Chapter 17: Similar Destiny

"The Lion" Spirit Leo and the "The Goat" Capricorn now known as Caprico were engaged in battle.

"How long had it been since you disappeared from the Celestial Spirit World?" Leo questioned as Caprico landed a kick right on his stomach.

"17 years!"

It was surprising that Caprico could last in the human world for so long.

"Who is your Master?" Leo asked gathering his thoughts after crashing to the ground.

"I have no master. I'm the Master who uses "human"!" With that Caprico summoned a person out of nowhere.

"Open, the hero of Rubengard, San Jao Shin!" That person who was summoned was in traditional Chinese warrior outfit slashed at Leo with a spear-liked weapon. According to history he went missing in action. He used to be an anti-government general that led his forces to victory in the Rubengard Civil War a few years ago. Leo was caught off guard. Leo clutched his wound on his stomach while listening to Caprico as he explained.

"So you captured the human and turned them into your subordinate?" Leo asked in disbelief wiping of some blood flowing from the corner of his mouth. While he was fighting him, a certain person with orange hair kept appearing in his mind.

"It can't be right, Loki?"

Caprico paid no heed to answer him since he already knew the answer but rather he was curious about his Master. By right, Leo should not be able to show up on the human's world after that day. Leo's eyes widened at his words. He had suspected and now his suspicion was confirmed.

"It was you! I had been looking for you for so long. You were the one who assaulted us that day! You were the one who killed by temporary master!" Leo could feel anger welled up within him. It was a painful memory.

*Flashback*

"The Lion" Leo's POV

Leo was a Celestial Spirit contracted to the Head of the Dragneel Clan, Elie Dragneel. He had cancelled his contract with her and his key was handed to the family of Lockser. The successor, Leo Lockser whom Celestial Spirit, Leo addressed as Loki would contract with him and become his new Master when he grows up.

The lion spirit was in a dilemma. He was loyal to his former Master, Elie whom he respected a lot. He had wanted to serve the Dragneel Clan but things did not turn out as he planned. Back then, he decided he would serve Loki dutifully as his spirit. That was until he encountered Natsu Dragion when Loki joined Fairy Tail.

Leo was intuitive he had his suspicion about the salmon-haired boy true identity. His intuition had hardly gone wrong. There was once Natsu had his hand on a certain body switching magic and as a result, he had his body switched with Loki's. That spell which would only last 24 hours was good enough for him to determine that Natsu was the person he was looking for. No doubt about that. He was Elie-sama's descendent.

Natsu was an innocent boy. Too naïve to be honest. Leo had been watching over him over the 24 hours. Natsu attempted to confess to a girl he happened to save from some thugs in Loki's body. That girl was Lucy.

Lucy dragged him into the restaurant for dinner despite Natsu's protest. Over here, he had a drop too much and started to blabber in his own words. Lucy thought of going to the washroom for a while when he caught her hand and pulled her into a hug.

"I like you. I had always been admiring you." He sounded desperate. If he did not confess to her now, when would that be? Natsu had always liked Lucy. It is obvious that he was drunk; hence he finally had the courage to confess.

Instead, he earned a slap from her. Lucy apologized to him quickly as this was her natural reflex due to what had just happened to her moments ago with the crooks.

"Please give me some time to think it over!" She blurted out and she ran off immediately.

As expected, she likes Leo, not me. Natsu sat under a tree somewhere deep in thought. He had made his decision.

Leo watched Natsu who was depressed. He had decided to give his blessing to Lucy and Loki. He did a facepalm. That boy was too drunk to realise that the person Lucy had rejected was not him. Leo decided that he would give him a lesson to win a girl's heart once he was able to become his Master.

The lion spirit smiled as he was interrupted by his current Master with short spiky orange hair by his comment.

"As agreed, until you find him, you're my partner. Do you rarely smile, Leo? I think that you will be really popular with girls if you smile more."

This was the agreement with Celestial Spirit Mage, Leo Lockser and the Lion Celestial Spirit, Leo. As both of them had the same name and they looked similar, the lion spirit decided to call his Master by the nickname Loki when there were only both of them. Apparently, his Master like the name.

"Loki is the name of the famous God of Mischief. I like. Let's work together!" Loki offered his hand to his partner for a handshake to seal their partnership.

The Lion Spirit was feeling awkward. He took his hand uneasily.

"As you wish, I'm Leo the spirit contracted with Celestial Spirit Mage, Leo, Loki."

It was a mission that went wrong. Leo and a fellow Celestial Spirit, Aries, "The Ram" was assaulted and was forced back to the Celestial Spirit World.

Leo headed back to the world of human with his own ability as soon as he recovered. The sight befell him was unbelievable. Their masters were on the verge of vanishing from this world. The Master of Aries vanished into the thin air before he could react and Loki was on the verge of joining her. Leo could not believe it.

