- Chapter Six - Strange Attraction -
-Normal P.O.V-
When Yoh and Manta reached their class, they both saw Hao sitting at his desk on his own, reading a book. He blended in so well, it was as though he was a regular teenaged wallflower. Yoh couldn't help but smile at how natural Hao looked. His face was calm as he read, his lips often twitching up into a smirk at whatever he was reading. Hesitantly Manta and Yoh walked up to Hao, sort of feeling bad to interrupt him from his novel.
"Hi Nii... Hao-kun." Yoh said. He had almost called Hao Nii-chan, but then he remembered, at this time, Hao was not his brother anymore. Hao looked up from his book and gave Yoh and Manta a warm smile. Yoh felt his cheeks tingle a bit.
"Good morning Yoh-kun, Manta-kun. How are you two today?"
"We're fine, had a sorta weird morning, right Mr. Closet Gay?" Manta smirked whilst nudging Yoh's leg. Yoh looked away and gave a bitter smile.
"I question the quality of our friendship sometimes." Was all Yoh said. Manta merely laughed uttering that he didn't mean it. Hao however looked more than confused. Noticing this Yoh scratched the back of his head and laughed shyly.
"I... Uh..." Before he could finish he was silenced by Hao shushing him.
"You can be into whatever you want Yoh, I don't judge." Hao gave a sweet smile and Yoh blushed bright red. Now his brother thought he was a homosexual, this was just peachy. Manta couldn't help but lose it over Yoh's bright red face, it was hilarious to see, the usually calm teen so flustered.
It was at that moment when Yoh felt a merciless grip on his ear. He was yanked back slightly only to see a very pissed Anna from the corner of his eye.
"Where do you get off ditching me?" Oh crap, Yoh realised he and Manta had left Anna behind to escape Horohoro's taunting.
"Uh, I'm sorry Anna, things were just getting awkward cause of last night." Yoh managed, a tear of pain forming in one of his eyes. Anna knew what he was talking about and felt a tinge of sympathy. She let go of his ear, still holding her scowl.
"Uh, speaking of last night, can we like talk in private for a second?" Yoh asked. Anna already knew what Yoh was going to say but she let him lead her out of the class.
"This is about us not getting married isn't it?" She started.
"Yeah, that kinda surprised me when you just said that all of a sudden. I mean I thought you and I had to get married cause y'know, it was prearranged and stuff." Yoh said awkwardly, he didn't really feel that way about Anna, but it was kinda strange to hear it all if a sudden.
"Yoh," She started "Our families want an heir, so that the Asakura bloodline remains strong. All you really need form me is my uterus, and we don't necessarily have to be married to bare a child." Yoh just nodded.
"I see your point... You think everyone's going to throw a hissy fit when they find out?"
"Almost certainly, but your family are understanding enough to know that you and I aren't in love, and we're not going to pretend like we are when there's an easier option for us." Yoh let out a breathy chuckle before Anna continued. "However, this doesn't change the fact that when you become Shaman King I expect to be treated like the queen. That title is something you promised me, and I will not let you go back on your word!"
"I promise Anna. You'll still get to be the queen..." Yoh gave a cheeky grin and said "And maybe Tamao-chan will be your queen to." Anna blushed bright red and gave Yoh a sharp bonk to his head causing other students roaming the halls to turn their way.
"Me and Tamao aren't even like that anymore! Also I wouldn't be one mock Mr. Closet Gay." She growled back at Yoh. The morning bell began to ring and everyone else rushed to their classes. Anna turned her back to Yoh and walked towards the classroom only to stop and looking over her shoulder to Yoh and saying, "I may end up having a queen by my side, you're the one that's going to end up with a drag queen." And with that she waltzed into the classroom.
Yoh hung his head in defeat, in a game of wits with Anna, he was severely out matched. He walked into the classroom and sat down at his seat. Hao looked at Yoh thinking to himself.
'So, Yoh's batting for the other side, how interesting?' Hao gave a small smirk at Yoh. He rested his chin on his palm and redirected his sight to the front.
Since Yoh smiled at Hao the previous day, the young Asakura had been stuck in his mind. Hao didn't know why, but he felt a strong connection towards Yoh. He just wanted to get closer to Yoh, he wanted to feel Yoh's touch, he wanted to hear Yoh's laugh more and more. Hao just yearned for Yoh and he had no idea why. He felt as though he knew Yoh, and that Yoh knew him too but... It was all still a blur, his mind was everywhere and nowhere all at once, it was sort of hard to find himself.
Luchist had told Hao that he was an orphan, along with Opacho. Apparently Hao's parents died when he was young. Luchist took him in when he found Hao roaming through a park. A few years or so later Hao found Opacho when she was just a baby, she had been abandoned in an ally somewhere in the city, and Hao took her as his own. Though this story did seem quite plausible, Hao still didn't quite believe it himself, but then again Luchist and Opacho seemed to be the only ones who knew him, and it wasn't as though he had anything to lose by believing in them.
Hao had to admit, when Yoh, Anna and Manta approached him the other day he did feel a twinge of surprise and happiness. The thought of someone else knowing him, and who he was just made him hopeful in a way. Though he wanted to make new memories his mind couldn't help but cast back to the past he had forgotten, but alas it was not to be and he had only been mistaken. Or so they would have him believe. Though Hao didn't know of a reason to not believe Yoh, he still couldn't shake the thought that he was being lied to. So many times has he heard of this Shaman Fight, yet he still had no clue as to what it was.
Hao scanned the classroom as the teacher preached. He didn't know how to describe it but, he felt different from everyone else. Everyone except Yoh, Anna and Manta. He sort of felt like he belonged with them, Yoh especially. Hao had yet to make friends, he sort of felt on edge around everyone, uncomfortable even. He didn't know why but he just felt bitter towards them.
'Why do I feel this way? Was I an angry person before? I want them to except me, yet I don't except them. What is wrong with me?' Hao thought to himself, he could feel his heart thump hard from his emotions. His eyes cast to Yoh who was just looking at the front, reclined in his chair. Hao started to feel better, as though Yoh was taking away the anger within him.
"Asakura Yoh." He mumbled under his breath. Hao couldn't describe it but the connection between him and Yoh was strong, well at least it was for Hao. Hao smiled Yoh who didn't seem to notice.
Little did Hao know Kyouyama Anna was reading his every thought. She wouldn't admit it but Hao's growing attachment to Yoh was actually sort of swert. Sort of like her attachment to Tamao. Realising what she had just thought Anna dismissed it only thinking to herself.
'Get it together! You don't need her to be happy.'
The class lasted a for only 45 minutes, but Anna and Hao, it felt exceedingly longer.
