna turned on her heel and walked away. As soon as she was out of sight my legs turned to jelly and I toppled over Manta making him yelp.
After school, we waited for Hao in the main corridor. When he finally came out of his class, he paid us no mind and walked right passed us, which for lack of a better word, pissed Manta right off.
"Hey! We were waiting for you!" The small blonde hollered. Slowly, Hao turned around and gave us that smile, the same one he gave me in class. I don't know why, but I felt my heart almost skip a beat.
"Is there something I can do for you?" He asked in a pleasant tone.
"How about telling why you're here, and what your intentions are!" Barked Anna making Hao recoil in both fear and surprise, which confused me because Hao wasn't one to be frightened easily even by Anna.
"W-well..." He stuttered. Hao stuttered! Something was clearly very wrong here. "I'm defiantly not here to get screamed at by some random blonde chick on my first day." And there it was. The Hao sass I knew all to well. Perhaps he hadn't had changed all that much.
"Haha, very funny Hao. I know what game you're playing but you can't deny it, I know you're just trying to get revenge against Yoh?" Accused Manta, but Hao just stood there with a baffled look across his face.
"Revenge, for what?"
"For The Shaman Fight." I said but then he just looked at me still confused before saying.
"What Shaman Fight?"