"I'm sorry, I won't be able to fulfill our promise to hand your key to the destined one you wanted to contract with." Loki said to him with a forced smile. Leo was desperate. There was only one way to stop him from vanishing. That was…

"No, Leo, that's a taboo!" It was as though Loki read Leo's mind. He knew what he was up to.

"I don't care if this is a taboo. I was a proud spirit of Elie Dragneel. I've no right to face her descendent if I can't even protect you, my current Master well!"

*End Flashback*

"I remember. That was a failed experiment when I attempted to make them my subordinates." Caprico confessed.

"In order to find the culprit, I stayed in this world." Leo said trying to control his rage. "I wanted to defeat you to regain my pride."

"It does sound like we are similar."

Leo straightened his back as he continued his serious conversation. There was something else he needed to know.

"What happened to you? According to Crux, you were supposed to be contracted to someone named Layla. I don't know what kind of pact you made in the human world but your current master should be Layla's daughter, Lucy although Lucy herself doesn't know. "

If Leo was right, there ought to be a reason why Caprico did not go to Lucy after he was done with his interim contract.

But Leo realized that his plan backfired and caused danger to Lucy when Caprico became worked up.

"That blonde girl you sent off. It can't be… She is Lucy? NO! I can't let the girl leave in one piece! I can achieve true freedom if she dies! Maybe I should make her my subordinate. If it's her, I won't fail!" Caprico began to lose it.

"Damn it!" Leo muttered to himself.

"Open! Hunter of Belparaso, Samagui! Get rid of Layla's daughter!" Caprico summoned another human and gave the order desperately.

"Not on my watch!" Leo knocked the range of arrows Samagui fired at Lucy's direction. Leo knocked him to the wall causing the man to vanish.

"Despicable. I had never seen a spirit who is so disrespectful to his master like you!" Leo said pushing up his glasses at ease."As your leader, I feel so ashamed."

"Come to think of it, I got tired of the goat's body." Caprico said suddenly. Leo raised his guard upon hearing his words. They were caught in a shadow before he realized.

"No, I can't let you continue this mistake any further!"

"Elie-sama, Loki, tell me what should I do?" Leo landed a punch on Caprico with his Regulus punch in insitinct.

A figure appeared before Leo. That was when he realized Capricorn was possessed by a human spirit and he tried to take over his body. He was Zoldeo, a member of Seven Kin of Purgatory.

"This is such a perfect timing. I can't use this magic other than human!"

"Don't tell me!" Leo realized Zoldeo was a human who fused with Capricorn just like…

Leo's expression changed. Zoldeo had taken over his body.

"I decided to fuse with you so I can have a human body. Thank you for everything, Goat. " Zoldeo smirked. With this body, he could get close to Lucy and finish her off. Once he got rid of her, he would truly be free.

All the sudden, Zoldeo felt a flash of pain in his body. A beam of light was seen passing through Leo's body to his horror. It was Capricorn. Leo had transferred his magic to Capricorn before Zoldeo could take over his body and with that Capricorn managed to force Zoldeo out of his body thus freeing Leo.

Zoldeo was a man with pale and ghastly look. His puffy hair kept back by a headband adorning cross designs by the sides and has a blue trim. At that moment, he thought he had finally regained his human body but in reality he was nothing more than a spirit and his body was vanishing.

That was the side effect from the use of the taboo Lost Magic. Leo and Capricorn watched coldly as the man vanished from their sight. Soon after, another man in spirit form appeared before Leo. His appearance was awfully similar to Leo except that he had shorter hair.

"Loki..." Leo called out. He knew it was time. It was a price he had to pay for meddling with taboo magic.

Loki, Leo Lockser gave him a smile.

"I had made a mistake. In order to stay in the human world and to save you, I fuse with you like that man did with Capricorn." Tears were seen falling down Leo's cheek as the Celestial Mage, Leo shook his head trying to wipe his tears with his spiritual hand but in vain. His hand passed through his face.

"This is farewell, Leo. I don't think you did wrong. I think I know who the one you wanted to contract with is. I wish you best of luck. Send my regards to Lucy and Natsu. And… you should really smile more. I think you look really attractive when you smile." Leo watched tearfully as his former master faded away with a smile.

"You know what. I think I look attractive all the time. Farewell, my Master."

With that Capricorn was able to return to Lucy as her Celestial Spirit along with Leo. As Leo had not contracted with anyone, he had no choice but to forge a temporary contract with Lucy until the day he could serve the descendent of Elie Dragneel.

It was through the Wizard Saint, Leo gained the knowledge of the taboo magic, "Human Subordination" as the Head of Dragneel Clan was in charge of guarding Lost Magic and not enabling them to fall on the wrong hands.

"Maybe one day, I will be able to smile heartily, Loki…"
